[Q] When do you plan on upgrading from your Galaxy S2? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

The Galaxy S2, while still an amazing phone, is getting outdated with the release of many new devices! I'm curious, when do you think you're going to upgrade, and to what?

I just got mine in June so I have a boy before I can upgrade. I will probably get a S-IV or a Note III if that's out. Definitely a Samsung though..

I don't get to phone upgrade till 2 more years

Ahh for sure, I'm thinking the same thing, Samsung is honestly the only kind of device I want. HTC just doesn't do it for me, and iphones... just no. I sent my iPhone 4s back, for my S2 again.

There is no LTE in my area yet so no hurry to upgrade yet. The S3 looks nice but I don't care about a slightly bigger screen and nfc. The note2 is sweet but it wouldn't really work for me all the time due to size. Wish Sprint had sim cards for easy phone swap so I could have note and small rugged phone too.
Getting the wife an Evo LTE later this week to replace her old slider phone. I know I will be jealous but she deserves a decent phone too.

I'm struggling with this one.
Device I already know - I want the GNote2 or something from next year's lineup.
Guess I have to find out what's going to happen with my MVNO though.
(Sprint and Verizon are offering tempting prices to switch...)

I have 11 months left on my contract. Probably getting the note 3 if its out. My s2's screen seems smaller and smaller with all these huge phones like s3/note2.

Already upgraded twice since November, got my dads s3 when he got a note 2 then Dec 1 sold my et4g for 350$ with accessories and used my upgrade on a note 2 for myself. The s3 was definitely a big step up from the s2 the extra gb of ram makes a huge difference in performance and the HD screen, nfc and lte were just a bonus. Then the note 2 isn't a major change from s3 performance wise but size and some added features the s-pen offer are nice. I was mostly after the size, being 6'7" having the extra size feels more comfortable in my hand(s). Hopefully in Feb there will be something else new that piques my interest when my last line is up for an upgrade on the 15th otherwise I may hold onto that upgrade til the s4 or note 3 come out or whatever Samsungs next big device will be. I'm hoping the s4 or note3 get samsungs new flexible display it would be nice to not have to worry about shattered screens if an accident occurs

I'm planning on getting the S4 when it comes out. But only if i get lte first in my area.

I also plan on waiting until LTE comes to my area before I upgrade. Planning on getting the S4 or another Samsung phone depending on what is out when LTE rolls out here.

If OP is saying "Galaxy S" device then its not the Nexus, but something not radically different. I would guess the Galaxy SII with the 720p HiDef screen with dual core 1.5ghz ?
But also Samsung has said they will preview the next generation S3 at the big CES electronic show in January, said to be released in Spring.

[Q] UnBrick?

Just wondering if you guys have found away to unbrick a hard brick caused by flashing an ICS ROM when the recovery had binaries? mainly like CM9 with the lost rouge ICS leaked kernels?
what is your phone doing that makes you think its bricked?
If you have the BLOD brick, you have a few options.
1- warranty
2- insurance
3- parts
4- paperweight
5- doorstop
6- target practice

Jtag doesn't work on BLOD those are toast and need the emmc replaced, which isn't cost effective so you have to replace the device or the logic board

AFAIK they can't fix all hard bricks. They can fix an eMMC lockup, but they cannot fix the bootloader being borked.
Unless they have a new method, I don't think they can fix BLOD.

Has anyone heard from Josh how he's repairing the eMMC lockup? Alt PIT file? Short of replacing it I'm not aware of any way to truly fix it... so would be new (and honestly welcome) news to me.

That's what I thought too, from what I've gathered from a few sources once the emmc locks up the only way to fully fix it is to replace it. The only other way is more of a bandaid and that's repartitioning off a good size chunck of the emmc size and that only works if it will boot. I was fairly confident BLOD = FUBAR

Was your battery really low before you went to recovery? Does the charging screen show when plugged in? Try letting it sit plugged in a while and see if the battery went to low, sometimes takes an hr or so in charger before they will get to a level when it can boot or even show the battery screen when off. If the charging screen shows once you get it above 50% try booting to download mode or recovery mode manually(using the hardware buttons)

OP, Your phone is officially done. I9300 is international version of the S3.. Different processor and goodies.. If your on Sprint.. your looking for the SPH-L710. Which is the US Version (Dual core) Flashing an international rom kills it. (Your not the only one who's done it, there are several threads here with similar issues) Just next time, be more careful and ensure you have the right model.. ask if your not sure.

Not that i've seen nor heard of.. If you could get into odin mode.. then it's a possibility.. More then likely, return to sprint. (Someone will chime in if they have a possible method) From what i've read. best bet, take back to sprint.. if your under warrenty they should exchange it. (Just don't tell them how you bricked it)

If so there is a chance, i had flashed a i9300 rom by accident on my d2spr and was able to recover it via odin, had to re partition everything and it was a bloody nightmare, but i was able to fix it. but if you cant get it to odin, and it wont charge. Then you should be able to take it to sprint for replacement. In my experience if its dead dead, and there's no water damage (which i'm presuming there isn't) they will send out for a replacement on the spot at no charge. Granted i always go to a licensed store so that may be the reason.

Major Trouble

For some reason my phone will not engage in a call. When I go to call someone, it goes in for 2 seconds, and automatically hangs up all by its self! I updated profile, PRL, rebooted, pulled the battery and everything and it still won't work. I'm on Blu Kuban 1.0.5.1 FI27, Agat Kernel #v0.5.4, modem FI03. It has never done this, and for some reason the phone has been beeping randomly at times, there subtle beeps, and I have no clue why, its not dieing or anything so it shouldn't. I really need some help. Also lately it has been saying my texts aren't sending, but the other person is getting them, and I know neither of these problems are related to signal because I have full bars in my house.
Does it hold a charge? Do you have any call blockers? Maybe try a different modem

Mine does this from time to time due to network issues. Both failed texts and starting to dial out then hanging up. It occurs even with good signal but the network itself is what's hanging. Almost like the firmware at the tower is frozen or lagging really bad, but the NV upgrades are being done in my area currently.

What phone will you upgrade to from the E4GT?

Hey guys,
Just curious to see what everyone is planning on upgrading to once they decide to move off this phone?
I want to wait for the galaxy s4 but I'm impatient Haha
Does the lg optimus g have a strong development community?
Other than these two are there any upcoming high end android devices worth looking at?
Thanks
Really, it depends on Sprint and when they'll bring LTE into my area. If not by coming summer time, I'll probably move onto the Nexus 4 and hop on T-Mobile. Although, if LTE has arrived on time.. I'll stick with Sprint and probably see what's out by around October (my upgrade).
Probably gonna go with whatever is out by then, the rumored S4 and (doubt it) Note 3. I do like the LG Optimus G though.. I went over to their forums for a sec and there's not much going. But the phone is still a bit new, just wasn't really marketed as heavy as the S3. So the development for that is slow, IMO.
S4 probably. My carrier depends on Sprint. If they don't have LTE, or at minimum network vision, in San Diego by September I'm gone like a bad habit.

My upgrade is around July. I am satisfied with this phone though so I'm awaiting an announcement for this year's nexus phone.
The S4. I can (hopefully) early upgrade in May with the (possible) release of the S4 for sprint. My area is confirmed to have network vision rolling out during the spring time so an LTE phone is given then. Not to mention my brother, mother, and father wants to upgrade (evo 3d / Evo 4g / Nexus S 4g).
I'm going with the nexus 4. The galaxy s 3 disappointed me in the radio department and sprint has pissed me off with their refusal to refund the activation fee after I returned the phone. So I'm going to use the petaband feature of the N4 to jump around prepaid gem carriers and use it internationally too. Plus, after my nexus 7, I promised I would always buy a nexus.

Galaxy Note, Note 2 or whatever comes in the future...
Gotta the minimum : 5" screen , 2GB ram, 1280 x 720 Resolution, Dual or Quad Core, Front facing camera and etc... because once you root em, THEY'RE ALL THE SAME!
Depending on the manufacturer, the next nexus, the xperia z looks real sexy, My upgrade isnt up til august of this year, so by then im sure we will have some info on the SIV, my options are quite open.
I'm going Nexus 4 all the way from now on. Well when my contract ends in 10 month, but thinking in paying the ETF soon

I want to stay with sprint but their LTE is not in my area yet. I lived in So Ca. There should be a lot new phones coming out soon. I am stuck between the HTC M7 and S4

I wonder if Samsung will call the next galaxy a 4? Some Asian countries consider 4 an unlucky number.
Going with the nexus 4 and using its pentaband to go to any gsm carrier I want. I won't need to buy a new phone for a while.
And anyone thinking about passing the etf buy a cheap sprint flip phone. Downgrade your plan to a basic plan with the flip phone. Sell your e4gt. Then after a few weeks you can cancel your contract for half the fee. Your e4gt will cover the cost and probably give you some extra cash

Just found out Verizon has lte at my apartment where I can't get a bar of sprint 1x... So saving up for a note 2 but kind of hoping for a better PHONE to come out. The note 2 is kickass but I don't know if I can really deal with that every day. I can barely touch the to left corner of my epic touch, and it's caused me to drop it a few times. Luckily this phone is a beast and has barely any damage even after having been dropped from waist height numerous times.

I have to say the specs for the HTC "M7" is looking pretty sexy but jf Samsung is going to use the chip they showcased in CES then I'll go with the s4

I never get wimax 4g on my area, but sprint charged me for data $10 . I don't think so upgrade with sprint unless lte will cover to my area. By then I will upgrade for hrc phone , I'm so tired with Samsung, I miss my Original Evo
