I'm sorry for such a stupid query but can we find the IMEI of the Desire any other way besides entering the *#06# thing?
Is the IMEI located behind the battery as well like in all other phones?
yes of course it is....
although if you are asking that, i wonder why you haven't just looked, because you obviously have one....or have access to one.
No I don't have one but I will be getting a locked one next month which I'll have to unlock and since I won't have the contract sim I would not be able to check the IMEI using that other method so wanted to just make sure that the IMEI is behind the battery as I would need that to get my unlock code.
Thanks a lot though
PS: My brother will be in London for 2 years so he's taking the Desire on contract but he'll use the contract sim in his older phone which he's more comfortable with
The number is printed under the battery

Oops you already knew that

When you get the phone, you can also check the IMEI number by going to settings, about phone, then phone identity. Its all there.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yes, you do not need a sim to check the IMEI. the IMEI is nothing to do with the SIM or network.
Thanks a lot everyone. You people are really helpful
Well like the name implies, I'm a noob. INC2 is my first smartphone, and it's been a learning process, but I'm comfortable with it. Either way, my service is currently cut off(by choice) there is a billing issue, and unless I stop being stubborn or they give my the credit I deserve I'm not paying.
Anyway it's been cut off a month, and I've still been using it over wifi just fine with 2.99 skype calling and text plus it's been no problem. Anyway, I took out the sim card and it's still working fine. Is that normal, even when I tried to make a call it sent me to Verizon cust. service like it normally does, and it still says in service in the settings.I was under the impression, that once the sim card is taken out nothing could be done with the phone. Can Verizon track what I'm doing without the sim card in? Or even when it is in and the GPS is turned off, can they track it?

To expand on that, your SIM isn't required to use the phone in the US on big red's network. CDMA carriers don't use SIM cards; GSM carriers do. The Inc2 is a dual mode/hybrid/whatever you want to call it because it has a CDMA radio for domestic use and a GSM radio for use abroad.
Sent from my DInc2 using XDA App
I hear that Gingerbread has been patched to support RUIM cards (CDMA SIMs) so with the patch you can run a RUIM. Then depending on whether you are on CDMA or GSM select, switch off, put in the corresponding card into the slot and start.
yea pulled mine out a long time ago...but keeping it just incase...
Is it possible for my friend then essentially to take my phone and throw his AT&T Sim in my phone and he is able to use it on there service? Or is there a SIM Unlock for instance when I'm in Thailand and don't want Verizon to charge me $1,000,000.00 just to make phone calls because normally i end up buying a cheap Nokia and SIM for only 50.00 and it lasts me for about 2 days on minutes when im overseas. I pretty much want to be able to use the SIM and not have Verizon charging me for International use when i'm using a different Carrier's SIM

The SIM is for foreign use for most of us in the US. I went to the UK recently, bought a $15 SIM card which gave me a new phone number over there, phone minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. I got the unlock code from Verizon before I left. I was able to get the unlimited data by having a rooted phone and selecting my own APN settings.
I'll do the same later this year in Italy. Right now I am using a Virtuous Unity ROM which does not recognize SIM cards, but I'll just switch back to my stock Gingerbread ROM before I go.

How did you obtain the APN settings for the new network?

The network provider has to give you that info. I got it from the company that rented me the European SIM card. I used iPhoneTrip.com, for what it's worth. Good coverage and no sneaky charges after the trip was over.

I currently have a iPhone 5 from AT&T and am looking at getting a S3 off eBay. Now my question is if I put the AT&T sim in the AT&T S3 will I get LTE? Reason i'm asking is I see that AT&T has 2 separate LTE plans, one for the iPhone and one for everything else. I already have an adapter for the nano sim.

Its just because iphones have an additional APN they work with. If you're provisioned for an iPhone plan you will be good with any other smartphone(apart from blackberries)
all you have to do at this point is put your sim in that micro adapter and you're good to go.

Wrong! You have to add the imei and the correct data plan on your account or you won't be able to access data. I work for a retailer and have people constantly coming in after swapping phones and their data is not working. It don't cost anything for a rep to add the correct soc codes and imei to your account. Just stop by the closest store to you and ask them to do it. It just takes a couple mins and saves people from getting pissed at at&t thinking there is problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Wrong! Don't be rude to me when store reps like you call into me for tech help. IMEI on the account does not effect ANYTHING. If a customer needed me to activate a phone of theirs, had the SIM but couldn't access the imei, I would dummy it. As in, put 1111111111111119 in the system. And believe it or not... but it would work.
I've had customers switch from iPhone to Motorola RAZR, for example, no problem. IN FACT my girlfriend has a Blackberry data plan. She HAD an iPhone while using that plan. THEN she sold her iPhone and bought an HTC ONE X. Wouldn't you know, that worked too! I had tech disable the RIM feature on the account and add XIP provisioning (regular data provisioning)
Edit: disclaimer: unless in the US they have crazy provisioning on their plans to completely restrict a regular smartphone from not using an iPhone plan, then I apologize.

Hey guys
Im in a bit of a pickle, I have been running the tmobile note 2 on simple mobile since it came out with no problems at all. After I did the update for the multiple window, the device does not connect to the simple/tmobile network. The device is unlocked and running all stock. I have tried almost everything, my sim card does work on other phones and other networks sims work on the note perfectly, I have done a factory reset, I even sent the phone to Samsung with no luck they say that everything was ok during their testing, but its not. I read somewhere that turning on and off the airplane mode for a while until it locked in with the network but nothing. I do have the correct apn settings, but still says that I cant connect to the network "not authorized"
Any ideas?
I would contact simple mobile or goto tmobile store and explain the situation. Maybe they will swap the sim card

i tried different sim cards from simple with no luck
do you think flahing the stock 4.1 of the note woul solve this?
Where did you get the phone? It sounds like it could possibly be imei blocked. Call t-mobile, tell them you want to check to see if the imei is blocked, give them the imei from the settings menu. If it's blocked and you didn't buy the phone brand new, you might be screwed.
If it's not blocked, try other suggestions from this thread. Gl man
If he's on simple mobile most likely he bought it from CL and got boned.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Nope, I got it on eBay as soon as it came out.
Sorry lol thank you by accident lol. My response is simple call ask tmobile why your not getting connection if that doesnt explain it then you have no choice to say your phone is a defect. If you hsve insurance make a claim. Or try use the same sim on another note 2 phone.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Can you swap in someone else's (working) sim that is tmo/simple? If that does not work, that might point toward the imei blocked theory.
sent from my phabulous phablet using xda premium
The easiest way to test the imei theory is to call TMobile and tell them you have a phone you want to make sure is not imei blocked. Might take a couple calls to get a rep that knows what you're talking about. Try to get to technical support if you can.
Getting a TMobile phone from anywhere other than a TMobile store is now a crap shoot with their imei blocking policies. I understand the theory of why they do it, but it sure seems like there could be a better solution. At the very least, one should be able to pay to have it unblocked.
Did you try going to Settings> More Settings> Mobile Networks> Network Operators> Avaliable Networks> Default Setup> Manual & Choose T-Mobile/Simple Mobile Network?

Imei blocked for sure. Someone bought it, threw it on eBay and then didn't pay their bills. That's what happens.

This might seem like an odd question but I was poking around my note 4 today and i'm noticing something interesting within the settings. If you go into Settings> More Networks> Mobile Networks you can see a small list if mobile network options. If you select Network Mode, you can see it has GSM/UMTS as an option to select. Going back you can also see within that small list of network options a grayed out setting "Network Operators." This leads me to question, is this phone capable of being used on both GSM and CDMA? If not with factory Sprint settings, possibly something the hardware is able to do unlocked? I just find it interesting that the device offers different network options than the standard CDMA/LTE that I am used to only seeing on and once more there is no carrier branding on the device at all outside of the initial splash screen upon start-up.
What do you guys think?
Before my sprint note 4 was activated, in the apn settings,i was able to edit it as there was nothing in there. Once I had activated the phone it showed the sprint one and had became grayed out being uneditable.

Interesting, thanks for the share. During that brief moment you had in the APN Settings, did it display list of carriers or was it like an actual edit option for you to place input? Im curious to find out if this thing can actually run GSM network sims.

So me being the sly little devil that i am, decided to check my apn's on my phone which turns out, THAT THEY ARE EDITABLE!!!!. So i can know assume that the phone may come factory unlocked and that we should add another carriers apns and sim card to try it out. I believe this is the reason why the phones dont have the carrier branding on them, because they are proprietary to samsung before activation, and then that carrier adds the signed/encrypted packages to the phone. So, with that said.... I NEVER ACTIVATED MY NOTE 4. i SWITCHED BACK TO MY NOTE 3 AFTER I PURCHASED THE PHONE. ( sorry for the caps, pure excitement) Then I skipped the activation and blocked the phones internet access, so here i sit with an non activated sprint note 4. If anyone wants me to test anything let me know!

i stuffed a tmobile sim in and got the invalid sim msg, if its anything like the s4 etc we will need to sim unlock it and then domestically unlock it.
you can always ##786# and enter your MSL to reset the device if you think sprints programming is the thing messing it up, however it really does wipe the device.
its a no go

I can see att and tmobile network, but i did some browsing in the build.prop file and discovered that there is a setting that says uses sprint sim card only. So It turns out that sprint used the same lock method as the note 3 on this. So now im trying some other things, going to look into a jtag and solder directly to the chip to read files and write them, so i can find out whats really going on with this unlock behind the scenes
sim locked
I'm stuck with my sprint galaxy note 4 unactivavted .
Did you guys ever get yours unlocked
if you are still with sprint .
One guy told me that i would have to get Sprint to do a international ulock and that will unlock the sim but the phone has to be active on sprint's network for them to do it
If their is a way to unlock my phone without going to sprint please tell me thanx and good luck

ask sprint to do a " international sim unlock" now because you are going overseas for vacation . they will not do it if you dont just to go to another carrier but thats what I found out after they do that then the phone can be used with another carrier. that is what I didn't do and now they said I would have to get their service two year contract and keep it for 3 months and then they will unlock sim pay early termination fee goodluck
