how to keep network connection online - HTC One X

I'm using internet connection constantly because I'm using Whatsapp and Line for messaging but I have problem getting messages after a while when the screen is off or when not checking them. I think it might be because the internet connection is put to sleep when the screen is off but I'm pretty sure I've ticked that off in Suite Tools (power saving menu). Is there any other possible explanation?
I'm using Android Revolution 9.7.2 rom with NCX kernel.
I dont think the problem existed when i used Viper rom.
Cheers

Check wifi settings and i guess check battery setting and of course check syite tools

its a question that i have been waiting for.
seems like any push data is affected because the app shuts down data to save battery.
I know you can set it so it switches on for a 1min every 15mins but if you have GTalk or constant emails being pushed, it means you wont get them until the app switches the data back on to reteive the emails/messages.
this is my understanding on how this app works.
if there is a program that auto switches ur phone to 2G when idle or screen is off, then i think this is a better solution.
This one does turn on when your screen does lol..
But earlier it stopped my data working even with screen on, i had to go into settings and disable then re enable and it worked! maybe it was cus i was at work and it tried to connect when i had no signal.. i dunno
Re: juicedefender
it's a known problem and the developer is working on a fix. I won't be using it until it is
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Is it? Whats the fix? Just turning it off and back on? Because disabling JD didnt work..

This happened to me yesterday as well. Only way I could get mobile internet back again was to reboot
Hi,
I installed JuiceDefender two days ago. Since then, I have had wifi problems. I can't be 100% sure that they are caused by JD, but I had no wifi problems before that, using several different networks.
My phone is SE Xperia X10, but I understand that the app works the same way on both phones.
The problem is:
When wifi is enabled, it takes several seconds to enter the "wireless networks" menu in settings. It then takes 20 seconds entering the "wireless settings" menu. During this period, the screen goes black. Sometimes, I get a message that the wifi app has crashed. Also: When I connect to a network, it works fine for 1-5 minutes, but after a while the phone does not seem to receive any data, even though it says "connected". The same wifi network works perfectly on my computer.
I have tried rebooting the phone, uninstalling/reinstalling JuiceDefender, etc.
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? Any hints on how to solve the problem?
Re: juicedefender
happened again today with mobile data at work, it turned it self off. does the developer know about the bug?

I think I might just keep charging mine but leave juice installed because I like the push notifications so ill disable juice for now!

Juicedefender is not in market anymore.
I bought this a few days ago and it has been working great but i was just prompted to update to the latest beta and nows things are not running too good.....may need to disable for a while.
uninstalled mine. just cause i wasnt getting good internet at work. seems better now. still a good app in theory. better than anything winmo had to offer.
Ive left it on but dont use it anymore.. Battery seems to have improved anyway
Re: juicedefender
the developer has released a beta to try and fix the issues. looks like the different carriers are causing problems with resuming the apn connection
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Gotta say, seems to be working without an issue on my phone
One thing i would like to know tho is that i can see the settings to change the rules for activation of wifi and apn but i would like to set these to 1m every 30mins rather than 15mins, is this possible ?
I only seem to change it to 2m for every half hour...seems to defeat the pont in changing it...What have i missed ?
It's absolutely helped my battery life. I think it's just about doubled it overall. I haven't bought the full version yet but I do intend to. Not because I want the extra features, but to support the work done on the free version - superb!

[Q] Wi-Fi Goes to sleep. Policy: Never. Any way to fix it?

*Edit* Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to never.
It seems like the Wi-Fi goes to "sleep" on the DHD. I installed VLC Remote a little while ago, and after 1-2 minutes the controller will not work. I had to quit the app and reconnect for it to work.
I did a test by pinging the DHD from my computer while the VLC Remote was active, turned off the screen several times. It worked perfect!
I then stopped the pinging and after 1-2 minutes the VLC Remote stopped responding. I pressed the pause button several times, nothing happened.
Then I started the ping back up (the VLC Remote was still open) and after a 2-3 "Request canceled" (no ping reply back from the phone) it got a response from the ping and the VLC Remote worked again.
Is there any way to make the Wi-Fi not go to "sleep"? It's annoying me to stop/start the remote every time I want to pause the movie.
I tried turning Best Wi-Fi performance on, but that didn't help
Thanks!
select the wifi settings, then press the menu button and select advanced, change the wifi sleep policy to never and your laughing

Thanks for the reply fkofilee. It's already set to "never". Updated the original post and title with it.
I restarted the phone and did some more testing.
As long as the screen is on there are no problems (VLC Remote responds), but when I hit the on/off button on the top of the phone to turn the screen off and turn the screen back on after a couple of minutes, VLC Remote will not respond. I have to ping the phone for VLC Remote to respond again.
Any suggestions?
same here, have to disconnect/connect to wifi to get it going again. Really frustrating when my exchangesync fails. Work as a IT-administrator and have to get serverfails reported as soon as possible.

I also have this issue its so annoying. I could be connected to wifi and have bars and then go to download something from the market it will pause and when I go into network setting its says wifi is authenticating but it doesnt change so I have to turn off and back on to get it working again. I had a Iphone 3gs and never had wifi issues like this.

I don't think we have the same problem. Downloading seems fine. When I ping it (while running VLC Remote), it works fine. I can shut the screen off, turn it back on 10 min later and it works fine. It seems like it goes into a type of "sleep mode" when there is no active traffic to/from the phone.
I sent an e-mail to HTC about this problem. I'll keep you guys updated.
Dont know if you do or are into mods but if you root your phone and flash clockwork mod you could try and push a new wifi module using root explorer...or even flash a custom rom...Pretty sure this would fix it..
Depends how much you know about this stuff though..
I can help you through it if you want to...some people dont want to though and I cant blame them...

Thanks rixsta! I'm gonna do a custom ROM, but I'm gonna wait until Gingerbread is released and custom ROMs have been made for that.
Are you up for testing if this is a problem on your ROM? If so, is this fixed with a new wifi module?
*Edit* With LeeDroid 1.2 and Buzz 1,22Ghz v1.0.2 it fixed the problem! I also sent a mail to HTC and they have forwarded it to the programmers.

I'm using leedroid's Rom so can't test and I've just got it working great..but...why don't you just root with visionary and pay £2.50 for root explorer and move a new WiFi module...that's all you need..
Up to you really..you could use Apache oc kernel...you will need to s off with this method and buy setcpu from the market...if your going to be doing custom roms in the future then you will need to do this anyways...if you need help let me know...I can tell you where to get the WiFi file from...

I have the same problem too, but it only happens with the mail application and the market, while the browser and XDA app works without having to reconnect the wireless connection.
Suggestions?

My friend has the same problem and I don't want to install a custom ROM on her phone.
Any news regarding this issue?

Wi-Fi Not shutting off and keeping phone awake?

Despite checking off Never, my phone is keeping Wi-Fi active and the phone isn't sleeping. Is there a way to fix this glitch? Also despite having an airave at home, my device shows constantly under the battery setting that i have no mobile signal. This is possibly making the phone search for signal, and explains why it often find a weird roaming signal. Anyone know any fixes?

Yep, what this guy said.
It was bugging me for a while too, not sure if its a feature of 4.1.x Android, but my understanding is if the device senses a Wi-Fi connection it turns on the radio and might ask you to try to configure. At the office, while driving, etc etc.

Ive disabled it countless times... it turns itself back on. There are other tiny little hickups Im having. The first device was flawless until an App Installation went corrupt and ruined it... Now I actually have a minor dud. Gotta try for "third times a charm"...

It is a feature of the OTA Samung update that put your device to LJC .. After you installed the update whether it was Automatic over the air or even manually once you device said Update installation successful then a box was up that you had to hit "Ok" and it was the box that read about the new Sprint Optimization option.
So, if you have the wifi on in the house it still causes a problem? Or is this an issue when you are out and have the wifi off, and it still searches for wifi location no matter what killing the battery?

Problems after Tmobile's auto update

hey guys, there are 2 problems I found after the auto update from Tmobile.
1. WiFi still on even you "turn off" , you can exam this by install WiFi Analyzer. This app will not work when WiFi is really turn off.
2. VPN profile will auto remove right after you hit the back button. Before the update, I saved 4 VPN profiles and everything works fine.
Why Tmobile's update always mess up things? They killed my M8 and now doing this to my G4........so annoying.!!!!!

1. Disable Wi-Fi scanning in advanced Wi-Fi setting. If checked, it stills scan for Wi-Fi signals for numerous different reasons.
2. I just installed Cisco anyconnect app and my profiles didn't get deleted hitting back button or closing the app and "force close" app in the app settings, can you describe little more in dtail? Which app are you using?

I observe the vpn bug as well. It is really annoying.
I go to settings, vpn and basic vpn. Add a profile, connect, use and disconnect.
When I go to settings, vpn and basic vpn later, there are no saved profiles. Drivers me nuts.

There are some situations that will drive you more crazy:
If you on WiFi and connect to VPN, you can disconnect VPN by just turn off WiFi.
BUT, if you using carrier's network and connect to VPN, you have no way to disconnect it!! Profile is not there, no disconnect option from notification. (It just suddenly come to my mind, you may be able to disconnect by switching to AirPlane mode, then switch back. Or turn off mobile data, then turn it back on to disconnect.)
Otherwise, you will have to restart your phone.
I see it is not just me having this issue with the VPN connections not saving.
Called t-mobile, they say they don't support vpn's, called LG, and they said maybe my phone is defective and to send it back, now here on XDA I get the scoop.
Is there a work-around or app that I can use to connect to my vpn without having to reenter the damn info everytime?
Thanks
Peter
I switched to using openvpn. Installed openvpn access server on my home server. It was ridiculously easy to set up through the web gui. You can also easily download the client configuration files from the web gui directly onto the devices. It just works.
The only downside is, it is the commercial version of their software and it only allows two concurrent users connected with the free license (not really a problem for me, but may be for others).
The android app can also put a direct shortcut on your home screen so when you press it once, it automatically connects and returns to the home screen. Just one click and you're good to go. Doesn't get any simpler.
I know it's not the answer you expected but I highly recommend openvpn
Same thing here
I purchased it yesterday and as soon as the store clerk powered it up a new OS update downloaded without any warning. I didn't think much of it at the time, but after reading your post I am sure that T-Mobile and LG did something wrong because VPN profiles don't stay saved. I hope the next update will fix it. Also, I'm discouraged to call T-Mobile or LG after reading that those calls from others who are also in the same predicament as I am were a complete waste of time . Oh well, can't win 'em all, but the phone is sure nice otherwise. If there's one thing I've learned over the years is that the amount of money you spend on a phone (or other things in general) is never a measure of quality.

wifi is always on in background marshmallow

Hi Guyz Im on Viper One 5.0.2 rom marshmallow I have download gsam battery monitor and it says my wifi is always and it keeps ticking up, I already wifi during sleep change it to only when plug in and there is no option that always scan for google location i think? I only check the wifi optimization so now I dont know why it keeps always on although I already turned it off
Mine does the same as well. I'm thinking it's kernel related tbh. But I'm sure someone can chime in with more knowledge than me.
