Make sure to flash the GAPPS directly after flashing the ROM while in recovery....I've read that if you let the ROM boot up before doing this it can cause some problems later on

I can attest to that. You must flash GAPPS before booting the ROM for the first time.

Problem flashing CM10

I have a Galaxy S i9000 with darky v11 ROM which is in ICS.I tried to flashed it with JB rom of cm-10-20120906-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd and it went into some sort of bootloop..(it goes to start and then CWM appears then samsung logo and then CM9 logo appears again and again) I did wipe cache, wipe data and dalvik cache first before flashing the CM10.
the situation lasted for about 15 mins and I realized that something is wrong.
I have no choice now but to take out the battery and enter recovery and then I make a restore, my current restore point is Darky v10.4.2 but the CMW is stucked to restoring boot
what should I do to fix this problem?
any help from you guys will be appreciated thanks.

I had the same issue. And I fixed it by manually getting into CMW by three button combo
Steps done..
1. Flash gb stock
2. Root it
3. Do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik. Install cm 9 and go to CWM byt three button combo.
4. Do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvikInstall cm 10.. after selecting installation file I had a boot loop.
5. Did 3 button combo and got to CWM recovery and did actory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik and selected cm 10 and second time it went fine.
6. Install gapps after finishing cm 10 install and do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik cache
All working good now...
Kool stuff guys..any change log? Screenshots?
Thanks again for this amazing info

flash kernel with odin and reflash the rom
FIX and explanation how to go back and forth between CM9 and CM10 nandroid backups:
Same thing happens to me when I switch from CM9 to CM10 . I start flashing CM10 and about half the installation the phone goes into loop with cwm-samsung logo and so forth . I just pull the battery out and then I enter CWM again, wipe everything again and I flash CM10 again and gapps. The installation will succeed this time and the phone will boot. I think this happens because the partition method is being changed.
If you are on CM10 or an JB rom and want to restore CM9 or ICS nandroid backup, first wipe everything, flash the CM9 or ICS rom , let it boot and then go into recovery and wipe everything and then restore the ICS nandroid backup.
If you are on CM9 or an ICS rom and want to restore CM10 or JB nandroid backup, first wipe everything, flash the CM10 or JB rom , let it boot and then go into recovery and wipe everything and then restore the JB nandroid backup.
YOU NEED TO DO THESE STEPS BECAUSE ICS AND JB HAVE DIFFERENT PARTITION METHODS AND JUST RESTORING NANDROID WILL NOT CHANGE IT.

Stuck on Cyanogen boot screen

Hi
I just flashed the lastest nightly from get.cm using cow from a clean system, formatted /system, wipe factory/reset, and wipe /cache. After the installation I clicked reboot system. I am on the screen that says CyanogenMod with the cyan circle spinning, its been on that screen for 5 minutes now, is that supposed to happen? People have said that it takes a couple of minutes, but im not really sure how long.
Thank you in advance

I have addressed this before in another thread but anyways if you flashed it on CWM Recovery then it will bootloop (Jellybean ROMs). Just flash a touch recovery and flash and enjoy
Flash a custom rom if u'r still stuck on recovery !!

If you made a nandroid try going back into recovery and restore it. Then head over to the play store and download GooManager. Once downloaded, open, grant superuser request, press menu and click on install OpenRecoveryScript. It will download and install TWRP. Then just boot into recovery, format system and cache and them flash your ROM followed by gapps and reboot. (If you're still having problems I suggest downloading darkside superwipe and flash that, then ROM, then gapps.

[Q] Issue during CM10 flash - might bricked

This is the first time i flash my phone to move to the darkside.
T989 running ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.5 , Flashed with DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE_EXT4 / CM10 Stable. After complete the flash and stuck on the CM splash screen.
After read the CM10 Thread, that mentioned i should not use the dakrside wipe.
1 - I can boot into CWM mode
2 - Cache and dalvik cache cannot wipe Any suggest that i should proceed next or thats bricked????
3 - If restore, the USB keep prompt error
Thanks

Your phones fine
If you can get into recovery. wipe data, wipe factory reset, wipe dalvik wipe cache. Flash cm10. Flash gapps. Reboot.
If you can't wipe anything in recovery and it freezes up. Your recovery is broken and you have to reflash it via Odin. Then go back and do what I said above
NEVER USE DARKSIDE SCRIPTS WITH CWM 6.XXXXXX OR TWRP 2.2.XXXXXXX OR 2.3XXXXX

Sorry for newbie question, when i reflash via odin. Do i process in the phone mode or CWM mode? please advise

I don't know what your saying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tcffczu-0qA&feature=youtube_gdata_player. Watch this video. Download the files specified but the only files you will actually need are the Odin app and "Hercules.tar.cwm file. The only steps youd actually need to follow start at 3:50 and end at 6:27. This method will reinstall cwm version 5.0.xxxxx. As usual hold up down power to get into recovery mode. Use dark side super wipe and reinstall ROM and gapps then dark side cache wipe. since it IS the older cwm version 5.0.xxxx you do need the scripts. Once everything looks good and you decide to upgrade your recovery DONT use the scripts anymore. The newer recoveries do the work for the scripts
Edit:
Unlike the video explains you want to enter download mode before connecting your phone to Odin. I think to get into download mode you hold volume up / down then plug USB from pc into phone.. All at the same time

Carbon ROM 1.1

I just tried flashing this ROM. I can't seem to get it to boot right. I installed the ROM and GAPPS through CWM. When I reboot after installation, the Samsung flashes on the screen and there is no boot screen, nothing, black screen of death! I thought it might just take a minute but nothing happens, the screen remains blank. Any advice?

Did you do a proper wipe?
I flashed that ROM last night and had no issues.
I would restore your backup re download the ROM and make sure your version of clockwork mod is up to date and try again.

I am kinda new to this, when you say a proper wipe? I do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, format system, format data, format cache. Another thing is that I couldn't get my back up to work . So I'm a little stuck. I have the backup files on my computer. Sorry, I'm a noob.

That's a proper wipe (actually its a little excessive but better too much than too little)
If you can get into recovery again (volume+ power and home) do a factory reset and reboot again.
If that doesn't work go back into recovery and flash again. (With wipes again) or flash another ROM.
Definitely make sure you have an updated recovery. (Clockwork mod is up to 6.0 something and twrp is at 2.4.1.0
The new Roms are 4.2.2 and need the updated recovery or they won't wipe and flash properly.
