Currently usb debugging is off so ive had no luck using flashtool. does anyone have any suggestions as to a solution. its still under waranty but i have a crack on the screen so it will cost me $100 to replace it.

My apps such as facebook started to force close so i tried to reboot the phone and it bootlooped.
Did you installed some patches? Mods? Various (root needed) apps?

Can you get a fastboot shell? You will need to have it installed (its part of the android SDK)
Shutdown your phone, hold back and plugin the USB cable.
Light should change color and you should be able to use fastboot to query your phone (getvar version is the best simple test)
From here, flashtool will be able to communicate with your phone and you should be able to flash kernels, etc.
thanks for infomation

Right, problem is, my PC has finally decided to stop doing what what it's supposed to. More specifically, it doesn't put my phone in fastboot mode anymore.
My question is, how do I root on the latest GB firmware? If I root on when .42 firmware, can I flash the .64 firmware while unticking the kernel option? Is that where root is?
I can usually do stuff without asking questions, but this problem is quite specific and couldn't find an answer Google-ing.

Flash the rootxperia.zip in recovery. Then, uninstall superuser and install a newer version of it from google play/market. Press thanks if I helped.
Note: This can be used on any Gingerbread firmware. Also, root will not carry over if you use flashtool.
Can I flash the .64 firmware then flash that?

No No no! Root Does Not make Fastboot work, fastboot is Enabled only on Generic or Devices That have had a SEMCBoot Patch. Your PC is not the Problem Its your Device or Just you.

Sounds like a USB cable problem, or maybe a USB port problem.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
It's a USB port problem.
I was using the dsixda kitchen when my computer switched itself off. I tried the same thing and it switched off at exactly the same point. Ever since then my main USB port stopped working (it was working minutes before). I can't get the drivers for fastboot installed on the other USB port.

I was just about to flash .62 firmware, when I had a thought. How do I get recovery installed without root? Will the auto installer from the market work, or does that need root?

no regardless you need root which is just a simple click you can't get CWM without it the auto staller will not work if you do not have root because it needs su permission
The only way to get root on the .62 firmware with a locked bootloader is to flash .42 and then flash the .62 firmware .zip file which is buried somewhere in android development. Since you can't flash a custom kernel(which root your rom anyways) you can't get into recovery on .62 as installing recovery requires root.
My bootloader is unlocked.
Sounds like a catch 22 situation.
I'll just stick with what I'm on now and wait for an ICS FTF.

It's not a big enough problem to get everything set up on somebody else's computer.
Does anybody know what the driver is called? Maybe I'm going to the wrong folder when trying to manually update it.
Also, when I uninstall the drivers, I get the S1 Boot (or whatever it's called) thing installed but that changes to something like SEMCflash. Is that supposed to happen? Because I read that you need update the S1 one, which disappears/gets replaced.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
If you root it, then OTA, you keep root. Only problem is you can't OTA with an unlocked bootloader.
Try with a different PC?
The drivers are on the Sony unlock site.
I can't install the drivers because the S1boot thing changes to SEMCflash. I get told that it contains no info about my phone or it can't find a better match.

You should be able to override Windows:
Update Driver Software -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> Have disk

I've tried that, that's when I get the messages. When I choose the driver file it says it doesn't contain any information about my device.
I did the same thing with my other USB port and it worked fine til it broke. So why it wont work I have no idea. I still don't know how cooking a ROM can break a USB card.

Don't worry, my phone will be safe.
My PC is useless, I only use it to do phone stuff so, if it can't do that, I may as well have a bit of therapeutic destruction.

I rooted my play, got the CWM installer, did a backup, did a factory reset, then flashed JJ's Hybrid ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573547).
Then I rebooted, but it won't boot. It's just stuck at the "Sony Ericsson" splash screen. I've tried going into recovery, won't work. Also taken the battery out and tried again, but that didn't work either.
I read in another thread that you can't flash with less than 50% charge? Mine may have been at around 48% at the time...
Does anyone know where I went wrong, and more importantly how to get my phone working again?
Is your bootloader unlocked? Because the rom only works with unlocked bootloader

Any idea?
I think I have the same problem. My device is not recognized at all, how am I supposed to use flashtool?
Do you have pc companion and update service installed too? I had the same error with earlier flashtools and installing those two programs seemed to make it work nicely

You could try the Sony Ericsson update service tool: http://sony-ericsson-update-service.en.uptodown.com/
Sorry for the lame link, couldn't find an "official" one, but can confirm the above works. I flashed mine yesterday back to stock with it.

You can unlock the bootloader BUT, you still won't be able to go into fastboot mode. I recommend you to pay someone to unlock your bootloader so that it enables fastboot mode.

Well it prevents you from flashing any official firmware. I.e. downgrading to let's say 2.3.3 from 2.3.4

Doesn't matter if it says no. When it comes to test point method, it pretty much tells it to eff off and unlocks it anyway, with fast boot. That's how I was unlocked. But it costs $24

Basicly if you unlock the bootloader but you still can't go into fastboot mode, then that defeats the purpose of unlocking your bootloader since you need to go into fastboot mode to install custom kernels.

Getting your Phone back to a factory state DOES NOT require you to be rooted or have an unlocked bootloader, the thing that's lacking here is reading, and persistence. You need to figure out getting PC Companion, SEUS, or the Flashtool (Official and un-Official) to work, so as you know what to do, it's over to you to do it, and if it's not working then you're obviously doing something wrong.
i personally prefer flashtool. simple to use and doesnt require root or unlocked bootloader if you're flashing stock ftf.
