LG Optimus G - Android 4.1.2, Throttling, Benchmarks, first look. - LG Optimus G (International)

Today in Warsaw Arkadia gallery I had the opportunity to test both Nexus'a 4, as well as the flagship model of the Korean manufacturer LG Optimus G. As for the benchmarks, the results for both phones are very similar to each other. Both models present themselves really well and are solidly constructed. Glass back cover I give a lot of charm to these devices. Liquidity GUI on both systems, it's very fast. The new version of the overlay from LG is really pleasing to the eye and introduces a number of useful features. I spoke to the consulate LG and he admitted that the company had problems with updates, but with the new version of the overlay to appear in future updates much faster. The main difference was in Optimus G 32GB built-in memory, and a 13 Megapixel sensor. A positive surprise for me is the version of the. G Swift working under the control of android 4.1.2. Review Guidelines in all what I could see, was a version of android 4.0.3. First impressions after using both of these phones are very positive. LG has done a good job.
Benchmarks:
GLBenchmark 2.5, Quadrant, Antutu

Now I would like to discuss the thing that disturbed me personally. I also noticed the presence of the Optimus Throttling'u G. Throttling in Google smartphone has been discussed more than once. The basis of this that the fault lies in the side of the drivers, was to compare the operation of a processor in Optimus G. I am the first person who managed to do Stability Test on this unit. The heart of the phone is quad-core Snapdragon S4 clocked at 1512MHz Pro. Unfortunately, there is a lower clock speed on both models, and the temperature difference between the two devices is small. Clock decline occurred almost immediately after starting the test to 1134MHz 1512MHz. After 20 minutes of operation the temperature was 47.8 C. So far it is not known whether the fault lies with the system design, the same processor from Qualcomm.

What is your opinion on this?
Original post is in Polish. I translated it in google translate. I'll try to improve it later

The only problem driving me crazy is short battery life.

I spoke by phone with LG consultant. The company booth will be available until December 24. This time I can do additional testing. The most imortant thing is that, optimus g have Android 4.1.2

No its not, no 4.1 update yet.
LG promised to roll it out before 2013, but they always speaking in that way.

[Q] LG Optimus G Series Dev Support

Hi LG guys,
I have general concerns with the amount of dev support that the LG OG series receives. Currently, I am using a Motorola Atrix 4G and I just RECENTLY unlocked the bootloader and rooted it this past weekend and felt a sense of great accomplishment when I completed these tasks after hitting several road blocks. I have to say, I was rather impressed with the amount of relevant information, help, and guides floating around on the Internet a good 1.5 years after its release. I was also impressed with the fact some developers are still working to improve builds.
Unfortunately, I feel a compelled to upgrade my phone since the Atrix 4G does not support LTE. I've been looking at viable options and refuse to go with Apple because I have always loved the Android OS and its possibilities. In fact, I'm even more in love with it now, after being able to put JB on my Atrix.
I did little research and narrowed down my desired upgrade choices to:
Samsung Galaxy S4
LG Optimus G Pro or G2
To be honest, I was set on getting the SGS4 this coming April, however I recently learned that it's likely the S4 will have minimal CM support (if any) and I just can't imagine working with buggy builds for an extended period of time. (I hear the SGS3 still doesn't have a stable CM based build)
So aside from the babble, I was wondering:
1. Is the LG dev community well developed and established? (Might be stupid question to some people, sorry)
2. Does the LG OG line have a stable CM based build?
3. Does LG support the dev community or does it take a Samsung approach (asshole approach) ?
4. How has development and support been for older phones?
5. Does LG commonly make two versions of their flagship phone(s)? [I.E. Samsungs ship with either Snapdragon or Exynos] And which version usually receives a greater amount of developer attention?
6. What's the build quality like on LG OG series? Plastic like Samsung or what? Personal opinions are very welcome.
If anyone else has any info that they feel would further allow me to make a well informed decision, please share it. I know that smartphones are released frequently these days, but I'm still in search for a smartphone that can last me at least 3-5 years (silly I know, but I had a Moto RAZR flip phone forever and loved it). I have yet to find the one ;/
1.The community is given by the users.I guess there is no point in developing for no one, right? So, if there will be many G users, the devs will come too. Right now there a few guys working(thanks for that),but the G(at least the E975 i have) is quite new and it takes time to start things.
2.No, CM is not officially implemented yet.It depends somewhat on 1.
3.Can't really answer that, but,as far as i know, LG is more open to devs than samsung.
4.Why don't you look yourself?Search button is a miracle.
5.No, LG makes only 1 flagship, with differences only in camera, storage and lte modem. There is G with 8mpx,16gb storage+microsd slot and G with 13mpx camera,32gb storage and no micro sd slot. But the CPU/GPU/RAM is identical.
6.G is way better than Samsung's plastics.

I thought about it, but I wanted to get as much feedback as possible.
Personally, if I was going to get any phone right now, I would get the HTC one, with the optimus as my second choice. It will likely have more users and more developers due to greater availability. It has superior specifications, a better screen, better build quality, and supposedly better software. Our phone is great too, just not as new or popular. The glass feels great.

One and optimus are different categories.full hd display vs hd display.compare the one with g pro,s4,xperia z.optimus is top android at medium price.at least here at orange romania, the 975 comes with a super docking station included(LG ND5521).only the dock costs 120 pounds(more than 200 dollars).i payed for my g 300 euros, which a great deal.i could've get the s3 cheaper, but you can't compare them.
I think lg got an unfair bad reputation, since the time lg made phones like chocolate,shine...they were crappy phone, always having issues.but google made the right call and let lg make the nexus4.
Basically,our g is an improved n

I think you should include in your basket HTC ONE (M7) and Xperia Z.
Apart of that.
1. Is the LG dev community well developed and established? (Might be stupid question to some people, sorry) (Not yet, there is a few phones on the market, maybe in the future - People dont like LG, )
2. Does the LG OG line have a stable CM based build? (Not yet, but it will)
3. Does LG support the dev community or does it take a Samsung approach (asshole approach) ? (Neither of them does, but LG seems to be more open about it)
4. How has development and support been for older phones? (Its a market dependent, so, if your phone have been sold a lot, it'll be supported here in XDA, if not, dont expect too much from LG)
5. Does LG commonly make two versions of their flagship phone(s)? [I.E. Samsungs ship with either Snapdragon or Exynos] And which version usually receives a greater amount of developer attention? (LGOG has a lot of model, but basicaly they are pretty much the same, all of them has same processor and screen)
6. What's the build quality like on LG OG series? Plastic like Samsung or what? Personal opinions are very welcome. (My girl has a SGS3 and I'm used to handling it, LG for sure has better built material)
cheers

I wont answer all of your questions individually but If I was to buy a phone in the next months, I would go for Sony Xperia ZL. Sony was named OEM of the year for developper support by XDA staff. They have a decent track report of supporting 2011 onward phones.
I also came from a Atrix. It died from the infamous wifi-bootloop-bug-of-death. The LG Optimus G Pro is a Phablet and it might be too large for you. The S4 will likelly get poor developper support since most Cyanogen staff lifted their nose at it.
As of now, the Optimus G dev community is ok but since the phone have yet to be released in Europe, Not many people are working on it. There also is lots different versions of the same phone with some incompatibility. We have CM for the Canadian version but it's not official. Far from it.
Good luck
As some owners says, the new xperia good on paper and terrible in life.
Crappy screen, performance, battery life, a lot of bugs including auto bricks.

LG Gx - same device with jelly bean - Rage

i read an article that LG is gonna come out with a new device called LG - Gx wich has the exact same specs as the LG g pro with a little less PPI (401ppi) but with the new jelly bean OS ,
this is more than enough for anyone who has respect for his money to say no in the future to any LG cellular device,
money hungry company who gives a crap and puts even more crap on their costumers over time.

I'm just hoping it has dev support and we can somehow rip the ROM and run it on the G Pro seeing that most of the hardware is the same.
well it look like I was not right......it seem that lg have made the same phone then the g pro....

to be honest I don't understand much why the lg x have the same spec then the g pro?? the positive point is that we gonna problably be able to port his newest rom in our g pro.. otherwise it not gonna be in the category of "flagship" especialy in 2014...
Hopefully LG will update the G Pro alongside it when it releases, although it is weird that lg is releasing the same phone with just newer software...

They're saving a fortune on software updates since they never update anything. Probably cheaper to just release another device and hope the public buys it. After all, we bought the OG Pro, didn't we and knew full well that no updates would be released.
We can only hope to port its stock rom onto our phone.
Just read that moto G is already receiving the 4.4 update. And v r still on 4.1.2 :banghead:

I just want my G Pro to have the same vanilla stock kit Kat nexus rom like my n7 and n4 have. This stock LG rom sucks up too much memory.

The LGOGP has 2GB RAM, it's more than enough for running it lag free (mine running very smooth). With Android 4.3< things will be even better thanks to the new Trim function. From my experience 98% of the time the best rom for any device is based on its official release.
LG making a mistake in the long run not updating their devices.

[Q] F460 / Cat 6 worth it?

I originally bought a Nexus 4 when they were first released and I also have a Note 2 provided by work. I don't get on with Touchwiz on the Note 2 but the black and colors overall seem superior on the Note 2 verses the Nexus 4. My device is mainly used for web browsing, Sky News, Pulse News, Tapatalk, YouTube, XBMC, Facebook, Twitter, and Banking.
Whilst the Nexus 4 still performs well, and has been looked after, it's starting to show it's age a little in terms of performance and the recent Google updates seem to have ruined the battery. And I like the screen size of the Note 2. Taking that into consideration I came across the G3 and now it's 'upgrade' time, I've just got a One M8 which I'm selling to fund my G3.
I like the idea of the 2k display which I appreciate isn't fully supported at the moment but hopefully will be in the future. I've only just moved onto a 4G tariff with EE and whilst 4G iasn't massively important to me, having a device that's futureproof 'is'. I know that the 855 will work fine across the RR 4G spectrum, and whilst the LTE-A trial is only in London at the moment, I'm semi tempted by the LTE-A support that the F460 has so that I don't need to change handsets again once this is rolled out in the UK.
However, in the last few days I've come across the F460 / Cat 6 and taking onboard the upgrade to the Snapdragon 805, Adreno 440 and LTE-A, I'm starting to wonder if I should be buying of these devices instead.
I've read plenty about both devices and whilst the hardware differences between the two are only slight, I'm getting the impression that the F460 spec is what the G3 should have been released with originally so that it handles the display better, and provides better FPS when gaming.
I'm sure the FPS and overall performance could be improved by removing the rooting and removing the bloatware, but unfortunately I can't root as my Barclays banking app won't run on a rooted device - and currently there isn't a way around this. I'd love to have rooted my Nexus 4 as all my Android devices going back to the G1 were rooted, but when I started banking with Barclays I couldn't root any longer.
I appreciate that it's early days yet for both the 855 and the 460, and there will be tons of software improvements and enhancements to both in the future, I'm just interested to hear from people that have had both and whether they would recommend spending the extra ££. Particularly as I'm going to be into my next handset for the longhaul, gone are the days when I buy a new handset every 6 months.
Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated
I have a D850, F460S and I had a F400S. The F460S is faster than the other two but during normal use you don't really see it as much. I notice the better performance when I play games on my F460S over the SD801/Adreno 330. You made a mistake the SD805 has the Adreno 420 GPU not the 440. My benchmarks are lower on antutu than my other two G3's. I think this is because antutu isn't optimized for the SD805.
For your banking app did you ever try Root Cloaker which can hide root status from any app. It work for ISIS wallet on my ATT D850. I really enjoy my F460 once I removed all of the SKT installed apps and put Nova launcher on it the phone seemed better. I don't like bloatware so I always uninstall all of it upfront.
This from a novice but the search will help. Will Xposed RootCloak solve your banking issue? Regardless interested in any experience on the F460 and best to jump from D850 or wait for the G4 (hopefully bootloader unlocked) next year.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for my mistake regarding the GPU, I've been reading about this rather a lot the last few days and I think I got my numbers muddled up!
Did you notice your FPS go up on the D850 once you'd removed the bloatware? My reason for asking is that if you have a look at this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyIeupge_w4 - the G3 [presumably 850 / 855] doesn't seem to do as well as the others and has issues with lag. One of the reasons that makes me think going for the F460 might be better.
I've never tried Root Cloaker but I did see it mentioned somewhere today and I did some reading. The dev does comment on the Barclays banking app but it sounds like the app can still detect that the device is rooted, therefore the dev has marked it as 'TBD'. Thanks for the suggestion though :good:

Go for the F460, s805 is quite better than s801, with both FWs optimized it will be noticeable, and if you are not going to change it soon, it will worth the extra money.

The FPS can go up slightly if you go into the hidden menu and you enable dynamic refresh at 60FPS. The CPU still gets hotter on my D850 than it does on my F460. The SD801 does a good job at handling the 2K screen, but the SD805 just does it better with the Adreno 420 GPU.

Google Play app updates are slow or hang after 5.0.2 update

I have two VK810 tablets, and the v5.0.2 updates went OK, but occasionally one or both of the tablets will hang (or in one case finish overnight) about 1/2 through when updating a normal Google Play app. Tried:
Rebooting WiFi access points.
Turning off WiFI and using VZW 4G.
Rebooting tablets.
Hangs occur at the same point each time. Leads me to believe an Android 5.0.2 resource issue of some kind. My other Android tablets (v4.x) update just fine, as does my LG G3 on v5.0.1.
All Android OSes are rooted but otherwise stock.
Update: Two hours later, after running some errands, I came back and restarted the update on the 1st tablet. It quickly restarted the download and quickly finished. So, I started the updates on the 2nd tablet. It quickly downloaded and finished one update. It then started the second update, which paused for a few (ten?) seconds at exactly the same point as the 1st tablet hung previously on that app, and then finished a few seconds later.
Like I said, I've never seen this on any other Android device (and I've owned over a dozen).
OT comment: Five minutes after originally posting this message, I did a Google search, using the title of this message, thinking someone else might have experienced the same issue. To my surprise, my above message (title and text) was #5 in the result. To my further surprise, it was not an xda-developers.com site. FIVE MINUTES!!!
Wow. I thought I was going crazy, but I may be experiencing the same issue... Since 3 days ago, both my G Pad 8.3 and Nexus 5 have issues when updating or installing apps : it takes ages to complete ! I did not checked when it struggles exactly though...
It may also be related, but I have serious trouble with Google Play Services. If I change the DPI settings, many apps don't work anymore (I used to change DPi many times in the past, in the same way, without any problem) and the services stop working repeatedly.
Btw, the 2 devices are on 5.1.1. This issue occurs with different roms and kernel settings...
Because of ART, apps are supposed to take longer to install than before because before, they are compiled specifically for your device every time you ran it but with ART, it's compiled for your device when you install it.
Maybe this isn't all of the issue, but it's at least some of it.

2.5 GHz (when not overclocked) on the G3 vs 1.5 GHz on the VK810.4G. I believe 1.7 GHz on the other G Pad 8.3 variants.
Also, even though both are quad core, they're also different generation so the G3 processor is probably a lot more efficient than in the G Pad 8.3.
On my G3, I notice a significant increase in app installations and upgrades (especially larger apps) on Lollipop than on KitKat, but it's worth it overall IMHO.
I think it also depends on the ROM some.

Well, something weird is going on, because today both G Pad8 tablets (as identically configured as can be) needed to download the Titanium Backup update. The 1st tablet "hung" for a while after starting the download, and the 2nd one (started after the 1st one) breezed right through the download and install. A couple minutes later, the 1st one finished.

Well, I now see that the 2nd tablet (faster last time) is on Google Play v5.6.8 (as is the LG G3), and the 1st one is on v5.5.12. I've now updated Google Play on the 1st one; we'll see what happens on the next app update ...
Since weeks now, both my G Pad 8.3 and Nexus 5 have serious trouble downloading and updating Apps from Play Store. Especially when the screen is off. When I turn the screen on and/or open the Play Store, the downloads seem to go well. But if I let the screen go off, it's like downloads are paused...
This strange behaviour happens with all kinds of Roms : Stock, CM, AOSP...
I even tried on both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz wireless networks. No change...

Why not have cm 13 for lg gpro ??????
That´s the reason why my next phone will definitely be a Nexus...
Because our Cyanogenmod maintainer has not updated our phone's kernel (probably missing) and we don't have info on what google_msm kernel/CAF kernel repos or anything we need to update to MM..

There is Marshmallow for LG Optimus G (E975). Also there is Android 6 for Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One (M7) both on Snapdragon 600 so why not for our Optimus G Pro? Is there any hope for our phones?

I don't want to float anyone's boat, but E975 is much widely used... and is basically Nexus 4, so they use everything from there. S4 and M7 are much much more popular than this damn device, so yeah... that's pretty much why
I'm working on 6.0 bringup, but I have issues - not only from software side, but from hardware side too: my battery is slowly dying (and I can't find proper replacement), and looks like my usb board (or connector, let's hope its connector) died this morning, I can't do anything but charge it with all four cables I have and thats it... no serial connection means no data transfer, no adb access, no logs. It basically renders phone useless for any work.
I'm kind of sick of this phone, so I'm not sure I'll even keep this phone anymore... so my efforts towards M bringup are halted for undetermined period.

This phone is at the end of it's development life. We had a good run while it lasted. I ordered a Nexus 6 this week and will be moving on shortly. I'm keeping the E980 as a backup so I'll still try to tinker around with it but for daily use it is time to move on.

Why? I bought my G Pro last year for 240 euro brand new . Its in perfectly good condition, I don't see any reason to replace it . Screen is still fantastic, it has good enough performance, battery life is good - I menage to use it for 2-2,5 day.

While that is great you enjoy your device, the only reason we have custom ROMs on this device in first place is basically a complete hack, and also we have gotten no support from LG at all. All of this combined makes for a very unsatisfactory reputation for this device and hence why development is no longer very active and I do not expect it to pick up activity any time soon or ever (I could bbe be mistaken but this is just my opinion).
Yes, so sad for gpro
So, do you think the same level of support as the G Pro (i.e. minimal to non existent) can be expected on the V10?

Maybe not even that, because OEMs are getting really good about locking bootloaders and such nowadays.
Well as an owner of an E986 for about 2years 9 months and using it a lot of time every day I can confirm that this device is a beast, good performance, good battery,quality... and its like I bought it yesterday! Its so sad seeing G Pro slowly dying... I really hope it will be lucky with cm13
There might be a vietnamese marshmallow/6.0 project. @duongthinh441 mentioned it.
