I'm wondering how to fix my SPH-D710 samsung galaxy II epic 4G. i've been asking my friend forever for his phone since it got deactivated, and today at lunch he dropped it and said, "Fine take it!" because the screen didn't show up anymore. you can feel a vibration when the phone boots and the little blue light lights up when you turn it on, including the red light when charging. i did some research and saw it may be an internal error, so i took the phone apart, unplugged all of the ribbons, and plugged them all in again, no harm done. but to no avail, as nothing showed up as i tried booting it again. If anyone could tell me a way to fix it without going and taking it to a repair shop that would be great.. also the stock rom for this phone would be nice too. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THE SCREEN FIRST. if you want pictures of the internals of the phone, just ask.

My evo's screen started flickering earlier and then went completely off. I pulled the battery and the phone comes on, button lights work, i hear sound, i get calls but the screen wont turn on at all. Is there any way to fix this i am not under sprint TEP warranty and would really like to solve this issue asap.
i flashed cm7 7.0.2 this morning if that information helps. anyone?? PLEASE?!!!
Try taking out the battery, putting it back in and hold Volume down and power, see if it boots into recovery.
Nope. wont even boot into recovery. screen is completely unresponsive. any other suggestions?? i just called sprint and placed TEP on my account. when can i take it in since it was just placed on my account today??
You can take it in now, shouldn't matter. The only requirement they have is you be in the first 30 days of the device. I have even seen people in sprint stores suggest adding it right there to get a new phone and then telling the customer to call later and have it removed.

i actually got it to reboot in rcovery. (screen didnt turn on but i can read out the menus under a very bright light) i wiped EVERYTHING except the sdcard and now the phone wont turn on at all. the charging light wont even come on when connected to the charger. does this have to do me wiping the battery stats??
wow. threads like this annoy me. ROOTING YOUR PHONE HAS NOTHING to do with a hardware failure. if the phone is less than 1 year old. then it is covered under the warranty. you do NOT HAVE to pay a damn dime. don't let them tell you that. contact HTC directly and inform them that your backlight on the evo has failed. Let them know even when you restart it, the screen doesn't light up how it should. If they can't see the screen to see root, then all good. lol. but the fact is that root can't cause that issue. HOWEVER, SADLY. you won't have root again until they release the unlocked bootloader. sorry!
Btw, why the hell would you wipe the phone? WHY WOULD you wipe everything? lol. wow. take the battery out and charge it in a third party charging unit out of the phone. What is with people and wiping the battery stats? does ANYONE EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!?
Wipe ONLY IF you are sending it back to HTC so people don't get your personal information. and take the SDCard out and back it up and format it and put it back into the phone.
Bro chill the **** out will ya??? thanks for the 1st paragraph but **** u for the second. Comments like yours annoy the **** out of me, helpful with a bit of prick on the side. Anyway it was a defective battery causing the issue. I went to sprint ( almost got hustled by the technician who claimed my motherboard was damaged) purchased a new battery and voila!
Okay so I will let you know the history of my phone before i start.
No water or falling dmg at all, I Have taken care of this thing like it was my baby.
I rooted the phone and put starburst ROM on my phone it ran good for a little while
but then decided to go to blazer rom. That rom was great and everything and ran amazing for months then 2 days ago I woke up to my phone with a purple tinted screen, frozen and pretty warm. So i took the battery out and it seemed to restart okay. (I charge it every night so it was charging when this happen)
The rest of the day I started having issues like battery drain, Screen not turning on unless i took battery out, heat, account Unsyncing, calls auto going to speaker, Message LED light not turning off, and more!
So I decided to go to Calkulin's E4GT to see if that would fix my issue. Its amazing rom and things seem to be working okay. But still having a issue with my phone heating up and the screen not turning on also the message red LED light would not go away....
I called sprint and was told to take it to a repair shop or i could get it replaced for $100 (which i am not doing) Will the repair shop be able to fix this? Do i need to put official back on my phone before i take it in? anything would help at this point (sorry ahead of time for spelling and size of this post)

I'd say use odin to bring it back to stock unrooted. If you are still having problems with it, then it's probably a hardware issue and will likely persist. However, my experience with people at sprint who are smart and actually know what they are doing either don't mind if you have it rooted or have rooted phones themselves. They have a machine that they plug it into and if it is rooted, it won't damage your phone, but it will give a whole lot of weird errors. Good luck!
Super Fast reply! thank you! I am so sad because Calkulin's E4GT is such an amazing ROM! I hate to lose it. Would they be able to replace the motherboard at the repair shop? because it seems like the device is overheating alot. No processing are running but mainly when its plugged in.
Definitely just take it in and see what they say .. if they find a problem Sprint repair center will fix/ replace it for you.
Well I took it to the sprint repair center today and the guy told me that it's due to my my hot spot service that i am suppose to be paying for.
I told him i don't even use that feature it just came with the ROM but he said he was sure this is what was causing the issue.
He said he could do a hard reset on my phone but other then that i am out of luck
That sounds like bull. Go back to completely stock and see if the problem persists. Of it does, take it back to Sprint, but try a different store.

Yeah, I gotta agree, if that was in fact the problem here, I doubt your phone would be the only one doing this stuff. Shoot, I actually use hot spot app and mine has never acted like that.
Yeah think the company told him to blame stuff on that because they are not getting my $30 a month for the hot spot feature. So far phone hasn't really been acting up just the red LED been staying on 24/7 but i went in to setting and disabled it.
Sorry for double posting just wanted to give you guys a update
Saturday my phone did the thing where the screen would not turn on.
I drove right to my sprint repair shop and sat down with a over weight female tech.
This was our convo
me: "Hi, My phone's screen is not turning on and the phone has been acting really weird when the screen is on.The last tech said
this was because it was rooted and the wifi hot spot THAT I DON'T USE made the battery over heat but the heat is clearly
coming from the top right as you can feel"
tech: "WEELLLL did you know i could refuse to look at the phone if its rooted according to our policy?"
me: "Well what time do you close, because I will unroot it and put stock back on it and bring it back within the hour"
tech: "please sign these papers to get a replacement......"
I left feeling really annoyed. It's nice having empty threats throw at you by ass hole techs who think they are the ****.
I do not want anything for nothing i pay for my service and use root for titanium backup. Blah well glad to get my replacement either way.
UPDATE: Screen is back on, but no touch sensitivity. Probably hit a brick wall on this one.
Hello all... so I think I may have bitten off more than I could chew Someone stopped on my phone and cracked the screen. After doing some research online, I found the Universal Repairs site, and bought a replacement screen and the necessary tools. The instructions didn't look too bad. Got the package, opened it up and proceeded to do every step in the guide as cautiously and carefully as possible. Thought I was doing pretty well too, until I had the whole phone put back together and tired to fire it up...
I popped in the battery, held down power, and felt the small rumble. That was good, but all the phone proceeded to give me was a blank screen, and after about 30 seconds, the LED turns purple briefly and shuts off. Plugging the phone in doesn't yield any LED color at all. I am able to get a blue light when entering fastboot mode, so that's something... I am unlocked, and was running a fairly recent version of FXP/CM 9.1. Right now I am downloading the latest CM 9.1, and will attempt to flash the kernel to see if that breathes any life back into the phone, but I'm a little pessimistic at this point.
I searched the forums for any approximation of this particular issue, but came up empty handed. Does anyone know if there's any hope for recovery in this situation? What does the purple LED indicate in this case? If flashing the kernel doesn't help, what other options do I have? Is it possible to try and find a service center and have the phone repaired/replaced at this point? Thanks very much in advance for any helpful responses.
It looks like I'm going from bad to worse. I tried using the Sony PC Companion program. It seemed to recognize the phone at first, but now it won't go into fastboot mode or flash mode at all. No more purple LED, all I get now is blinking red. I've never been very good at quitting when I'm behind.
EDIT: Nevermind, that all appeared to be just a symptom of a low battery. After charging it up for a little while, I'm back to the purple LED, and being able to go to flash mode or fastboot mode. However, flashing a FXP ftf did not do me any good, so I'm back to square one. If flashing the kernel didn't do any good, I doubt using fastboot to flash the ROM again would make any difference. Please help if you can, thanks.
I ordered a screen from them. Install was really easy but there was no touch sensitivity. I've been arguing with the company for over a week about it. And there 800 number didn't work.
You may want to take it apart again and check your connections, mainly the ribbon cables.

Hi slayer. I thought there was no way that would do any good, with the amount of dismantling and reassembling I did throughout the night, but I gave it one more shot, and lo and behold, the screen fired up. Reflashed to the latest FXP and I'm up and running...
...but I'm in the same boat as you. No touch sensitivity. And looking around, it seems like that's a common problem with repairs universe screens. I made double sure that the ribbon going from the phone to the digitizer was in there as snug as possible. Seems like a defective chip on the daughter board, although I have no way of knowing, that's just my guess. Sucks cuz now I have my phone back, but I can't make or answer any calls...
Anyone got any bright ideas for this?
Well I finally got them to send me another replacement, same thing. I think I'm just going to have to order one from someone else. I was thinking I might have messed up the ribbon cable but after reading that I'm having my doubts. I have a funny feeling they are sending pieces of glass calling them digitizers.

Ordered another digitizer from a different vendor. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok so i pulled my phone out of my pocket and noticed the screen stuck on lockscreen, couldn't do anything so I turned it off, note : I did nothing out of the ordinary to the phone, it's been running fine on CM9 for months now and all of a sudden after rebooting..the light stays on and i get nothing. Tried everything I can think of and really don't have money for a new one at the moment. I'm wondering what happened and thought someone hear might have a little more knowledge as to what happened. Any replies would help...thanks.
Edit: After looking around it seems to have the blue light of death brick-ish w/e..I just don't understand how it would do it out of nowhere without even flashing/downloading/just sitting in my pocket? wtf...oh well..i'll probably just goto the sprint store and bs them to getting another..weird..
Hold down power and volume down for a while to see if it will boot into download/odin mode.

If you can check the battery before all else. Do a spin test, try replacing (or have the store swap out for testing) and see if this gets you back to life.
Next option - USB Jig or try holding the buttons long enough to see if Odin or Recovery responds.
Don't think this is the eMMC bug so JTAG may also be a way to rescue it if needed.
i dropped my phone last night during heavy rain and forgot about him for about 30-45 mins when i went back out and got it the battery was out. i turned him on and he booted up to the lock screen but then i couldnt unlock it so i turned it off and put it in rice for about 12 hours and i turned it on and it got stuck at the lock screen again. Then it wouldnt boot up past the kernel splash at all nor go into recovery. i got it in download mode and odined to stock but still no go. It seems to be going very very very slow because i just randomlly found it in recovery and the volume controls were very slow and the home button wouldnt do anything. can someone help me? any advice anything to try out? its like its water damaged and bricked.
Edit: i got it to boot but it is the slowest thing ive ever seen. any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a water logged defective unit on your hands. Aside from dismantling the thing and drying out the insides, you probably have a paper weight on your hands.
Sorry man.

So I ordered a replacment and the guy emphasized on the "as long as its not water damaged" part so does anyone know if theres like a water damage indicator inside the phone that may have changed or show that some water may have gotten in the phone?

Majority of phones have a water saturation indicator on in the inside. However, I couldn't tell you where that is located in our's. You could search a bit on the internet, I'm sure you could find a tear down video or something.

I did a little search and apparently the only indicator is on the battery so I should have no problems. The phone does turn on it just takes about an hour to get passed the Samsung screen so hopefully they wont look too deep for any water problems.
Okay, so after letting my phone sit with no battery for like 5 hours i tried to turn it on and it worked 100%. It was back on stock since i odin'd stock FC09 on it. Then I flashed cwm and restored my backup and i ended up with the same touch screen problems. So now I'm back at the point where i just odin'd stock on my phone and it still won't boot passed the samsung screen. I'm going to take out the battery and let it sit. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Could this one time working event be just a random thing or is it from leaving the phone alone for the few hours I did? Any suggestions or thoughts?

The touch screen problems sound like it's hardware related. As for it not booting passed the sammy screen idk.
