You can skip the fastboot steps. You're the lucky one who doesn't have to flash boot via fastboot.

Yes you can just flash roms from recovery, no need to go into fastboot to flash boot.img
Wanna trade One X's ?

any sticky regarding that thread .. noob here .. and MY BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED ! JUST TO KEEP IN MIND

Downgrading from 3.14.401.600

Hello,
My HOX was stock (latest firmware) and then i saw Jelly Bean firmware collection for different Carriers ID (CID). So i tried to flash it, and booted it, bootloop in logcat. So then i decided to flash a RUU, but my version-main is now 3.14.401.600, now i have unlocked the bootloader to be able to flash a custom rom, but i would like to go back to stock, does anybody know how to do that?
My CID is: HTC__E11

why did you do something like this!? couldn't you just stay on stock?
Because i was not able to boot, so i flashed a custom rom.. but now i would like to go back to stock
As long as you don't have a S-OFF device, you won't be able to downgrade in any way!

[Q] Rooting questions

Hey guys
I just got an HTC one x on 4.0.3. I unlocked it via htcdev and installed cwm.
I was planning on installing either AOSP or CM10.1 but then i realized my hboot is too low.
UNLOCKED
HBOOT - 0.96
CID - 1111111111
S-OFF
Now I know there are a couple of ways to upgrade the hboot but all of them require a particular CID.
Now since mine is SuperCID.. i'm not really sure where that leaves me.
In short, what do i need to do in order to get to 4.2.2
I "think" the superCID allows me to install basically any firmware i want - any region etc.
So I assume i need to first relock - then use an RUU (or just firmware) that gives me a higher hboot and then proceed with the rooting?
Correct !

Why you are asking for S-OFF guide if you are already S-OFFed ??
S-OFF for One X is not available yet so there isn't any guide for it. And if you have an S-OFF device, you probably are among those lucky people who've got a factory S-OFF phone.

That means including of unlocking the bootloader
The Installation for s-on and s-off is the same?
I thought S-OFF don't need to flash the boot.img
So S-OFF devices only need an unlock, custom recovery.
They only need to flash the ROM but S-ON need to flash boot.img separate .
Isn't it right?
Thanks for your help

Its exactly the same as hofs said. Most Rom zips don't attempt to flash the boot.img in the installer script even though it would work with an s off phone.
Best off flashing the boot.img with fastboot if you don't know.
Restoring a nandroid will flash a boot though which is handy.
I put this together sometime ago which may be usefull to you.

Just lock up in HBOOT if your device is already unlocked...
If not then unlock your bootloader.

CID you can find using THIS (or just by booting the phone into HBOOT)
To root the phone, you just need to follow one of the many guides online
S-OFF you'll need Sunshine
Then follow my guide and you're good to go!

I performed the following steps, so maybe it helps a little:
1) Searched and downloaded stock firmware, hboot and recovery
2) Unlock Bootloader via htcdev
3) Install custom recovery (I used TWRP)
4) flashed root via recovery (e.g. Chainfire SuperSU)
5) performed sunshine s-off
6) flashed HTC stock firmware
7) flashed HTC stock boot
8) changed CID via adb/fastboot
9) flashed stock HTC recovery
Here you go you are debranded.
Pay attention when downloading stock firmware, recovery and hboot, als they should all have the same version number (e.g. 1.54.401.10).

post the fastboot getvar all of both phones please without imei and serial number please.
Do not use toolkits, more trouble than their worth.
to root, flash TWRP 2.8.6.0 recovery, get it from here: http://dl.twrp.me/m8/
then flash superSU 2.46.zip from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
when phone reboots to android, complete root setup by opening SuperSU app and update the binary if required.

do a fastboot getvar all, it will tell you what your current model ID and cid is.
to change cid the command is fastboot oem writecid (whatever you need it to be, alway 8 characters long and capitals) requiresd cid is in the GPe conversion thread
to change mid follow this guide, required mid is in the GPe conversion thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581
then just follow the GPe conversion thread I linked earlier
