Front camera resolution - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how (if possible) to access the resolution data within our phones and if it's possible to permanently change those data values? The current work around that I have to use it on a daily basis is the MIUI camera apk which lets you choose your resolution, but it only holds within the scope of that app. When using other apps, such as SnapChat, it reverts back to the default which doesn't function properly.
Any ideas?

You can't necessarily boost resolution by changing values. It comes down to a hardware limitation. If its only a 1.3MP resolution, then that's all you have to work with.

Good news is that I'm actually trying to lower it. Would that be possible?

I'm not sure, it may already be too low a resolution to decrease anymore.

Thanks for the input, hopefully that's not the case.

You can try a third party app like Camera360 Pro, but it will do so in software, which sucks

Well I already have the MIUI camera for everyday use. I'm trying to figure out a way to see if I can permanently change the resolution so that it holds for other apps such as Snapchat.

Bump

What you can do to make it work for the whole OS is lowering/raising the dpi, try looking up apps in the Play Store that let you change it, or apps here on XDA
This would only be for the phone itself though, not any pictures you take

Cool thanks, I'll give that a shot when I have some down time at work and report back.

Lowering the DPI had positive and negative results.
Positive: everything looked a lot crisper, giving it the appearance of having a higher aspect ratio
Negative: not everything flowed properly with the lower DPI and the camera issue within Snapchat was still prevalent
I'll switch back to the default just to make sure everything is functioning properly, but thanks for the help!
For the record, I read this, and used ES File Explorer to make the changes.
EDIT: I'm going to see if there's a camera setting in the build.prop file mentioned in that article that could help for just the camera.

Just drop your phone on the ground face-down, that'll help.

i tend to argue against your advice. that's just absurd!
however.... a pair of vise-grips would work. just pinch it smaller! squeeze it on top and bottom and you'll get a panorama effect!

How many turns with the vise-grips do you think would do the trick?

You could try by getting a damp cloth and give it a bit of a wipe at the camera lense.

It sounds like the shutter speed is really slow when you take your photos. Chances are, this is a lighting problem. If you're taking pictures in any environment other than bright, the shutter speed might be too slow which will cause that blur to happen. You can try to use the LED flash if the subject is close enough. You can also change the exposure to +1 or +2 which will increase the shutter speed, negating the blur. The downside to increasing the exposure is that you increase the sensitivity of the image sensor to light which introduces noise into your photo.
camera 360 is free, i think the only difference on the paid version is the colorful effect w/c is useless anyway..

Any way to reverse front camera?

So when I look at myself using the front facing camera it looks right. Then when I snap the picture it flips. On my EVO it did not do this. I looked in the settings to see if it was something I could change but I did not see anything. This is really annoying to me.
Am I missing it or is there a workaround out there?

The flip is to adjust it like a mirror.
Have you not figured it out?

The front camera shows a mirror image, but when you take a pic it takes it as the camera sees it, so you are actually taking a self portrait.
IIRC, the Evo would always take a mirror image with the front camera.
So are you saying you want to take a pic with your front camera and see it as a mirror image? The camera won't do this that I can see, but you can easily flip the pic with the photo editor app that comes on the E4GT.

Why do you want such a feature? O_ o.... that makes absolutely no sense to me, when you can just take the image you took, and flip it with any or current pic editor, i understand that you might want it automated, but..er.. what i don't get is why would you want such a feature lol.
Look for my fixed camera in the apps and themes forum. The international galaxy s2 has this as an option. The zip I posted will give you what your looking for.

Thanks.... Your modified camera fixed it! Also, like that when selecting the focus point, the flash lights up to capture focus. I didnt see that feature in the stock camera but its nice for taking a picture in dim lit areas where it can be hard to focus.

LCD Density changer malfunction

I cant get it to change my desnsity permanently. I checked the box saying "save density as system density" with a setting of 200 and it wont ever hold at 200 through a reboot. What can i do to fix this?
Part of the problem may be that the ET4G doesn't use an LCD display.

That is definately not a part of the problem. I used the program but I have never tried to make it stick on reboot.
Thanks for the input genta. Hope some one with the answer stumbles through this thread!
What specific app are you using? I use LCD Resolution from the market, and setting it to "always set on boot" definitely works for me on every rom I've tried so far.
Did you check in settings the save as system density?

I know you clicked it. I ment was was it still checked after you reboot to make sure it was still checked? Should have explained better. Could you use the widget to apply the density? You just click the widget and it sets your saved density? Better than having to go into it I guess.

That's good to know that the other works like intended. Myself, I have always been nervous about having it set on boot incase something wonky is going on. Did you happen to let the dev know about the issue with this device.

Used it only for speed test also. I guess only for apps that don't run at the same aspect ratio as us. Which most will. Or resolution.

Anyone know how to add an app...or how long it takes to show up in the list to adjust the ratio?
I just installed an app that needs adjusted and it is not listed.
Aspect Ratio Correction Apps
On my Verizon LG G2 when I tap on the Aspect Ratio Correction , it takes me to a screen where the apps are listed and I can check the ones I want . But I haven't checked any .

[Q] My pics and videos auto rotates!

My Samsung Galaxy Note II camera app captures pictures/videos one way but after it saves it auto rotates. This stops me from posting my videos. You can rotate pics later but you can't really rotate videos. Does anyone know how to fix problem?

Make sure your auto-rotate toggle is properly checked off (adjust it and run a few tests to see if that doesn't help) if still no dice than you might need to get an app that allows you to adjust the orientation of videos but considering your issue is unique (if your rooted and on a custom ROM) then you might need to clean flash again to see if that doesn't help

Personally havent been looking into too much but apparently there is a CM 11 for TMO that is downloadable (in the general tab) but not quite sure about functionality yet and omnirom is out as well for our device but that has bugs (so new) and not reliable enough, IMO, to be a daily driver yet
