Sprint voicemail showing up... Also Sprint is Sniffing our info somehow - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So I called Sprint because I don;t use Sprint voicemail and every reboot the stupid voicemail icon pops up none the less.
I have been able to make it go away by force stopping the phone service....
Sprint is unable to make it stop do you have any suggestions....
I have no voicemail and I don;t even use Sprint Vm I use Google Voice
Having said that The sprint rep kindly informed me that I am not on the latest firmware....
I am infact on the latest firmware but rom'd up....
I didn't of course say that but it begs to question... How is sprint monitoring this and is there something I can kill to stop there invasion of my privacy?
My first thought was carrier IQ but wasn't that removed sometime ago for bad press? \
any thoughts guys?

Are you running anything other then touchwiz?

I believe they truthfully don't have very many permission and can not see much of anything.. Basically to my knowledge they can see your rom, and do small updates to get your phone back on track.. Maybe someone that works for sprint can confirm or deny this..
also on a side note.. Sprint doesn't care anymore if your on a custom rom or if your rooted..

Lol well I can say with every sprint phone I've had when I had any issues and would call them they would always say I need to update my firmware. Most of the time they are guessing. Is there anyway you can use titanium backup to just freeze sprint voicemail?
Sent from my Samsung (Apples are meant to be eaten) Galaxy S3

They can get basic diagnostic information about your phone. For example, the upper-level phone techs can see what PRL you are running and force updates. I have witnessed this with our devices at work.
Never asked if they could see the actual name of the ROM, but I don't see why they wouldn't be able to see most of the info in the About Device: Status area.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

Why not just uninstall the Sprint Voicemail app? It's the first thing i always do. I have my voicemails going to Google Voice.

When you update profile it sends the about phone info to the network to improve communication between the device and towers. All they can see is the same info shown in About Phone and Status menus. The info is IMEI, MIN, build#, PRL, phone#, signal strength, baseband all the generic device info in those menus. There's nothing private there that sprint doesn't already know due to them needing it for you to have an account except for the rom info which really doesn't matter much. Its not like they can see all of you pr0n you downloaded unless they want to go back and check your IP logs.

I froze already I believe I may have even force removed

The reason I ask if your running cm or aokp. I knew back on the og epic 4g the "phantom" voicemail was a issue with the early cm and aokp builds.
Idk if that's still a issue with the gs3, I love touchwiz to much to give it up.

[Q] Custom ROMs with Credo Mobile?

I looked and could not find a good answer to this. I am the proud new owner of a Galaxy Epic 4G Touch through Credo Mobile (the progressive Sprint reseller). I would like to install a custom ROM (CM9), but before I do, I need to know:
1) Will I have a problem activating my phone on Credo (I assume that most ROMs assume you're with Sprint proper)?
2) Once I have managed to activate it, will there be features -- calling, SMS, MMS, etc. -- that won't work?
3) Will I have a problem activating Google Voice (haven't tried on stock yet, but I have a sense of how it should go)?
4) Is there anything else I should know about the Credo / Custom ROM combination that I don't have the good sense to ask here (as a longtime CM user, I've got the basic principles of ROM-flashing down)?
Thanks all, ahead of time, for your answers!
(Sorry to even do this, but ...)
*bump*
Flashing roms do not affect the modem(which is where your service programming is stored), unless you flash a new modem of course.
I an on boost and i never have problems with any ROM, roms only affect the system partition. The modem is completely different.
If you flash a new modem, you may need to do a profile update to keep your 3g profile up to date.
I haven't heard of that so idk if a profile update will work (only with Sprint service and plans can you do an ota profile update). I am not on Sprint so i have to manually update my data profile through qpst service programming.

1. I had no problems rooting and running Blazer & Paranoid Android ROMs as if it was a Sprint phone.
2. I have a weird issue where when I get voicemails they send me an SMS, or txt (I didn't know there was a difference...), and a number to dial to choose between the 2. Then after a few minutes I sometimes get the voicemail in the Voicemail app as well. As far as MMS, I don't use them, I use email for sending pictures and videos, but if you needed that, there are instructions for changing your MMSC URL. It didn't work for me, but I don't use them anyways so I didn't bother struggling with it. Also I learned that for CM based ROMs, the ##3282## is #*#*3282*#*# or *#*#3282#*#* one or the other I don't remember.

There's the problem - you're on an MVNO.
1) Go to phone and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
2) Go to Edit and enter MSL
3) Go to Others and then MMSC URL
4) Change from mms.sprintpcs.com to mms.plspictures.com
This should restore MMS.

[APP][TOROPLUS][10/12/12] Sprint Diagnostics - PRL Manager - MSL Getter - Other win

I got tired of all the *#*#tHiSiSsTuPiD#*#* codes to access all the Sprint diagnostics so I slapped this app together. Works great on our Eos builds and works on Dreams and Shabbys build. Just flash in recovery and win. Let me know what you think.
UPDATE: 10/12/12
For those of you who run Eos, nothing new. Just helping out everybody else who haven't discovered true win yet :highfive:
Features:
PRL Manager: No more test.prl crap. Just pick a folder, dump in all your prl's and flash PRL's on the fly. Be sure to report back when Sprint cancels your contract for you!
MSL getter: Just tap to get your MSL code. Simple enough.
USB Diagnostics Mode: With help and motivation from my main man, the cdma guru himself, Autoprime! If you know what this is, you'll already appreciate it.
Hidden Menu: All the good shortcuts like update profile and prl, hands free activiation, data and debug menu, and all that.
NOTE: THIS IS A SYSTEM APPLICATION, NOT A USER APP! Do not try to install like a normal user app. It must be flashed to system/app. This will not work on stock, but who runs stock anyway? Reason being is in order to do some advanced telephony stuff, the app must have android.uid.system permission. Therefore, because it is signed with aosp platform keys, and not oem keys, stock is dead. Should work with any aosp build, assuming the dev has used stock aosp platform keys. Or.... just run Eos, feel our win, problem solved

the menu shows up obviously.. but it seems purely cosmetic. no flip from PDA to Modem is ever made. I'm probably the only person on earth that wants this feature.. so no worries. But if there's anything I can do to help this progress, lmk. I'll be in ##gn-sprint as usual Might just need to wait until Sprint releases JB for this feature. Samsung AOSP + Diag is quite an issue outside of NS4G and Gnex.
So can I force roam with this?

Thanks for this tool and for your TeamEos ROM. Been running your nightlies since they dropped and don't plan on switching . I have a problem just recently when I try to send an MMS. It won't send (says sending, then times out). Same goes for downloading MMS (says downloading, then of course times out). I always do a full wipe, system, cache etc. Once the problem started I went back to my Nandroid but the problem continued, I then Odined back to stock using Shabbys FC12 tar and let the system update to FD02 but I'm still getting the same error messages.. Its not a problem with this app or the Team Eos ROM. I truly believe its a provisioning issue. I have done the force re-activation with my MSL...and still no joy lol. I apologize in advance for posting here if its incorrect, seemed appropriate given I'm currently running the Eos ROM and obviously you guys have a good knowledge of this kind of thing. Alright, so first thing I saw (very minor, just graphical) was on first boot after a full wipe (I wipe internal storage, system, everything when I wipe, so the phone is dead clean) was the text at the first screen that normally says "Emergency Call" that you can press on to call if you have an emergency, instead said, "Slide finger in pattern to unlock".
Aside from that, the screenshot I took of the first screen came out as only gray which is strange, but tried again after getting to the home screen and it worked fine. Going to start work on testing the voice, mms, sms and such and will probably let ya know more tomorrow.

So I will have to wrestle with that.
I am adding testers as I go, so if you haven't seen a test yet, be patient. I have a new building coming in the next day or so.

Since Roam Control seems to be defunct should we offer a bounty

It seems roam control is defunct (based on lack of basic response and updates), but I see no reason reason another developer could not step in and offer a viable replacement. Should we put together a bounty and hope to entice a developer to design a replacement app? I am sure their are enough sprint users that would kick in.

I wish there would be some headway on this. There's been some change in the past two days that leaves me with 0 signal in my office and, of course, it won't stay on roaming and keeps bouncing back and forth. I don't know if they're having issues at this one tower, or if they have changed the direction of the antenna, or what.
I was looking for this as well to get my phone to force roam in places I got bad service. I had the app on my EVo, and EVo 3D and got spoiled. My service sucks at work and home even with the Airrave. This is what I did and it works for me.
- download this Hidden Menu apk View attachment HiddenMenu_No_Root.apk and install it
- download this zip View attachment Modded_VZW_PRLs.zip
- Once you download the Modded Verizon Zip. Extract the files. Rename the PRL that says 00002 to Test.prl. (Feel free to try other PRL's. Just posting what works for me). Use Move or Copy (My Files stock app, Astro, or whatever you use) to put Test.Prl on root of Sd Card, (not ext card).
- Once its on the root of the SDCard storage turn off your wifi, and your data.
- click on the Hideen Menu app (apk) you downloaded and installed already
- tap launch settings> ##DATA#Menu>View>PRL Write.
- After you tap PRL Write the phone should reboot.
- After reboot Tap Menu>System Settings>About Phone>Status and you should see this below

PRL should show 2
If it does you are now roaming. If it doesnt. Then try again. It usually works if data and wifi is off. If your looking to go back to Sprint. Just update your PRL the normal way. This wouldnt be considered "on the fly" like the roaming app, (without a reboot) but its fast, close enough and does the job for ME. If this is a repeat of what everyone already knew, ignore this obviously. This is for ppl that may not know or the search button isnt working for you.... I'm using Jelly Bomb btw. I know it doesnt work on AOSP Roms. Dont know about the others.
**I'm sure everyone knows the consequences for roaming too much on Sprint. I actually had my account terminated before for the same. Which in my case worked out. They terminated the contract but not my line, phone number or account so I was able to come back as a new account. May have got lucky. Dunno & dont want to find out. I try to use it just AS NEEDED and go easy on the DATA roaming as well. I monitor my bills just to be sure.. Dont get lazy and leave it roaming all day everyday because your content with having service everywhere like I did. Take it off when in places you have Sprint service.
Hope this helps
So................ I am in the middle of building my MC2 H20 ROM and I will see about putting this in my ROM maybe as a toggle option in the dropdown, and in settings. I will see what time permits. If I finish the rom before this is complete I will focus on this.

I also kept getting a Talk and Hangouts notification every time I got a message and I wasn't allowed to clear the Talk one.
In other news, I manually placed it on my Note 10.1 and it has worked flawlessly...

You're better off with Talk and G+. Hangouts doesn't even have online/busy/not-online status, which has been a fundamental piece of online chat since....I dunno....AOL AIM?
I played with the "update for all of 30 minutes before I reflashed my ROM. Hangouts is currently not even a feature-complete AIM replacement. It is pretty, but that is about the only thing it has going for it over what it is supposed to replace.

What is the difference between online (green in Talk) and offline (gray), busy/do-not-disturb (red) or away (yellow)?
What is when one does not have any picture?
How do I see the list of my Talk-/Hangout-capable contacts? I have about 10 such persons in Google Talk, but suddenly 20 more in the Hangouts list.
Sorry guys but it's really crap.
I've deinstalled it.

You're calling it crap without bothering to trying to learn the app?...if they weren't capable of chatting I'm sure they wouldn't be on the list

WRONG!
Some of them only use google account to activate the android phone and to use the app (play) store, they do not use GMail nor Talk or Hangups. At least one is only using iPhone and iMac. I used to talk to him once. He never starts Talk or Hangups since them. They are all on the long long list... Why?? How do I remove them easily?
And: how do I signalize that I am busy and may not be disturbed ("busy" = red)? How can I see that someone is away (Android phone online but screen is off: yellow/orange)?
Sorry but is is crap, CRAP *CRAP*, not an upgrade!
Bask to Talk ... and happy again!
I have the update.. But didn't take it.. I like my inverted talk better

I'm in the camp that says it's the biggest piece of crap google has put out in a long time. While I think the name itself is lame as hell. My main issues in order are...
1. All of your contacts are added whether you want them there or not. Face it, I don't want every contact in my address book in my hangout. There is no way to remove the unwanted contacts from the list without blocking them (which also blocks them from your google+. Now I have 200+ names in my hangout. Wheres that stupid sign that we can hang around google's neck.
2. I have 2 separate accounts one for just my family and the other for my xda friends. There is no real way to separate these accounts all the contacts for each are merged together. Again, where's that sign?
3. While it does show when you are online or offline it doesn't give you to option of being away or busy.
There or more but these are my top 3.
It's really a huge step backward from talk.
