Recovery is really slow??? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I recently got the t-mobile samsung s2 and rooted it right away with no problems...The root method came with CWM 2.0 something after that i tried switching recoveries to the TWRP 2.3.1.1 I think and it stuck at the teamwin screen and wouldnt load so I tried flashing it again through goo manager and it worked for me 1 time but after that when I rebooted into recovery it stuck at the teamwin screen again so the only thing i could think of was getting ROM Manager and flashing the latest CWM through that and it works everytime I reboot to recovery but when I try wiping cache or flashing things it seems like it takes foreverrrr to do something... If someone knows what I could do to maybe not do this would be awesome cause sometimes it gets stuck when i go to wipe something.....Thanx in advance!!!!

Go into ROM manager again and select flash old recoveries then select 5.0.2.7 it's the most stable one out of all the recoveries including .6.x

[Q] Some issues with ClockWorkMod/Phone

EDIT: I have fixed it by continuely running ROM Manager to reinstall 5.2.0.7, I did fix permissions then installed 5.2.0.7 and it works. However still having problems rebooting and shutting down, but i will fix that later
So recently i updated CWM. Then i ran into some issues, is that when i tried to do a date wipe and a cache wipe to do a clean install it wipes the user data fine but freezes on wipe /cache. i rebooted and tried again and
Sidenote: when I try to reboot or shutdown it gets stuck at the "shutting down" pop up and never fully shuts down/reboots
I am a bit afraid to try anything more right now
EDIT: I tried to get it into download mode, to maybe try to use odin to flash the older version of CWM. Problem is that i can't get it to go into download mode, and can't find a odin flashable CWM
you dont have any backups? are you on any current ROMs?
If so,
download clockwork recovery or ROM manager from the playstore
open it up
Allow super user permissions
Scroll down to the very bottom you will see a option that says "all clockworkmod recoveries"
Make sure you are on a WIFI for a good download
Choose the CWM 5.0.2.7 version, that one is more stable.. i hate the new one its gay as hell lol
Let it download itll need a good minute, try not to do anything else. you may have to try to download a few times if it freezes just be patient
once it downloads you are good to go and you can flash any ROM
let me know if you have more questions just PM me..
Hit thanks if this helped!

I am running AKOP Oct 1st nightly. I have backups with Titanium, and an older one for Nandroid backup. I launched ROM manager and tried to install the 5.0.2.7 version but ROM Manager seems to freeze and not work. I kill the app but it doesn't launch properly and only shows the title. I have to take out the battery and reboot to be able to launch ROM Manager up again. I think i may need to find a way to boot into Download and use odin to flash a new CWM and maybe the stock rooted ROM and go from there. I have to agree about the new CWM it is kinda a step back, wish i had looked it up before update.
I am going to PM you but I always like to have this out there in case anyone else is having the same issue or has had it.
for me...sometimes i cant get into recovery/download mode is because
i have a phone case and both buttons arent fully pressed. and as for the tar recovery
Odin T989 tar its a stable version
i recommend using twrp for now for more stability
i had a had a soft brick like everybody else using cwm 6.0.1.4 lol

I press both buttons and i end up in CWM 6.0.1.4. no case on the phone right now.
I have tried to download and install 5.2.0.7 though ROM Manager but it just freezes. This is what pops up right before it freezes http://i.imgur.com/1ryrP.png if it helps. I think ODIN may be the only way if i can make it boot to download that is.

yeah just flash the tar file thru odin and/or just flash over twrp (goomanager then go to the app>menu button>install openrecoveryscript)

My problem is that I can't get it to boot into download mode, that Odin needs it to be in for it to function. Pressing the volume buttons just makes it go into CWM.
I got it to reinstall 5.2.0.7. It took awhile but it looks like its still working. Just tested it out and it works. Now i know to not update CWM. What are the other recovery options that might be better then CWM?

Issue flashing CWM recovery

Hey guys,
So I just rooted my rogers galaxy s3 and I'm trying to install CWM recovery. My phone isnt on the ROM manager list so I tried flashing it through odin. I've tried about 7 times each with different versions of cwm recovery and odin keeps saying it was a success but whenever I try to go into recovery mode I just go to android system recovery and not CWM recovery. I have no clue why this is happening.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Zach

Btw i dunno why its not working it worked for me.. but i switched cuz CWM SUCKS get twrp bruh its touch and everything and it tells you how much battery you have while flashing...
Download goomanager off playstore... download some random rom (you dont need to flash the rom its only so it gives u the link to the open recovery) you will be asked if you have a recovery installed say no install open recovery they install TWRP on your phone done.. happy flashing

Had the same problems, follow this guide use the latest versions of everything (Odin, etc.). The key is the pulling of the battery after flashing and before you boot. Once I did that I got into CWM no problem.

This is probably the same issue i was having where the stock recovery kept coming back. You will need to rename or delete these two files.

Same issue here on the Telus T989D. Any solutions without using cwm?
You can always try the manual method if your brave and familiar with the terminal. Go to Team Win's for our phone here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/101. Download the .IMG file and follow the instructions under Download - Recovery Image Method (using dd): Not hard but doublecheck your typing before hitting enter or you'll brick your phone.
I'm not responsible for any actions taken because of this post. Good Luck, its worth it in the long run.

One small problem with that.....
Hi guys. I'm having a somewhat similar issue, but it's a little more problematic than that. I was in mid-flash when I unfortunately learned that any attempt to work with the cache resulted in an immediate freeze-up. From what little of the log I've seen, it's trying to tell me that the cache partition is read-only. Any attempt to unmount, wipe, or work with the cache in any way will result in an immediate lock up. This is *after* wiping the system and data partitions. I have been able to get TWRP to start correctly twice in the last 40 times I've tried to boot up the phone.
Question: I noticed that TWRP has a button where you can enter a terminal command. I don't have adb set up yet on this machine, since reloading it. I would imagine the answer would be 'no', but is it possible to put a different recovery image on the sd card, then use TWRP's terminal button to issue the command to flash it, or would that make matters worse? Or am I going to have to set up adb and odin again on another machine and use that? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Side note: I should've stayed with CWM non-touch. :crying:
This worked for me:
reflash CWM, flash superwipe, install TWRP through goomanager.
i had the same problem on my t989 and this odin flashed version posted here worked fine

EDIT: Wow I guess I didnt read the critical part where your stuck on the recovery boot screen so the attachment below wont help.... JUMP DOWN TO POST #21 AND FOLLOW IT TO RECTIFY THE GETTING STUCK ISSUE
Here, try this file guys. Someone over in the Jedi threads made a CWM flashable TWRP zip. You can thank me for bringing it to your attention if you want, but I did not create this ( I just clicked on the attachment paperclip for the thread and browsed through all the attachments because I knew I saw it somewhere in the development section...)
I also checked TWRP's own website and for the Hercules, v.2.3.1.1 is the latest version supported for our device so far but I only found 2.3.0.0 packed in a recovery flashable form.
Just flash it via CWM like any other zip and once its done it'll reboot your device automatically to system, so just reboot it back to recovery to make sure it worked. It did for me when I did awhile back with v.2.2.2.0 and I just used the below file to flash and update it in TWRP to v.2.3.0.0
Hope it helps

If you have either I guess it doesn't really matter. Just install/flash the attached file below just like you would any other rom via your recovery.
After it installs reboot back into recovery and you will see the old recovery replaced with the latest TWRP for the T989.
Lemme know if this works for ya.

[Q] GT-N7100 boot issue

Hello all,
I have had my Gt-n7100 for about a year now and have been on Omega Rom v 18. Last night I installed the Paranoid Android version 3.99 (RC2) and subsequently the GAPPs. Everything worked quite fine and was even able to pair my bluetooth device. At this stage, I rebooted the device and since then, it is stuck at the 'Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100' screen.
I am able to get to recovery mode (TWRP) and tried restoring from my nandroid back - successfully restored the system
I installed the Omega ROM v18 again through recover. I installed the PA Rom (4.3) again and tried all wipe, factory reset etc. I also tried installing the perseus kernal that was on my Omega Rom.
The porblem is that all installations through the recovery complete succesully, however, upon trying to reboot, the phone is stuck on the logo screen.
Any ideas on what I could do to fix the problem?
Thanks,
Vijay
Try philZ recovery and select option "clean to flash a new rom" in factory reset option..manually format system/cache/data..it should surely fix the problem

Mannyviny,
Thank you for such a quick response. Would like your suggestion on how to proceed to install philz recovery. I see there are plenty of versions available. Any particular one that you would recommend? Also, if I change the recovery, will I be able to use my earlier nandroid backup to recover from? Finally, could I just download the recovery zip, put it on a sd card and install it through the install option of the TWRP recover?
Thanks once again for an extremely quick response. Look forward to your suggestions on the above.

If u change recovery u cant use ur earlier backup..for eg u cant restore cwm backup from twrp and vice-versa.. but u can restore cwm backup from philz recovery and vice- versa since philZ is a modified cwm recovery
Thirdly, YES
U can install downloaded zip from twrp install option.
Good luck

Boot issues on GT-N7100
Hi all,
I had this issue resolved. However, last night I flashed the PA 4.3 rom followed by the GAPPS zip. The installation completed but the phone never completed the boot. I went into recovery and tried restoring. The restore completed but since then the phone is again stuck on the 'Samsung Galaxy Note II' boot screen.
I currently have PhilZ recovery and am able to get to recovery. I tried a few wipes and now, am unable to restore the earlier backups with the error message 'unable to load /data' after the /system restore.
I tried installing the Omega v 18 ROm, which completed successfully, however, after the install, the phone is still stuck on the Galaxy Note II boot screen.
Any body with any ideas to help, please!??

Please can you tell us all steps by rooting The tab , and become your prob.
Was The rooting sucsesful, and you can Boot to The Rom, or comes this prob directly after flash The recovery and manuell booting Into The recovery?
Have you install The Quickboot APP?
After I flash the recovery it Is only booting to recovery, it won't allow Me to do Anything else
EDIT: I fixed it, just reflashed it to stock then flashed recovery and gained root access with universal root!

I flashed the latest 4.2.2 firmware through odin, because it was recovery looping, I have the link for the firmware if you want it.
I then flashed philz touch cwm through odin also, after that I installed the universal root through cwm and boom, it works
