Planning to upgrade to it in about a month. Are there any issues? Like my Infuse had the silent GPS unit recall and that screwed a lot of people. Any issues yet?
None.
Everything works great!

I came from the infuse, and in comparison the note is unreal.
Hard to believe, but there really is no problems.
Only problem i have is people randomly coming up to me interviewing me about my huge phone
I'm totally pleased with my note. I haven't even felt the need to root it, it's that good out of the box.
The only gripe I have is with the stock keyboard not auto-correcting. It has predictions line swift key has, but auto-correction sucks. The only reason this is an issue is because the stock keyboard is the only one that has handwriting recognition, which is really awesome to have on this phone.
If I'm missing something here regarding the stock keyboard, please let me know, because I'd really love to be able to use handwriting without having to switch keyboards back and forth.

Great so far. Loving it more than my SGS3. I was ready to throw my SGS3 against the wall because I couldnt get the battery to last more than 12 hours. My GN2 lasts 24+ with moderate usage.
Went from iPhone 4 to SGS3 now to the GN2 and loving it. Got the GN2 instead of upgrading my current Nexus 7 to the 3G Nexus 7.

Yeah, I was never a fan of the swiping. But the auto correction works decently if you swipe it out. It's a learning curve for me too. I'm getting better and after just a day I'm about as accurate as I am with the keyboard I was using before. What finally got me to really try was the multi view. Having the keyboard pop up and float makes it much easier than taking up the whole bottom of the screen. Plus I love that number row.
I would like to see an option to enable the auto correct, though.
I keep forgetting how big this phone is. It still catches me off guard when people say it's big, it really doesn't feel big anymore.

Hii,, i'm going to upgrade to N2 also but i'm worry about my app data as I'm using titanium backup app and it's great but i think it's working only with rooted device and i don't wont to root the N2,,
So dose titanium back work with it without root i any one can try it for me.... and if not there it any other app which can transfer app data??

Titanium backup won't work without root. There are some app backup programs that don't need root, but none of them will backup the data. At least none I have found. Why don't you want to root the phone?

Rooting doesn't void your warranty. You can flash back to stock and with triangle away there is no lasting indication you did anything. I don't think there is any real chance of brick from rooting. I haven't seen someone bring a Samsung for a while that wasn't caused by user error flashing something meant for another device. I have seen HTC deny claims due to unlocked Bootloader, but only when dealt with direct, AT&T hasn't been. And I have never seen a report of Samsung denying warranty for something like that.

I heard rooting does void warranty and triangle away does remove flash count but your status in settings is labeled modified instead of normal. Prolly have to re flash.

If you reflash the stock ROM bad then use the USB Jig or triangle away, it will show your phone as completely stock. If you keep it rooted with custom ROM you're definitely gonna be labeled as "customized"
Best phone I've ever owned, couldn't be happier. Upgraded to this from the Galaxy S3, and I see a MAJOR boost in performance and battery life. Highly recommend.
Fantastic phone without a doubt! Every ROM I have tried has been superfast.
My only gripe with the phone (and I didn't notice it at first) is that the plastic back makes all kids of clicking/squeeking type noises. Plastic does that. The back feels very cheap made. I have a replacement back coming tomorrow that is made from aluminum. This will make the device feel so much more solid. I will lose a bit of signal strength, but I can't stand the cheap clicking lol.

Has anyone had any side effects from rooting the E4GT?
I have resisted rooting this phone for 2 weeks but now im starting to get the itch. I'm gonna use the auto root method seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 anyone have any side effects from this method? I have not had a LOS yet so im a little worried that may happen and also from my experience with the evo, rooting that seemed to degrade the camera/camcorder quality and the GPS seemed buggy. Anyone have anything similar happen rooting the E4GT?
The auto root is extremely easy doesn't hurt to root, just be sure to run a backup in case anything happens.

+1 for auto root. It's the easiest way to do it and if you had no problems before, you won't have any after. I have used sfhub's auto root method 5 or 6 times now, it is completely painless.
Yeah if a side effect is a better device then sure I have plenty of side effects from rooting
Never used autoroot, but I got my phone 2 weeks ago, rooted it the day I got it, then flashed some different ROMs on it. After you get over the small learning curve and do your backups when you need to it's a lot of fun to mess around with. Currently I got my phone setup exactly like I want ... Coming from an iPhone I can't believe how much better this phone is ... blows my mind!
All root does is give you the ability to modify the system partition. Windows, OSX, and Linux have built that ability in pretty much since their conception.
What can give you side effects is what you do with that ability.

Why not start from scratch, instead of limiting your phone?
Stock is REALLY good, when comparing to stock roms of other phones. But after I decided to try AOKP (the latest one, it's come a long way), it makes stock look so slow and sluggish. Don't limit yourself. For a stock rom it is very impressive, but compared to other stuff it's not that great.

I really don't want to root this phone because I either plan to exchange it back to T-mobile or sell it. Mostly exchange it because display has been acting very strange.
Only disappointing thing is no LED Notifications. Honestly I notice battery life improved since I updated to ICS could be just the notifications not wasting the battery.

So long story short i had an S3 since October, it was awesome I loved flashing roms & stuff until a week or 2 ago I flashed a theme that somehow resulted me in losing my IMEI so I restored it after reading some stuff n attempted to restore 4g using another guide but that failed after many tries n I gave up so I sold that S3 & got an iPhone 4s. I love the iPhone 4s even though it's a downgrade from the S3 but stuff like GPS bein accurate on foursquare, yelp, FB checkin etc & apps being so much more fluid is great however since Tmobile isn't really that iPhone compatible as they are refarming their network I would constantly be going from Edge to 3g from Edge to 3G & that's draining my battery & it gets annoying since Edge is super slow. So now I"m debating whether I wanna get another S3 off craigslist or just stick with my 4S. Sorta hard for me to decide since both phones have their pros & cons for me lol & I'm sorta scared if I get another S3 I might lose my IMEI once again so I might not even root it.

I would almost bet YOUR paycheck it is CWR. When I first came over to this phone, CWR was losing IMEI's daily. TWRP ftw!!!

I have succesfully converted all my family to Android from IOS, except my B/S.I.L. Those two just won't budge off Steve's Junk (pun intended) for some reason. I have even showed them how my tablet is "superior" to their IPad and IPad2 and they still won't even look into at the very least Jailbreaking. To each their own I guess. But my phone absolutely blows theirs away (1 I4 and 1 I5) with functionality, asthetics, ability and general Badass-ery. I have even bought my two sons Android tablets and taught them how to Root and why to do it.
Don't forget that Rooting =/= flashing a custom ROM/Kernel. Some people Root for the mere fact of backing up or disabling bloat and stay on stock for the duration.
That long story short was long

I have iphone5 and switched to GS3... I understand what you meant about "fluid" and it is what I really missed - and IP5 is even more fluid in that sense but it is the same old same old.
However, I have customized GS3 to a point that it is close enough. For a $400 GS3 on Craigslist vs a $650 IP5.... I will save $250 for not so fluid.
Now, I also just receive my Nexus 4.... that is real fluid..... but it really sux not having the SD card. So, I am likely sell the N4 and keep GS3....
I will see what is IP5s or GS4 next.... and Note 2 is really big.... definitely not for ONE HAND MAN.
By the way, there is an app that can save the NV/IMEI .... I back up my complete NV so I can restore it back if needed. No worry on losing the IMEI.

How many of you were trying to use your rooted stock galaxy s3, and when you were using it, it froze, resulting in a battery pull? I am sick of this. Either after writing a long post, message, or status and it freezes and losing it all, or just now, when I was downloading the MOAR ROM (800 mb), it took an hour and thirty mins, and then at 94% it froze. I returned a galaxy s3 STOCK NOT ROOTED for this same problem, and got another and it still does it. How many of you have the same problem? This is one of the few reasons I wish I havent gotten this phone. Do not get me wrong, I love this phone and all its features, but there are these few tiny things that make me really mad that is does it, that makes me regret it too.

Have never once had this problem on my GS3. Day one purchase too. Sorry to hear that.
I've had freezes due to custom kernel overclocking and undervolt testing, but once I found the right settings, I haven't had a single freeze...and it's been months.
Phone has ran its longest at 2 weeks 3 days 16 hours.
Never had this problem. Rooted since 2nd week in July.
No issues here either; rooted and blue-tified not long after getting it 6/21.
My first phone I had was a dud. The screen would flicker and freeze up. The only way it would fix itself was a battery pull. But it would start doing the same thing within a few minutes. I got my replacement and haven't had problems since. Maybe it's possible you got another dud? There worse thing that can happen is you get another bad phone, or you get a good one. If you'd get another bad one you could just see if they'll let you upgrade to a new phone early. Have a buddy who just that same thing, not with a s3 though.

Overheating means one of two things.
1. You phone is in an extremely marginal signal location and keeps switching between cells. Lots of radio activity at full power will heat up the phone.
2. An app is using lots of CPU power and/or data and may be "running away".
You should be able to get some clues on this by looking at battery stats to see what's using the most power.

I always thought it was something I did, but I took my first one in and it froze and heated up, now this one just freezes. I don't wanna take the 2nd one in because that is just extra work for sprint and I can deal with it. If my computer worked or I could download the moar rom (or any for that matter) without it freezing or restarting the download I wouldn't have this problem. Oh well. Nothing I can't deal with. Heck, it is a great phone.!

Must be some rogue app you install consistently.

I wonder what it could be though? I mean all I have are top notch apps that are like in the top 100 on play store. I don't download from play store without reading reviews.

Hard to tell. Perhaps someone here knows a diagnostic to tell which app freezes the phone.
But it's most likely something that runs as a service (under Settings/Apps/Running), probably something you yourself installed. I'd start there first. If you have a quick and reliable way to determine if it will lock up (like running some stress test, maybe a benchmark), perhaps you could "freeze" some of those apps in Titanium Backup and find out which app is responsible.
Are you switching to another device in January?

Just play with both and see what you like better. Personally I like to use android so I would go with the nexus 5 out of those two.
Wait till March and get the Galaxy S5. That lines you up perfectly for the new phone in the fall, whether thats a nicer android or the new Iphone. To get the most out of this program you have to line it up perfectly.
You mean theres something better? Worthy of throwing 6 months worth of payments down the drain for?
What about the new note? If you're into that.

Just remember, the Galaxy S5 will be either 4.3 or 4.4 which means Knox

Yeah, but it's going to have a 2560x1440p screen. So tempting, but I don't want to support something like Knox.
If I'm looking to upgrade to the N5 using the Jump program do I have to unroot my S4 to stock for the trade in…does anyone know…?

You always want to unroot and flash a device back to stock before taking it back to T-Mobile.
If the nexus line had replaceable batteries and an sd card slot I'd pick one up. As they don't i foresee migrating to the S5 sometime after it's released.
There's nothing right now that makes me want to dump my S4...

Everyone is so up in arms about KNOX, it really is no big deal, if you don't use it, it won't bother you, and if you are savvy, you can get around it. KNOX is needed for many corporations that allow sensitive information to be used on employee's mobile devices. Otherwise if you work in such a company and use any of your own devices and something goes wrong you have to sign a weaver that the company can and will confiscate your device, whether you paid for it or not! Yes, I'm lining up for the next galaxy because every device I have gotten from Samsung has been fast and snappy and very cool. I like being able to replace the batteries and also add different SD cards. SO many companies have removed that ability that it is a shame.

Didn't the GS3 get delayed till like June? I bet there will be delays with S5 because of the new display they will "supposedly" use, so if you change your phone now it will line up with a probable June/July release of the S5.

Knox IS a big deal for people who care about their warranty. You cannot (as of today) root without tripping Knox.
There too many "opinions" as to what Knox is for. Some say it won't get checked on warranty exchanges etc. How do you know?
Bottle line, you don't care about warranty, then root a S5 when ya get it .

I don't waste my money on jump and I keep my old devices because I always get what I paid for them or more.

I actually just checked on this today. T-mobile employees aren't even trained to check for the Knox fuse, and some don't even know what it is. They told me as long as the phone boots up and is usable it wont be a problem if there is no damage to the device. This information is provided by a manager. However this person did say they trade in rooted phones all the time, so I am better off bringing my Knox blown device into the store rather than doing the exchange by phone/mail.
Of course this is all subject to change at any point if T-mobile decides to instruct their employees to check for Knox. But as of the writing of this message, you're good to go.
I would like to wait and see what the Galaxy s5 looks like. Hoping for a metal body. I wish they would get rid of the home button. LG and HTC are also putting out some nice hardware.
This thread needs a poll! I plan to wait for either S5 or Note 4.
