I've been loving my new LGOG, but having a minor issue.
Yesterday night and now again this morning i have lost all media volume. All other volume levels work fine. When tying to turn up the volume using the buttons on the side of phone, i see the volume slider but does not increase. I also tied to move the slider on the screen to increase, the slider moves but then after i lift my finger it reverts back to no volume. Both times i noticed, i was using different apps so I'm not sure if it is an app issue or not.
I reboot the phone and fixes it (really fast reboot compared to my last phone). I'm trying to recreate the problem but nothing so far.
Anyone else having this issue?

This happens to me. Usually if I have Netflix open, then try to watch something on hulu or YouTube while Netflix is in the background. Simply closing Netflix seems to fix it for me.

Had this happen once, had to reboot.

I do have netflix and could be the culprit. Will check it out and update.

I saw it once. Even went to the main sound menu to check volume sliders and 2 of them were greyed out. Still not entirely sure what I did to fix it.
I had the same issue. I would turn up the volume and I use 3 different music apps. I turn the volume up and down and it stays the same. I exit one and open the other and no luck. I have to restart the phone in order to get it to work again. I don't like the fact that the volume levels are too low. I installed the DSP Manager and no luck with the performance. I later installed Walkman with sound enhancements and it did help a little. Stll trying to see if there are other solutions.
I've tried to replicate but have been unable to do so. It has only happened to me those 2 times which got me to start this thread.
I don't know if was a fluke or what. Makes no sense.
Anyway, a reboot fixed my issue when it happened.

Having a weird issue where even when I set my sound profile to normal the media volume will not go up. The level indicator pops up in the screen but it simply stays at the minimum with the x next to the speaker. I should note that I normally use switch pro to change this, but it still doesn't work even if I go into settings. A reboot does fix the issue.

I had this same problem last night, and I also use Switch Pro. After I pulled out the battery it went back to normal and now it doesn't do it. In your Switch Pro, do you have "Mute Media Volume" selected? I had it selected on my phone and that's when I had the issue. Before the battery pull I unchecked it and after it it worked normally.
Yea, I do have that checked. I'll try your method and report back.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So I did what you said and the sounds does work now, but the problem is that the silent setting no longer muted the media volume. Switching back to the checked box results in the original issue again... gggggrrrrrrr

Update: looks like its definitely switch. Force killing it returns media sound. Guess we now wait for an update.

I have the same problem but I'm not using switch. I have calculkins Rom with kingx #11. If I put it at mute it won't allow me to up the volume either in settings or on side of phone.
i have exacly the same problem with the sound i still have the stock ROM on it but and i dont use Switch Pro.. pulling the battery does solved the problem so tnx i hope it was a 1x only
Edit: PS i only removed the s-off and rooted the phone
I have problem with my Galaxy Nexus. When the screen is locked and I press the volume up button , the volume goes down first and then up. It is quite weird because with unlocked screen everything is ok.

SOrry to bump an old dead thread but I am also experiencing this problem. Any fix for it?
Disable direct volume control?
Also I stopped using PowerAMP, it was causing my phone to randomly reboot whilst listening to music and doing other tasks. Gone back to google music for now .

Thanks! that worked, but somehow i feel that the sound quality is better with DVC.
I haven't experienced your random reboot problem YET. Been using it for more than a week.

Try increasing the amount of buffering it allows (Poweramp Settings > Audio Engine > Advanced Tweaks > Audio Buffer Size), I felt after increasing that made the sound quality a bit more pleasing.
I don't know why it started, but if I was using PowerAMP, browsing the net, or using it for an extended amount of time doing numerous different things, it would go black for about 10 seconds, then the google logo.
Since uninstalling it and using the stock google music, no issues what so ever lol.
EDIT
Just had a look at the reviews on the marketplace and they seem to be echoing the same issue, but not just the Galaxy Nexus, but ICS in general. Apparently clearing the application data should rectify the problems. I'll give it a try for the next two days and report back.
There's a lot of new beta builds that are available on the power amp forum. I haven't had any issues at all.

Hi there,
I've got an annoying issue with my S3 with any player I use. The music stops playing at some point. It could be either after 3 min or 27 min with headset plugged in or not.
I've checked everywhere and 've seen a lot of people with the same problem but none of them has a proper fix.
I am running stock JB, Canadian Bell version, no root, no flash or any of these.
I didn't activate any motion option or fancy way to stop the player. When I receive a notification of all kind while listening, the player just stops for half a sec and then resume, I believe it is the way it should work.
I would much appreciate some help coz it drives me crazy.
By the way, happy new Year!

I have had a similar problem with my phone ever since I switched to JB. My problem was that once the screen turned off, the player would stop, or stop once the song ends and not start the next song. I did not have this problem with ICS.
For me, I was able to fix it by going into the music app setting and unchecking the box for the screen automatically turning off during music play. However, if I turn the screen off manually the music will stop again either right away or at the end of the song. For now I'm OK just leaving the screen on since I charge the phone when I'm streaming music in the car.
Idk if this will help you or not.

had a friend that was using go locker, when the phone fell to sleep, within a few minutes the music would stop. disabling and renabling go locker fixed it. this phone was not rooted.
I tried disable/enable and uninstall /reinstall and no luck. But, I figured it out that it was due to Juice Defender settings and adjusted them and now Pandora will play when the screen is off.

Well you said you have no motions enabled but just throwing this out there you can turn over to mute/pause under motion control. I don't see how this could be a hardware problem so if you reinstalled stock it shouldn't be happening. If it's not your software then the only thing I could imagine is the encoding of your files. I know from experience that some MP4s from iTunes don't work. idk why.
Hi,
We guys don't seem to have same problem.
Music doesn't stop when screen's off. It just stops randomly.
Any other ideas?

What are you playing music with? (I'm assuming whatever media player comes with stock, but I could be wrong.)
What else do you have running on your phone right now?
I first used the stock media player then tried winamp and now poweramp.
Same problem with any of these.
There is always a lot of apps running in background such as bloat, mail, fb, rss reader, games....
I don't use task killers. I have GSam battery monitor and juice defender.
But as far as I know they don't kill running apps, unless i'm mistaken.

I think we have an answer, folks.
I would suggest going back to basics. There might be some debris in your headphone jack that shorts the "Pause" action. I would blow some compressed air in there, just in case.
Also, didn't S Voice or something have a command to Pause/Play? Maybe you have that on and through casual conversation S Voice is picking it up as Pause?
Thanks for your advise.
Blew some air but just in case but nothing.
S Voice cmd isn't active, I had already turn that off.
I think I'll do a factory reset and see if it fixes it.

I have had this problem off and on ever since I got the phone. It usually happens when I am listening to music and listening to the coaching from my running app (Endomondo Pro). They both work fine for a while then randomly one or both will stop playing through the headphones. I have tried a factory reset multiple times and nothing completely stops this.
Ok
Basically I don't need to bother to do so. Coz to be honest it's a pain in the a.. to do it.
Don't know what to do to fix this.

My PowerAmp developed a similar problem out of the blue just today or within the last few days.
JB 4.1.1 Ultimatum ROM.
Was working fine.
Then noticed it would stop playing after just five seconds, repeatedly.
I uninstalled.
Wiped Cache & Davlik.
Reinstalled and so far, so good. No more problems yet.
Pandora did not have any problems before or after.
Nope, n/m.
As soon as I hooked it up to my dock with DIY USB-OTG cable, PowerAmp started stopping/starting again.
Could be JB or any dozen other things, including my DIY cable.
I'll have to t/s some more.

As I said here:
You are running JuiceDefender.
Someone else in the thread with the same problem was running JuiceDefender.
Said someone else was able to make the problem go away by tinkering with JuiceDefender settings.
Could that possibly be the source of the problem, and a possible solution?
And as I said : we guys don't seem to have the same problem.
My player doesn't stop when screen goes black. My player stops randomly that's it.
He wanted to listen to internet radio while screen's off and just needed to set juice defender properly.
Anyway

If a specific program you're using is causing a similar issue to the one you're experiencing with other users, is it not worth taking a similar approach to solving the problem? If you don't have a sense of what settings in that program might be causing issues, then just stop the program running for a while and see if the problem goes away.
Likewise, if it's something else on your phone causing issues, stop other programs you might be running from running one by one and see if/when the problem goes away.

Umm, I am a she, not a he .
When I researched further, it was Juice Defender turning off the cellular raido that was causing the problem. The screen was a coincidence.
It wouldn't hurt to turn Juice Defender off and see if it still happens, just to rule that out. That way you would know for sure it is something else.
My set up is the same as yours, stock phone (can't remember if you are using ICS or JB), with Juice Defender and GSam Battery Monitor.
I ended up just turning Juice Defender off and putting it on power saving mode and honestly I haven't noticed a difference in performance, and I'm having better battery life than with Juice Defender. I'm getting average 23 hours on a charge and I'm using it a lot (although it does get charged in my car when I'm streaming music). With Juice Defender I was getting average 17 hours on a charge with using it a lot.
Sorry about that!
I did try that already but didn't change a thing.
I think I'll consider rooting it and flashing it.

Hey, i'm new to the forms so i just though i'd give you a background on my problem. Basically at random times when i try to turn up or down the volume the phone won't let me. Its almost like volume is disabled. I thought it could be an app or the recent firmware update but it seems like that ins't the problem. The only way i can get my volume to work is by rebooting my phone. Then i can adjust the volume for a few hours, until it happens again. I've had this problem for about a week now and its extremely annoying. I apologize if this is not in the correct category.
The attached imaged is what it looks like when i cannot adjust my volume.
Same Problem Here
I have the exact same problem. It's very annoying as I pretty much have to restart my phone at least once a day just for some volume.
I've had it happen randomly too. Only solution I've seen is a reboot
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
What roms are you guys using? I see its not stock so if you all have the same one its probably the rom causing the problem.
Odin back to stock snd see if it still happens.

I've had the same thing happened to me twice. The only work around I know of is to reboot the phone. After a few times, I haven't had it happen again (fingers crossed).

I think it's safe to assume it is software related. If a reboot didn't fix it then I would think hardware.
Sent from my LG-D851 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Keeps happening to me also every few days, no idea why.
Happened to my D852. Likely a software issue. I doubt exchanging will do anything.
I haven't had this issue on either of my two G3's, but I'm just tossing some steps out there to see if it might resolve it without rebooting.
Did you try the notification panel button to put it into Vibrate then back to Sound to see if it forces the Vibrate again? Also pushing it into Vibrate causes the phone to Vibrate as you do it. If vibrates doing that, you can assume it's a software issue and not a hardware issue.
Also, in the Settings menu under Sound, did you try checking the Vibrate Strength menu? Perhaps moving those slides might jolt it back or reset it via software without you having to reset your phone.
Just some ideas to see if perhaps using the UI might awake the software settings without rebooting everything to fix it. :silly:

Yep, I tried switching sound modes to quiet, to vibrate, to sound again; and I still can't get vibration to work until a proper reboot.
I have the same issue happening randomly. Has to be software related. Wouldn't stress much on it. I'm sure it will be fixed in a future update. Seems to be a global issue.
And now it happened to me =( I thought it was from deleting bloatware (Stock F400S 10k) but after restarting all work.... I'm thinking about selling G3 for Meizu MX4

I have had this happen once a day at least for the last few days.. A reboot does fix it.. But that doesn't seem to be a solution in the long term to me. I tried the messing with the sounds from the settings menu as well as trying different vibration patterns nothing works.. Its driving me nuts.
