I've tried every JB ROM and haven't noticed any real difference in the volume level. They all seemed about on par with the stock OS volume level. I have pretty sensitive hearing (not the best though lol) and would definetely take notice to a volume discrency like that.
Oh wait.....your talking about fine tuning audio settings. Disregard this lol

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why audio volume is so low on CM9 ROMS at least compared to stock and CM7 ROMS? Does anyone know of a way to increase them? I've tried Beats Audio, which definitely improves the quality of the sound, but not really the volume. I'm talking about the speaker by the way...headphone audio is fine.

Riddle me this: how is it that an application like "Lookout Mobile Security" can make my phone scream with a loud volume but when I go to play some media or music on my Nexus it is so soft? What is "Lookout..." doing that no other app can replicate in getting a decent volume?
You must remember, its playing a sound designed to be loud and heard, not a low quality song.

I have noticed when I first got my GN that the speaker volume was pretty weak for videos/youtube/music... whatever really. I use high quality mp3 (320 bit rate) for all my music btw.
There are some apps to help with this of course.
1) Volume+ works great and would fix your problems of low volume alone.
2) If you're really into modding your phone. franco.Kernel Also has options to increase volume and improve sound quality.
I use both of them and the sound quality on my GN speakers is what I prefer now. Sounds great. I know it sucks to have to buy apps to improve something that should be granted out of the box for such a high end phone but it is what it is.
All Galaxy Nexus kernels have sound boost in them.

I do have volume + (free) and it does nothing I can tell, to enhance the sound,,, but If I purchase the app, you say there is a difference?
Volume+ definitely works with the paid version. Or I just use equalizer which works and is free.

I have the paid one, so I can't speak to the free one. I just set the speaker volume to +10 on my GN and it sounds really stronger then stock.
Also description on Free:
A Cyanogen Mod 7 or MIUI ROM is HIGHLY recommended. Running this app on a Stock ROM/Kernel may result in it not working, being far too quiet, or getting even quieter. PLEASE don't comment or rate badly if you are on a Stock ROM as this is most likely the problem.

I have noticed the newer AOKP builds 37/38/39 have much louder sound. Not sure if it is the AOKP Build or the new version of Lean Kernel, but I did notice my alarm is much louder than before.
I've flashed both Ice Cold Sandwich and Jellytime. Love both the roms, but noticed the speaker sound (ringtone/notification) is not as loud as with the GB sense roms. The sound is also quite "tinny" sounding too.
I was not sure if this was typical of these roms because they were never officially release by HTC, issue with drivers, hardware etc?
Anyone else noticed this?
Thanks.
Yes official ROMs do tend to have a better sound thn the unofficial ones. U can use volume+ from the market, it will solve our problem.

I've noticed this as well, poor sound or metallic voice sound with the newer roms. Tried many and just decided to stick with a GB rom, afterall why have a phone that you can't talk on??
I don't find the voice sound a problem, it's the speaker sound (ringtones etc) that seems quiet and tinny sounding.
I just flashed the last stable CM7 on the phone and the sound quality/volume was just as poor. As CM7 is not based on a HTC gingerbread rom, it seems this problem is an issue with roms not based on HTC gingerbread/ics/jb releases.
Just watched something on Youtube and I noticed the difference, the volume was much quieter and tinny sounding compared to ARHD (based on HTC rom).
It's not a big deal, but the sound quality and volume is considerably poorer in customs roms, where as a rom that is based on HTC rom has much better sound quality and volume.

There is a flashable zip file for beats audio. search for it in the xda forum n check if it works for u as i couldnt make it work. If u concerned with low volume use volume+ but on cyanogenmod 7 use custom settings on the app otherwise u will hv a distorted sound

After flashing a few more roms, it seems the volume and overall sound quality is considerably better in Sense based roms. AOSP Jellybean and ICS roms, the sound is tinny and quieter.
I flashed two Sense 4.0 ICS roms and the sound quality and volume was just as good as ARHD Sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms. I flashed Ice Cold Sandwich and Jellytime, both had the tinny sound and lower volume.
Installing a volume+ app (or similar) seems pretty pointless, it just distorts the sound even more by upping the treble?
I wonder what Sense does to make the sound much better than a Sense-less phone?

Has anyone noticed the increase in the sound output after JB update? I have seen a massive improvement and the music quality has also improved drastically. Bass is also impressive now. The headphones are now blasting with music... Please share your thoughts...
I have also noticed that the browser does not reload after reopening while multi tasking. These two are the best updates for me in JB...
So multi-tasking is for real this time.
How about music chopping with default player. Haven't read a solution about it before?
Am on the music player for past 2 hrs now, and haven't had any choppiness at all. Although this was an issue even I faced intermittently.
I was also experiencing choppiness in the default music player and Youtube before the update. Now I haven't experienced them so far..
The music player has just become so awesome!! HTC has managed to make gapless play onto to the new update,,which is something that music lovers love the most... And the beats audio equaliser has been redefined,,and music is more loud as well as sharp... I could hear even the smallest of music with my headphones on... Even it did some magic with the speaker.. even though it doesn't have a built in amplifier like the 8x,, it is giving more loudness than before.. HTC has given the best update till yet... Hoping for more..

I personally like using Volume +. Has worked great for me on every ROM but CM10. didn't seem to make a difference on it :silly:
I have noticed on alot of threads that alot of people like PowerAmp. I myself have never tried it. The is also Awesome beats. Its like Beats audio. Search for it. I would post a link but Im kinda short of time to find it myself. Good luck sir.
PowerAmp is just a music player with a nice built in equalizer, but because it is an EQ, and does not affect tye actual oower output of the hardware, it will eventually cause distortion. I use PA, but I keep the EQ in check and do not use it to make it louder.
Volume+ has always been a terrible thing for me, causing audio skipping and distortion.
Beats is an EQ, and I think it sounds like garbage.
What we need is something like Voodoo sound, like we had on the Epic4G. It is a kernel modification that works at the hardware level to increase power output.
