Hi! My girlfriend's galaxy w is stuck at the Samsung logo for some reason. It's completely stock. Unrooted and stock rom. I'd like to find a way to restore it WITHOUT wiping the whole phone? If i'm not mistaken I can reflash a stock firmware with ODIN but it'll wipe my data am I right? I'm sorry but this is my first non-nexus samsung so I'm not very familiar with ODIN.
Any help is very much appreciated ! Thank you!

Wiping the data means only the apps data, not the sdcard's data like music, pics. You will lose all your apps' data like levels and stuff.

first question first : what happened just before it got stuck? Did you/her tried to update the firmware using KIES?

No. I did not attempt any sort of modification on her phone. Neither did she.

... then the problem is hardware-based. Rather than trying to fix things on your own, you really should bring your phone to the SSC.

Yeah I was trying to avoid that. So if the phone bricks without me doing any customization to it, most likely its hardware issues?

Yes. An unrooted phone is practically uncorruptible since the 'dangerous' parts of the storage is protected; only root-level apps can have access to those protected areas.
Since the phone is unrooted, it follows that *no app* can acquire the necessary root privileges to muck up those 'dangerous' parts.

If you want to use the 4.0.4 Gapps (which work 100% and include the new Camera and Browser) you will need to do a data wipe.
Here are the 4.0.4 Gapps.. These Gapps should work with any 4.0.3 ROM.. Although if you are installing them for the first time you will need to do a data wipe.. So while your at it and wiping data why not go ahead and try out the new GummyNex;-)
Enjoy

I'm just wondering if there is a dual boot kernel or will be for our Galaxy W ,, As it have 1 GB ROM !!
So I think that it can have more than 1 OS..

I think it's not possible because of its hardware limitations. Galaxy W is mid-tier that is capable of handling just one Android OS. Even though it forced to be dual OS, hard bricks are surely at highest chance, therefore it's too risky.

What's needed is not a dual-boot kernel, but a dual-boot bootloader.
And writing such bootloader is *very* high risk. A slight mistake, and it's a hard-brick.

It *has* a bootloader. That is the piece of code that determines whether to load the ROM or the Recovery or the Download Mode.
If it doesn't have a bootloader, it won't be able to dynamically determine, based on the keys you're holding down during boot, which of the three it should be loading.

Hello, I am running on CM 10.1 R4 on my i747.
Before I tried installing a kernel for the international version on my i747 and it hard bricked. I got it fixed by JTAG repair.
Now I have installed CM 10.1 R4 like I mentioned before and want to install this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Are there any variables that can go wrong? i don't want to spend another 40$.

Hey everyone, I'm a noob in the world of android devices and rooting phones. So basically, my sisters galaxy gio s5660M is running out of internal memory and most apps cannot be moved to the external SD. This is the reason I wish to root, in order to save apps on the SD. The phone is running 2.3.4 Gingerbread. I've seen a few tutorials about rooting this phone, but all of them weren't specific to the firmware that this phone has and were pretty sketchy. How do I go about rooting this phone, without bricking it or wiping out any data? Thank you so much, all help appreciated :laugh::laugh:
