Clean Rom vs Jedi vs ?... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Please excuse my ignorance. I am looking to root my phone soon & flash a new rom. I have previously done this about 3x with my Cappy so I'm only a semi-noob. Anyhow I'm looking for input as far as which rom to use. On my wish list is full sPen support & multi-view (all apps not just the att ones), followed by good battery life & maybe the dropbox thing. Don't want to lose lte support our any of that. I am thinking it's between clean rom & Jedi. Please send me your input. Thanks!

All of the ROMs on here have full compliment of features your looking for. Ya just gotta try them all till ya find what suits your individual needs

Jedi and CleanRom both come highly recommended. As you try each rom, you will find quirks with each development. Personally, the [ROM][12/5][N7105XXDLK7 4.1.2] International Stock has be the best rom for my needs. Strangely, the main problem I have with that ROM is that the Adobe Flash doesn't work. Otherwise it's been great.

Easy fix with flash just google jelly bean flash and will lead u to a post on here where u download it straight to the phone but make sure u have unknown sources checked

We have a lot of great developers on here. Like others have said, read the comments on specific roms and just try them out for yourself.

Why don't you TRY both then decide which one you want to use as your main Rom. Any thread like this is very opinionated and everyone has their own taste for things and discredit certain devs because they don't have this or that in their roms. I'd say just try a few different ones because you may not even end up with Jedi or CleanRom at then end of the day.

I used to be the same type of user...trying to ask someone what's the "BEST" rom to use. After flashing and trying several ROMs on my own, I'd agree with the others and say that try them out for yourself. You will have a different experience from the next person. So far the GN2 ROMs I have tried have been very stable so I'd say it comes down to which one you like better.

Sounds good. I'm really not that picky except I want those few items mentioned above. The minor details I don't care much about. Lol Of course I read these 'hello I've bricked my phone' threads and they scare me a tiny bit. But I know as long as I stick with the proven winners specifically for att version I should be fine. Just have to find the time to do it all. Can anyone help me with that? Lmao

I've tried both and they are both very good. They are different types of Roms so read on the features for each and make a decision. You can't go wrong either way.

Just flashed Jedi X6 and it seems very good i'll post more once i've run it longer

CR with the latest Perseus kernel is very nice. Straightforward and easy install. Good developer communication. I recommend it!

Best ROM for me

Im looking for a rom to fill my needs, A rom with working wifi tether, usb tether, s-beam, Wifi direct, overclocking capabilities and maybe some of the stock TW sg3 features like screen on when viewing screen, call when you put to ear and things like that.
I know im asking a lot but I figured I'd ask to see what everyone else is running with high demands like me.
( by the way, I'm used to running aosp roms since I dont really care for TW rom lay outs, Unless thats a simple fix like running a custom launcher?)
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Before this gets locked by our mods.... go into dev section, check out roms (whats working/not and screenies are in thread. And can skim a page or two (towards end) see what issues are popping up.) Find one, flash and give a test drive and form your own opinion. Everyone uses phone differently and has different experiance with roms. So try for yourself. I run and personally love the peoples rom. If ya dont like a rom wipe and flash another. Rinse and repeat till you find your happy place.
Btw, not trying to come off like a d!ck. So dont take it that way. We seem to get a lot of these threads. All end up locked.
Lock me up please!
Ps: IN BEFORE LOCK!

I have browsed around and even tried SlimRom which is a great rom but some of the descriptions for new roms dont give all the information ones looking for and screenies arent provided with every rom.
I didnt think my question was too vague, I listed some of the things I was looking for in a rom, Just thought some people out there had the same needs and could refer me to what their using.

I use FreeGS3 so I get all those features and combined with Ktoonsez Kernel so I can overclock and stuff, you should try it out. I've also heard good things about The Peoples Rom too so you may wanna try that one as well.
I just flashed the people's rom a couple days ago and it has been good so far. Sounds like it's got everything you are wanting.

[Q] recommended touchwiz rom

well, I got brave and rooted my S3, and was looking to go further by trying a rom.
This is my first smartphone, so I don't have a lot of experience with different models, but I like touchwiz, and enjoy S voice and search google via voice to text. Actually, there is not a lot about this phone that I don't like. That said, I always believe a product can be made better.
I read a post somewhere a few days ago where someone commented that they had tried a variety of roms, but ended up going back to a modified sammy rom because Cyanogen and AOKP roms removed all of the stuff that made his S3 special. He commented that it made it feel like a 2 year old Nexus. Not having tried any of these roms, I cannot vouch for the truth in this, but it makes sense, and I too want my S3 to be "special... plus"
Some of the things I'm looking for in a rom are
keeping s voice
a toggle mod
some debloating
Beats audio, or similar
I would like a translucent status bar (is that what is called?) .. the thing you pull down from the homescreen
Free GS3 might be an option, but its a T mobile port, and I'm not sure about it.
any recommendations are certainly welcome.
Thanks...
Re: [Q] ROM Suggestions
Welcome to android!
Before a mod shuts this down because these types of threads don't get to stay and your in the wrong section as well. I will tell your best bet is to read, read some more and then try some out. There a lot of great roms but your the only one who will know if its right for you.
Good luck!

thanks. My bad, whats the right section?
noobs like me can't post in the developers forums
BTW, I've been reading, and reading and reading some more, but recommendations are always welcome.
I did run across a similar thread, but of course it was a general android question, not specific to At&t, which is what I have.
This is very simple if you want a reliable non bug all features working rom... just stay with stock... all other roms are not perfect, they will give you some but it will also lack on something, I have try them all and always come back to stock.

Thanks, I had considered that possibility, but thought I would ask.
Q&A Should be where questions go. I would also say there are many solid stable roms. Read, read and try as many as you want. All phones are not 100% the same and your apps and setups can effect how it runs.
Good luck

There are multiple threads in this (General) section and the Q&A section. Please search and read those threads for opinions, options, etc. Moreover ROMs are a personal choice, and are subjective to user experience. I'd suggest making a nandroid backup, flash a ROM, if you don't like it, restore your backup and try another.
Thread Closed.
P.S. Welcome to Android and XDA.

[Q] What are you using?

What's the consciousnesses of the best ROM for the Sprint G3?
Really don't want to download them all, try all features and then choose. We need like a Download meter on a page that says how many times each rom flavor has been downloaded so we know what's hot and what's not.
Give me your feedback based on all features working and a solid rom with no issues. (plz don't laugh. I know we are not releasing broke apps/ROMs )

Every week or two, this exact thread pops up, and the generic response is: try them all out.
In terms of downloads, none of the Roms are hosted on XDA< so it'd be impossible to bake it into the site itself. Dev's could put it in their posts, but even that's not a good indication (Roms that release a lot of updates will have a lot more downloads with fewer users, for example).
In terms of what's best, it's impossible to say. I personally like some of the fun features of XYZ Rom, while Johnny over there is much more interested in stability (he uses the phone for work, you see). Likewise, Suzie really just wants to have a Stock Rom with all Sprint and Samsung bloat removed. Little Ralphie wants the fastest and most gamer-friendly Rom, while Carl wants the best battery life.
All of us will have different desires when we flash a Rom and therefore there will never be a consensus on what is the best Rom.
Edit: All of that being said, If you don't want to take the time to flash each Rom individually, I'd say look at one thread and look at the features list. You'll see a bunch of stuff that makes no sense to you, but you might be able to piece together what some of the mods/features might be. If they sound good, read through the last 5-10 pages of the thread and see if there are any stability issues being reported. If it seems stable enough for you, flash it. Otherwise, move on to the next thread.

Each rom thread has a break down of what the rom includes, what works and doesn't. Feed back on the thread is the closest to a meter you'll get.

This is what I do. I like Whiplashh's, and currently running MOAR.
Flastnoles11 has a list of them in his FAQ thread.
check out the ported iOS compiled from source in the original android development forum. most users have pretty decent battery life. only annoyance is that you jailbreak it every time the phone reboots.

Custom Roms

I'm looking to put a custom ROM on my phone and was wondering what ROM i should do or what the good ones where and why. Thanks for your time.
first there are threads already about this. second they have been closed for a reason. best rom threads usually create tension amongst users and devs. not to mention what may fill my needs may not be what you want. the best thing would be to look at them choose which ones look good to you as far as features. then flash them and try them out. goodluck

Make backups and try them all.

Try Minitab (N7100) port to sprint by ram9200. Thats all I have to say
I recommend using Mack's Plain Jane ROM.
Get in the habit of making nandroids and become a flashaholic. Eventually (maybe) you'll come across the rom that 'just fits'. then you'll be set. But until that time have fun and enjoy the adventure that is XDA. Try some stock, some custom TW, some AOSP, some ports from other devices. And remember that there are multiple variasion (i.e. different kernels) within each rom. So explore and have fun, then come back and tell us which the best rom is for you and why!

First, i am going to assume someone will complain about this posts location...
Second, that’s a hard question to answer... No phone is created the same... So you will find many times a ROM will run perfect for one user, and just so so for the next... Its really all about you... What works best... Taking the time to flash and drive a ROM for a few days is always the best option...
That said, Tweaked 2.1 found here is by far the best Touchwiz based ROMs... It doesn’t rely on Aroma... What it does have in Aroma are all nice, clean mods that work the first time... On top of that... Tweaked Aroma works a little differently... You can set it once, it makes a backup of your preferred installs... And keeps it... That way next time you flash, you don’t need to do Aroma all over again... All of the work to the ROM itself are done with actual coding, making it far slimmer than the rest...
If you flash it the right way, it’s a onetime flash... Go be happy sort of ROM...
PLEASE, for the love of god... Do NOT take this as me bashing other ROMs... This is just my preference and thoughts... If anyone has a different point of view, SUPER RAD for you... Don’t get all bent over a barrel about my stance...
Look my friend, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but this in no way development so should not be in this section. There is a section labeled Q and A for questions.
Having said that these what ROM threads end up getting locked because they're pointless and end up in bickering and arguing.
There are like 10 current ROMs. Just read them and some peeps comments. When you find one that sound good, make a backup and flash it. If it isn't what you want restore your backup.
One last tip the 4.2.2 (AOSP) will have the most bugs and from what I've read worst battery life. So focus on the TW based ROMs. I went ahead and reported this thread so it can be moved before you very flamed. Please just pay attention where you post on the future
Ps I second tweaked

I thorough enjoy Jedi master 14. It has great battery life, speed and quite a few features and themes. It also has Wifi calling which is very nice to have on tmobile.
Also, please take this to the Q and A section. Better yet, we should report this so the mods move it. We don't need another one of these threads opened.
I hope this helps bud!
