When are our phones going to get the 4G lte upgrade?
Now that you're done gut laughing, how come when I flash a rom with a full wipe, my data speeds will be awesome even on 3g, but then later on that day or maybe the next day or so, the speeds just turn right back into the slow ass normal sprint crappy speeds? Anyone else notice this at all? Are there any logical reasons for this? It's so extreme I would almost call it throttling my speeds cause its so significant. It will happen at my house or at work where I know it's not just the change in location that affects the speed. Will go from restoring all my apps in next to no time, to barely downloading a <1 mb app update in less than 5 to 6 minutes.
I notice it on any rom really as long as I do a full wipe. Aosp or tw, it doesn't matter ether or.
And upon searching the web for this issue I found people asking quite frequently about lte on our phones and found it quite comical.
Thanks for any info!

Maybe it's dependant on the time that you're using said data? I imagine it'd be slower with more people on, and peak times should be at 8pm+

Anyone else notice that on large file downloads on 4g, after a few minutes you get throttled to 3g speeds? This includes YouTube and large apps on the play store. And once it's done, the speeds go back to normal.

I have 4 full bars and my 3g keeps dropping, not fully connecting, and downloads around 5kilobytes a sec. I went from cm7 back to my nand of stock sense and still have the problem. I can barely load xda.
Anyone got any ideas why?

Maybe there is some kind of outage where you live?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
Yeah what above said. I get 2 bars avg in my house and get about 800kbps, 4 bars I get 1mbps, They may be working on the towers out there also
Any chance you might have given them reason to throttle you data connection down?
I also experience dramatic drops in data speeds at peak times and it is location specific where I live. At 2300 in my neighborhood I get great speeds, but at the same time at work (which is full of people still awake and likely using their network) I get really bogged down.
Either a possible factor?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
I think the reason why people get horrible speeds at work is because there is probably too much electronic interference.
But then again, when someone says "work" I imagine someone sitting in a cubicle.

Interesting, 4 bars at my place equals 1.5 to 2.5 mpbs and 1 bar equals around 7-800 kbps.

besides the "3G hack" is there anyway to prevent from being throttled on a non rooted 2.3.3 dinc2?
I was under the impression that even with the hack you can get throttled
But I also understand you need to be using GBs/month to make that happen. Most people would have a hard time getting there.
I stream Pandora ALL the time, and I usually get between 1 and 2 GBs of useage. I'm also using my phone for most of my internet browsing.

There's a lot of things that will influence your throughput. Signal strength is only one of a few. Signal quality and available bandwidth will also influence it. A strong signal with a bit of noise will cause problems.
Try *228 option 2, then reboot, and see if it helps.

There's only two verizon towers in my city if that helps lol. I don't know much about towers but I know one of them is 4G because we have 4G here
I live in Orlando area, and I'm having issues with 3G today as well. Phone keeps trying to sync also. I think Verizon may have network issues today. I haven't installed any new apps, and I only use 1 widget that syncs, which is Twitter.

Verizon is cracking the whip on "free" tethering. I read in an article that it can be tracked if your phone is on gingerbread. I'm not sure, maybe one of the devs could weigh in, but I read there was code written into GB to help them track it. If I can find the article, I'll link it.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
A full day with completely great weather. Maybe two because god only know how internet traffic is. A week if you want to be all scientific and such.
If possible try it out before 7am, or after 11pm. I have had modems make me think they suck only to find out they are the best of the worst at a given time. I'm still on el29 as it is the best in my area it seems, used to think it stunk, but after a few days i realized it gave me the most consistent(still terrible, thx sprint) download speed during peak usage times. I also always look at download speeds from the market getting apps as a comparison to say speedtest.net, as most speed apps are fairly unreliable.

Lately my data use has quadrupled and I use WiFi about 90% of the time. I've used 65 % of my 10gb. I have a week to go. I just switched us to mobile share last month. I am wondering if I have something wrong with my phone.
What makes you think its you and not someone else on the share plan?

Well a little history is in order I suppose.
I've never come close to my 3GB cap. When I started in mobile share, I signed up for the 6 GB plan. Within two weeks I was at 65% of allotted use, so I switched to 10GB. Two weeks later I was again approaching the limit. I don't stream video, or Pandora, or anything like that. Something in my device is constantly connecting to 4G I'm seeing dumps of 50-60 MB at a time when I know for sure I'm home and on wifi.
I've seen what you guys are have been talking about. I don't download music or anything just average use like Pandora, Facebook, and of course xda.... And where I used to use around 4 ro 5 gigs a month my last bill showed I had used 17.2 gigs. Glad I'm grandfathered in on the unlimited plan. But seems strange how data has went up so drastically but I haven't changed the way I've used this phone and I've had it since the day it came out.

What rom are you running? I'm on rooted stock jelly bean. I've never seen data use like I am seeing
Serenity 1.2 note 2 port, and but have been running this rom a long while. I my data usage has just jumped up this past month by triple or more!
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
That's what I'm experiencing as well.
I just noticed something. When connected to Wi-Fi I still see the 4g lte indicator. It didn't turn off until I switched on airplane mode then enabled Wi-Fi after I disabled airplane mode, the mobile indicator stayed off. I wonder if mobile data isn't shutting off when I have Wi-Fi enabled.
Did you install any new apps when you started to notice this happening?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Nope. Just updated to rooted stock jellybean.
I tend to go through a lot of data but I went through 5 gigs one day
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I can confirm this on stock rooted JB...I've gone through 3 GB of data and I haven't even been downloading/streaming. If you use Avast! AV there's a network monitor that tracks your data usage. Mine says "system apps" are responsible for the heavy usage, but doesn't specify which apps.
Given a rooted device, BetterBatteryStats can track data usage with (theoretically - without knowing exactly what the problem is, this is an educated guess) a better breakdown of services than just "system data". Might be worth a try.

Looks like a spike that happens from time to time. Radio tower work, server work or a large amount of users using tons of bandwidth at once. Or well, all 3. Just play the waiting game with this and post back.

Wow dude my wife would kill me. Did all your apps redownload after you flashed? Every time I flash a new ROM, my phone redownloads all my apps for me. So every time I go right to the play store and stop all downloads. Or kill your data. The only app I redownload is titanium backup. If I was smarter I would probably just save it to my SD card. Hope this helped.
Apparently, redownload isn't a word. Thanks, autocorrect.

Take a deep breath...now relax. Hunt around and you'll see that it was due to some stuff that got merged a while ago. Long story short, it's an error that does not reflect actual data usage. It erroneously totals numbers crazy high.
I don't think he would have 33 GB of apps! Plus that much data in just 3 hours? Something is skewed!

Actually he could, the magic of 4G. It could be incorrect data measuring, but OP, are you on AT&T? If so, dial *3282# to see the amount of data used that month. Accidental thanks for you diablo

How much free space did you have?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
3G average speeds are about 3 Mb/s, so lets do some math! 33.5 GB=about 268Gbs. 268 times 1000=268000. 268000 divided by 3, giving you the amount of seconds it would hypothetically take. You get 89333.3. You divide that by 60 for one whole minute and should get 1488.88, which you divide by 60, to find out how many hours it would take to download at that speed. Which is 24.814 hours. There you have it, not very plausible.

Right. My mistake. I just tried a converter, and to download 11 GB an hour, you need atleast 26Mbps sustained, and on AT&T 4G LTE, average of 36 Mbps is quite the norm for me. So it is actually possible. Thanks Rani.

Try the other APN.
Two are listed from bell.
When in Vancouver or Kingston/ Toronto I can go on XDA over the network...
But when I am in Belleville Ontario I can't connect to XDA for example.
pda.bell.ca has given me issues at times and I have better luck with inet.bell.ca
Next time I am in a XDA dead zone I'll switch around my apns and see if that helps.
But I am sure inet.bell.ca I'd the better one.
