[Q] Decompress .app files (not firm, but Kies downloads)

Hi guys!
That is the question! Is there any way to decompress the files we download from Kies?
When we download any app, theme, whatever from Kies a file with .app extension is created in ...\samsung\Kies\Download\Applications.
As it is not an .app file from firm, it is not possible to open it with Trix.
Can we open it to see what it's got? Anyone knows?
Thanks in advance!
you can see its contents if you open it with 7zip but you can't extract !!
The *.app file is encyrepted in some how but during installation it gets decyrepted and become *.oap file then copied to the phone then installed
If you are fast enough or your app is too big you will be able to catch *.oap file from either the PC or the phone
Please search more because Adfree explained this several times already
Best Regards
http://zirconia.samsungapps.com/rightIssueRequest.as
All ways leads to Zirconia... some DRM stuff...
Anyway. No really need to "convert" *.app from Kies.
Kies and handset do this for you.
If you can't install anymore this *.app with Kies, then at the moment no idea.
Best Regards

Sorry, sorry . I had read that post already but I didn't think it had relationship, because I thought the thing of .oap was different to the decompression of the .app.
I mean, with the .oap we can see the folders and files with 7zip, but we cannot see what is inside if we are downloading a theme for example. That's what I'm trying to check in to the .app downloaded by Kies.
Theme type 2 are Flash content with *.swf files included... protected by AES128... dcf.
You can't see anything yet. No way known to find/catch smt file for investigation...
Real bada apps with *.exe file in Bin folder are not so hard protected.
No idea why...
You can extract all files from oap... It is simple ZIP.
But you need to catch last state of Chain...
Apps are NOT Themes and Themes are NOT same kind of Themes...
Themes are NOT apps.
There are differences, BIG differences in protection.
If you want themes edit like Gorilla, you have NO chance at the moment.
Sorry.
Best Regards

if we are downloading a theme for example.

You have to understand. That 2 types of themes...
The old one... thousends *.smt files...
The new one... like Gorilla.
These are Flash content, special protected to prevent catch *.smt.
Which is again ZIP.
If you unpack gorilla.app from Kies you will find gorilla.smt.DCF.
Deadend.
Fash Themes are encrypted on Samsung Server, You download encrypted DCF Theme.
NO differences between Kies or store on handset...
SAME file, SAME store (Server) SAME protection.
Come back, if you understand difference between bada app and theme.
Otherwise it makes no sense for deeper research.
Best Regards
Absolutely!!
I have already checked.
.oap from apps, non encrypted
.oap from Gorilla, hidden
So it is exactly that way, these themes get their encryptation in Servers instead of the phone.
Good thing. We can check manifest.xml and/or application.xml without the encode. Maybe someday we can put facebook and twitter apps in a modified firm again.
Best regards!

[Guide][tip]adding text that appears while flashing a rom from cwm

Okay so this guide is for peoples (and everyone who are intrested) who requested me to demostrate how to manupulate the text that comes im cwm screen during flashing of a custom rom
****I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MESSING OF BRICKING YOUR PHONE SO PLEASE TRY ON YOUR OWN RISK****
First decompress the rom (you should know how to do that if you are trying to mod it or use search button )
For custom text, you have to edit updater-script
If you dont have any knowledge of updater-script then:
***DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING EXEPT WHAT I DO OR YOU MAY MESS UP YOUR ROM***
You may find the it here at:
META-INF/com/google/android/*here*
**do a Backup of the file first**
use ONLY but ONLY notepad++ for opening the updater-script or it may get currupted
Add this in given format::
ui_print("TEXT should be here");
(Note: you can add many lines in the given format if you want many lined texts while flashing)
Add your text start at top in tje format as mentioned and save the updater-script and replace it with original in the rom
Now compress the rom again and make a flashable zip...
And you're ready to see your custom text while flashing it via cwm
Credits: all xda dev who are amazing teachers..
Ps. Its my first thread so correct me if something is wrong
press THANKS if i helped you in any way
Cheers

lol
I use Notepad (not Notepad++) and it never gets corrupted. To be honest, any text editor will do, so long as you don't mess up in your editing.

Im generally recommending notepad++ for editing files..plus i said it MAY corrupt the file..its just a precaution for my future posts where you (in general) may want to edit xml files and opening with notepad will corrupt it...for example try opening build.prop next time with notepad you'll know what im talking about

Why do you have to be so irritating :/
Just simple to understand line:
DONT POST IF YOU DONT HAVE SOMETHING TO ASK RELATED TO THREAD
grow up guys
back to topic or malybru come here
The reason why you should use notepad++ is due to the way windows handles the return key (and other functions)
If you make a new line (ie press enter) windows and Linux handles this differently and may cause the script to fail unless using the way Linux interpretates it by using notepad++
Anyway there are plenty of threads in xda that go into far more detail & explain all the commands of the updater script so I suggest if you want more details please search

Technically nothing was deleted, the DevDB files just were not migrated to the new servers.

They are to be available again according to this post.
Any updates to this may be posted in Post #1 or Post #2
Finally had some time to set this up!
DevDB downloads are available here: https://devdb.xda-developers.com/
https://devdb.xda-developers.com/
Tip:
Search for a filename or a unique part of the file name.
After you find one file copy the link and paste it somewhere like a search bar.
you will get a link like this.
https://devdb.xda-developers.com/3/1/8/0/otterx-u-boot_v2.01.zip
Remove the file name and this is the link to the folder with all files from that project.
https://devdb.xda-developers.com/3/1/8/0/
Or you can navigate to folders 3/1/8/0 for example.

Server seems to be a bit unstable at the moment.
When using the search function after tapping 2 or 3 characters the website freezes (tested on Firefox Beta and Chrome stable, both mobile). See attached screenshots.
Nevertheless nice to have it and I'm sure that are just some starting difficulties.

same here, if you wait a bit it usually allows you to continue typing, or try pasting text.
Actually it is just not really meant for scale. The search is slow and likely involves a lot of Javascript so it's freezing the browser.
There are just a lot of files that are only important for a handful of people that I can tell, I wanted to keep them accessible. If anyone wants to mirror them, please let me know and I will rsync them to your server. It's about 2.7TB
