[Q] Is my phone even rooted??!! - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my first ever post on xda so some form of help would be really appreciated.
I just rooted my phone (at least, that's what I think) and the problem is, I have superuser installed. Also, I'm able to install and use titanium backup without any problems thus far.
BUT, I heard that you can use Android Validator to check if your phone is rooted. I used it, and it seems that only the top three bars are green. The bottom two (something about busybox) are red in colour. So, is my phone really rooted? Or, should I unroot my phone and try rooting it again?
Thanks in advance. Any suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but you also need to install BusyBox (Stepehn Stericsson) from the Play Store, it is free but there is also a paid version to support the dev.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028103
Check up this and flash the superuser busy box zip file found in this thread

Y do u need busybox? If the reason u want to be rooted is to use tibu and it works fine. . Just let it be. . If it ain't broken don't fix it.

Will I have to Unroot to recieve the OTA upate?

Just wondering if my Incredible will be able to receive the update while I am rooted.
Also can somebody walk me through the unrooting process. I saw someone say just "wipe the phone" and while I understand what that means, I just don't know how to do it myself.
Any info on either of these 2 subjects would be tremendously appreciated.
Thanks!
I'm wondering this too. Or will we just lose root if we apply it on a rooted phone.
This link will direct you to a tutorial on unrooting.
http://androidforums.com/all-things...ideo-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html
From what I understand, you will need to unroot for update.
I assume the community normally releases versions of the updates that don't require this?
U cannot receive an official update unless u have the stock recovery. If u used unrevoked tool u have clockwork. In other words u can receive it if u r rooted but only if u have stock recovery.

OK, so since I rooted the "old-fashioned" manual way I should be able to receive OTA's?
I did end up unrooting last night using the video by mejdam on Youtube. Boy, I wish I had known that I didn't need to do that! Now I have a lot of work to do! I spent all night restoring my apps that I backed-up with Astro. Thank god for that at least. Next time I will take screen shots of my home pages before I wipe the phone. I had everything how I liked it
I thought that the OTA update after the downgrade was the one to give me 720p, etc. I was SORELY disappointed when I found out it wasn't. Basically I just did all of this for nothing yay. Now to come full circle by getting rooted again!
What a life I lead
Am I getting this right? I rooted over a month ago the more manual way before unrevoked3 was running.
Is it possible to root and still have stock recovery?
Also does anyone else have an opinion on my initial question? I really don't feel like unrooting again...
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
If you simply wait, after the OTA is actually official, the unrevoked team will incorporate the new stuff into their painless root tool and you will be able to safely update and maintain root access at the same time.
You don't need to do anything before then except have some patience.

You didn't have to go through all of that! I don't know how you missed this tip, because I swear it's in like every post about messing around with stuff after rooting: TITANIUM BACKUP! There's a free version and it allows you to backup ALL of your apps to the exact settings you had setup (something you can't do while not rooted) and then whether you un-root, install a rom, whatever - all you have to do is run the batch "restore all my apps" option and voila! they're all back like they never left.
Search for a guide on how to use it, it's "somewhat" confusing at first - but not bad and I know most of the people with rooted Inc's swear by it.
Hey thanks for the recommendation, Milk dude. I haven't been checking the forum as much as I need to lately. My office is sweltering even at night so I do most of my forum browsing on my Inc. Anyway I will have to give titanium backup a try. Thanks again.

Root has disappeared! What do i do?

Hi, i asked this question in development by mistake and it got deleted so here goes. I rooted my E4GT and then installed CWM. Everything was fine until i went to install an app that required root. It said i didn't have root. I installed Root Check and it said i didn't have root. Can someone please tell me how my root has disappeared and how i can get it back. Thanks
Sorry if this is kind of a newb question
Install super user from the market
If you deleted it that could be the problem
If that doesnt work follow the steps to regularly root your phone

nvm i got it. I was curious and went back into root check and it said i had root. thanks for the help anyways
I would tell you to dig a little deeper into the dirt to see if it's still there, but I can see you found it.

Issues Rooting with Superoneclick

Hi, I have tried rooting about 20 times (not even kidding), and almost every time it gets stuck on step #7. I have installed drivers from LG and have phone in debugging mode. (I tried doomlord, but it won't recognize my Nitro) Does anyone have any advice to help me root my Nitro?
*Mods, feel free to move this to the rooting section, it just wouldn't let me post in there*
Try rooting it the way they root the optimus. That's what I did and it worked fine.

Did you use the latest SuperOneClick 2.3.3 for rooting your device? I can confirm it works with LG LU6200...
http://www.box.com/s/245a1043a874497c26e7
If this isn't working for you, this should:

(its working in ADB mode, make sure your device is in USB debugging mode and connected to your PC)
Good luck!
Use doomlords root

Use SuperOneClick v.2.3.2 and not 2.3.3. The latest version don't want to root our Nitro. I can't understand why, but 2.3.2 version root very well.

Remove the SD card( or unmount it), i got the same problem here and it thats what worked
What worked for me was installing the Android SDK package.
I was hanging at step #7 as well and after installing the package it went through.

Click on a link in my signature and download from my guide. I have an issue to upload the file right here.
problems rooting too!
So this being my first post and all please dont freak. I searched as best I could to find the proper thread to ask this and this seemed like the best option. So here it goes.
I myself tried rooting my phone with Superoneclick and after numerous attempts I failed miserably. So I tried Doomlord's rooting method. I thought I had figured it out because at the end it said "OK!" and it even rebooted my phone but when I tried to DL Titanium backup and busybox it said it could not gain root access. My question is, first would it be safe to attempt the root process again, or if not any ideas on what I might have done wrong and maybe a solution to fix it?
Thanks again
P.S dear Mod if this was the inappropriate place to post this I apologize in advance.
i would download the superuser app and see if tibu finds root
also, there should be no prob running the rooting app again if you choose to, if you are rooted already it should return a *already rooted* message.
So I tried dl superuser and that did nothing. I even did a master reset maybe thinking that I might of changed a setting I want suppose to, and even that didn't work. Like I said I can't get SOC past step 7 and I've tried all the tips I read on here to get past that problem but nothing. Doomlords looks like it worked and it reboots my phone but still nothing. I would really truly appreciate any help!
thanks again

I cant get my screen shot to upload. I've tried everything. Anyhow, I still can't get my phone rooted. When I rooted my Aria, I used a program on my MAC that rooted it in about 20 seconds. Whatever happened to that?

Apples and oranges. The two programs used to install custom recovery on the Aria utilize exploits in the HBOOT, which is something only HTC devices have.
What software version do you have on your device? (Look in Settings > About Phone > Software version)
I'm having the same situation. Everything I've read says that if you did the security update without root already then you can't root now. I would love for some one to prove me wrong and show me a way. IM running 2.3.5 v10j with kernel 2.6.35.11.

You have the recent update installed which makes it impossible to root the device. There are still methods to get the device rooted but it is not simple and basically involves this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488
I would urge you to make sure you know what you're doing before attempting this though.
I had the above problem with not being able to root my phone due to the software version i had. I had to use the "unbricking guide" and after some challenges i was able to restore the phone to stock with root. It is risky, but at this moment im not sure theres any other way to do it, unless someone with programming skills can find an alternate method to go back to a previous version of the software without resetting or unbricking the entire phone.

Thanks thats good. But my question now is..... I didn't see the ROM said you tried to flash in the ATT Dev section? Can you post a link or describe the ROM better. No ROMS should make you lose root access.

Cyanogen Mod 10.1.3.1 thats because I used ROM Mgr for all my roms like most of us do I believe, and use Xda for all of my stock Jb ROM downloads along with oden. I flashed through Clockwork Recovery and this is the first time I flashed a ROM and lost root after aperantly other people are having some of the same probs.
I would recommend you don't use that ROM especially if other people are having issues. I would recommend the cyanogenmod ROMS and the hyperdrive Touchwiz ROMS.

This might help but I'm not so sure but this might help: Go to Settings>Developer Options and Above the sub-menu "Debugging" there's Root Access, by default it should be Apps Only but hopefully this could help a little...

Hey!!!, So I had the same problem; I've searched and searched for almost 2 months for an answer... and nothing. To be honest I was actually just going to give up and accept CM10.1.3.1 as my phone's tomb. Although, I finally fixed it in the oddest way—essentially fiddling around with the phone before bed.... serious ciber-ich—So forget anything anyone has even talked about, up to this point, because it isn't a problem with your phone; in fact you are still rooted, you've just lost access to your root due to a root-permission war between your phone and superuser/supersu (what eva).
So if anyone is interested in fixing this, here, this is what I did to fix it.
This was my first failed attempt
1) Reinstall Root (Fail!!!!)
2) Use new super User (Fail!!!!!!)
3) Reinstall CM (Fail!!!!!!!!)
4) Wait for an answer on google (fail!!)
5) Wait for an answer on here ( double fail!!!!)
Here's the Fix
1) Reinstall Root with SuperSU ( Probably didn't need to do this; however, due to all the superuser-instalation-overkill, it's probably best.)
2) Uninstall all other superuser apps you may have on your phone—also do not use CWM Superuser (It doesn't have what it takes)
3) Go to App Management, uninstall SuperSU's last update
4) Clear SuperSU's catch (self explanatory)
5) Go into AppDrawer, Open SuperSU app and make sure
- Enabled -- Yes
- Survival mode -- No
- Logging -- Access only
- Trust System User -- Yes
- *************** Respect CM root settings********** no!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not respect that ****!!!!!!!!
6) Enjoy your root access again :victory:
If anyone has any questions, just message me. I hope this was of help to anyone going through the same pain I had gone through.
For some more info on my phone.
- I'm running a I747m GSIII CM10.1.3.1d2att

Rooting when rooted?

I rooted my T-Mo Galaxy S4 with Oden through my PC, downloaded the root checker app, and it says I'm rooted. If for any reasons I have doubts of it truely being rootes (as in I did everything correctly), can I reroot it with no problems, cautions, and/or unexpexted possible variables? Or should I unroot then root again? I appreciate anyone taking the time to read and answer my question. Thank you.

Don't become a victim of root - paranoia, just do all that "rooted " stuff like getting rid of your bloatware and installing custom roms and don't worry about re-rooting. Life is too short.

You can root as many times as you'd like. All rooting does is copy a file into a protected part of the ROM - usually SuperSU.
However, if Root Checker is saying you are rooted, you are.
You can also open SuperSU, and look at the settings and see what it says. Or, if you open an app that requests root access, you should get a notification, where you can give root to that app, or deny it. And, if you already have given it access, you will get a popup showing when SuperSU give the root access to that app. If you haven't already done so, the important root apps to get are file explorers. I like ESFileExplorer available in the Play Store. However, since you seem to be a newbie READ, READ, READ before you start deleting, changing anything with your phone.
