Hi, uh i was wondering if i could use my sprint s3 in india using google voice, cause i was looking at the rates (2 cents per minute) which are way cheaper than sprints, and they both work seamlessy together so i was wondering if i could use google voice without sprints international roaming charges. please answer fast, leaving soon, Thanks!

First of all, Google Voice is not a standalone VOIP service. It is a call management and forwarding service/feature. It is not like standalone VOIP services like Skype or Vonage or Net2Phone etc.
In India, if you connect your Sprint S3 to a WiFi network, the Google Voice app will notify you of missed calls, voicemails, let you send and receive SMS etc.
If you use a app like GrooveIP you could use ur google voice with it and not pay any international fees if your connected to wifi..

I have a question about using voip apps while in India.
I use SparePhone to make calls over wifi on my DroidX. If I take it to India, would I be able to receive calls placed to my Google number?
Has anyone experienced any problems while placing calls this way from India to USA?
I'm not sure if I should just get a burner while I'm there - just ten days.
Thanks y'all!

Here is the deal I have a friend that has Verizon. She has unlimited texting from Verizon to Verizon phones. Since we have sprint phones is there a app that would allow you to text on the Verizon network on order for them to use unlimited messages

The only thing I can think of would be google voice.

haha, set your phone to roam only. more than likely you'll send a txt over verizons network.
Problem is the carrier has a block of numbers that the fcc assigns to them and the system would recognize your number as a sprint number not a vrz number.

What plan do you have OP? AFAIK, the EVO requires an "Everything" plan and those typically include unlimited text messaging to any network.
Sorry OP, but texting doesn't work like that. It will ALWAYS be done through the carrier your phone uses for calls. The only way to get around this is email-to-text (send an email to your target's email-txt number, like [email protected]) or to use Google Voice for texts.

I am getting tired of this 3g signal going out and I ha r restart phone to get signal back. Is there any way of using wifi for phone and txt.

Yes. Use Google Voice and Groove IP. Sprint lets you use voip service so you can use your own #.

ChompSMS can send text through Wifi
I moved two miles outside of Sprint's "coverage area", so when I'm home (as not to constantly roam), I bought an Obi110 and hooked it up through Google Voice. You can then hook up a regular house phone, and answer my cell calls through that. Still receive my texts and calls on my cell through wifi at home with Google Voice also.
This sounds like a good option for someone living on the edge of the network
sprint has a device that goes through your broadband internet and rebroadcasts cell signal

Which would do what, exactly, for this problem? The issue is the phone losing CELL signal. If the device rebroadcasts a CELL signal via the Internet, nothing will be improved. The OP was asking if they could make calls/send texts via Internet.
To the OP: Not unless you want to use a new phone number. If you don't mind a new number, then there are alternatives. Otherwise, no.
Sprint lets you use your own # for Google voice and groove IP works off your Google voice account to make wifi calls. I use it every day.

As long as your wifisignal strength is decent its great. I believe they have a free option now in the market if you'd like to try it

Yes, they do have a free version in the market that allows over wifi only. The paid version allows you to use over 3g/4g. I haven't tried it over 3g/4g yet but wifi works great.
I got it free on Amazon a few moons ago. The early versions were pretty meh, but the last updates work great over 3/4G and WIFI.
Perfect app.

Hey guys I was wondering what apps you use for Google Voice integration on your E4GT?
Last night I was bored and since my E4GT isn't activated on Sprint and I have a dumb Verizon phone I wanted to make calls with my E4GT.
I downloaded Groove IP Lite which seems to integrate Google Voice very well. I was able to call my Verizon number without any trouble.
Then I downloaded the Vonage Mobile app and during setup I used my Verizon number and it appears I am using that number to make free outgoing calls to US numbers. I don't receive many calls so I don't know if I'll receive them with the app. The sound quality is great since I'm using my Wi-Fi at home.

Groove IP is great.
Here is a app that intergrates GV SMS into the stock/go sms app's. There is a trial version available.

Looks good but the Google Voice app handles text messaging just fine. I'm more interested in calling.
My E4GT isn't activated and I want to be able to use it while I have a Wi-Fi connection.

I found that out after using it. It's just cool that I can use my Verizon number on the E4GT even though I don't have it activated.

Any one using any phone related apps ? ie Google voice or Vonage...
I have the 10.0 and will be switching to the 8.0 soon, I'm curious how people are taking advantage of the phone capability.

I use google voice. It works exactly the same as on my phone. I would recommend using Vonage (free) for voice over data instead of grooveip or talkatone. The quality seems much better, and you can use it even if you have an obi device installed at home as a free house phone. But I have not used Vonage on my tablet, only on my phone.

Hey, "Kisrita" you are right that Vonage provides much better services than any other. I use it in my tablet as well as phone.
I assume you have to be a vonnage customer to use this app, or can anyone use it?
thanks

I'm not a Vonage customer and I'm using it. They give something like 3500 minutes to use for free, and my calls are received showing my Google voice number. I don't know if there are some other perks for Vonage customers. I make very few calls so I haven't really looked into it further.
