I would know that too, bluetooth is so slow

Check file expert from store. It at least used to have a option to share via wifi when long pressing on a file.

Not working , nothing works I was trying with note 2 I cant recieve or even send...

I'm not sure about on Jellybean but ICS and under, all interphone dating fails. HTC implemented the specifications to make it all work incredibly poorly.

Has anyone used WiFi direct?

I tried sending files between 2 galaxy nexus since Bluetooth is completely broken, I activated Wi-Fi in both devices but when I try to share an image wifi doesn't show up in the sharing options, gas anyone here used successfully?

Sadly from what I've read we can't utilize it within the built in settings it requires an app to work. What app is the question as well as why? really wish it would work.

no one app out for wifidirect
try out last cyanogenonmod rom, have a built in advanced setting for wifidirect (able to search, associate ecc.. )
Any luck with this so far? is this feature completely useless? :silly:

So i'm conflicted.

For some reason on GB I am unable to download roms on my phone but I can have a functioning tether. But on ics its the total opposite. I have no Internet at home due to lack of funds but my girlfriend want to do her usual Facebook browsing on the computer.
Is there any wifi tether apps that you would suggest or is there an ics rom that I may have overlooked that has it working?

search the market wireless thether u need root
Sprint Hotspot works flawlessly on the Blu Kuban ICS rom. Haven't had it working on any others yet.
Seems to me the answer is to fix your gb roms. My issue with downloads on gb roms has been one of two things ; need to download "download all" app from market or move/delete files from download folder to make room.

On ics there is wifi tether for root users, get from market. Just set device to galaxy nexus cdma and it works great for 4g tether.
On gb foxfi works well

It WORKS!!
FIRST thanks to TrevE > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
now how it works on the SPRINT NOTE 2
stock rooted w/ latest update PALJC
if not already then update Super-SU from the market
if not already then install busybox from the market *(open the busybox app and click install on lower left)
download the latest version of TrevE's wifi tether in the above link on the first post
open wifi tether, grant SU.....then turn on wifi tether as normal and it should be working.
edit: encryption now works with TrevE's 11-18 nightly found in above link
Thanks, I can confirm it's working on viper's test rom. I'm tethering my Transfomer Infinity, as I type this.

WiFi Direct

Yes I know I posted in a wrong section of the forum!
BUT
I need this to be working what the use of having it if it doesn't work.. I can't recieve or send anything thru it from in every Rom wether stock or custom tried with s3 and note 2 and it always fails while they both transfer files at light speed I sit n watch we need help

Wi-Fi direct is used to play your music and stuff at a capable TV through Wi-Fi.
Works like a charm over here with a Samsung ES7000 series TV. I just start the music, tap Choose Player, hit the TV and the TV switches to the music player which I can control with both the remote and my phone. It is NOT used to transfer files between 2 phones. Use Beam for that.

Lol, no. I'm not.
I asked this question at HTC, they told me WiFi Direct isn't used for transferring files. It's used to send 'small media' such as music to a TV or other WiFi Direct capable devices without the use of HTC Media Link HD.
I have tested this, and confirmed it.
You cannot send files through built-in WiFi functions at this moment, except when you use 3rd party apps.

This statement says you have some sort of self-importance complex, you know you have posted in the wrong forum, but justify it by making out your problem is so much more important than others. Just because you feel its a important problem, it does not give you the right to abuse the rules. Now post in the correct forum in the future!
EDIT: I also removed the [MOD] tag, as its not a mod.

You can share any file using wifi-direct, which in the end is what s-beam uses to transfer

Wifi-direct is a p2p connection so it does not require a router or network. It basically behaves like phone - phone Bluetooth Connection except it has the faster wifi transfer speeds.
If the other phone is not being detected, there is some security or setting that needs to be changed.
S-beam uses nfc to secure the p2p link and uses Wifi - direct to transfer.
Android beam uses nfc to link but uses Bluetooth to transfer.

A friend and I were playing with the wifi direct, and it took us a while to get it working properly.
We would turn on wifi and then go into wifi direct... It would scan and pick up the other person's device. Connect to it as you would bluetooth and then you can send files by going to the file you wish to send and long press-share via wifi direct, select the device you wish to send it to and off it goes. A 1.3GB avi file takes about 2 mins to transfer.

So connect to wifi direct first before selecting files. Noted thx

I know this is probably a noob question but what would be the maximum range you can use to transfer files between two Note 2's through wifi direct?

Not sure about the exact number, but it's longer than bluetooth. I haven't had any disconnections so it definitely works within 15-20m
