Has ANYONE came back to the Galaxy Nexus from another phone? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Has ANYONE came back to the Galaxy Nexus from another phone? and if so, what phone and why are you back on the nexus?

Hey,
I used to Own a HTC One X... I came back to the GNex due two two reasons 1) Due to its timely Updates to the Latest Android OS 2) No Fuss in terms of Bootloader, Kernel etc. And a Bonus Reason - 4 Cores are an overkill on a phone for someone who doesnt game alot..the only things I miss is the 32 GB storage and Poly-carbonate Uni-body exterior and well offcourse the camera (not a huge deal breaker).
Cheers

i bought an s3 but didnt even open it, bought the gnex and returned the s3

iphone 4s, cant believe the price this thing sells, its looks like it was made 3 years ago...

Never left the Galaxy Nexus. There is nothing on Verizon that makes me think twice. I have a nexus phone with 32gb of storage, 4G lte, a HD screen, and a great dev community. What's there not to like? No phone is a big enough jump that would make me want to leave.

Yup had a s3 on sprint and finally got kicked. Now on ST ATT with my gnex and love it

Not exactly jump back, but I just bought a GalNex even though I already own HOX. Love the deepblack screen and the simplicity front design of the phone. Also love the removable battery cover so I can switch out and put the 2000mah one.

i went to the rezound when I kept getting 4g issues with the nexus on verizon. Went back to nexus after they fixed the issue. Also got tired of the lack of updates from htc

I actually turned a blind eye on my GNex once google released the maps for iOS, and now I am on iPhone5 - no brainer it is a #1 app in the AppStore in less than 24 hours since release - but I am keeping my GNex if I need an android fix

I'm thinking of going in this position as well. I sold my Gnex and got a Nexus 4, and I bought an iPod touch 5 to keep up with iOS since I hadn't used it in a while. I'm really liking iOS again. I thought about selling my N4 and getting an iPhone 5, but its way too expensive (and I've purchased a lot of apps on Google Play). I'm probably gonna buy the next iPhone when it comes out and just keep my N4 as backup, and to have access to the apps that I purchased if I want to use them.

I switched to the iPhone and came right back. Screw iTunes, paying for music, hooking your phone to iTunes in order to DELETE PICTURES, tiny screen, you have to pay for everything, and their GPS application is a joke. Not to mention the development/root apps are the best things about Android.

Don't get me wrong I think jelly bean aesthetics are years ahead of the iOS.
I paid for quite a bit on the Play Store.
I use a lot of streaming services like spotify and pandora (have paid subscription to both).
On top, everything that I used on Android is here on iOS and some things are way more polished to be ignored - notably the google maps. Of course some things are just terrible like sharing.
Camera though kick the living **** out of GNex amateurish approach and a nice bonus.

Galaxy Nexus was the longest I ever had the same phone. Absolutely perfect even with verizon being retarded about updates. I would have kept it but it took a fall and the glass broke. Got a replacement screen which was a defect. Still waiting on another one but I picked up the note 2 to try and I fell in love with it. This phone killed my want for a tablet and it's absolutely perfect.

GN so good, should I sell my old phones?

I own a GN but also have a Nexus S and a mint HTC G1.
I don't use the NS nor the G1, they just stay in the wardrobe, but I've always wanted to have a "collection" of phones. Now I have three I'm now thinking of what use they are and the value won't increase so what's the point ...
The GN does everything I need from a phone.
Would you sell the NS and G1 or hold on to them? My only niggle at the moment is I want an android tablet and need some funds.
Thanks

You won't get much for a G1. Ironically, I still see people selling them for around $100 but I'd never buy one at that price. You can look to get $250-300 tops for your Nexus S. I wanted a phone collection too but decided that money over weighed having the collection. If you need cash and want a tablet, selling is probably your best bet. Just curious... what tablet were you wanting?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Well, I keep changing my mind. I wanted a Motorola Xoom but then the Asus T Prime came out so I wanted that. However, the prices are steep and I really don't know if its worth getting the latest android tablet (which is strange for me because I always have the latest phone). I just want something for movies and web browsing. I'm not really fussed about quad cores for gaming...BUT don't want to get a honeycomb tablet if its not getting ICS. I've seen the new Toshiba Excite etc but its a bit of a minefield...would welcome some suggestions but worried we are going off topic somewhat in a GN forum
Back to the phone collection - its looking like I might have to sell but the OCD part of my brain is saying have the collection. Its unfortunate I need the funds and having them tied up in something I'm not using seems silly if it means I go without something I want.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I usually sell for the quick cash. I keep my nexus one has backup and because its a colkectors phone. But sold my atrix.
Sell them while they're still worth something. I always keep one of the newest that I actually liked as a backup just in case. Gives you a bit more strength to mod when you have a backup plan.
If I were you I'd keep the G1 and sell the Nexus S. You should still get good money for the Nexus because of the recent Update to 4.0.3
I would keep one of them on hand as a backup. You might be in a position where your SGN dies, outside of the contract window, but you are waiting for something else to come out. Would be nice to have the option of going to a backup phone without having to pay for something to get you through to the next release.

I don't like the Xoom since it's screen is pretty washed out as opposed to the Transformer Prime. I like the look of the Toshiba Excite (and owned the Thrive) and expect Toshiba to do pretty well with updates. Hell, wait until the Asus Memo comes around and you'll have a quad core tablet for $249. I'm trying to hold out for it or I will jump on the Galaxy Tab 7.7

I usually sell/give away all my phones when I move on. Except for my G1. That is the grand daddy of all android phones and so i am keeping mine. I would suggest you do the same.
I owned both the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus at one point but had to let go of the Nexus S due to necessity. If I could, I'd collect all the Nexus line of smartphones.
I remember when I first held the Nexus S in my hand, the phone felt like a cute toy compared to my Galaxy Nexus, but i still miss The Little Train that Coukd.

OK after much deliberation I have decided to sell the NS and keep the G1.
The G1 is in pristine condition, like new, much better than my GNS so thought it best to keep the grandaddy!
The NS is on ebay and is ending tomorrow, currently at £97 with 36 watchers and 21 hours to go...
Now trying to decide on that tablet, I don't know what to get. I suppose its all about the look of the tablet and the internals because it WILL get rooted and run ICS so the OS is not important.
I would like to wait for the rumored Nexus tablet but we must be talking at least a Oct/Nov 12 release. I want one now!
wait for the transformer prime tf700t it's going to have 1920x1200 resolution and hopefully fix the wifi issue with the current prime. it's suppose to be release 2nd quarter so it should be soon.
That does look good!
I've decided to go for a Kindle Fire and root to put CM9 on. Use it for 6/7 months and hopefully by then the Nexus tab (or similar) will be announced. The Kindle hasn't cost me anything as the NS just sold for £185, which means I can save my money for later this year.
I can't warrant the price tags of quad core tablets at present.

[Q] Buy GN for graduation or wait for next Nexus?

I'm about to graduate and am tired of my LG Thrill. I definitely want a Nexus, but can't decide whether to get the Galaxy Nexus from the Play store for $400 or wait for the next Nexus to be announced. When do you think that will be? I love the GNexus, I just don't want to get buyer's remorse if the next one is announced soon.
The GNEX will be a great phone for a couple of more years. The next Nexus, though, most likely won't be released until the end of this year.

If you can wait another 5 months I would wait if I were you it really depends if you really need a phone right now I got mine cause it barely came out on sprint (2 weeks ago) but if you saved more money and get the next nexus it will be great too

Yeah I agree, Buy the Galaxy Nexus because it's always possible it will be last Nexus made (Highly unlikely) but still you never know & like the previous poster above said it will last quite awhile and even when the next Nexus comes out you can always sell this one to buy the next and on top of it you will be able to enjoy all the development for the GNexus since even when the next Nexus is released it will take a few months to get all the awesome roms like CM 10 or whatever it will be called.Honestly the Galaxy Nexus is by far my favorite out of all the devices I've owned & I've owned quite a bit including all three Nexus phones,All of the iPhones except the very first & tons of different Android phones,I think you'll be happy owning a GNexus
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
OP, I played this game at this exact time last year....and if I was on Verizon I would have only had a 6-7 month wait. Since I'm on Sprint that's a year wait.
If you want it get it now. There will always be a better phone on the horizon. My old Evo4G is still a hell of a decent phone and does 90% of what most people need perfectly well...and I've been through 6 new phones since then and what do I have to show for it? Marginally better battery life, a bigger screen and it still manages to do the same exact things.
My point? This phone will be highly functional for years and years to come--especially since it will get Google support for roughly 2 years and then the creative devs will cram Android releases into it that nobody thought would ever run on it. If you wait for the best phone ever to be released you will never end up with a new phone.
I'd say buy the Nexus now and sell it when the next Nexus drops and get that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You can't go wrong with a Galaxy Nexus. It's probably the most well-rounded phone you can buy at the moment: good specs, full U.S. warranty, more "open" than any other phone out there, and not too expensive.
I expect to keep mine for a quite a while

well, whats the disadvantage of owning all Nexus anyway. Get all the Nexus!! I only miss Nexus One for now, cuz I couldnt find it anywhere even the second one anymore.
Just sold my iphone 4s to buy this phone. Third party android phones were the reason I switched to apple....but that is not a worry with a nexus device, and ICS really took android to the next level.
Before ICS, IOS was arguably better. Now, in my opinion, it is not even close.
I can't say the same thing about tablets, but ICS is the mobile operating system to have on a phone.
Gnex is a great device, get it, enjoy it, love it.

Anyone here getting a Nexus 4?

$300 Unlocked
Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) S4 Pro
2GB RAM
Android 4.2
Software from Google.
hell, when my contract with T Mobile expire on Jan I'll just drop them and get this baby.
LG made, kinda not excited, but for $300 this thing sounds like a steal. But comparing this with $600 for SGS 3 or Note II, the choice if obvious.
Edit: The lack of microSD sucks. But I can live with it (probably)
Hmm, I was hoping for an HTC One X+, but this sounds more exciting.
I looked at this- I would rather have a microSD slot, otherwise, it looks like fun. For the price, it's a fair consideration for a Nexus device. In full disclosure, I did just buy a Relay 4G- it's still unopened in the box.
However, I am planning on getting a Nexus 10, even without the microSD.
I thinking about it. For the Specs and that price its hard to past.

you can have more than one battery.... if its stuck in the fone once its flat its useless
Another negative about a non removable battery is if something is hanging your phone you can't pull the battery. I kind of like the looks of the phone but no sd card slot? Kinda odd. Coming up on my upgrade in december and I may have to go into tmobile and play with one and see about getting it so long as the mod community is there. I have come to accept the fact that the G3 is not coming. If I have to go without a physical keyboard then getting a Nexus device is the next best thing. That said, I can get this off contract, and if Tmobile gets a high end phone with a physical keyboard in a year or so I can get back on contract to get it.

You never need to do a battery pull. Read up on how to hard shut off devices without removable batteries (like all tablets).
Every single device I've ever bought has been off contract and buying from Google is just like any other. My Nexus 7 is great, but while my Samsung Galaxy S III isn't Google, I run the exact same rom on it as I do on my n7. It was also quicker/easier to root and install a custom rom on my sgs3, plus it has 80gb internal storage (16gb+64gb, am using 42gb of that space as of this post) vs the extremely limited space on my n7.
There are more accessories for the sgs3 than the n7 and development wise roughly the same roms (maybe more if you count touchwiz).
Granted my sgs3 on Android 4.1.2 has a bug my nexus 7 doesn't have (which doesn't affect me), but still those possibilities are important to consider.
I guess my point is that passing on a non Google device for a nexus really isn't that obvious (to me anyway). I have more storage, faster network speeds, a removable battery (multiple ones even), and greater accessory selection. I use the same rom for both devices and both are unlocked and off contract. However, and this is a big deal for some people, I paid probably $200 more for my sgs3 than I would for the nexus 4.
Always consider the potential developer community but more importantly consider the manufacturer and the phone itself. Personally I've never had a good experience with LG hardware in the past, so if I were considering the n4 I would have to see tests and testimonials of people using it in real world situations, but there are some things that scare me just from what's been put out there already.
How fragile is that glass back? The one on the Optimus G broke within days on a reviewer who babied his device and had no idea how it happened.
Can the wireless charging work with a case? I know all phones with inductive charging currently can't..
Lastly, how bad on the battery is that new screen of theirs? The Optimus G (same screen) got a lot of criticism for its bad battery life and excessive screen drain. Without the ability to swap batteries I can see it being a deal breaker for some.
Those are just my personal thoughts and opinions based on the 5 android devices I've owned though. Time will ultimately tell.

Nexus 4 anyone?

Anyone considering selling their t989 and switching to the Nexus 4? With the N4 only $300, and our phones still going for $250-$300 on eBay, I see no reason not to.
I am, I don't like this phone. Not sure if I am taking that route though. I can't even get it to sell on Craigslist. Mines perfect condition, no scratches anywhere not even on the screen and kept in the D30 case. :/ oh well, any Nexus sure beats this phone.
I have mine listed on Ebay right now actually at 260 and it has a bid. Includes case and 8 gig card. I'll be happy to shell out roughly 100 extra for the 16GB nexus 4 after it sells. I didn't think to Sim unlock mine, but seems like the Sim unlocked ones are selling for a bit more if you're planning on listing it.

Funny you brought this up,
I used to own a HTC Sensation 4G. I got it for $180 and it was only 2 month old. I used it for 4 months and realized a few issues with it.
1. Sense sucks (I hate it and Sense on the Sensation is buggy)
2. Getting it S-OFF is difficult and I almost bricked it attempting so I never tried it again.
3. Charger is in a dumb place (on left side of phone)
4. HTC would not confirm a Jellybean update (made me feel like it wasn't getting it)
So I decided to part with it. I always wanted a Nexus for the stock Google experience. I wanted a LG Nexus 4 but didn;t want to wait nor pay $300+ for a phone with no expandable memory. But one day I was browsing craigslist hoping to find a used Galaxy Nexus ( Hard to find in my area ) and I found a guy selling a S2. He had it listed for $300 new in box. I thought to myself "That's not a bad deal since T-mobile wants $450 retail". So I set up a meeting with the guy. The phone was used but hardly. No scratches and all the wrapping on it minus the screen protector. It was a 9.9/10 only because it had been used. So I low balled the guy hardcore offering him $200 cash. HE TOOK IT! So now I own a Clean ESN, still under warranty, like brand new, Galaxy S2. I am glad I made this decision. And plus Samsung already confired it would get Jellybean. I am happy

I'm seriously thinking about the Nexus 4. I love the pure Android N7, which increases my temptation (makes me want an N10 too!). The lack of TMO wi-fi calling is a problem though, as I live behind a bit of granite, so my call reception sucks at home. I work from home and my mobile is my primary work phone. Gotta be able to make and receive calls.
I've just been looking at cell signal boosters and what S2s & MyTouch 4Gs are going for on eBay. Might pass the S2 to my daughter and sell her crappy MT4G. Then I'll probably switch to a TMO Value Plan and save some monthly $$. I think I'm going to try a cell booster this week. If that works, I'll probably go for the N4 one way or another.
I'm dumping this t989 asap. I can still sell it for 200-300 beans easy. The Nexus 4 is an upgrade in evey conceivable way. I sold my Nexus S 4g for this phone and I regret it. Can't wait to be aboard the Nexus train again. It's gonna be a great ride.

Well might as well put my two cents in on this. as i spent today thinking about selling my phone on ebay and buying it as well. But then i realized alot of things about the phone that i dislike that i never knew until i dug deeper. Just a few things, that helped me in my final decision to wait till official jelly bean for sgs2. It will improve our phone quite a bit i believe.
1. no wifi calling, other then some free app that gives you a different phone number... worthless in my eyes.
2. the battery isn't removable, so when the battery dies so does your phone.
3. the glass backing is extreme fragile one slight drop and its cracked, front is durable.
4. heard poor battery performance, i know this is still debatable (firmware, usage) but, with no option to switch it out... risky.
5. washy colors on the display, even tho the resolution is very great.
6. no sd card expansion, i mean who are you apple?

My Galaxy S II is up on eBay now as well. I loved the phone for the year I had it (longest I've ever kept any phone) and it's even more awesome now that I put CM10 on it, but I'm going Nexus only from now on. Can't beat that $350 price tag.

Yup same here.
I think everyone who goes from a Nexus device to one that's locked down with carrier bloat ends up regretting that decision.
It'll be amazing getting updates as soon as they're out again. Not to mention the crazy dev support it'll have. This phone will make a great paperweight/desk ornament or backup in case I break another phone, lol.

The lack of an SD slot isn't an issue for me. All my music is on GMusic, and I don't really store anything on my phone but ROMs and ROM related things... so 16GB will be plenty. What does everyone store on their phones that needs so much space anyway? Even if I wanted to store my entire music collection, that's 150GB+... cloud storage sort of gets rid of the need for that. With 16GB, you can even store a few seasons of TV shows... so again, what are you guys doing with your phones? Torrenting?
Already sold mine for 250 on craigslist.can't wait for the 13th. Tho im stuck using this mytouch till then

the N4 loos really nice. but I think since I will be sticking with t-mobile (especially since it was working fine during and after Sandy), I rather go with the Galaxy Note 2 as it will be good for at least 1 year and not to mention the software can be upgraded to use the tmobile LTE when it goes live.

I guess the price of the nexus justifies the lack of SD...but i store alot of music/work stuff on my phone. A nandroid backup is 2 gigs on its own.
I could probably get by on a nexus 4, my carrier(telus) is dead silent about it though, and theyre CDMA...so i dont even think I can buy one for telus from google.

So, what are you going to do when 4.4 and N5 are out?

Lets be honest guys, things don't look good on our side. We haven't heard a damn thing about a Gnex version of 4.4 and considering that Google already left us without Miracast, LE Bluetooth and left us on linux 3.0, 4.3 Jelly Bean may be our last update.
So, if google abandon us, are you guys staying on gnex or will you move on? Share your thoughts.
Since I'll be in the army next year I'm going to hold off buying the nexus 5 as I just won't have the time to enjoy it and get amongst all the development but once I'm all settled in and begin my studies towards the end of the year I may just wait for the next nexus its going to be hard but a wise decision I think I'll live hahahaha

I'm still going to have my Gnex. It still does what I need it to and it still is acceptably fast for my applications. I really do not want to switch to a device with a non-removable battery. My only gripe so far 2 years later is that the GPS works so much better on the later phones by comparison
I'll do my best to get Nexus 5 when it's out.
I'm on Verizon should pretty much explain it all. I'm stuck with 4.2.2 galaxy nexus

In all reality that really doesn't mean anything though... Who's honestly running stock anyways?

I buy nexus 5 and my gnex goes to my sister.
Just sit back and watch everything unfold. I got my GNex last year at around October(Bad timing I know) and I only started using it as my daily starting from August this year. I find the phone to be quite good as I was upgrading from a HTC G2. I'll gladly wait another year or so but I wouldn't mind getting a N4 just to add to the collection
If there was a 3000 mah battery similar in size to the oem one, I would keep g nexus for another year or two. This phone sucks because of battery. Period. All the rest is bearable.
Hopefully we will get 4.4 from Google, however i'm sure we will have some great custom 4.4 roms if not.
The Nexus 5 looks nice, however the only real reason to upgrade for me would be 4g, that will not be in my area for another year so i see little point in upgrading. I get 10mbps on 3g anyway so i cant honestly say i'm that bothered about 4g.
The Galaxy Nexus runs all the apps i need it to fine, sure better phones are out, however i see no point in upgrading for the sake of it. The Galaxy Nexus has another year in it yet easily.
Going to buy a Nexus 5 as soon as possible
(probably the day after tomorrow lol)
The GNex is fine for me usually. I just reeeally want a phone where the screen sensitivity doesn't ***t the bed on me all the time.
And the nail in the coffin (which isn't the GNex' fault) is the standard SIM slot. I'm getting a device with a micro sim and want a phone with one as well so I can swap between the two. So Nexus 5 it is, cause I'm not spending $600 on a phone right now.
I have a question , IF the n5 will be sold in the 1st november , it will go online on the playstore at 00:00 AM Worldwide based on american time? Because where i live i'm working at that time

I plan on jumping ship to Nexus 4 in Dec.

Gnex does have a micro Sim slot... Maybe the international doesn't but worst case use an adapter and you should be good to go.

No idea the Verizon version had a mircrosim. The GSM one has a standard size slot.
Although I didn't know there were adapters available. I"ll ask my carrier when I get my watch. I'll still probably get a Nexus 5, just not quite so quickly.

I don't think your carrier will have it. I got one off amazon. Used it while back to switch between this and my rezound.
