Hi guys!
Since I am not allowed to post on Devs threads, I post my question here, hoping for maxio1998 to see it, or anyone related to the Jelly Sandwich Project
I own a Xperia Arc. I had it upgraded through PcCompanion, to ICS 4.0.4.
Since it was very laggy and I had little rom space available, I decided it was time for a change. I unlocked my bootloader, flashed the Advanced Stock Kernel via fastboot and flashed Jelly Sandwich 8.0 in CWM.
The situation is that my processor is not running at its full capacity, and I don't know if it's because of my kernel selection, or due to some tweaks in the custom rom I chose. The max frequency is 806 MHz.
I don't want to overclock, but having it working at its normal 1GHz would be preferred, since it has become to be laggy after a while (not as much as stock ICS, but still...)
Attached is a picture using CPU Spy +, to show the magnitude of the situation.
Is there another kernel that you would recommend?
Thanks in advance

I'm used Advanced Stock Kernel with stock firmware. Advanced Stock Kernel not supported overclock feature.
You can get "No-frills CPU Control" from google play and adjust Max. Clock freq. to 1.024 GHz.

Thanks for the piece of advice :highfive:
It seems it solved my problem. I fastbooted ArcKnight kernel and with that app I'm now able even to set it to overclock if required.

you need to make sure your using an oc kernel or you cant overclock ..... if you are just buy setcpu from the market .....
So I just need the OC Kernel? how bout the OpenDesire?

open desire has oc kernel, richardtrip just released an oc kernel for sence roms too here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801435, like i said just use setcpu,
Ok..So what I need is just a ROM manager to flash it right? then backup it before I flash it?
well it depends on which ROM you are running ,
>if you are running some non-sense roms like Open desire or Defrost ,
then you can use setcpu directly ,because it comes with overclocked kernel
>if are using sense ROMs like leedroid, Nextsense etc,
you need a overclocked kernel you can download it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801915
flash the zip file in recovery mode , then use setcpu
i recommend you to reboot after overclocking ....
If I use OpenDesire rom how much Mhz can it increase after overclock?
That depends on the "quality" of your cpu
(the cpu is guaranteed to work at stock speed, anything higher is a guess, and may be cause of instability)
In case of a "bad" cpu you might be able to get it to ± 1050 Mhz
I've seen "lucky" people mentioning ± 118*Mhz (don't remember the actual number )
And don't forget it will put a extra drain on you battery.
This is something you could have found yourself by searching / reading the Developers sub-forum

my phone works well at 1118mhz, im just waiting for a kernel that will let me oc it abit more
i tested my desire with opendesire-4.33 you can safely overclock your cpu to 1190mhz using setcpu ,,and remember it drains your battery like hell,, set your scaling to on-demand mode.
I'm runing stock Sense ROM and would like to flash Kernel that will allow me to overclock to 1.7 or even more.
EDIT: If possible by insmod (oc module + cpu freq table), that would be even better.
+1
and it should not mess up with the Wi-Fi MAC address & Bluetooth
I tried some 1.5GHz/overclock kernel, either of them changed my Wi-Fi MAC or messed up Bluetooth pairings. Now using overclocking module(GodSpeed)

Oh wow that's crazy. Would it be safe to clock it at that speed?
I'd say 1.4GHz is relatively safe, running it for weeks.
1.9-2.0 definitely insane, but I'd like to try 1.7 and maybe higher to see how far it goes.
So would like to know which kernel from G2 forum would work with Sense ROM, or maybe someone could extract the needed files so we could install via insmod.
I think we only need two files: one for OC and the other with voltage table.

The 1.8GHz kernel on G2 forum works on Desire Z, except Bluetooth.
Just tested on my Hong Kong Desire Z, until they fix the BT issue, I will stay with 1.4GHz
Maybe there is a way to unpack that kernel and only take the overclock part of it, that should keep all other stuff working.

right now i have the stock rom installed (touchwiz) so i did not change the rom or something, but i installed an oc that overclocks the processor to 1.8GHZ, if i flash the revolution rom, is that ok? can i do that with the overclock applied? i don't want to destroy this device i just got it a couple of days ago and i want to have the revolution rom with 1.8ghz oc, so i installed the oc fist now i need to flash.
Please help!!
Can i just flash the ROM or do i need to do something about the kernel before

If im not mistaken, you need to have rooted before you can use those overclock apps.
If your devices still remain stock kernel and stock rom. Please go to stickies or dr.ketan thread and follow the guide root the devices and install cwm. Then you can flash anything you want.

My device is rooted and I am using a custom kernel. I want to flash the revolution ROM. And also have the custom kernel installed. Do I have to return the kernel to stock to flash? Or can I just flash the ROM
Update: I have successfully flashed revolution ROM on my note. I now want to use a custom oc kernel clocking the processor at 1.8GHz. Is there any risk in that? Before I installed the ROM is was just fine, but i don't know if it's compatible with the revolution ROM.

Since you have fully devices at the moment. You can download persues or notecore kernel to achieved 1.8ghz speed.

Im not very sure about the risk of overclock proccesor at higher speed. Since im never use this at all because of our note have sufficient speed and responsive to handle all kind of task.

OK I over clocked it and for some reason the performance is terrible. I did a factory reset and flashed the ROM again and every thing sense to be working fine. But one thing top be noted is that after the over clock i did the phone performance was terrible but benchmark scores were remarkable. I secord 7900 on quadrant which is pretty sick. So i guess I'll Hyatt stick with the revolution ROM with no over clock.
Peak speeds are just one factor, usually not very useful apart from benchmarks. Latency and responsiveness (ie. How the CPU ramps up a reacts to loads) is far more important in perceived smoothness.

I've just rooted my SGW 2 days ago (yayyy!) . At this point I've just wanted to root my phone, and while reading a post elsewhere about apps for rooted phone,
I'm curious about SetCpu, and SD-Booster.
I've been searching about these apps in this SGW forum, and I've seen people suggesting it, but that is on the custom roms / kernel. So, let say I'm
changing the cache size to 2048 kb or setting the max / min MHz, will it have any effect on my stock rom ?
Should I use this app only after I flash a different roms / kernel? Btw, I haven't got any issues with the stock setting. Just. Curious. Any advise is deeply appreciated .
Hey. it WORKs bro
if you have rooted stock you can setCPU clock, and SD-Booster
5 month ago i use stock and make some mod. like use init.D script, setCPU (govenor,I/O,clock) and SD speed
but now i never use stock anymore, LOVE MIUI :victory:
note :
When you setCPU clock never set higher than 1.4GHz / you will burning your phone

Thanks ! Me too, will flash on different roms for sure, just not now .
Noted about the setCPU clock ! Regards ~
Hello everyone,
I am running the STOCK 2.3.3 rom (verizon) but using this kernel designed for stock 2.3.3 (here)
I can adjust the cpu levels just fine, but no matter what governor I choose it stays at the maximum level, as if in performance mode. I've checked with a few cpu-monitoring apps and nothing seems out of the ordinary at all. The phone also seems to be laggy in games at times, as if there is something running in the background. (But no unusual processes/apps are running)
It was working pretty good yesterday, but I don't know if it was maxed or not at that time, I didn't notice until today. So, is this a kernel problem? Is there another recommended kernel that can overclock properly using the stock ROM?
I ask because I can't find any tutorials on how to install a recovery to flash r800x to install a new rom.
Thanks for reading! I can post more information if needed.
I "fixed" it by flashing a JB kernel and ROM... For some reason, even after switching to the original kernel from the .ftf file it would still stay at max. I'm now using lupus JB v8 and paranoid android and all seems to be well.
Hopefully gaming won't be too bad. x)
