Help retrieving data off of phone memory? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

hey guys,
i'm the guy who dropped his phone in the toilet and i am now going through a warranty exchange for a new one. my problem now is that i have a bunch of data (mainly music but also photos) on the internal memory of my phone and it wont turn on. doesn't matter if i plug it into the wall or anything, it just won't turn on. if i hold down the power button long enough, i get a vibration coming out of it but nothing on the screen and my comp doesn't register it as plugged in. any ideas on how to get my music and pics off of the internal mem?

If you cant power it up, then theres no hope for retrieving the information on your internal memory...sorry

have you tried the rice trick?
I know it's common knowledge, but if you put the phone in a bag of rice for 24 hours or so maybe you could limp the phone through some data recovery

Also, if you haven't tried to dry it out with any method. Like on top of the fridge, rice, etc
Stop trying to turn it on

if you get it running somewhat
Use WiFi file explorer

[Q] Did I really just true-brick my E4GT?

Ok, I switched up from the Epic, and that thing was almost impossible to brick. Every time I tried to install new ROMS, kernels, whatever, if it failed, I was always able to get it into download mode, Odin the stock ROM, and I was back and working.
I'm not a ROM newb, but this was the first time trying something with the E4GT. For this phone, I was trying to install one of the pre-rooted kernels, and the process failed. I let odin say it failed and unplugged the phone, pulled the battery and tried to get it into download mode again (Vol down + Power) but all I get is the Blue LED, nothing else. Screen and buttons don't light up, no USB recognition (with many various cables.) The most I get is the blue LED.
So, is it totally screwed?
If I can't get something going, I am just going to have the store replace it. (Good rapport with the SM, since it's not working at all, I will likely have her replace it with a new handset today.)
I'd rather not waste a perfectly good phone though if it isn't totally screwed.
Any suggestions?
You probably arent screwed try this and do it step by step
Turn phone off plug your usb into the comp FIRST hold vol down first then power "keep holdin them" galaxy s logo may appear twice before entering dload mode!!
Then you should be in dload mode hit volume up then connect your usb cord to phone
then open odin
also try plugging in your usb cord to epic first with the battery out hold vol down and power then put battery in real fast after that may help into download mode
Side note see if your battery shows charging on front screen when you, plug usb in , im curious to see if you did the same thing i did, oh yes you can hard brick it easily i did two days ago... but i flashed a aTAT GSM rom, over the cdma phone which is a pemabrick instantly, i lost all usb recognition for good!!
---------- Post added at 12:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 AM ----------
I forgot to mention try the 3 button combo for dload mode that the gt i9100 uses hold VOL DOWN, @ HOME BUTTON @ POWER all at once its worth a shot after i flashed the gsm tar file i had to use the atat download mode ,method for their galaxy s device
---------- Post added at 12:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:57 AM ----------
Theres no way you dont have dload mode, unless you flashed a kernel from a gsm rom, are you certain it was one of the kernels for the epic touch 4g, your probably just having a hard time gettin the button config right for dload mode
nope, doesn't work. I tried everything you said above, and it does nothing more than light the blue LED.
I was trying to flash the deodexed-rooted-busybox-EG30.tar, but it didn't get to that point in Odin.
I think this is one of the first non-gsm kernel true bricks...
In a flashing video, one of the ACS guys said if a flash didn't take and you are having issues, pull the battery and let the sit an hour or two with out power. Maybe push power button to try to drain the phone completely. Then try reflashing. Sounds a little wishful to me but maybe he knows something I don't.
Google Samsung epic 4g jig and try to find the documentation for making one. It's only a micro usb plug and a 301K resistor jumping pins. Maybe that will get you into download mode.

take it to a service repair center, dont mention flashing tars, just say u did a kies update on windows 7 64 bit and it crashed they are wll aware that kies wasnt optimized for windows 7 at some point and theyve seen alot of these crashes, just act like you have no idea and no nothing about android, theyll take it right into the back try to flash the tar then, if they cant get it into odin, theyll simply throw a new motherboard in.. tel em its your only phone , they wont let u leave without it working..
thats what theyre paid to do they have parts, they wont charge you and if you dont have insurance theyll add it on the spot..
took me 25 min and i walked out with a working epic.
Then when u get it id leave it be.. or have someone else do the kernal flashing.

Theyre have been more bricking with this perticular phone than i have ever seen with samsung before... Not sure why, but mine was by mistake, i had taken a bad tar file for a gt i9100 atat phone that was renamed eg30.tar so i got screwed by an asshole!!
---------- Post added at 01:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:51 AM ----------
That makes sense, kinda like when you replace a part on a vehicle that was throwing a bad code it wont fix the issue until you pull the batt cable and turn on your lights to fully drain your computer brain!!
---------- Post added at 01:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 AM ----------
When mine was bricked i still had download mode, but had to use home with the 3 button combo to get into it, but i had no usb recognition, I still think you have download mode regardless, just some reason you cant get into it!!
It can be tricky, i know on tmobiles vibrant you had to plug in usb cord with batt out and do the button combo then put battery back in and it forced it into download mode!
I left the battery out all night last night, and held the buttons down for about 30 seconds without battery in to see if that drained the capacitors in the phone and still nothing.
Just going to have the manager at the Advanced Exchange store replace my device. I know her personally, so she will likely just swap with a New in box handset since it's totally out.

[Q] Phone won't boot after being off for two days, where to start?

My 15 Y-O was using my old MT3GS while waiting on parts for her iPhone 3G. Once the parts came in and her phone was back working, she turned off the MT3GS. Two days later she dropped her phone and broke her digitizer. She went back to the MT3GS but it wouldn't start. Her sim card is good, she's now using our phone of last resort, an old Samsung feature phone.
When I opened the back to pull the battery I found the sim card tray unlocked. I fixed the sim tray, pulled the battery, waited a few minutes and put the battery back. On startup it vibrated once, but nothing else happened. I assumed the battery was drained, so I stuck in on the charger overnight. When I woke up, the battery light was green indicating a full charge, but it still does the one vibrate and then a whole lot of nothing.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Is the phone stock or rooted?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using xda app-developers app
It's stock, but I picked it up from eBay and I've replaced all of the external hardware. (Digitizer and outer shell)
I did pull the sticker off the original shell and move it to the new shell, but it's obvious to see.
A few questions, are you running the froyo update? Do you have the sdk installed? Are you willing to root/unlock the phone?
If the answer to all these questions is yes then you can try to root/unlock the phone, install a custom recovery, do the nessasary wipes and reinstall your rom or even a custom rom of your choice. I'm not sure if its a hardware issue. Doing the above doesn't work then I would say it is a hardware issue.

I'm running 2.2 (but not the updated release in the past week). I should, I've rooted and installed a custom ROM on my MT4GS. And I'm more than willing to root / unlock this phone.

I assume your on the 1.05 hboot? Check your hboot if it is you will need to unlock through htcdev.com. follow the instructions, and root that way. There is another thread on the forums that discuss this method. I did s-off early on so I won't be of much help with the official method.

I can't check my hboot, since the phone won't start.
Also Windows sees an empty removable disk.
ABD and FASTBOOT command shows no devices connected.
If adb and fastboot won't read the phone then I'm at a loss. Sorry I wish I could be more helpful.

I did some checking around and other people have had this problem too. Sounds like it is one of two things. A: it is a hardware issue. B: your yaffs partition got corrupted somehow. Neither of those can be fixed here. The phone would need to be serviced, but I would get a second opinion, I don't know all there is to know about the phone and I'm not a dev. You could try taking the phone in and have it looked at. The best of luck.

So what happens when you hit power is a single vibrate and then nothing. The phone won't change, won't turn on and then won't do anything until you pull the battery.

Interestingly enough, vol down and power does absolutely nothing. No vibrate, nothing. But after giving up, you can hit power to get the one vibrate....
---------- Post added at 02:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:08 PM ----------
So I did a bit of thinking about this and wondered if the problem might be the LCD.
I pulled the battery
I hit vol down + power
I hit vol down again
I hit power
When I plugged it in via USB my PC recognized it and I was able to get the following from ADB.exe.
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
HT06WPS10312 offline
So now I'm fairly well convinced that the phone may be ok and it's just the LCD that's dead. But I need some assistance with validating the phone is ok before I consider spending $20 - $30 for a replacement LCD.
I had a similiar problem that turn out to be a bad battery. Wouldnt hold a charge and wouldn't boot. Is this the oem battery?

[Q] Phone died, stuck at battery charging screen

So I bought this phone a few days ago and everything seemed to work fine. Yesterday I left the phone at home while I was at work because I could not use it. The battery died while I was at work so when I got home I attempted to charge it. When I plug it in the blue LED flashes for a second and then the "empty" battery screen shows up but the spinning circle just freezes. It stays at this screen and when I leave it plugged in for a long time the screen will go on and off about every 5 seconds or so. I let it charge over night and woke up to the same problem today. Took it to a local cell phone store to buy an OEM battery (since it is larger than the one that was in the phone and should be charged) and still the same issue. Phone is rooted and running ParanoidAndroid 2.56. Any suggestions?
Flash means it's booting...

Same thing here! Wiped battery stats, checked cables, etc... Take phone apart(after cleaning charge port doesnt fix) push all small pins into the back of the charge port evenly.... Plug up charger... If still fail, reflow motherboard with heatgun @ about 500 degrees farenheight

[Q] Broken Power button

So the other day if fell/dropped my phone in a puddle and before I could pull the battery the power button shorted. It's all dried out now and as good as it can be, for a while everything was working fine but then the battery died and now, seeing as the power button doesn't work at all, I have no way of charging it. Is there any way to boot without the power button? It's just stock and I've tried a bunch of battery pulls, unplugging/replugging the charger, all this janky stuff that I read about here and elsewhere, but none of them work. I know that the best thing is to go to the store, and I will eventually, but I'd like a work around for the time being. I saw someone mention that it can be turned on by a key combo on the keyboard, anyone know what that is?
There's some apps in the play store that will turn on the the phone without the power button, but they're buggy.
Search power on.
Some require root but most don't. It uses the proximity sensor If I remember correctly.

Is this really bricked now?

Hi all,
Installed snd Bootloader as described (don't have link at hand sorry)...all seemed well. Got a screen with Fastboot Logo and used pr to reboot, again as prescribed. Kindle turned off and its two days now and it STILL refuses to boot up AT ALL.
Tried the various methods of holding on button for 30 secs etc etc...all to no avail. Not recognised by PC (unsurprisingly).....so,
...am I now the proud owner of a rather expensive paperweight?
No warranty I hasten to add!
So you didn't tell us too much. Does it do anything at all. If it displays anything then you probably can fix it.
