Ok so i got myself a Note II , it was used by a guy I know for 2 days but he didnt like it I guess. He sold it to me. Anyways, it came with SuperSU installed and since i can install Titanium Backup and successfully backup apps, root is obviously working. But I can't install a custom recovery on it for the life of me. Goo Manager or Rom Manager just report "recovery installed" but when i reboot to recovery it's still the stock one. Also the weird thing is if i select "install update" in stock recovery, it hangs a bit then reports the "cant mount sd card" thingie. How do i proceed with this ? I was thinking Odin + stock unrooted ROM then try from step 1 again, but then again I'm not sure what the previous "owner" might have done with the device. Please advise. Thanks
Oh yeah, the firmware is XXALIJ , and the device came from O2 ( which is irrelevant AFAIK )
What model is your galaxy note 2?

Hello all,
This is my third Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile and this is the hardest phone to root, lol. For some reason when I flashed ClockWorkMod Recovery via ODIN it does not want to read any files on SD or Internal. It keeps erroring out saying "bad file". The first and second phones did this, but it would actually push the Superuser APK over anyway after boot, but this phone isn't. Renaming it doesn't help either. I've used three different versions of CWM, including the touch release and NADA...ZIP. I even tried flashing a pre-rooted ROM and it still will say "bad file". Please help. If I have to flash a rooted ROM via ODIN, I'll bite the bullet, but any suggestions will be helpful.

ZedoMax has created a very helpful website with videos and step by step instructions on how to root, install ROMs etc. Check out the website below, it should help you out, it really helped me out.
If you want to Root and have the option of installing ROMs, check out the link below:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/
If you are only interested in Root access and don't want to install ROM's, check out the link below:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-newworks-on-all-galaxy-s2-variants/
Thanks. I can at least root it now. Got all the bloatware off of it. The first two phones I could put custom roms on it, but this one is a piece, lol. I even put the old firmware 2.3.5 on this one and clockwork still errors out. Shoulda kept the first one-ran smooth with Jugs rom, brought it back to the store because of the green camera issue, lol.
And I am now rocking Jug 5.0! Turned off signature verification and fixed permissions and it worked.
Hello all, my First post so please bear with me, Been using these forums for quite a while and all answers have been allready given, so no need to post... till now.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 i747 running android 4.1.2 OTA update and used CF-Autoroot. No problems there,
installed Rom manager, and cwm recovery touch. no problem
When I restart in recovery mode, also everything seems fine...
When I try to backup the phone however using cwm recovery it starts backing up everything including system but the just as it starts data the phone restarts.
Tried reinstalling cwm over and over different versions.. nada same result..
went into the settings to mount the various options as suggested to another user. same problem nada...
To be completely clear, I am trying to make a backup of my stock / rooted only Galaxy s3 i747 onto it's own storage NOT SDcard.
as I also could not figure that out either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Erdericks1976
Sorry about misleading Subject. This is about making my first backup successfully..
Followup.
Well seems there are/were more problems here than I thought, it has begun randomly? restarting,..
Well. not Ramdomly. Whem specific apps are run it would restart.
I did a titanium backup and it would backup alot of the apps. but them would restart the phone when it got to 1 specific app.
I think I figured out what I did wrong here.
I have a Galaxy Note 2, and I may have flashed something from it by mistake......
so I have restarted my Gs3 From scratch Re-Following all instructions.. waiting to test and see if CWM works to back it up now..
It sure was faster with the Note2 rooted Kernel though. (if that was in fact what happend)
I'll update soon as its done..
Followup 2
Yep. that musta been it. Used the correct stock (rooted) Rom
OTA updated from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2, then used CF auto root to Re-root, then reinstalled SU and CWM and Backing up now.
Just passed the Data section the phone would always restart at...

Okay, I just replaced my Google Galaxy Nexus with the Verizon Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545) Build JSSI5J.I545VRUEMK2
first I downloaded the odin and stock rom to have on hand, just in case...
I first tested to see if I could use odin to go from stock rom to stock rom, just as a test and we are all set there..
second I rooted the phone...awesome great, right? Wrong
after rooting and confirming root with root checker, I loaded Rom Manager, flashed it with the latest recovery...rebooted to recovery and bam I get an error message "android system recovery <3e>"
I have even manually downloaded the recovery from CWM
I have tried rooting with both saferoot&disableKNOX as well as I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL, the VerizonGalaxyS4RootMDK, and I have done the LOKI method, I still get the same recovery error message.
So as far as I can get is a rooted device, I cannot get a custom recovery loaded successfully even though CWM say the flash is successful
Anyone, have any ideas where I am going wrong? this is driving me crazy and I am pulling all my hair out...oh wait, I don't have any...lol
Please help, it would be much appreciated!

Have you tried UNLOCKING your device first? Sometimes this happens when the phone is locked to a certain company and when you try to do custom roms they aren't successful sometimes due just this fact, at least for me this worked on my Verizon S4 (I don't care much about warranties anymore once I change roms)
Hope this works

Or are you talking about CARRIER unlocking the SIM? If so do you happen to have a reference for doing this to a Verizon Phone?

i got exact same problem only i can root my device so far any solution ?
Verizon locked bootloaders. I tried this with twrp and had that issue too
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I realize this a 2-year-old post, but would you happen to still have the stock firmware (I545VRUEMK2) for this thing? I have an older Jellybean unit that I need to fix (and want to keep JB as I can root it easily).
Thanks
Hey guys!
Sorry if this matter has already been approaced, but... i wouldn't know what keywords to search for.
I have a Gio, that came with gingerbread 2.3.4 and was updated to 2.3.6 via samsung update app.
Due to veeeery low internal storage i need a lighter rom so i thought of LightOrange v7. Wasn't keen on it but something had to be changed.
My device wasn't rooted, so i made no backups of any apps or the rom that was already on it, nor did i have any rom managers installed.
I went into cfw (i understand it's called - power button + home key) and from there i selected update from sd card. The new rom installed with the pretty interface, and when it was done it told me to reboot.
At startup, the first startup screen appeeared (the one where "samsung" is the only word) and then went to the second screen (where it says ~samsung galaxy gio S5660) and it got stuck there.
I entered the cfw again, and did a factory reset, clear cache, reinstall and so on, but all i get is the phone getting stuck at that second startup screen.
So... what is there to do?
Will another rom placed on the sd card -> installing from cfw do the trick? or is my path to repairing the device longer?
Hey
I'm not sure if installing a new rom over the old one will help, you can always try I guess
But you can also just start for scratch and just get your phone back to stock rom using this guide: THIS
And if I'm understanding you correctly you didnt install any recovery to backup and install the custom rom? Because I think you're going to need CWM as recovery.
Hope it helped
Solved.
Installed clockworkmod from sd card, using the default "update from sd card'".
And from there installing a rom was as simple as it should be
It would have been usefull if someone had given me this solution as a reply to my thread...
I am a frequent experience Android user and have been flashing Roms since like forever.
Owning gs4 been nice installing Roms all the time however recently when I went to install new gpe ROM (new kernel seemed prime to have) coming from HDrom rls20 I downloaded currupt zip. When I tried installing currupt zip (not knowing yet it was currupt) it gave me red errors not allowing me to proceed.. Then, I turned off device got fresh dload and made sure md5 sum was legit and it was tried again of course first factory data reset with advanced system wipe the ROM proceeded to aroma installer this time.. Attempting to install I chose all my settings and it went to progress bar to install and skipped any system extraction and went straight to Apks.. Batch completed and I hadn't a ROM installed for it took it 5seconds.. I have had this problem in the past before and I sold it they returned it (didn't like condition) and bingo I was able to install Roms again (this was way back in the day with this same gs4) I'm assuming system partition not mounting because also when I tried installing that currupt file it was saying in red unable to mount system and stuff. Luckily I downloaded NK2 firmware (took 8hs) and am fine on stock but I'm hoping someone has a clue to point me in right direction.. I saw forum of somebody with similar issue their fix was pushing zip via computer adb commands then installing. I'll have to give it a try but sticking to stock for a bit. BTW this happens with every ROM just skips system files in fact cyanogenmod just hhung at installation wouldn't fail or complete. I used TWRP LATEST. Please help developers I'm sure this ones a no brainer for y'all. Except seems like issue only I've encountered for this isn't a popular thing at all on google.
SOLVED
Thanks to somebody in gs3 forums all i had to do was push adb the rom and wow it worked installed system YAY IM HAAPPPYY

What does it mean to "push adb" a phone's rom? Doesn't Odin automatically flash the selected rom?
