Hi Guys,
I'm planning to buy either the Xperia ION or the Xperia S. I was really looking forward to buy the S but now i'm getting the ION for a price very similar to the S so I'm able to afford it (I'm getting the ION by paying Rs1500 ~ 30$ more) . So these are the main aspects I'm considering between them:
- Better Screen
- Better Performance
- Less known Bugs/Issues
- Customization (flashing roms , hack support etc. )
and that's pretty much it. i like the fact that ION has a bigger screen and SD card support but i dunno why I'm not able to really say 'NO' to the xperia S. Please help me decide.
Thanks,
Rishi
What I learned between ion and S/SL,
Bigger screen = ion
Performance= same if with S, SL @1.7ghz
Customization= S/SL more development than ion on xda
Less bugs= I have an SL and I dont experience any bug like bravia engine, yellow tint ( already fixed on SL) , unable to unlock Bootloader
For ion, my friend has it, he is having problem with bravia engine not able to work after he unlocked bootloader, also very few custom roms, he said he should have chosen the xperia s/sl, and some ions were unable to unlock the BL.
Sent from my LT26ii using xda app-developers app
If you unlock your bootloader, Bravia Engine might not work. Xperia ion will work with Bravia Engine unless you unlock the bootloader.
That's right, guess Im lucky on my SL, B.E. Is still working even my bootloader is unlocked.

The bootloader issue is there with the updated ICS rom ? I can somehow control myself to hold of unlocking the bootloader if the stock ICS is good enuf on the ION. I also forgot to ask which phone has the better Battery Life?
Its on your own whether you like it or not to unlock. Ion has a bigger batt capacity, 1900 against 1750mah, a few difference. It still depends on how you use the phone.

Yeah the Xperia ION screen is the only thing making me choose that over an S. So ION is the one to go for then ?

All depends. If you are big into using custom rooms and kernels the ion doesn't have the amount of dev support as the s. They both are great devices though.

I've been through the same thing a month ago, choosing between ion and s. I chose ion because of its gorgeous-ness and screen size and quality. Xperia ion has a unique screen. The contrast is so great.
About less devs available for ion, don't worry. You have got many mods for this device. The international version of ion is released at a later date than of S and so less people own an ion.
Go for Xperia Ion... You'll love it, like I do!

I'm using the Xperia SL and it really is a beauty esp in white. Its size is just perfect for my hands and is pocket-able and I think any bigger than this size would need both my hands to just use a phone and wouldn't fit my pocket anymore.
I use my SL to actually watch The Walking Dead when I'm on the road ^_^ Its screen is just amaziiing.
The ION which I do not own has an SD slot so if you're into saving a lot of media stuff then go for it. I usually delete episodes I've watched even though they're only like consuming 1 GB AHAHAHA *Panic Mode.
The ION has a bigger battery BUT also a bigger screen so its kind of isn't an advantage over the SL.
The SL has an eyelet :> I think bec. its also marketed for Japan as the NX while the ION does not have as it was for the US.
+1 for the walking dead on SL! I do watch on my SL too, and stored 3 seasons on my phone ,

I get a problem with my WCDMA system, if i set WCDMA for my ion operating the battery' ll collapse automaticly even the screen off. But with GSM it's ok. what should i do?

Yeah your right , not gonna expect increased battery life just coz of the bigger bateery , however the phones are pretty similar in size with S at 128x64x10.6mm and ION at 133x68x10.8mm and both weigh in at 144g.
Compared to the galaxy S3 the S is just a slightly smaller and the ION is at par so i don't think fitting it on the pocket or using 1 hand should be an issue
Thanks for all the help , just a few days back Xperia T and TX were made available on the Indian ebay site. Will 99% go for one of these phones :highfive:
Which phone should I buy : Xperia S or Xperia SL?
Obvious the Xperia SL is better with the faster CPU :silly::silly:
But I can see that there is not many ROMs for this phone
I'm wondering if I could install Xperia S ROMs and Xperia S kernels (custom) on Xperia SL :laugh:

Reading about them, you wont see a lot of diferences between them... Only you can see that SL have 0.2MHz of proccesor.. (it could mean that SL drains battery quickly, obviusly a bit quickly). All other things are similar, and you could lose buying the SL beacuse, like you said, SL lack the same comunity development.
If you find out, that you could install Xperia S roms in an SL phone... Go to SL jajaja
Actually thats 400mhz Difference, 200mhz per core right, and XSL have Bluetooth 3.0, and XS have 2.1
And I read that newer XS which does not have any Yellow Tint, Quick Charge has been removed?(hardware related?), atleast on my XSL i can confirm that it is working if you have EP850/850
And according to reviews, like GSMArena, Photo's and Video is slightly better on XSL(software related?)
Now I'm just wondering if I could install all the wonderful ROM in Xperia S Development box for my SL ??

Bluetooth 3.0?? I'll see again and in a few post says 2.1 :S where have you seen it? http://www.smart-gsm.com/moviles/sony-xperia-sl
400MHz with the same battery (1750mAh) is equal to say that drains quickly... i dont know it but i think it.
See this page http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4894&idPhone2=4369 and try to read or watch comparatives in web!

Well, I still say 'duck' those 200 MHz and bluetooth!
If you're asking for XDA purposes; get the S
If you're a douchebag that only gets a phone to brag in front of friends; get the SL (I'm not judging anyone, but the only people I know that have the SL are douchebags (no offence to the cool guys at XDA that have the SL)).
If I were you, I will go for S. I dont care about rom development but custom kernel are very important for me. If XS kernel can be use on XSL, then I will say XSL.
But I'm now stuck weather to pick between Xperia S and Xperia P.
Xperia S got HD screen, better battery capacity and processer. But the capacitive button really annoying me.
In other hand Xperia P surround by aluminium unibody, power by WhiteMagic and capacitive button are reside in transparent strip. But it have low battery capacity.
Guy please help me which one do you prefer.
Thanks.

You have to think also about applications and games you already have bought through playstore, i read that some who upgraded his 2011 xperia(qualcomm) to xperia p(st-ericsson) have a lot of incompatibilites, specially games. So for me i decided to buy XSL, hd screen, 12mp camera, bigger screen, bigger battery, and better cpu 1.7ghz, and of course most of my apps that i bought from google play are compatible.
About the capacitive buttons, they are not like XP, but i got used to it, maybe live with it.

SL
Have an SL, and Im not a DB as some have indicated..Good phone and for some reason, seems to be cheaper than the S in some cases...Running Turbo Rom2 at the moment.
I have no problem running S roms with a unlocked boot loader...
Really though its essentially the same phone except the overclock, so if your going to root and rom, I really see no difference...
Haiyo...for starter, I got both xperia zl and t..both run on 4.2.2...but worder why my xperia t is much faster and smoother than zl and picture more detail in low light in t than zl...both not root by the way...I have compare both, when opening apps and capturing photo...when opening apps, t is slight faster, the same when in browser..and my 13mp t more detail than zl..and it seem the screen is better to..I haven't do a benchmark test yet..but just wondering why dual core more easy to use than quad core...hmm

That maybe truth but the real thing about the ZL is that have LTE speed, support up to 64 GB mini SD, latest Android OS, NFC communication, 5.2 inch display (441ppi) running on the Bravia engine 2, infrared port. These are mainly the advantages over the Xperia T

Well, I know this but isn't zl suppost to be superior than t in any way...the advantage that you stated is software related but isn't the purpose of quad core is to be faster and more superior processing power than the dual core....well maybe because all of this new features that make the phone slightly slower than the older t...but despite all this, I just hope the camera in zl is more powerful than t, but from my point of view, maybe it's not...not even the latest update make up for that...hope another update will fix it...still love the zl though...and it's only 5 inch, not 5.2 by the way...

Yup..running 4.2.2 (244) on my zl..and to be corrected, my t is running 4.1.2...just test it today again...and yes zl is slightly faster than 423 but still slower a bit than t...it seems everything I opened, t is just instant...but zl seems take a little bit microsecond to open compare to t...both of them just run a factory reset, just to be sure...but still, t still faster..wonder why..and my model is C6502...

I kinda agree with OP. I have both T (TL actually) and ZL . TL is probably the fastest phone I have ever used - that thing literally flys. But after the latest update, ZL got very snappy too. Try the stock launcher in case you are using something else.I saw some stutter on Nova so I switched back to stock launcher which runs very smoothly now. Also please keep in mind that majority of these phone apps are not optimized to take advantage of quadcore SoCs and 720p screen on T gives it some advantage when it comes to rendering. TL display also seems to have more contrast especially if you compare the red Xperia wallpaper on both phones
Camerawise, my TL did take better low light pictures before ZL got updates. After the last two updates on ZL, I saw significant improvement in picture quality and I'm really happy with its low light pictures now. With that said, I was surprised how much more detail ZL (running the first firmware) captured in extremely low light situation compared to galaxy S4. It was a huge difference - night and day and things got just better after the latest update.
By the way, ZL is way more compact than TL (higher screen to size ratio), comes with two more cores, IR blaster, and FHD display, looks much better in my opinion, gives much better battery life compared to TL (more than 2X in my case) - So I'd pick it over T.

Benchmarks don't do a justice to T, right? They all are craps anyway - work only for 'expert' reviewers. By the way, you're not using any launcher app on ZL, right? I noticed a bit of lag on Nova after the latest update. So I switched back to stock launcher and it feels very snappy.

Yup, just as expected anyway...when benchmarking, it's seems they effectively use all the core for this result..so more core more score...
Like 7 said, maybe some of the new updated apps not optimized for quad so maybe for real life usage, it feels slower than more optimized phone even though its older..maybe more updates will solve it...
And no, I'm not using any launcher app. If I do I will be using the widget anyway cause xperia widget is to small and not eye catching enough..it's a matter of style anyway...
It's been a long time sinse I'm not using an android phone, so after I got these two and compare it, it just kept me over night, thinking..well, anyone need a snappy phone right..?

I first owned the Xperia T and switched to ZL because I wanted LTE. I didn't notice differences in speed, both worked really well. One thing I noticed, is the much better battery life of the Xperia ZL. This was besides LTE a main concern when I used the Xperia T.
Nonetheless, a used Xperia T is one of the best deals you can get (at least in Germany) if you don't need LTE and long battery life.

But I also acknowledge about the battery life..I have test to watch blu-ray video about 2 hours and surprisingly it still got 85% more battery in it without using power management...I have using more android power devises and when I watch it, it will drain half the battery in this format video in that length...really love the zl...

Sony XPERIA M
The XPERIA M (C1905) is a brilliant little phone.
I bought one for my mother♥.
The main drivers were:
● Light (115g)
● Long battery life (1 week with her usage)
● Small(ish) form factor (124 x 62 x 9.3 mm)
● Good GPU (Adreno 305, which says more about me than my mother)
● Stylish design (Purple requested)
The Sony XPERIA M really is a joy to use. When all the above is combined into one package at an attractive price, it is a true winner for the average user.
And the real bonus is my mother likes her first Android phone.
She just uses, txt/mms, phone, calendar, email, WhatsApp, Sony Weather widget, camera a bit and the other basics.
I have root'd the phone and removed Twitter and Facebook and most of the other 'bloatware'.
Use SetCPU with screen off profiles and thus able to reduce battery consumption to the minimum. (Approx. 7% per day if not used)
I was pleasantly surprised I could get 109Mbits/sec real throughput on 5Ghz WiFi.
The downside of the XPERIA M is that it is unlikely to ever see Android 4.3 or above and any upgrades will be contained within the current Android versions.
The 2GB user data storage is an inconvenience for those on a rooted phone, but a considerable barrier for those with a stock XPERIA M.
The camera has a distinct blue tint on some phones, which is very noticeable.
The camera can still take well defined photos and we should see improvements in this area as upgrades are released in the future :fingers-crossed:.
There is no MHL support on the XPERIA M (C1904/C1905) at this time. This may change in the future either provided by Sony or via XDA Developers.
Accessories
SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSD card
MicroUSB 4-in-1 card reader.
Mugen 1900mAh battery for XPERIA L (which most likely will fit the XPERIA M)
Summary
If people bought an XPERIA M for the right reasons and NOT because they couldn't afford a Sony XPERIA Z1, the phone is very capable of providing the basic Android experience and in many cases way beyond Android phones with higher specs/prices.
Other phones in this range.
Nokia Lumia 520/525 - WP8, battery only 1430mAh, no NFC, Miracast or front facing camera. Same SoC as the XPERIA M.
If you can tear yourself away from Android, this phone is the big winner in smartphone steaks for the basic user, just on price alone.
Sony XPERIA L - Everything slightly bigger and heavier with prices still tracking the XPERIA M, but XPERIA M GPU performs better on smaller screen. Personal thing, but I like the looks of the XPERIA M better.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 3(LTE) - Ugly, A good phone in this range, but priced above the XPERIA M
Samsung Galaxy Core i8260 - Ugly, similar in specs to an XPERIA M, but with only an Adreno 203 GPU
Samsung Galaxy S4 mini - Ugly, betters the XPERIA M in almost all specs (both have Adreno 305), but more costly.
LG Optimums L5 and L9 - Mostly lower spec'd GPU.
HTC One mini - Over priced for what you get and no SDcard.
HTC Desire SV - Ugly, old GPU (Adreno 203) and quite heavy.

Mugen 1900mAh for XPERIA L (which most likely will fit the XPERIA M)

Thanks, but probably not a requirement to re-paste my war and peace epic on each subsequent post.
You're more than welcome to only quote a relevant extract/portion where relevant.

That may not be correct for a C1904/C1905 Android v4.1.2 device.
MHL is not listed as supported in any Sony documentation and that includes the White Paper.
Have a generic MHL adapter arriving in a few days, so I'll know one way or the other.

@ansebovi - That would be way cool if MHL works. As mentioned I have a MHL adapter on a slow boat from China, so I'm always up for a challenge. Does one know if the 'indo guys' where using stock ROM, or if they'd mod'd something to get it to work.
Either way if someone has done it and documented/observed it working, it's a good sign.
Thanks all for the heads up.

it's awesome our xperia m get unofficial kitkat. I'm waiting for the stable version
Hello xperia M people!!
I am here to ask you 1 question.
Xperia M or Xperia L?
I have searched the differences but sometimes the appearances are deceptive..
One friend of mine thinks of buying one of these two. What should I recommend him and why?
Thanks a lot ^_^.

Notable things;
Xperia M can be upgraded to 4.3 whilst the Xperia L is still on 4.2.2,
The Xperia M only has a 4" touch screen whilst the Xperia L has a 4.3" touch screen,
The Xperia M has a slightly higher pixel density (245 vs 228) meaning a slightly crisper display,
The Xperia M has a 5MP camera while the Xperia L has an 8MP camera,
They both have the same quality front-camera (0.3MP),
They have the same processor speeds and cores (both have a Dual core, 1000MHz processor),
They both have the same graphics processor,
They both have the same RAM,
The Xperia M has less built in storage compared to the Xperia L,
The battery life appears to be slightly better in the Xperia M.
Overall it seems to me as though the Xperia L is a more camera focused smartphone while the Xperia M is a more all round smartphone.
If your friend will be taking a lot of photos it is worthwhile going for the L due to the camera and storage space, if they won't be taking many photos then the M is the better option.
If you have enough money buy xperia L but if you have lots of money buy z1.
I only enough money to buying xpeeri m,so i buy it
