You got to be kidding me!
I just purchased S3 from ebay and one thing that doesn't work is NFC, as you said, nothing happens, neither tags nor phone-to-phone...saw your post, opened up the case and viola - anker battery...
I did wonder if the antenna was in the case lid, like on Note2, apparently samsung had a "better" idea.
Thank you for tip.
It won't work if you have an aluminum back cover either.

Just saying, wouldnt it be great? Ive been looking around hoping i can find anyone who might sell or make them to no avail.

Iphone has these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Luxury-Steel-Aluminum-Chrome-Hard-Back-Case-Cover-iPhone-4-4S-Silver-Gift-/270837391940
But im not sure how good they might be. Possibly interfere with reception?
I mean all htcs have one. Not too sure if it would interfere with reception or not. I think it just makes the phone feel much nicer, both aesthetically and better practicality as it gives it more protection i would assume. I would be all over this if anyone can find one. Ill be the guinea pig to buy and test for review.

Yea if anyone finds anything out that would be cool to post. I would like to buy one if there is one out there.

Metal battery cover would cause the NFC to not work seeing as the antenna is in the battery.

Very true.
Sent from my Beastly SGS2!
yeah .... because everyone actually uses the NFC.....
Or they could make a metal/plastic one. Metal were the battery is not and plastic were it is. Just a thought

I would just go for different color ones right now.
White would be great, just like the international one.. Just plain sexy, I had it for my vibrant and it looked like a completely different phone.

I honestly have not come across any obstacle that involved NFC. As of right now NFC is sort of a gimmick until America fully adopt it. It would be fun to pay for things with my phone instead of reaching in my back pocket for my wallet. I think once Apple phones get NFC then American businesses will most likely hop on since Apple is the leader (in the average consumer eyes) of phones.

Hey everybody, I googled extended batteries for the gs3 & came across a mugen branded extended battery. I have never heard of it till' today, & have never purchased from them before, do any of you guys have one, or know someone who does? I'm looking for an extended battery but without all the bulk, any recommendations?
I actually have this.
I can't really whether there is a difference. I feel it is about the same or slightly better. Is there an app that can measure? If so, I can let you know.

check out my thread with the anker battery tested and proven more than stock...i dont want to talk down on mugen as i have not used their battery on this phone.
isn't this battery 3.7v while stock is 3.8v? i don't think you will get much benefit from this battery over stock.

Yeah, I've always used seidio in the past, but being that the gs3 is so thin I don't wanna' turn it into a brick :/

I've heard of anker batteries before, just never used them myself, do they have nfc as well?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I don't know what link you are referring to. I bought it straight from mugen.
My advise is just get a replacement stock battery. I think the additional amount doesn't justify it.
I just can't tell the difference.

Can someone tell me where exactly is the NFC chip located in the s3 and also why is NFC written on the battery? I have read somewhere that NFC is located in the battery but is that possible?
Thanks
The NFC antennae are located on the back of the battery.

The NFC capabilities of the phone are in the battery. This is why if you are looking to buy batteries online for the SIII you will see some of them have NFC and some don't.
Just out of curiosity, why ask?

I was planning to buy a replacement battery so wanted to confirm it once. So you tell me that if the battery is replaced with a normal battery, NFC wont work right?
Also one more thing, how does data transfer happen thru the battery?

Magic, obviously.... or there could be wires that connect to the phone.

there are extra contacts for it. there is also a foil antenna under the cover of the battery much like what is inside of an nfc tag
I replacijg the back cover of Note2 and suddenly realised that the NFC tags are no more working. I located the NFC chip at the back of the original COVER. I then opened my S3 and there was nothing a NFC chip located in the back cover of this phone. Is it really through the battery? Why NOTE 2 misses out on this feature?

I think it is we who are missing out on the feature. I'd much prefer the nfc chip in the back cover rather than the battery. Nfc enabled batteries are really expensive.

Be carefull with other then original battery covers. I bought an aluminium one from ebay and the nfc signal wont get through it
i was wondering if anyone knows if the international galaxy note 2 battery cover will fit the US version? I seen a nice black leather cover on ebay and i want it, i noticed the international versions dont have the NFC prongs but i can do without that for now
Yes, just your nfc wont work.

The international stock back does have nfc. The cheap ebay aftermarket parts don't

Does anyone remember when Some guy made a door lock that can be unlocked by text message? My idea is essentially like that, but instead having an NFC tag placed on the door frame so that the door cab be unlocked by tapping the phone up to the tag. Is this possible?

Not sure about using a tag but a few hotels are doing this with an app and NFC. Here is another thread discussing the technology: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795621

Neither of those contain NFC to lock/unlock the door though.
Edit: Never mind, I just noticed the part about the NFC in the Lockitron FAQ saying something about the potential of including an NFC tag free of charge.
