Has anyone red this article http://news.yahoo.com/major-vulnerability-discovered-galaxy-iii-galaxy-note-ii-174540471.html
I was going to post the same article found here http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-will-internally-review-Exynos-exploit_id37771
But I was looking at it from the glass is half full perspective meaning for anyone who bricks their phone flashing ROM's or rooting can potentially blame it on this above said issue and turn it in for a swap out :fingers-crossed: .. I know I will *knocks on wood .. If i ever happens to come upon my precious device to where it is no longer operable.
It stated in the article that the "malicious app" can wipe your phone completely and BRICK it.

I would love to see a new OTA from Samsung, for this, and a few other reasons. I actually said "yeah!" and grinned when I read this, knowing that an OTA will be coming soon.
(i know, i know, it won't likely fix my issue, but I can hope.)
Chainfire already has this fixed, mostly..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297

I dunno..... Im not chainfire, but Im sure that he is busy doing a ton of stuff. Updating OP's is probably last thing on his mind.
Also, the camera works on our device using this.
Works on the Sprint Galaxy Note 2
I confirmed in the original thread that it does work on my Sprint Galaxy Note 2, camera included.
Also, Chainfire has been understandably busy responding to problems, updating the app and posting some very useful articles to properly describe the exploit and patch. No doubt he does not have the bandwidth either to wade through 50+ pages to find every version of working (or not) device.

all phones with the exynos processor is affected chainfire already had a patch to block this exploit almost the same day it was discovered.
it's called exynos abuse.
Just install the app. Already rooted but it is pretty scary that you can access root with just an apk. On the bright side, those who are not rooted can now root the phone with the apk that chainfire posted and patch the exploit at the same time. There can't be a much easier way to root than this.
It's not that big of a deal. Unless your installing a bunch of different apps without seeing their permissions or not coming from a trusted developer you shouldn't have to worry about it. If your paranoid then just do not install any apps unless their from Google till Samsung patches it.

I'm cautiously optimistic. When the international versions of the S3 got the update that provided the screen brightness fader on the notification bar, the Sprint version of that update appeared only 2 weeks later. Hope Sprint keeps the release schedule that tight.

My guess on when we get it? 8/15. That's when Samsung has their big event scheduled for... the one where, the rumors suggest, is the Note 10.1's coming-out party.
If I was Samsung, I think I could do worse than announcing Jellybean is now available for their flagship device (nominally of course- still would be a few days for the carrier rollout to occur).
In fact, if I was Samsung, I'd have my speaker up on stage, and right at the end I'd pull an "Oh, and one last thing...", you know, just to mess with Apple

FYI, my last three phones have been Samsungs, so I recognize that when it comes to updates and Samsung, optimism == insanity Still, I'm holding out hope that it'll be a LITTLE different this time around, at least as far as Jellybean goes.
I can confirm thst Sprint/Samsung have not made a Sprint jellybean build yet
It'll be very exciting when the update happens! Hopefully it'll occur some time before or right after the new iPhone gets released, so that I can still brag to my Apple friends how cool my phone is.
I worry that Samsung will strip out Google Now, replacing it entirely with S Voice. But I hope Samsung will come to their senses, or at least allow both side by side.

Yeah Samsung should have both S-Voice and Google Now. That would be really cool.
I think that Sprint will delay this update. Look at the Samsung Nexus S 4G. Google released Jellybean for the global Nexus S and every other version of the Nexus S. Sprint has delayed the Jellybean update for the Nexus S 4G.
I came from the Evo3d with all the ics hype and they are just now getting that ****. After that mess I don't believe the talk anymore, but hopefully we do get this soon.

True dat, but by now we should all be used to pretty much every manufacturer/carrier lying about update dates.
HTC does it the worst - I remember when ICS came out on the Evo 3D - First HTC said it would be Q1, then they said "early 2012", and then "sometime spring", and it finally came out in July...
Don't forget out carriers taking their sweet sweet time bloating it up...memories of the epic and froyo/gingerbread are rushing back to me

The delayed ICS update for the EVO 3D was the worst. Good thing the devs had some great ICS ROMs working way before the official one was finally released.

HTC should no longer be talked about in the same matter as Samsung. The 3D was a flop and more of a headache for sprint and HTC to give it the ICS upgrade, but out of necessity (thanks Virgin Mobile) the upgrade finally made rounds.
Now back to Samsung and its most successful phone, one should expect Jelly bean to make rounds much more quicker then what would history would tell us.

I think Samsung is controlling the carriers' options for bloatware this time around, and you'll likely see less bloatware with these updates. Most reviews of the Galaxy S3 comment on how there isn't as much overbearing carrier influence on the phone to begin with, especially when compared to the original Galaxy S and Galaxy S II phones.
I learned not to be hopeful about updates with my old OG epic, I expect Official jellybean around now of '13.

I was like that, but then I had the GS2 for a while and noticed updates came faster as the hardware becomes more universal. With the SGS3 being so similar across carriers, I feel like the time periods may become closer like how the Nexus is. Their is some lag for CMDA, but with so little variance they aren't accounting for one with a keyboard and other strange variations. I think the main delay with the SGS2 was the recovery being attached to the kernel and the emmc bugs.
The devs here should have some great TW ROMs based on the international update so I'm not too worried about it.
Thanks for the info
Im not trying to get to excited about this since it never happens like we want it to but I am crossing my fingers.
Hopefully sooner than later
In BUCK We Trust. GO O's!
Hopefully steps it up due to the success of the S3 and doesn't drag their feet on Sw updates as they are known to.

It would have been good if Google made a demonstration of how Kitkat is capable with the lower end device, e.g. Gnex or the NexS.

I fear that is the case already. I am not seeing a lot of movement on the 4.4 ROMs out there, the threads are not that active, and it appears that hardware (GPU) is blocking real progress in allowing 4.4 to be stable on the GNex. I rolled back to CM 10.1.3 which has been rock-stable with good battery life and strong signal for now, and am under contract until June before I can upgrade without penalty.

Point taken, but my comment wasn't about patience, it was about volume. The traffic just appears to be less than in the heady days of JB, for instance. Fewer posts IMHO means more people moving to other devices. I hope I'm wrong!

While KitKat is said to be able to run on lower-spec devices, this doesn't mean every phone ever made will begin to receive updates, nexus or otherwise. Will the HTC Hero receive KitKat? What about the Evo 4G? It has 512mb ram, and should run it just fine. This update was created to get rid of Gingerbread from the entry level devices being sold in developing countries.
A while back, we posted an article about how to sign up to beta test Android Marshmallow on the Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, and Galaxy Note 5 on select carriers. If you have an AT&T Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925A), AT&T Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920A), Verizon Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925V), or Verizon Galaxy S6 edge+ (SM-G928V), you can visit here and sign up for the official beta. The good news is that it has started seeding for the Galaxy note 5 and we have a few screenshots from one of our readers.

For at least the AT&T Galaxy Note 5, they selected only 200 participants, it is unknown if other devices got more or less at this time. Our reader was emailed with the instructions to download the Samsung app which would then install the beta to his device. The Note 5 now has build number MMB29K.N920AUCU2BPB1 and the kernel version has a build date of today, February 2nd, meaning it was probably pushed late last night Korean time. The update size for the beta was just over a gigabyte at 1355.94 MB, so it is quite hefty.
is there a way to get the update file and sideload it?
Anyway I can sign up now?

I've been considering it for a while.. Just can't get myself to pull the trigger on it. I love the note 5 but I also love root and vanilla android. Lately battery has kind of sucked for me too.. But that's a story for another thread haha.

I had the 6P and came back to my Note 5 in about a month. All 3 that I had bent from no extra force other than having it in my loose front pocket by itself. And I always took it out before I sat down or bent over/down.
Not only that, the screen isn't as good or bright and I didn't think the camera was as good either. And rooting is overrated in this day and age. I got bored with it quick. Yes the phone is smooth, but it lacked too many features for me.
You may like it, but proceed cautiously is my advice.
I don't miss the amount of time I wasted rooting and flashing just to achieve instability and marginal benefits.

I tend to agree, but I did like having a nandroid backup, being able to backup and restore apps simply, adaway (adguard is ok, but have to disable to join my vpn), and simple things like volume music controls.
Did Samsung enable more options on the alarm clock? Specifically if you can adjust the snooze settings other than just turn it on or off.

Sounds like a job like mine, well not so much anymore. Used to "babbysit" servers.
Samsung confirms it will render the US Note 7 completely useless with next update
Samsung Excerpt:
"To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices."
Why is Samsung pushing so hard?
What else is motivating them?
It can't just be safety? Money perhaps?
Do they need to harvest Note 7's parts?
Are they trying to rush getting all N7's before MWC and the S8 (with rumored full screen) reveal?
Are they trying to prevent return trade ups to new 2017 devices (keeping the same installment)?
This push to gimp is insane! Apple would never do it. So, what is truly motivating Samsung?
This might be it unless a Root solution is found, yes?

This sucks. As if the 60% wasn't enough. I was late to prevent that one from slipping thru.
So what's next? Are we beat? Is there any recourse for us? Specifically AT&T? Trying to get a good AT&T firmware has eluded me thus far.

It sounds like Samsung hell Bent on making sure all note sevens are returned

Looks like this is not going to affect Verizon though:
However, Verizon Communications Inc said it would not take part in the update because of the added risk this could pose to Galaxy Note7 users that do not have another device to switch to. (Reporting by Laharee Chatterjee in Bengaluru; Editing by Shounak Dasgupta)
Even still this is pretty low of them. My thinking is they are using these for parts for the next version. They probably know exactly what caused it and it is such an easy cost effective fix, they simply just need to make a few adjustments.
I'm done
Well that's it for me . Sadly I returned my note today . I'm done spending any more of my time trying to keep this phone working . I'm out so much money in accessories alone it makes my stomach turn. I am liking my Xiaomi mi mix though just wish it had a stylus.
I'm sure Verizon will get an update after the Holidays.
Let them try. I have all of those updates disabled.

Would this be the same package disabler 6.3 that we should be using? Or is there something new to know?
I'm not using anything right now (yea yea) and would like to keep this one from happening.

I'm so sad =/
I got the notice from Bell today that December 15th is the IMEI cutoff time. I'm assuming Package Disabler would have nothing to do with avoiding this longer.

I know no one that has had any issue... Are there any persons out there that have had a indication that there phone was going to overheat? Or something that suggested that it was not working properly at any time? Both I had seemed fine. I think it is a deal that they made with Apple, Inc. The news recently was that they did not infringe... my thoughts were this was because Sammy took a financial hit, which sent a lot of people to Apple. The new Apple phone came out just as the phone BS with the Note 7 got started.

I thought that root was available for all Note 7s? I got root but then again mine is not US version.
Nope.

6.3 is what I use
So when they begin blacklisting your IMEI numbers what will you do then? Come up with an IMEI solution. Seems like a lot of work just to try and stick it to "the man." How did you ever survive before the N7 came out?
