Screenlock and PowerAMP - volume issue. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have problem with my Galaxy Nexus. When the screen is locked and I press the volume up button , the volume goes down first and then up. It is quite weird because with unlocked screen everything is ok.

SOrry to bump an old dead thread but I am also experiencing this problem. Any fix for it?

Disable direct volume control?
Also I stopped using PowerAMP, it was causing my phone to randomly reboot whilst listening to music and doing other tasks. Gone back to google music for now .

Thanks! that worked, but somehow i feel that the sound quality is better with DVC.
I haven't experienced your random reboot problem YET. Been using it for more than a week.

Try increasing the amount of buffering it allows (Poweramp Settings > Audio Engine > Advanced Tweaks > Audio Buffer Size), I felt after increasing that made the sound quality a bit more pleasing.
I don't know why it started, but if I was using PowerAMP, browsing the net, or using it for an extended amount of time doing numerous different things, it would go black for about 10 seconds, then the google logo.
Since uninstalling it and using the stock google music, no issues what so ever lol.
EDIT
Just had a look at the reviews on the marketplace and they seem to be echoing the same issue, but not just the Galaxy Nexus, but ICS in general. Apparently clearing the application data should rectify the problems. I'll give it a try for the next two days and report back.

There's a lot of new beta builds that are available on the power amp forum. I haven't had any issues at all.

VERY odd... varios system sounds are now inaudible...

I noticed this earlier today and it's driving me NUTS!! Various system sounds (so far I've found the dialing tone, lock/unlock click, and default keyboard sounds) all of a sudden are practically inaudible. I can hear them but only if I hold the speaker up to my ear while dialing, typing, etc. All volume levels are turned up all the way like I always have them, what gives?!? I'm very confused by this...
Possibly blown speakers? Have you tried music?
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
are you sure your system volume is up? You can check it with Audio Manager.
Uhh yeah like I said, all volume levels are ALL the way up.
Nope not blown as ringtones, etc. come through the speaker just fine.
You running stock? Try a reset/clean flash?
Yes everything is stock and I'm trying to avoid the obvious (resetting the phone)
Are all of these things y'all have suggested not obvious to the average user? I don't mean to be rude in the least but I always try several things to fix an issue before I seek out help...

haha. you may be surprised sometimes Always got to cover all the bases.
I have no idea what's causing you issues, but I experience something sort of simlar, and have yet to figure it out. I don't use any audio feedback or lockscreen unlock sounds or anything like that. My ringer and notifications always work fine. The thing for me that is odd, is my boot animation sound. No matter what sound I use, it plays halfway through EXTREMELY loud, and then it suddenly cuts to about 1/3 the volume that it started playing at. It's random, and doesn't happen every time, but definitely enough for me to notice. I have no idea what causes it, but wouldn't be surprised if it's the same type of issue.
Download an app called audio manager. Your system volume got stuck down and won't go up without that type of app, since we cannot change it in settings.

+1 same thing happened to me and that was the only way i could fix it
AudioManager allows you to change the system sound settings, which is otherwise impossible via the standard Android interface. That solved my problem.

Volume Issues?

I've been loving my new LGOG, but having a minor issue.
Yesterday night and now again this morning i have lost all media volume. All other volume levels work fine. When tying to turn up the volume using the buttons on the side of phone, i see the volume slider but does not increase. I also tied to move the slider on the screen to increase, the slider moves but then after i lift my finger it reverts back to no volume. Both times i noticed, i was using different apps so I'm not sure if it is an app issue or not.
I reboot the phone and fixes it (really fast reboot compared to my last phone). I'm trying to recreate the problem but nothing so far.
Anyone else having this issue?

This happens to me. Usually if I have Netflix open, then try to watch something on hulu or YouTube while Netflix is in the background. Simply closing Netflix seems to fix it for me.

I do have netflix and could be the culprit. Will check it out and update.

I saw it once. Even went to the main sound menu to check volume sliders and 2 of them were greyed out. Still not entirely sure what I did to fix it.
I had the same issue. I would turn up the volume and I use 3 different music apps. I turn the volume up and down and it stays the same. I exit one and open the other and no luck. I have to restart the phone in order to get it to work again. I don't like the fact that the volume levels are too low. I installed the DSP Manager and no luck with the performance. I later installed Walkman with sound enhancements and it did help a little. Stll trying to see if there are other solutions.
I've tried to replicate but have been unable to do so. It has only happened to me those 2 times which got me to start this thread.
I don't know if was a fluke or what. Makes no sense.
Anyway, a reboot fixed my issue when it happened.

Notification/ volumes sounds changes to very low by its self.

OK this problem has been bugging me. Its started a few weeks back and i thought when i updated to 4.3 it would go away. But no luck.
Here is the problem. I have a Samsung S3 SGH I747M on Rogers was on 4.1.2 stock rom rooted. Now im on 4.3 stock rom rooted.
My phone keeps changing the notification/ all volumes on it own to very low. I can hardly hear it. I reboot my phone and its back to normal and all volumes are were i set them. Now i did notice that when it does go very low all my volume sliders go to the max position but everything will be very low.
Its driving me crazy. I have uninstalled several apps that i thought might be causing the problem but nothing seems to fix it. My next step is to do a factory reset. Which i really don't want to do as i have my phone set up the way i like it.
I'm hoping some of you phone gurus out there can help me find this annoyance.
Thanks.
Wow. No reply's. I guess nobody has had this problem before. Ill keep looking.
My volume dips occasionally, but I'm on pacman Rom with viper4android installed. In my case it happens when viper decides to randomly crash.

Did you have any audio mods installed ? If so then that might have caused the problem because to fully uninstall those you have to remove some of their system files or if they changed your build.prop you might have to undo the changes.
Other than that im not really sure what might be causing it.

I don't have any audio mods installed. I do have poweramp audio player and tasker installed and Tasker does not seem to work good now since the 4.3 update. Well its looking more and more like im going to do a factory reset. ugg!
Does anybody know a way to restore the phone back to the settings and the way it looks now after a factory reset?

I have the same issue. I uninstalled Ram Booster and disabled Power Savings Mode. Problem still exists but volume change is much less. Also ,it happens exactly when screen turns off. Factory reset did not solve it for me.

I just started experiencing this issue as well. Never noticed it before as I always had my phone on silent for school but now that im on vacation I turned the sound back on and I can't hear the locking and unlocking sounds unless the phone is right next to my ear. The keyboard and the basic touch sounds are very quiet too. Wondering if you managed to fix this problem ?

Hey Florad77,
Yes i did manage to fix it. Tasker is the culprit. Its not playing nice with the 4.3 update. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and everything was working fine. No volume changes. Then i set up some tasks, simple ones like turn off my Bluetooth when i leave my truck etc. And low and behold the sound issues came back. It must be when tasker trys to run tasks that it F,s everything up in the phones settings for sound. I just uninstalled it again and i also removed secure settings as well. Here is a review of Tasker from google play with the same sound problems.
Bob Porvan November 30, 2013
Sound notifications don't work... After the recent update, notifications stopped playing sound files, unlike always. A power related task keeps firing when it's not supposed to. 4.3.yuga.pac

I hope this fixes your problem. Mine is work just fine now after the uninstall.
Volume issues fixed.
OK. I was still having the problem even after deleting most of the apps i thought were causing the problem. But had no luck fixing the volume issue. I remembered my son saying he has had a problem with his phone not connecting to the Bluetooth also but his had a different error. So i asked him what his issue was and he said every time he tries to connect he gets an error saying "unable to play during call" So i googled his problem and found the answer and it fixed his Bluetooth error. I then checked my own settings and changed it also and if fixed mine.
So If you use text plus go to settings and unselect enable incoming calls, and that will fix the unable to play during call error when using your music player over Bluetooth. And like me if your also having volume issues after connecting to Bluetooth it will fix that also. Make sure to reboot your phone after the change.
I hope this helps somebody as this problem has been driving me crazy for months now. I was so close to doing a factory reset and re flashing the rooted 4.3 rom again.

The problem with the volume that you are facing is because of a secret call in the background via Hangouts.
Basically Hangouts connects a call with someone in the background without user's interaction and phone goes into call mode.
And in call mode volumes are adjusted appropiately as it should be in a normal call and all the sounds come out of earpiece.
If you turn off Hangouts, you will not get this problem again.
Hit Thanks!, if it helps

Low call volume in CM11. My wife's job is on the line!

So my wife will be getting a call for a phone interview this Wednesday, and she's concerned about a recent issue with her AT&T S3 running on CM11 nightly 3/22. Her in-call volume is always extremely low regardless of how high the volume is set for calls. I have heard other accounts of this issue cropping up on various devices with builds of CM11 dating back to last year, but I've never come across a fix.
Has anyone encountered this and then resolved it permanently? My wife is very stressed worrying about not being able to hear the interviewer when they call in two days.
Try a different rom, tasks aokp has always been loud for me.
Making the iPhone jealous one user at a time.

CM11 is available in stable. Why would you/she want to run the phone on a nightly? Guess you have enough time before Wednesday to update to either a stable version or go stock - even if only for the interview.
If you rely on your phone as a phone and actually need it up and running 100% all day everyday, you should be on the stock ROM. I'm sorry but all of these AOSP ROMs are full of bugs that get annoying after a while; one of them being the low call volume.

I lol'd even more at your useless post. I use stuff like V4A and Xposed (if you even know what that is) all the time from this site. You can be on XDA and still expect your phone to work. I was just pointing out that low call volume has always been an issue on a lot of AOSP ROMs, and if you need to use your phone to make a lot of phone calls, you should be on the STOCK ROM.
I'm on an aosp ROM, and I use my phone to make a lot of calls, so you're saying I need to be on stock ROM? Lol... What is "stuff like v4a and xposed"? Sounds complicated for us simple folks. :silly:
Bro, I've been on aosp ROMs since day one.. And never had any issue from phone.apk
BTW I'm not sure of cm still have this but in advance option setting and under sound, there's an option to gain extra volume for voice call.. Try it out and stop with the stock joke Lol

My S3 has been on CM since the day I got it, and CM11 since it came out, and on nightlies. Never had a single issue with call volume. As a matter of fact, I found that CM11 nightlies were overall a lot more stable than even the stock 4.3..
Since she's expecting important calls, you may get her sim card on your phone while you fix the phone for her.

CM11 is only nightly on d2lte.
I would say if you use it for work and if you're wife doesn't know too much about AOSP, go back to stock.
I had this same exact problem on my Galaxy S3. All my volume settings are at highest, and even when i press the volume up rocker during the call, it doesn't get louder. HERE'S THE SOLUTION THO (after countless hours of trying many, many different things)! Not sure if this works for other phones.
During the call, if you press the volume button, you should see the volume level bar with the "settings" icon next to it appear on your screen (look at the screen while the call is in progress). Press the "settings" button to open up the volume menu. If you're having low volume, you probably have all the volumes at their max. Put your finger on the volume slider and just move it lower then back higher, and you should notice that the volume goes higher than it was before. It's almost like it's stuck at what it thinks is the MAX level, and by sliding it back and forth, it's "unstucking" it, and allowing it to go higher to the true max level. Not sure why it does this, but after doing this, it should remain at the new higher volume for the next calls. I did notice that if you adjust the volume lower for anything else (say when you're watching a video, or turning it down because the ringer or notification sound is too loud), then it will get back to the low call volume and you have to slide it again to get it unstuck.
If anyone knows how to report this issue to the CM 11 coders, please forward...
Hope that helps!

It's so simple, but this is what worked for my wife. Apparently she had just been mashing the volume up button the whole time. I forgot to report back in this thread after we discovered that.

Has anyone found a fix for the sound cutting out after a few seconds of a video or game? I have tried the soubdabout app, Turing the USB option off, disable Power save.. Still happening..

Hmm, I keep mine out of a case,.. Yeah I'm not sure what it is, it's a 50/50 between some say software and some say hardware. I would asume that software would of been fixed by now, either Samsung or 3rd party

So I found a solution for the issue in my case, it does seem to be software but it's really weird cause the issue continues in any firmware, it started when I was on 6.0.1 PI2, then I flashed Nougat and had the same problem (I hated it and battery drain was killing me) I went back to 6.0 and changed to the PK2 version and the issue continued, it was really weird cause it would cut out in audio messages, games but not music, I also tried every single suggestion on every forum and post I could find EXCEPT the Soundabout app, today I gave up, installed soundabout, selected media to speakers and bam, problem solved, I still need further testing, but it seems ok for now, keep in mind that I also have "prevent USB audio routing" on and "Easy Mute" off.
