Ok after browsing all these ROMS and basically starting to get a headache lol, can anyone recommend a rom thats stock froyo (or close to as I use the football app and the nascar app etc) that also allows me to tether wifi. Ive probably looked at over 7 roms maybe more and they all seem custom in some way shape or form which im not interested in. I did look at the stock rooted 2.2 but I dont think it suits my needs, unless theres something im missing about tethering

Once you are rooted, the wireless tether application for root users will work on every rom. You can use any stock rom of your liking and then add the wireless tether app from the market and you will be all set.
Wow! Seriously?! Why in dev section?! I'm sorry to be rude but I'm getting tired of ppl always posting non-developing stuff on the DEVELOPMENT section. I almost never comment but I'm tired of this.
Please, next time post it on the Q&A section.
Thanks.
Edit: I'll be glad to help if mods move it to Q&A.
Stock froyo like sense 2.2 rooted? There's that option, if you mean like stock android froyo ala 2.2 there is CM6

OP,
I understand your headaches since I am basically wanting the same thing. But after a little looking around, think that the ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352 is what you are looking for. They use to have a thread on just ROMs, how they have been modified, etc.
Also krazyconejo, maybe this is a way for a developer to help out a user? I know that the developers love to have their ROMs used, or at least some input instead of jumping on a guy, maybe you should strongly suggest for future education. Sometimes it is better to coach a fellow member than hit him over the nose with a rolled up news paper (figuritively speaking) - without being disrespectful to you.
Krazy..ive spent the past few hours searching and reading this section of the forums, so excuse me for posting here and upsetting you lol. Since this is a question about ROMS specifically and this section has them all listed, I felt it would be better answered here, then in a general Q&A section. I tend to value the replies I get in a specific forum topic more then a general one
like I said before I usually don't say anything and just ignore it. But if I come to the developing section, I expect to see that and not waste my time with this.
As for OP sorry for being mean but if you would had posted this in the right place, I'm petty sure someone would had helped.
*Not gonna respond anymore. OP if you still help pm me and let's just let this thread die.
Thanks.
if you want the football and nascar app...just flash any rom and install those apks.

Sorry, I didn't get past this part. I'm still too busy reeling from the discovery that someone actually uses those two apps to recommend that you use DamageControl 3.5 or something based from it.

This may be true however it is still the wrong place to post this. questions go in questions forum or in the thread of a specific rom/kernal if they pertain to it. since this is a general questions about roms and doesnt fit into a specific rom thread it belongs in the Q&A forum. Most of the people who will give you a true answer from dev also frequently go to the QA section. also yuo will get flamed less and not have to wade through as many posts telling you that you posted wrong.
To answer your question. You can use wifi tether with stock rooted froyo or almost any custom rom. you can still use football/nascar you can try Damage control 3.5 which will let you easily select what you want to have or not of the sprint apps and have the rest removed. you can also use roms like fresh Evio and baked snacks and install the .spk for those 2 apps.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Baked snack then install nascar and football apk. If you need them im sure they are floating around here somewhere if not pm me.
You could also try fresh. He puts all the apks he removes in a folder on your sdcard.

lol thanks for all the info...Kinda new to the whole rooting thing and with all the roms flying around and the 100+ pages for each its alot to read over but I tried as much as I could
And yes I am a nascar fan and a football fan..And since Verizon has the good app lol..I use what I got!!!
You could also probably find those .apks by browsing for a folder of the Fresh Removed .apks folder that comes with the Fresh ROM, or just find some Fresh user to upload them for you.

I just said that 2 posts up
I am thinking about rooting using unrevoked 3. I am pretty sure that is strait forward. After that I should install titanium back up and do a nand back up? Then after that I should be able to delete the sense apk and htc lock apk screen and it should be stock vanilla 2.2 right. If I want to restore for a OTA can I just use the nand backup?
Then if I want to try flashing Roms what should I do? Is the Rom manager app all I need?
I usually try to ignore these threads but jesus man read a lill first

OK.
First, wrong section. This should be in Q&A whether anyone responds to it there or not.
Second, Titanium doesn't do NAND backups. That's a job for the recovery.
Third, deleting two apks will not make the ROM "vanilla". It will only mess things up and ruin your experience. If you want "vanilla", there are plenty of AOSP ROMs you can flash after you root.
Fourth, you don't do OTAs after you're rooted. It would unroot you, and you'd have to start all over, and there's no guarantee there would be root available for the new OTA. You should just stick to flashing rooted stock ROMs.
Fifth, I would personally advise against ROM Manager and tell you to learn to do it manually. It's not difficult at all, just a matter of learning a specific sequence of simple steps.
I think that about covers everything. I'm sure someone else will fill in the pieces I've missed.

You should probably do some more reading. Titanium back up only backs up apps. If you want a nand back up you do it through recovery. Deleting that stuff does not make it vanilla lol. If you want a vanilla build run a AOSP rom. I don't use Rom manager it crap I flash manually

Google is your friend, learn to use it. Also not trying to scare you, but you could get stuck in bootloops so its better to read everything first then try flashing something.
Your post shows that you are completely clueless, so I really recommend that you read and research before you even attempt to do anything to your device.
Google the following:
1) how to root android
2) how to install custom roms
3) how to use Titanium backup
4) Difference between ASOP and Sense
5) Search in this forum "How to unroot your Evo in two easy steps" if you dont understand or cant follow the instructions there, you may want to reconsider rooting your device. Since if something goes wrong, you will need to unroot the device before taking it to Sprint, etc.
Also dont get offended by these comments because XDA isnt usually like this. But when its very clear that a member hasn't done any research, and expects to be spoonfed all the info, you will get flamed.
How did OP even start this thread in this section? He only has 5 posts... Did the rules change?
wow, my mistake. I'll just stick to Android central.

The reason you got the response you did is because you posted in the wrong section. Whike I know you are new to the forum out is always a good idea you read the stickies on any forum you visit.
Tons of new people make the same mistake.i wouldn't let it turn you of but use it as a learning experience.
Xda is an amazing forum (if you are willing to take the time to search post in correct places and do a little work yourself by researching.)
If you aren't willing to do those things then you will find it a cold unfriendly place.
Fort better or worse it is not always newbie friendly. On the plus most of the major developers are here so once you learn you have tons of resources.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
As others have stated previous, irritation arose due to posting in the wrong section (initially) and coming to the table without having first exhausted all resources outside making a new thread (see: Google, searching XDA, other forums, YouTube, even).
There are many guides to help you out there, many on these forums specifically. As one other said previously, as well, don't let this shown irritation from other users discourage you from using these forums. XDA is, by far, the best place regarding the rooting, flashing, development, and customization of our phones. You would be wise to stick around and learn the ropes a bit.
Next time, if you have a question, try posting what you did in the body, explaining what research you have done and what did or didn't work before you decided to post a new thread. This will help others see that you have indeed looked around some and tried some things out instead of rushing to post a new thread without seeing if your question(s) was/were already answered.
Overall, your experience can be very good and you can learn a lot from these forums. I'm still pretty new myself, but I visit these forums every single day and read up on things and just take it all in.
Have fun with everything! If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to help. But do some research before, if you do!
I would suggest reading and asking lots of questions and reading and asking lots of questions and reading and asking lots of questions before doing anything to your phone....
I think all of these responses would make me a little nervous as well...
EndlessDissent -
I have found Rom Manager to be quick and painless, why would you advise against using it?
fyi - I use it w/clockwork recovery instead of Amon-RA. And have downgraded it because of some kind of edify scripting problems. is this less than optimal?
Ok I think I have read all I can and watched all the youtube videos I can handle. It looks pretty strait forward and seems to be easier that the palm pre.
Now can anyone recommend a GB Rom? I would love a pure nexus s expirence. I plan to get it when it comes out.
I would recommend CM7, but some would say no cuz of weird instances that happened to a couple people. Evervolv, Salvage, king's ultra, and miui all have gingerbread though.

I second CM7. There are thousands of users, thus lots of potential help. It is a ROM that has been for awhile and they have really worked out quite a good percentage of the bugs that will inevitably come with any GB ROM.
Flash CM7 and get a good feel for it before you start hopping ROMs. Also do yourself a favor and make sure you use the search button liberally before you post questions/issues in the CM7 threads and provide some info on what you did to resolve your issues (you will have issues). If you do that the chances you'll get help rather than flames goes up 10,000%.
I would strongly recommend against MIUI. It is unquestionably the best ROM I have ever used, but it is really not a good ROM for an EVO rookie. The quirks in the flashing process are plentiful and the preciseness required by the nature of the ROM will suit you much better a month from now.
I'm sure there will be people who disagree with me, but I help people everyday who would not have needed help if they had learned a little more about the process on a more basic ROM with lot's of support and fewer bells and whistles. Just my two cents.
The options in teh roxxorz's post are good options as well.

What is the best article(s) to read if you want to start learning how to port roms from other android phones to the Evo? I've been searching on here and on google and it seems most articles are either outdated or only talk about editing existing cooked roms so I finally broke down and posted this. Yes I do use Linux and I do program in Java and .NET and do have a bachelors in software development but I have just never looked into doing this type of work until now.
Thank you, any direction I'm pointed in is appreciated.
I'll direct to you the Q&A forum.
Side Note:This goes in General, but im nice so ill answer you question.
There is no real BOOK to read, a java book is a good start, but you say you know java, so you can probably skip that.
Basically, this is all you have to do.
Download "Dsixda's Kitchen" to your linux distro(amazing software)
Grab a rom from another device.
Grab one of our(evo)stock roms(deodexed Stock 3.70 is good for froyo port,4.12 for gingerbread)
Open the kitchen, and find the option(#19 i think it is), and follow the steps to port it(hold on, your not done yet)
From there you will need do some manual work by tinkering with libs, tinkering with the boot.img, bascally just tinkering with everything related to booting(libs,ramdisk,hw-libs,etc.) untill you can get it to boot or bootloop.
If it boots, thats great, if it bootloops, youlle need to logcat it then debug it.
If you need help with something, pm me, other than that, thats basically(*note: i said basic, more complexed roms like sense 3.0 and non-htc device rom may require extra work)(*note2:alot of times, its going to be a no-booter, but just keep trying.)

Don't forget some of the most important stuff is in the build.prop and update-script.
Word of advice, look at a sense 2.1 and check out the base that was used. You can also use beyond compare and basically skip Linux all together. Using kitchen to deodex the ruu is a good first step. Choose option 11 in the menu.
Personally, I would start off with a working port and changing apps and moving stuff around. Also get a good list at which libs are associated with what. But use stock bins, etc, xbin, hw libs, and ported apks, framework, and software associated libs. Stock boot.img and a good updater-script. Also know key
Things like the EVO density is 160, vold_stab is usb, amkd is rotation, gsl hw accel stuff like that.
But first things first, Google is ur friend and use the q&a section.

ah yes, forgot about build.prop, and i think the kitchen takes care of updater script(unless the device has specific mount pointsor you want text or to clear cache and system). i was just getting the basics to boot, from ther he can debug the errors out of the log.
What about something A LOT simpler like adding the CRT animations to a ROM? any pointers? Any TUT you can point me to?

I'm actually glad this thread is still here we don't get to learn much from the devs here. I mean its mostly do it yourself but a getting started guide isn't a bad thing. Check out the APKTool, APKManager threads. Lots of great valuable information in there.
I sometimes wish XDA focused more on the "HOW TO" and less on the delivery aspect. The more folks developing, the further we will be along
Another great way to get started is to mentor with another established developer.

Well said. People love to flame anyways and XDA is famous among other Android forums for being so harsh. This thread helped me out big time, and it's especially nice to see Leoisright and myn in here giving up a few pointers, because I too was curious about porting. Hi all,
I am going through all the threads that have ics based roms for our phone and thought it might be a good idea if we had a communal collation of all ics roms that are active in this forum with provided chainlogs and small reviews of said rom and what issues they have.
Reason for this is simple, to help other users that are not confident in flashing up to 4.0.3 unaware that they may run into something that they did not bargain for.. Hopefully this way we
A) Get a general run down each week as to what rom is working well which are not.
B) Issues/bugs.
C) Reviews of what works and not.
D) Temp fixable issues ie: auto rotation.
E) May help in less clutter in actual development thread.
I thought I would put this out see if anyone agrees here. I am more than welcome that if we use this thread as a starting point.
In no way shape or form that this thread will be used as a means of competitiveness between devs, to start flaming in any sort of fashion, this is purely a thread designed to help everyone with ics progression where its at, what dev's are up too and which would be safe to flash and what is not and is for experimental use.
Hopefully this could be a useful thread, with the dev's permission in doing this of course
Cheers.
I like the idea
+1 to this idea!!
There are already Q&A threads for each of the ROM's. Why make the board more cluttered than it already is by re-posting what is already in those threads?
People need to learn to use the search function and stop being lazy and actually take the time to read a thread every now and then. A thread like this will do nothing but enable the lazy to be even less productive and will not help. You will just see the same questions asked here over and over and over and over and over just like in all the other threads.
Also if people would read a damn OP like they are supposed to before flashing a ROM they would already know what does and doesn't work and if the ROM is a RC or experimental.
+1

Valued response, and yes using the search tool does help, but. rather than searching for what is needed why don't we have one thread to sum up on all progression? This thread is not designed to have countless questions all this is to gather weekly updates on ics roms from there respected developer. If someone wanted to ask questions they should be directed to the respected Q&A thread as they have there own. If someone wishes to choose to read up on what is happening in the world of ics t989 development then they come here nothing more nothing less.
As this wouldn't be hard to do at every week commencing someone can be anyone can choose to post up any sort of update to any rom and that is valid for that week only... then make up another thread so for example this one wouldn't spiral out of control and inform a mod to delete or close thread... simple that way it would stay fresh relevant with what we want to know, and of course anyone can participate in this.
Again thanks for your input, I'm not saying this is what we should be doing but a suggestion to everyone and see if this would make life a little easier on some. Alternatively if you don't like it then don't post anything worth mentioning and leave for people who could benefit from it
Cheers.

To replace my battery and my camera since it force closes, I use QuickPic as my gallery and Camera zoom FX Pro as my camera. They work pretty well with some minor set backs.
Echo?
Are there any ICS ROMs that do not have an echo????
It seems to be an issue with the flashing process as far as echo goes...easy does it, my DD has no echo...actually while many people have reported that among other bugs the only one I have is the reboot hang...which really...tough **** I have to hold the power button down the few times I need to turn it off lol. Oddly though it does not hang if I reboot into recovery from rom manager.
Ics is really weird...everyone is getting different bugs following the same install process. I'm guessing some of our devices are more willing to adapt to the skyrocket kernel than others...

Guess you got the one with the magic bean.
Well before I went on vacation Tuesday I was playing around with a few of the different ics that are there for tmo gs2 and found that a lot of issues went away when I unmounted the SD card. The camera had no problem and I didn't notice any echoed sound. Kind of strange but one thing I noticed that a lot of native ics devices don't have external SD cards. Might be something for devs to look at.

Which is the Google+ page of the dev in charge of maintaining CM9 on the amaze, no cyanogen dev is currently.working on our device. Sad to see but figured I'd share for those ccurious

Just a suggestion, but you may want to consider expanding on the issues so those that may feel like investigating have more to go on. For example..:
*Volume slider and slider animation - Can you provide a screenshot for reference of the issue?
*Missing Features - A list of what you find missing would be helpful. For example; Sprint removed Maps and YouTube since they can be downloaded from the Play Store...
*Unstable in general - How so? What are you seeing that makes you say it's unstable..? FC's, freezing, etc?
There again, only a suggestion but you may get more participation or helpful thoughts on remedies..
More Updates?
I was half expecting gb27 to be the end of the line for this phone.

GC01 is Boost's Official JB release.
Post removed. Wrong thread.
Now stop the bickering please.
Post edited.
People please... keep this thread on topic. There are a large amount of boost mobile users that are debating on whether to update or not. Thank you.
Wow... A newbie throwing out rules... Granted threads should stay on topic, but you should understand who is posting in your thread, OP. Garwynn is one of the biggest contributors for the E4GT as well as MoHoGalore. I don't think you have any room to make those kinds of demands when a RC has given you advice on this thread and you completely ignore it. So really, this thread has no real topic of discussion because it says absolutely nothing because of the lack of information provided, therefore people can post whatever they want because this thread is just cluttering up the forum.

Whether they're senior members or not, they should follow rules. They could be the owners of XDA and I'd still tell them to stay on topic. There are threads for general conversations, this is not one of them. Rules are rules, and they are meant to be followed. Now please stay on topic people, people really need these kinds of things. And also, he gave me a suggestion. I did not follow his advice because I did not feel the need to do so. My thread, my topic, my list. Whoever wants to add to the list can. Bugs need to be reported to samsung so that hopefully we will have a better future release.

Well if his advice is not important, then I am going to ask a mod to close this thread because it provides nothing. Also, that will be the last update from Samsung, so with that said, this thread is useless. I also am curious about who is reporting said "bugs" to Samsung? Do you think they will come here to find it? Nope. For the record, they nor I are just Senior Members. All of us that have posted and offered advice are Recognized Contributors. One would do well to take the advice of an RC to help better a thread, instead of blatantly ignoring them. We have been around for quite some time and in that time have learned how things work.

as soon as i gather more bugs i will report to samsung over and over until they release another update, and it was never stated that this would be the last update for the boost model. and if this thread does get closed ill start a fresh new thread where theres no un-needed conversation.

The Boost model is the same as the E4GT. The 4.1.2 JB Update has been reported as the final from the Samsung sources. I highly doubt they will pay attention to one person reporting little bugs, especially when you don't describe them at all. They have more important things to worry about.
i have a question. does it make you feel better to put people down over the internet? does it make you feel as if your in control of everybody? im not going to be the only one reporting. others that want a bug free GC01 will also report. now please stop further cluttering my thread and go troll someone else.

How am I putting you down? I am agreeing with another RC about your thread not having any descriptions to your so called "bugs". I am not trying to control anything. I am offering the same advice. You can do whatever you like, but I can bet that this thread will either die as is, or it will get closed. You can either let one of the 2 happen by not doing anything to fix it, or do something productive and make it a worthwhile thread. Also, take note. I have not seen very many other people complain about it. Seems like you are the only one or one of a very few people.
Protip: Putting full, well thought out descriptions of your issues will help us help you possibly fix them. If you don't think descriptions are important, you will get nothing.
Example: When testing Shadow_God's Jellyverse 2.0 ROM before he posted it. I ran into a few crashes. I didn't just say "Oh, it crashed". I went into details. "Downloaded via Wi-Fi and installed through Agats GB27 RePack. ROM booted fine, but shortly after getting into the setup process the Android.phone process started force closing. My baseband seems to have been wiped and the launcher seems to be nonexistent."
I then took steps to fix it myself. I was able to fix it with little to no effort, and SG was able to post the ROM without any issues.
So with all that said, if you want to ignore very experienced veterans on XDA, that is your choice. You are free to do so. But don't expect me or anyone else to take you seriously when we make an honest effort to gain viable and needed information to potentially resolve the issues, then have you ignore the efforts.
Consider the following, if we don't take you seriously because of your lack of information and willingness to help us help you, do you honestly think Samsung will give even the slightest crap? They won't... Like I said before, they have better and more important things to do.

I vote for option two.
The lack of description on these so called bugs is not informative to the readers, it makes me want to try flashing GC01 to my E4GT just so that I can try to experience whatever issues are being mentioned.

Removed my first post on this thread. I was wrong to post here and op was right to call out.
Op... how you updated to gc01 makes a difference. I still recommend a factory reset or full restore one click. This will resolve most issues as noted in past.
As for whether to update or not that's your call. Most around here believe it is FAR better than ICS and even though this is expected to be the final s/w release feel free to complain to Samsung and/or Boost if not happy. That's your right.
But please avoid using generalizations and then assuming the build is bad based on one individual's experience. That too does other folks a disservice. If you can please provide more specific details it helps the community note confirmed issues and possibly address them on our own.
Thanks.

I never stated that the build was bad, but like every build it has bugs. the reason i didnt further explain is beacause there really is no way for a screenshot... but i believe i found a fix to anyone experiencing these bugs. so heres what i did to fix my problem.
1. download superuser.zip from rwilco's repo
2. download the gb27 repack from rwilco's repo
3. download the stock gc01 stock kernel
4. place superuser.zip on your sd card
5. Odin the GB27 repack
6. enter recovery and flash superuser.zip
7. delete dalvik cache
8. odin stock gc01 kernel
9. reboot twice

go ahead. the more help the better. it is not some bug that will make you loose all your data... it is minor bugs that annoy the (insert profanity here) out of me. keep in mind there are two installation methods to installing GC01 provided by samsung, local and kies. i chose local because kies wouldnt update for somereason and would randomly crash
