Which SIM did you get t-mobile or at&t?

If you got a T-Mobile Sim, you're not only gonna get 2G I think which would explain the slow speeds.

Its probably your apn settings. Make sure proxy and port are blank. ST's recommended apn settings will limit your data speed. BTW make sure you still have recommended setting for MMS proxy and MMS port.

I put my wifes ST sim in and i got 6mb transfer rate, so im calling ST. I def have not used a lot of bandwidth so i dont think im being throttled.
UPDATE: I called straight talk. They reset my internet settings on the account. They called it a 'congestion'. Either that or they were randomly throttling people to see if they notice. Anyway she did that then I rebooted my phone and get a solid 6mbps download connection and about 1 up. So that seems to have fixed the problem! They were pretty easy to deal with.
Glad to hear you got that figured out

I told them I did a hard reset and download my apps and still getting 5 to 20 now

I have suddenly been having problems with my 3g. I look at the symbol in the status bar and it will upload but it will not download. It's almost like the code is stuck in a loop. It will randomly start to work again for awhile and then act up later. I have wiped dalvik, cache, and I even reflashed my ROM (FREE GS3). I updated profile and PRL. That was even a problem because I would get an error since it wouldn't download. Before I flash back to stock and call sprint, does anybody have any ideas? One other note. I have driven through LTE areas and both downloads and uploads work with no problem.

Before reflashing call Sprint and see if they are doing tower improvements, this can cause that when they are working in things
I'm going to flash stock and unroot to see if that helps. I work 75 miles from my house and have experienced the problem at homd and at work so I'm pretty sure it's not a tower issue.

Try updating PRL and Profile then restart the phone? That may help, I mean if it does then you just saved like an hour of resetting and restoring. If it doesn't then you just wasted maybe 2 minutes.

I've tried this with the exception of rebooting my phone right afterwards. I just updated my PRL but I could not update my profile. I got an error. I'm running out of options
I appreciate everybody's help though.

Sprint GS3 FAQ THREAD
Happens to me when I shut off data for any length of time....I just reboot...and it works fine
I called Sprint and they couldn't fix it. I switched the network mode to CDMA from CDMA/LTE and it worked flawlessly. I don't know what that means but something told me my LTE and 3G weren't playing nicely. Whenever I go through a 4G area, it works to perfection. Then I get back in a 3G area and back to the same old thing.
I forgot to mention I flashed to stock unrooted and it seemed to function better but the problem still existed.

I have the same problem I have no idea what to do. I have a custom ROM the only way I get it to work is when I toggle Data on and off really fast. I didn't try the CDMA only though. Either way it's no excuse why our phone's are acting like this.
There was a DATA_HANDOFF.ZIP floating around somewhere....it was made for AOSP but if you make a backup and flash it, it might do some good
I had the same problem. In your phone key pad enter ##72786#. Its going to do hands free activation, prl update, profile update, firmware update (at that point you can cancel)

Have you tried to make the speed test at night?
Maybe the cell you are connected to just had a peak load (is this a valid term?) while you tested the speed?
I tested it last night and this morning when i woke up and it was still the same!!
I aint got a clue whats going on?
Could it be the phone? The old micro sim? I really have no idea

I would say it's most probably the 3 network being temperamental. You can try and different sim from 3 jic.

What about your friends who are on the same network ?
I have huge variations in download speed depending on time, location, accessed sites, etc... For example my provider (Free Mobile) have very poor connections to google servers, simply working around it using a VPN results in a tenfold speed improvment. Of course, all this is considered "normal".
Just to say that whatever they say it is more likely to be a network problem than a phone problem.
There is also this thing called fast dormancy that is enabled by default on the Note 2 (don't know about the iPhone). This is not a good thing if your network doesn't support it but while it may have an effect on battery life, I am not sure about data transfer speed.
None of my friends are on same network, i changed my sim but still same thing so i phoned technical support and they asked me to put sim back in iphone 4 and check with speed test so i did and i got 1.9 mbs so on my note 2 im getting like 1.5 mbs and iphone 4 im gettin 1.9 mbs?? Does that sound like a network problem or handset problem?? Also i done speed test outside my sons school and still got like 1.8 mbs on my note 2!!
I mean i hope its not a handset problem cos ive just set it all up and its a hassle to have to wait in for another delivery.

The iPhone could have a slightly stronger 3g chip for reception. I don't think think it's a fault with the note 2.

Are you using exactly the same speed test apps on both devices? Are they both connecting to the same server to run the tests? If the answer to either of those questions are no, then the differences are almost certainly just down to server/app differences. Hell, even if you're using the same app and server across the 2 platforms, that's no guarantee. Also, it's not impossible that the 2 devices are using different cells, which would also have an affect.
0.4mbs difference between the two is pretty negligible, really.

im 4.1.1 because i seem to have battery drain on 4.1.2, and not three branded, im BTU (unbranded) samfirmware has them
dazza, don't overlook the floatingfatman's post. Although 0.4mb is more than a 25% drop, in real terms it's tiny. A number of factors could cause this.
Ultimately if you are in the area in which you're predominantly intending to use data <3mb speeds from both devices are poor. You should consider switching providers, even if you just signed up to a new contract you might still be in the grace period. If I were you I will try all the different providers (they all provide free Sims - or ask your friends) until you find the one with the best speeds.

I've tested all UK networks and Three is fastes and best for heavy internet users... Unlimited data and awesome speeds...
I've never seen such a slow speeds on it... There must be something wrong with your settings or phone have faulty radio...
I'm on Three as well and getting speeds 10-25Mbps all the time
Have you tried putting your phone to 3g only mode? wcdma only
The technical team phoned me back after lookin into it and they told me that the mast near me is very congested and that its due an upgrade on the 14th april and that the upgrade will really increase the speeds, i dont know how true that is but ill take his word for it, but in the mean time im gonna flash 4.1.1 btu firmware with odin and see if that helps.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Yes the way mobiles work, if there is a backhaul problem from the mast, you'll get slow speeds. There are so many factors at play when it comes to data speeds. Fiddle with firmware all you want, but it won't make any difference.
Have you tried turning it on and off? /troll
In certain areas my h+ speed is very poor, but in the city its extremely fast, it depends on your location, provider and apn settings

So i tried reverting back to 4.1.1 unbranded stock and that didnt make any difference at all, so i just went back to my branded 3 uk rom!! I live in battersea which is quite close to the middle of london so i wouldve thought that the data wouldve been quite good.
It made me laugh though cos the technical guy who phoned me was trying to explain that 2mbs was good in terms of data speeds!! So i suppose that ill just have to wait for the mast to be upgraded and see if that helps, theres not really much else i can do!!

Im a little confused and im wondering if someone can help me out or if someone is going through the same thing i am.... :crying::crying::crying:
So i just got a Galaxy Note 2 from my fathers friend at work and i am wondering is this considered when they say being a blocked IMEI cause its a little confusing...
So I have T-Mobile and i received the Note 2 it is not rooted or anything and the IMEI matches the same in the "About Device" and in the back behind the battery so anyways i go and pop my micro sim card in and notice right away it gets no service it just has a circle with a horizontal line accross like seen on the pics and the lock screen just says "Searching".. i go into mobile networks and try to manually select the T-mobile network and it just gets stuck on "Registering to T-Mobile" then i get an error in my notifications that says "No Service Selected Network (T-Mobile) not available" so right away im assuming that the IMEI must be bad so i call T-Mobile give them the IMEI and they tell me its NOT blocked so now it gets confusing.
while i was still messing with it i decided to turn ON wi-fi and all of a sudden the wi-fi calling feature turns on and viola! the circle with the horizontal line changes to empty service bars and in the notifications dropdown it now says T-Mobile so i go on and make a call IT WORKS! send a text IT WORKS receive calls and texts ALSO WORK! now isnt that wierd?
what do you guys think might be wrong with the phone is the IMEI really blocked but if it is will i be able to make calls and send and receive texts i dont understand please some one help me any advice will be appreciated.. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks (here are pics of screen shots)

Generally, when your IMEI is blocked, you'll have bars and even data. Your phone just won't work. So I doubt it's that. The fact that WiFi calling works tells me that the SIM reader works. Do you know if the phone was taken apart? Maybe the antenna is messed up. Id just try going somewhere else to use your phone and try.
Possibly root and flash different modem?

I don't think there actually is a void sticker.. When I opened mine up, I didn't find one . I could have just over looked it possibly. Just try flashing JediM14. Comes with everything you need much better than stock. I'm thinking maybe tmobile is working on your area so you have intermittent service. Could be anything. I'll try to help you look into it. As long as you're stock and unrooted, you might be able to get a warranty replacement. I know you're not the original owner but it really depends on the rep that you get on the phone. If you get the right rep they'll warranty it based on the fact that no matter who originally purchased the phone, there's no way it could be more than a year old. Or, if you have the premium handset protection, you should be able to get it covered under the extended warranty that it offers.

Call Tmobile and tell them your situation. They'll reset your connection to the towers and it might help. They've done that for me. Just ask for like a connection reset. Even better if you just told them what's happening.

Could be this. I bought a replacement loudspeaker that was apparently for the T889 (which it wasn't)..[Most loudspeaker modules that say they are for the T889 are missing the third contact.] It was a missing a antenna contact which totally killed my reception. Try to take it apart and look at the loudspeaker. There should be three white tab looking things on the module itself. If there's only two, then that's most likely the problem.
Hello folks,
I seem to be having some strange issues with mobile internet on O2.
I have been with them since October 2012 when I got the GN2 and everything has been fine up until 1 maybe 2 months ago when I noticed by phone was connecting to H+, which I had never seen with O2 in my city before. Normally it would always be on H, or occasionally 3G... both of which would work no problems. Now, I know what the different connection types are, but the problem is that now whenever it’s on H+ mobile connection around 80% of the time it’s either super slow, or simply doesn’t let me load any web pages or refresh any apps that require data connection. I often have to search for the network again just to get it to work. When it is still on H or 3G everything is fine... it’s just H+ that seems to be causing problems.
Also, around two or three days ago I also started having problems sending and receiving texts.
I’m on Wanam v2.9 with old DLK7 modem, however I was using this long before the problem first started so I don’t think it’s the cause. APN settings are same as always and I took the SIM card out, cleaned it and made sure it was in properly but all to no avail.
I will try calling O2 later, but their customer service is notoriously crap so I thought I’d ask here first.
Cheers,
Lee
