I have previously made a thread asking about the power button issue that was running rampant. I have had to "fix" my phone multiple times because of it and it is growing to be a major hassle. Now, my phone is rebooting every time I turn the screen off whether it be with the power button or with apps such as "Screen Off" which is free in the market. I am running a stock rom and kernel currently unrooted because I ran into a problem and had to odin back to stock. My question is, is there a permanent fix for this? If not, does anyone have an idea as to what Sprint would be willing to do about this problem.

I have had my Htc Evo rooted for a long time now. This problem recently just started and I'm not sure if it's because my phone is rooted or maybe it's just an electrical or hardware problem. The top right button to lock the phone or to wake it up from sleep doesn't register all the time. I sometimes have to push it several times for it to work. Do you think I should restore my phone? Maybe it's because it's rooted? Something got corrupted? I'm leaning more towards hardware problems..
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Are you just having trouble waking the phone up with the power button, or is it all functions of the power button are acting weird? Does it put the phone to sleep fine? I've had it happen a few times, where the phone wouldn't wake up by pushing that button. That was attributed to the ROM i was using at the time, and also having the min clock setting at 128.
If your case is different, and the button isn't working properly for all of it's functiopns, and not just waking up the phone, it could be a hardware issue, or the button mechanism could be hanging up or something.

All the functions of the power button is acting weird..sometimes I have to push the button like 10 times for it to wake up so I can unlock my phone. Sometimes I have to push it 5 times or more to turn it off. It's weird though how this randomly started doing this. I was hoping it was the Rom. I'm running Fresh I've never had any problems with it. That's why I leaned more towards the hardware. Is there any way to go around pushing the power button to wake up the phone? Do you think I should restore my phone to see if it maybe fixes the problem?
Thanks!

If it was me, I would make a nand backup of your current setup, and then try flashing a different rom, and seeing if the problem persists. If it continues, I'd then unroot and return to stock setup. If it happens on stock setup, I'd then take it to Sprint to have it looked at.

Alright, I'll do that. Thanks
bump for update from OP
Power BUtton Problems with Waking etc.
Not sure if you ever resolved your issue, but I have the EVO 3D, NOT rooted but with the latest updates, and ever since the last OTA update that moved me to software level 2.08.651.2, I have had issues with the phone not waking on an inbound call until I hit the power button and then wait about 8 seconds for the screen to come on. I have Factory Restored it 3 times, which seems to fix the problem temporarily, but it always comes back.
I just did a warranty replacement claim to see if that will finally resolve the issue. I even found a post where someone said the stock batteries are somewhat loose, so I took a business card and taped it to the bottom of the battery, opposite of the charging posts so that the fit would be better, still no luck.

Hi all,
TL;DR below for those so inclined.
My power button stopped working a couple of days after rooting my Incredible running Gingerbread via unrevoked. I initially had the 'firmware version too new' issue when running unrevoked in OS X, but I followed a guide on this forum to circumvent that issue and I was able to root my phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306400, I only did steps 1 & 2). However, things weren't too cheery from the start.
The primary reason I rooted was for wifi tethering, but after installing the free tether app I was never able to successfully connect to the internet (I definitely configured the settings properly). I brushed this misfortune aside, thinking nothing of it, and went ahead and installed the arsenal of newly rooted apps (titanium backup, rom manager, Droid wall, etc.). In my excitement, I installed GO Launcher and Launcher Pro, which I hadn't been troubled to do before rooting. All worked just fine for the first two days.
I then began noticing that the power button was becoming unresponsive, and a few hours after the initial indications that something was amiss, it stopped responding entirely. I am currently unable to un/lock my screen with the button, nor can I power down normally. I can access my screen when I receive a call or text, or when I un/plug my phone.
The kicker is, though, that when I get into the bootloader, the button suddenly becomes fully responsive, which leads me to believe this to be a software issue. I have since reset my phone to factory defaults and unrooted, but the problem persists.
Sorry about the wall of text but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Does anybody have any ideas about how to go about resolving this issue?
TL;DR: After rooting and installing non-root launcher apps, power button is unresponsive for un/locking screen or powering down, but works fine in bootloader.
Thanks a lot!
I rooted my brother's slide a while back and installed a stock froyo based rom (I'm not sure which one). He had been having some minor issues with his phone (no big deal) and I had been planning to switch him over to cyanogenmod, but this morning his screen would not go to sleep no matter what he did. It just wakes up immediately. He suspects that the device is registering a push on the optical trackpad, because when he tried to restart the phone, it auto selects and sometimes confirms options for him in the popup menu. The trackpad wake seems to be preventing the phone from sleeping, but it could also be something else.
I thought the best course of action would be to install CM6 (he had the older clockwork recovery so I thought i'd put the stable 6.1 on there to walk him through the steps while I wasn't physically present to mess with his phone). The installation went perfectly, but the problem is persisting. If i'm not mistaken, cm6 comes with a custom kernel of its own so that's probably not the issue. Also, for some reason, when his phone wakes up after attempting to be locked, it now briefly shows the lock screen and jumps ahead to the recent apps screen (as if the home button has been long pressed).
This problem is baffling us. If any of you have any ideas what might be wrong I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys.
EDIT: I thought it would be worth mentioning that in recovery, the trackpad function seems to be normal (according to him). He's several hundred miles away from me at the moment so I haven't seen the issue up close myself.
I am wondering if anyone ever encountered these kind of problems,
First of all i've been running cm10.2rc for the past month or so and was having no problem whatsoever. Then out of the blue last night, my screen started flicking on and off, then it'd reboot off for no reason. It goes into apps of widget for no apparent reason either. Even in recovery mode (recovery touch) it clicks options without me touching anything.
I've flashed a dirty/clean, Cm11 (don't like it came back to cm10).
It's as if my power button gets stuck.
I'm wondering if this is a common hardware issue that i could solve by changing a part myself off ebay or any kind of solution for this insane phone?
Thanks
Hi, Since i updated to android 6.0 I have been experiencing alot of issues. My phone recently started to turn off for no reason for every Rom I install. I cant use it for 10 minutes for it to turn off. Sometimes I must try like 5 times for it to boot. Is there anything I can do about it? Im just thinking I should throw it to garbage and get the S7?
Thanks
Does the same thing on a stock ROM? Possible battery problem?

I am trying to install the stock rom right now but during installation it shuts down randomly. I have tried another battery and it still does the same thing so I think the battery is not the problem.
Also wanted to say that I dropped the phone few times without any screen damage. Maybe that caused a hardware problem?
EDIT: I successfully installed the stock rom. I will let you know if it runs smooth now, thanks!
It seems that my power button has a problem, every time I press it, sometimes it opens the menu where you can select if you want to reboot/turn off/vibrate and the phone turns off.
