Anyone else finding autobrightness for the LCD to be essentially useless?
I can be in my room with the lights off at night, and it never seems to turn itself down.

Yup had that issue with lg firmware. I'm on CM mod nod now, works much better.

I just rooted my phone. Used Android Commander, and changed the thermald.conf file. Here's a guide.
Works awesome.

I'm also running Andromadus v13 but the light works as it should.

You need to turn on auto screen brightness, setting the value (ie turning it off) causes the keyboard light not to come on.

Thanks very much. That was it.
This is NOT solved.
This is not solved. When you turn off auto brightness, it works until you open or close the keyboard and then it stops working again. Can someone post a fix?
I installed cm9 after using cm7 and cant get the four buttons on the phone to light up. They are accessible but not illuminated. has anyone else encountered this problem.
Also I was wondering if the Cm7 uses more battery than cm9
You have to use auto brightness.
cm9 illumination
If you mean display auto brightness ok but when I'm outside I can't see the screen...guess ibhave to toggle back and forth. I had switched back to cm7. In your opinion is 9 worth changing to. It seems like in 7 everything is working pretty well.
Thank you for the reply

Toggling auto brightness on and off solves it. Just tinker with it..

Ive been using the dinc2 since last July and I got used to the buttons to the point that I noticed they didn't light up, but until I saw this post, I never considered it a "problem". Since I knew where they were and didn't need to see them to use them. If they ever do "fix" this issue I hope they allow for a settings option to keep them turned off. I actually enjoy them off, in my mind its just one more security feature. I know when my wife tries to use my phone she needs to see them, and since recently rooting to CM9 I don't want her bricking my phone. Because of the unlit buttons she has stopped using my phone (she uses some cheap AT&T phone, refuses to switch to Verizon). Just throwing my opinion in the mix. Thanks for the post as well I wasn't sure it was intentional or not.

I believe in the advanced brightness settings under CMSettings you can do just that. Whenever I run a CM rom, I always go to the brightness settings under edit Other Levels and set all the softkey values on the far right column to 255 so they're always the same brightness and look nice. I like the sheen they have, but I can only see it when they're close to full brightness.
If you did the opposite, set all the values to 0 and then click Save and Apply Values at the top of that screen, they should, theoretically, never turn on.
Thank you ....as I am new to a rooted phone and this forum I didn't know those adjustments were available...learn something new everyday ......
Does cm9 drain the battery alot quicker or is it unnoticeable

Unfortunately, I can't answer that question for you, as my phone doesn't like our ICS builds. Until we get a leaked official kernel and some source, I'm SOL.

Where exactly are these settings? Running CM7 with the same problem as the OP and can't find it anywhere. Edit: found the settings and putting them all at 255 didn't do anything. Any other ideas?

Display/automatic back light/edit other levels.....make sure "buttons" isn't set on 0. If so, stock is 256...save and apply. Make sure after doing this you are set to automatic brightness.
If this doesn't work there is a good chance the hardware itself is damaged

Only thing is after a reboot, still have to toggle auto-brightness on and off, then it's fine
Hey guys,
hope someone can help me.
I've the feeling that my light sensor might be damaged.
The setting is on automatic light regulation and i've the feeling that the
screen is very dark. Is there any possiblity to check if the light sensor still works fine?
I've already put my finger for a few seconds on it and nothing changes.
I also read in the guide that the screen should wake up when you wipe over the switched off device.
Unfortunately nothing happens when i do so.
Thanks a lot for your support

Autobrightness has been too dark since the S2. The S3 also suffers from that bug as does the Note 2. Unless Samsung fixes it with a update you`ll have to wait for a hack and root the phone to be able to change it.

Thanks a lot for this information. I didn't know this, as it's my first Samsung mobile.
But my impression is that it worked fine, and unfortunately the note 2 fell down at weekend and
now i've the feeling that the regulation is not correct since then. Is there any test to try if the light sensor still works?
And normally the switched off screen should wake up when i swipe over the screen, right? Because it doesn't work, or is it necessary to set up some settings?
Thanks a lot again for the help!

I think there's a light sensor test in the service menu (can't remember the dialer code to access it though) and for the phone to wake when you swipe over the screen you need to enable "Quick Glance" in Settings > Motion

Anyone else experiencing a really long delay when you try to wake your phone up? About 70% of the time when I wake my phone up to just use my phone, it has a bad delay. Most of the time it will take around 7 - 10 seconds for the screen to turn on.
I am stock and un-rooted. I have gone into the stock recovery and cleared the cache partition a couple of times, but that doesn't help. I am really hoping for S-off soon. I'm hoping that a custom rom can fix it.
I'm also experiencing this same problem, drives me insane. I'm hoping that maybe the forthcoming 5.1 update will address that issue.
I've never experienced this. I'm stock still. Kinda sounds like a runway app causing the problem.
Never saw this on launch os or 5.1. Have you tried running it without apps for a while?
Last night I disabled instagram. It seemed to fix the problem so far. I don't use it much anyway. My battery stat still shows it as number 2 on the list. I just uninstalled it. Maybe it will fix some issues.
I have this too...but I'd say only about 30 percent of the time. I use the double tap to wake aout it certainly does not all the time.
Mine does it sometimes. I don't know if it's a delay because I push the power button again and it comes on. Another thing that drives me up the wall is that the screen doesn't wake up after taking the phone away from my ear during a call sometimes. I'll have to push the power button to turn the screen on.

This sounds like either a case problem, or proximity sensor.
You can test the sensor in htc advantage app.

I just tried it, it passed the tests a few times. I have a spigen neo hybrid so it doesn't come even close to the sensor. Who knows.

Mine doesn't wake up after a call sometimes. It just started doing the delay thing again. I wonder if it has anything to do with memory leak on 5.0? I may disable a couple games I downloaded this week and see if that fixes it.
