I am getting tired of this 3g signal going out and I ha r restart phone to get signal back. Is there any way of using wifi for phone and txt.

Yes. Use Google Voice and Groove IP. Sprint lets you use voip service so you can use your own #.

ChompSMS can send text through Wifi
I moved two miles outside of Sprint's "coverage area", so when I'm home (as not to constantly roam), I bought an Obi110 and hooked it up through Google Voice. You can then hook up a regular house phone, and answer my cell calls through that. Still receive my texts and calls on my cell through wifi at home with Google Voice also.
This sounds like a good option for someone living on the edge of the network
sprint has a device that goes through your broadband internet and rebroadcasts cell signal

Which would do what, exactly, for this problem? The issue is the phone losing CELL signal. If the device rebroadcasts a CELL signal via the Internet, nothing will be improved. The OP was asking if they could make calls/send texts via Internet.
To the OP: Not unless you want to use a new phone number. If you don't mind a new number, then there are alternatives. Otherwise, no.
Sprint lets you use your own # for Google voice and groove IP works off your Google voice account to make wifi calls. I use it every day.

Why can't I receive or send mms when WiFi is connected. I didn't have this issue on sprint. It sucks cause I have to turn off WiFi and then it has to connect to edge then eventually on 4g before i can get or send my mms quicker. I have to use WiFi a lot on this device so I don't go over my cap so I need to have WiFi on at home and work. Very frustrating.

This happens on and off on my Amaze. I just think it doesnt work that well in general with tmo
My wife can't download mms on WiFi with at&t
I have the same problem with Verizon.
MMS are the texts with data right? Yeah I noticed I can't send with just wifi.
Normal text are fine.
AT&T btw for the XDA app users.
Edit: I noticed you said at all when I reread it. I can send em fine with wifi enabled but I have to have mobile network enabled as well.
Maybe this is more common than i thought.
MultiMediaMessages needs your data access to send. WiFi will not work.
Happened on my cousin's AT&T galaxy s ii when he didn't enable data

You youre right that it does need data but I think what its supposed to do is switch to mobile network real quick and send/receive then revert back to wifi. The issue is its not doing this on my Tmobile s3.
Edit: Ran a few more test. Had my gf send me 2 mms while I was on wifi and I was able to recieve 1. But other I couldnt receive. It may have something to do with my data connection as I get 50% edge. I have a feeling that when its on edge while wifi is on that it cant DL the mms but on 4g while wifi is on it will work. I need to run a test outdoor where I get full 4g but still connect to wifi.
Same issue here, on simple mobile, I will assume is GS3 MMS bug and when you do receive MMS, it's pretty small
Just use gmail.
People really need to start using email in lieu of mms, the pictures don't get distorted, it sends/receives faster, handles much larger files
I don't know why people even use mms anymore. Everything should be done in email.

Life is about choices, you like email and others prefer MMS, we are using GS3 & others prefer what they like. Email, MMS, WhatsApp, ChatOn etc is matter of preference

Yes, you're right. Life is about choices.
Just like people can "choose" to drive 3,000 miles instead of taking a flight. Or they can "choose" to ship via snail mail instead of UPS.
Doesn't mean their choices and/or preferences aren't ineffective or moronic, or that people want to hear them whine about the "choices" they make.
Aside from that, it doesn't look like it's a "choice" on Wifi. So you can choose to send an email and be done with it, or choose to whine and stomp your feet on xda which has virtually no effect on the situation other than rounding up other whiners.
It's like people complaining about using Blu-Ray and complaining they can't stream VHS to their phone

Nope. Stock rooted. I will tell you that there are times when it won't send our receive mms or sms, but if I restart it works again. It never works 100%.

Touch wiz or stock 4.0.x based
Jedi kight 6 works great and the wifi calling starts quickly.

I'm lost but interested lol
Scratch that. It calls from a different number. I've used that app before. It's affective but I want people to know it's me calling. Guess I'm just stuck with going with a ROM that has WiFi calling.

Any TMo touch wiz based ROM will work.
Following the various instructions around the web, I can't seem to set up SIP dialing and I think it's disabled by my provider (Telus SII X using stock Telus 4.0.3 from Kies). Can anyone verify that this is the case before I resort to modding my folks' T989D using a baked ROM? I need a setup that's rock solid and doesn't need flashing a new ROM-of-the-week or them pissing around with their phone (with me inevitably on the other line guiding them through it - I'm no expert myself). Thanks!
the vonage app is FREE and it calls from your number over WIFI or 4G data... you can also text from there too, for free, from your number...
Hey guys I was wondering what apps you use for Google Voice integration on your E4GT?
Last night I was bored and since my E4GT isn't activated on Sprint and I have a dumb Verizon phone I wanted to make calls with my E4GT.
I downloaded Groove IP Lite which seems to integrate Google Voice very well. I was able to call my Verizon number without any trouble.
Then I downloaded the Vonage Mobile app and during setup I used my Verizon number and it appears I am using that number to make free outgoing calls to US numbers. I don't receive many calls so I don't know if I'll receive them with the app. The sound quality is great since I'm using my Wi-Fi at home.

Groove IP is great.
Here is a app that intergrates GV SMS into the stock/go sms app's. There is a trial version available.

I'm running the stock T-Mobile rom on my GS4. But sometimes I've noticed that when I'm in areas that don't have a data connection for example in basement but do have voice signal, text messages won't send. Not MMS, just SMS messages. Is there anyway I can take care of this? My Nexus 4 would send messages even without a data connection. Why does the GS4 not receive or send any?

SMS does not depend on data. Strange that you have voice signal but can't send sms as they go through the same cell towers.
Yeah that was what I was wondering. Why wouldn't it send SMS if there is no data connection. Can anyone else with the stock T-Mobile ROM confirm?

Yes, the only modification is MMS over WiFi but that should have anything to do with sms (plus I turned off WiFi and mobile data).
How's the phone signal when it's happening? (I don't think sms need that strong a signal however)
I just tried it, turned off data and sent a sms and it worked. I'm not sure why it doesn't work when in specific places where I have voice signal but no data.

Been having a similar problem on stock. Full bars but no data for long stretches of time at places that I've always had data . Really odd but I'm not sure if it's rom related or not.

I was just visiting my dad's side of the family in Wisconsin a few weeks back. The town I was in I literally had very very little service, with no data at all and was still able to text perfectly fine.
Hey all, I'm looking to try out some 3rd party sms apps. Not in love with the stock one and Hangouts can't send/receive MMS when I'm connected to wifi.
Anybody know of any SMS apps that MMS works while connected to WIFI like the stock app?
(posting this in general rather than Q&A in case others are looking for the same thing in the future).
Thanks all
Are you asking for an app that sends MMS via WiFi? I don't think that's possible. When I'm connected to WiFi on stock app it uses 4g to send MMS and I have wifi calling on too.

I think I confused myself lol. Okay, so normally my WiFi calling is set to cellular preferred so most of the time I have cell signal when connected to WiFi. When I'm on WiFi and send a MMS the 4g logo pops up so it never sends MMS on WiFi or at least not when I have a signal. Was op trying to ask for an app that'll send MMS over WiFi calling when he has no cell signal? Also, I think WiFi calling can send regular SMS when there's no cell signal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

when youre connected to wifi calling your signal bars should be empty with an x signifying you have no mobile radio. wifi calling handles calls/sms/mms. and any 3rd party messaging app other than hangouts should also work the same way since they actually use the stock messaging app still.

Oh gotcha. It's gotten much better where I live. Now when I make calls a lot of times it says HD in the bottom right. Do you know what that means? At first I thought maybe it was volte but I think that's only implemented in a handful of cities

HD means HD calling. T-Mo has it in places and it supposedly makes call quality much better. I havent seen it here yet so I cant comment but Ive read tech site reviews that say its legit. I think Sprint has it too.
According to the T-Mo website HD calls are nationwide now. If thats the case and we have it here, it sucks. Call quality is awful here, echoes and random noise during calls.
