Hi all,
I have a Kaiser 120, using the latest (2.6.32_VOGUIMG-320-FROYO-11-12-10.NBH) by l1q1d, installed Android on Nand.
Recently i noticed that once in a while i cannot receive sms when my friends told me that they had send me a text message and reported as delivered. I confirmed this by sending myself a text message from my brother's phone, it was reported as delivered but i didn't receive anything in my phone. This ONLY happens ONCE IN A WHILE.
I was using Galaxy S FroYo rom and just flashed to the new 11-12-10 kernel by thoughtlesskyle when i first noticed the problem, i thought it was ROM related and switched to thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super FroYo. But i still have this problem. I have used VanijEclair and Super Froyo before and didn't notice the problem (maybe the problem exist back then but i just didn't notice)
I don't know if this is ROM related, or Kernel related, or maybe Radio related (i think im using 1.71.xx.xx) or maybe its just a carrier/network problem.
I am from India, using Vodafone. (can anyone from india pleae tell me which radio you are using??)
Anyone have any idea???
Thanks all...
It could be just that the messaging app is not actively in memory and misses one or two messages. I know in the Cyanogen based builds there is an option to force it to stay in memory.
thanks for the reply... how can i do that???
EDIT: im really frustrated now... i dont know what you mean by actively in memory, but just to test it, i dont close the messaging app and leave it open even after going to sleep, the problem still exist. I ask my friends using the same carrier(vodafone) but using other phones, they didt report any problem... (

There is a command that will force it to reside in memory at all times. In Cyanogen mod in the CM settings there is a box you can tick to enable it. For other roms there is a command you could set but I don't remember the command.
thanks fo the help... appreciate it...

Have you tried using scott's rom or my barebones rom? You could test if that is indeed the issue with those two as they are Cyanogen based so you could test it with those. The setting you would need to enable is enabled by default I believe so you would not have to change any settings.
will give it a shot... thanks..
Dear Guys,
I met a problem with whats app recently, although I am using the latest version.
When my mobile goes to standby mode, whats app doesn't deliver any message unless I power the phone and start surfing or doing any stuff.
I have met this problem with several custom ROM. taking into consideration that when I set the email to push, it works good but whats app is still delays the messages till I wake up the phone and start surfing or browsing.
does custom kernels did something to that for the sake of battery saving??
Can Any one help?? or have an idea about it that??
i am having this problem too.
Although i am not using i9000(I am using LG optimus black), I can't receive whatsapp in the stand by mode.
Only if i turn on the screen, the notification box will jump out.
I didn't meet this problem while using the shock firmware.
Hope can have a solution.
change wifi policy to not sleep and see if it relates
if you are connected through :
1) Wifi: go to wireless settings, press menu, change the "Wifi policy" to "never"
2) Mobile internet: cant help you, you should ask your provider if they have problems with C2DM push notifications.
For me I resolved the issue by using another Provider company that supports C2DM. And changed the settings of the wifi policy.
*C2DM :cloud to device messaging.

I was about to tell you, may be there is issues pertaining to your network , but after you mentioned darky rom, I changed my mind, one of my friends is experiencing this problem and he is on darky rom 9.2 EE, you can refer this issue to darky, maybe he can help you through.

Hello everyone,
A quick question I'd like to pose to everyone about Android 4.2.2 Roms out there. Is anyone else having this issue, does anyone know what may be causing this issue?
I have flashed a couple 4.2.2 roms (jellybam and liquid smooth) and I have tried two visual voicemail programs. An apk of the normal sprint visual voicemail (worked with liquid smooth 4.2.1). And Google voice. Each for whatever reason will only use speakerphone for output. Both programs I have went into the settings to make triple sure that the normal ear speaker is selected as default. And even when toggling while playing a voicemail, the output doesn't change. I don't see anything in the phone settings relating to this issue.
Any ideas comments or questions for me?
Thank you!

can you post where you got the sprint voicmail apk. I'm running LS 4.2.2 stable and would like to install it to test it on my phonel
Look up sprint VVM for cm10 and you'll find it
http://db.tt/2IpM1XId
Happened to have one on drop box. Working fine for me.
Not all ROMs have this issue, but yes, on Google Voice, some ROMs play out through the loudspeaker.
This occurs, for sure, on both $MyName's AOKP and task650's AOKP, as well as a handful of other ones that I've tried. PACMAN does not have the issue, nor does ParanoidAndroid, last I checked.
I've accepted the issue and stuck with AOKP myself.

yeah I've done that I've also done that method where you send a voicemail message to [email protected] and apparently that gets rid of it for some people but nothing worked for me sadly. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I just learned to deal with it honestly it's not the worst thing in the world

SPRINT GS3 FAQ
I'm a long-time note 2 user and usually have no problem with settings. Out of
nowhere, my Note 2 started sounding a notification tone (first tone in the list)
and I haven't found a way to disable that notification. I think it's related to a secondary email
account... yahoo or Outlook perhaps. Tried the obvious options to turn notifications
off/on but nothing has worked. This thing is waking me up at all hours and disturbing
my lifestyle in general. The only way I've found to turn off the continuous sounding of the tone is to touch the top notification bar. Such a hassle. Any real suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
This is bull$4!* I agree
This is bad enough to make me want to switch to an iPhone.
This has got to get fixed.

If only that were possible. With Android 4.3 the notification is for leaving and rejoining the 4Glte coverage area. For those of us that live on the edge of 4G lte coverage it makes for a long annoying night. I have emergency notifications that I DO need at night, but not the damn network change every 5 minutes.

I don't think he was being rude. I think he is saying that if it makes you happy to move to an iPhone then go for it. It's your choice. No need to take it offensively ..good day to you.
UPDATE from SPRINT
I talked to Sprint. They have confirmed that many ppl are complaining about the constant "upbeep" and "downbeep" tones. I understand it is not just 4Glte/CDMS coverage change, but also Wifi and Bluetooth availability. They say Samsung is aware of the unpopularity of the issue and will have a patched version out very soon.
I have resorted to disabling 4Glte all the time and disabling WiFi and Bluetooth at night. this seems to be a reasonable short term work around.
Thanks for reading.
Sean
I've never had any notification tone for network/wifi mode changes. I'm not sure why the stock rooted MK4 ROM wouldn't have the same issue but it doesn't or this forum would be full of angry people. I assume you guys are on the stock unrooted MK4 Jellybean ROM? If so, I'm glad I told my wife not to allow the update on her Note 2. I'm currently on stock rooted MK4 ROM and have never had this type of notification. But I would hate it also.
With this all being said, time for you guys to visit the Note 2 Toolkit thread and get rooted! Just one more reason why people prefer to root their devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155
Once rooted you will need to ask ROM devs for help in removing the network notifications. I'm sure there's an easy way to do this with Root Explorer file manager app but you must be rooted to gain access to the file system. This is my only advice because I'm pretty sure an update will not come soon enough for you guys. Updates come from Samsung then Sprint sits on it for testing etc, then Sprint pushes it OTA. You can root and fix the issue in a few minutes or wait and pray for an update.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. And Sean, thanks for talking to Sprint about this matter...I'm sure that all the suggestions here will help others with the same kind of issue I've been experiencing. For me, it's a wait and see kind of thing in that whatever the change in settings I make, it could take an entire day or even more to verify success in shutting down this maddening interruption.
There have been days when, because of a setting I changed, my phone would not ring at all when a call was coming in even though the ringer volume setting was at 100 percent loudness.
The good news for me is that as of this morning, I had an uninterrupted night's sleep last night which, obviously, could mean that I've finally stumbled into a solution. But I am reserving the 'Mission Accomplished' party for when I am absolutely sure my settings are the way they should be. I hate big let-downs, especially when they follow great expectations and celebrations of euphoria.
BTW, the latest changes I made were done inside Facebook's notifications preferences. It seems the Facebook crew are on a mission to keep its members fully involved in troubleshooting the 'traps' they set for us. Kinda reminds me of Hunger Games.
Fingers crossed now...maybe I'll have another full-night's sleep, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.
Thanks again to all who pitched in their $000.02000. I'll update here any more results that might be helpful.

Have to admit that rooting is very tempting...thing is, I live in a new area and have no 'guru' type friends here and I'd be concerned that I'd get myself in a corner and not be able to get out. I just don't know enough about rooting to trust myself with doing it to my only smartphone. For instance, does rooting wipe all data completely? I'd have to back up everything I want to keep? And how would I do that backup. Will the memory be re-formatted? How do I know which apps work and which ones don't work on a rooted phone?
Yeah, you guessed it...I'm an old guy...66...and fairly savvy with being a PC/smartphone user...but I haven't studied coding since the mid-eighties and don't remember what I learned about it then. Still, I'm intrigued with rooting my Note 2. Maybe someday.

DrDubner, the Rooting Toolkit I linked to above is very simple and straight forward to use and it has very clear and easy to understand instructions within the user interface. Basically if you can read you can root your phone with ease. Also there is no need to backup anything on you phone or sd card (although it's always advisable just in case) because the root process does not change, delete, wipe, or alter anything other than enabling root permissions on your phone and flashing an insecure boot image & custom recovery in which you do not have to ever use and will not be visible upon normal day to day usage.
BUT with this being said, I would highly recommend that you do some more homework FIRST and find out exactly which app or system process/app that is triggering the notifications BEFORE rooting your phone. It may turn out to be something that can be fixed without rooting your phone and either way you go about this, you need to know the exact cause of the notifications before doing anything.
Hopefully you can get more specific info about your notifications and post them here for others to help you better. Like I said, I've never had the network notifications that you described... on any ROM stock or custom. Perhaps it's not network notifications and mabye it's a system app or user installed app that is triggering these notifications? Keep us posted so we can get to the bottom of this issue much faster than Samsung/Sprint patch update that may never come.
Yeah I've never heard of this problem. Stock 4.3 and my phone never beeps for coverage issues. Idk to me it sounds like there's an app set up to continue reminding you of an unread notification. Like the Messages app reminder feature. Plus he did say taping on the notification bar stops it so that means one of those notifications on the dropdown is the culprit and when you tap on the bar it resets your notification (no blinking or sounds). Maybe it's time for a factory reset.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I agree. It does sond like a repeat notification. The notification pull down should give you a clear indication of which app is giving you the notification. Double check notification settings within each suspect app itself. If you can't find it that way then uninstall suspect apps one at a time until you find the culprit. Facebook and other social apps would be a good place to start. Also check Sprint visual voice mail and your messaging notification settings. You might be surprised at the simple cause of this.
I can call people and receive calls on my phone but no one can hear me and I can't hear anyone. I don't even hear a tone when it's dialing sometimes. I'll call someone and they'll answer and it will just be silent and vice versa on both ends of the call, I'll receive a call and it will be totally silent. I have already gone thru all the troubleshooting steps I can think of even going as far as to have my carrier send me another model of the same phone and getting a new sim card they have made many tickets on this issue and have deemed its not network related. Below I have attached 3 log cats of the issue. Sorry they were to big to upload to XDA directly. So here are 3 links to the downloads. The issue is happening on stock non rooted knox isn't tripped

What ROM are you using?
What mods are you using..
Please be more specific..
I was using the Hulk Kernel on the Google Play Edition ROM..
and I was playing with the Faux Sound mod, and it killed all my sound..
Uninstalling the mod corrected my sound issues.. It may not be your issue, but that was my example..
I suggest flashing to STOCK..
BTW those links are ENCRYPTED!
If you can use a video call app like Tango or Skype and you have sound it will most likely be the sound chip not connecting to the modem and using WiFi for voice /video transmission.
Time for a replacement phone.
