Just flashed CM10 Alpha 3 2.6 Kernel version and I have come across the apparently well known auto brightness problem.
Is there a fix for this yet? Is this fault present in the 3.0 kernel version?
Thanks.

Ah that's why it doesn't work. I managed to get the brightness toggle to show an 'A' all the time and assumed that auto brightness was stuck on. I then searched the forum and found threads about this happening with other devices and took it that this was a common problem with CM10.
Thanks for the help.

No problem
Our wonder doesn't support auto brightness that's is why you got stuck on it.
to fix it you need enable the brightness control under/above the toggles and un-tick the auto brightness.
next time remove that option so that you won't get stuck

I had the autobrightness problem too. *somehow* it became activated, and I couldn't find a way to DEactivate it. I tried every single "settings" option I could think of, and nothing worked.
I asked a similar question to you (on this forum) and eventually I got an answer that said if I installed an app that controlled brightness then I could disable auto....it was suggested that I try "widgetsoid" or "battery doctor".....both (as it turns out) do what I wanted.
Why was I so bothered about autobrightness?
With it enabled I couldn't swipe left or right across the top of the screen to manually adjust brightness, with auto disabled I could.....

Sad that our phone doesn't have a light sensor, auto brightness would be so helpful...

Hmmmm, I did notice there was a bug with auto-brightness causing it to turn itself off randomly.
Will try it, see how it goes. Cheers.
This was my problem too. Thanks for the solution!

You need to turn on auto screen brightness, setting the value (ie turning it off) causes the keyboard light not to come on.

Thanks very much. That was it.
This is NOT solved.
This is not solved. When you turn off auto brightness, it works until you open or close the keyboard and then it stops working again. Can someone post a fix?
I installed cm9 after using cm7 and cant get the four buttons on the phone to light up. They are accessible but not illuminated. has anyone else encountered this problem.
Also I was wondering if the Cm7 uses more battery than cm9
You have to use auto brightness.
cm9 illumination
If you mean display auto brightness ok but when I'm outside I can't see the screen...guess ibhave to toggle back and forth. I had switched back to cm7. In your opinion is 9 worth changing to. It seems like in 7 everything is working pretty well.
Thank you for the reply

Ive been using the dinc2 since last July and I got used to the buttons to the point that I noticed they didn't light up, but until I saw this post, I never considered it a "problem". Since I knew where they were and didn't need to see them to use them. If they ever do "fix" this issue I hope they allow for a settings option to keep them turned off. I actually enjoy them off, in my mind its just one more security feature. I know when my wife tries to use my phone she needs to see them, and since recently rooting to CM9 I don't want her bricking my phone. Because of the unlit buttons she has stopped using my phone (she uses some cheap AT&T phone, refuses to switch to Verizon). Just throwing my opinion in the mix. Thanks for the post as well I wasn't sure it was intentional or not.

I believe in the advanced brightness settings under CMSettings you can do just that. Whenever I run a CM rom, I always go to the brightness settings under edit Other Levels and set all the softkey values on the far right column to 255 so they're always the same brightness and look nice. I like the sheen they have, but I can only see it when they're close to full brightness.
If you did the opposite, set all the values to 0 and then click Save and Apply Values at the top of that screen, they should, theoretically, never turn on.
Thank you ....as I am new to a rooted phone and this forum I didn't know those adjustments were available...learn something new everyday ......
Does cm9 drain the battery alot quicker or is it unnoticeable

Unfortunately, I can't answer that question for you, as my phone doesn't like our ICS builds. Until we get a leaked official kernel and some source, I'm SOL.

Where exactly are these settings? Running CM7 with the same problem as the OP and can't find it anywhere. Edit: found the settings and putting them all at 255 didn't do anything. Any other ideas?
Hi,
I have noticed that sometimes the auto screen rotation doesn't work anymore. I have tried to disable and enable again the screen rotation icon but it doesnt help. The only way to restore the screen rotation is to reboot my Note2.
It happens every time after having used a few days my device.
Any idea what could be the reason for this bug?
I am using a stock Rom with root.
Smart rotation is off.

Yes and every trick stopped working.
I have installed the app "Ultimate Rotation control" . With this app, I can force applications to rotate but it doesn't
work when the rotation is set to "auto" ( of course until I reboot)

Me too.
I think but I am not sure that the bug appeared after I have flashed a Perseus Kernel (I see that you have also
a Perseus kernel)
Maybey i found the problem
I maybey found the problem for the screen rotation glich!
I've done my reboots and taking the battery out etc...but after a while the problem kept returning!
Now....i've been wondering around on some forums and i found and read that they have the same issues after the 4.1.2 update!
So.....i tried all the apps on my phone.....exept one!...YOUTUBE!
I have uninstalled youtube and also turned it OFF in the aplication manager!
rebooted my phone!...and gues what?.....my note 2 is running like sunshine and no screen rotation problems! (knock on wood)
Sometimes when you put like a..news app on...some news apps also use Youtube for a movie to show you whats happening wright?
So if you didnt used youtube but did lool at your news app..youtube gets activated without you knowing it!
And then...also yhe screen rotation glitch returned!
Since i put toutube off.....problem GONNE!
But then again.im not a specialist!...im using:
baseband: N7100XXDLK7
Version 4,1,2
Kernel: 3.0.31-679347
I have a unbranded phone!
But ive read on forums that this is a problem for ALL THE NOTE 2's after the update!
Greets and help yourselff
Mike.
Tick auto display brightness and it will rotate!
I too got the same problem some times back. And along with that the network was also not getting detected. Some of my friend told that the network IS is gone. But I went to the service station and the software up gradation makes it alright.

Did we ever figure out a real fix for this? Was the true cause of the problem ever even isolated? I am aware of the "auto brightness trick", but have also heard about fumbling around with the multi window feature or opening the dialer to "unlock" it.

Anyone else finding autobrightness for the LCD to be essentially useless?
I can be in my room with the lights off at night, and it never seems to turn itself down.

I just rooted my phone. Used Android Commander, and changed the thermald.conf file. Here's a guide.
