[Q] WiFi Not Working after Unlock and Root - HTC One V

I have a PrimoC phone that I unlocked and rooted then I installed TWRP and made a backup. I did not bother connecting to WiFi before doing this, but the phone was showing that it wwas receiving signal from VM. After installing TWRP with Hasoon2000's AIO and making a backup, I went to Settings so I could connect to WiFi and download MSL reader. WiFi is on, but the phone can't find any networks and it is no longer connecting to VM.
Any ideas what's wrong?
Phone is Primo C, CDMA

flash boot. img in bootloader via cmd...
Sent from my HTC One V

Where can I get that for the stock ROM? I've flashed the boot.img of custom ROMs on other phones, but not stock.

Open up the ROM zip from a stock ROM and pull out the boot.IMG. I'm sure there's some rooted stock ROMs posted in your dev section. Or from a nandroid backup from a stock ROM, if you have one.

So would this work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754036
or the Sprint one here?
http://www.filefactory.com/f/0eafb9c43276c308/

Alright, I flashed the boot.img, but it didn't make a difference. Still no WiFi or connection to VM.

Flashed boot.img a couple of times and rebooted a couple of times. No WiFi or service. What can I do?

Hi, maybe your device has lost It's IMEI. Would you mind posting the first 4 numbers of your imei found in about phone? Thanks.
Sent from my awesome HTC One V using Tapatalk 2

I don't see an IMEI anywhere... Do you mean IMSI? If so, first 4 digits are 3100
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I ported my number to P+, so I don't have a working phone until I get this to work. I flashed another one of these HTC One Vs last weekend without this problem, so I'm not sure how I ran into it this time...

I recommend using SickKernel for Sense roms. Did you flash a kernel through fastboot yet? And did you flash any module files?

No I didn't flash a kernel through fastboot, nor did I on another HTC One V that worked fine last weekend.
I unlocked the phone with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964
rooted with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751004
Then I installed TWRP and perm rooted by following Hassoon2000's guide and while using his AIO.
This is the same process I followed last week and it worked fine then. The only difference I can think of this time was I didn't even attempt to connect to WiFi before starting this process.
Thanks for the help.

Someone on another forum gave me a .zip called "Jmz-PrimoC-kernel-ICS-20120820". I flashed the boot.img from it and now the phone boots to the VM loading screen and then turns off and continuously reboots and the process repeats.
EDIT: I flashed the .zip and still have the same problem. I'm wiping the cache, dalvick cache, and doing a factory reset and then restoring a backup.
EDIT 2: Restored the backup, it loaded up the phone normally without the reboot this time. I unlocked the phone and a second later it powered off again and now it's rebooting continuously, but it makes it to the normal screen now before doing so.
Really need a phone for work guys. Please help me.

Alright, I did this on a second phone I got for my wife to try and figure out where I went. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted by following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964
WiFi worked after that and VM bars were showing up.
I then booted into Bootloader and opened Hasoon2000's HTC One V AIO Kit. I clicked on TWRP CDMA 2.1.0 and then clicked 'Flash Recovery'. The recovery flashed successfully.
I then made a backup successfully and rebooted. When I rebooted, I was getting 'No Service' and my WiFi doesn't work either.
I may have actually had WiFi and service after I flashed TWRP, but before I made the backup. I think I did, but I'm not sure. Anyways, all that is above is everything I have done with this phone since taking it out of the box. No idea what's wrong.
Please help.
EDIT: When I scan for WiFi on the 2nd phone, I am now finding my network, but strength is always poor or fair and it won't connect.

If the imei really is lost, you will not have a chance but taking it to the HTC service try flashing cwm instead of twrp, maybe that changes something
Sent from my awesome HTC One V using Tapatalk 2

How would I know if the IMEI is lost? I just don't see anywhere it would be in the settings under about phone. Can I just flash CWM over TWRP?

I followed this:
http://www.androidauthority.com/one-v-clockworkmod-recovery-6-0-1-2-custom-recovery-115527/
and flashed CWM.
Still no WiFi or service. I don't need service with this phone, but I do need WiFi.
EDIT:
OK, so I am getting WiFi on the 2nd phone, but it's weak. When I'm right next to my router only the circle fills up on the meter and occasionally one bar will with it. Still no service though.

Hi, well I do not know the exact noun for this, but you can see it at settings, about phone, phone-identity. Sort for my bad English sometimes, I'm from Germany
Sent from my awesome HTC One V using Tapatalk 2

Under phone identity I only see Phone Name, Model Number, Device Serial Number, MEID, MEID Decimal, Phone Number, and IMSI. No IMEI. I checked a friend's working HTC One V he got on the CM sale too and he doesn't have an IMEI under phone identity and his phone works fine.
Also, I am now getting WiFi on the 2nd phone, but it's weak. When I'm right next to my router only the circle fills up on the meter and occasionally one bar will with it. Still no service though. When I go up to my room where another HTC One V running AOKP says ~35% signal, this phone drops.
Thanks for helping me.

You do have the back cover on right? Did you root both phones with Hasoons program?
Sent from my HTC One V using xda app-developers app

Strange. I've set the language of my phone to english for testing, and I'm getting this (1st screenshot).
Instead of using About Phone, you could try opening the dialpad and dialing *#06# (star pound zero six pound). Now a text box like in my 2nd screenshot should pop up. Please only tell me the first four digits, because an IMEI is unique and private.
EDIT: zmk76 is right, in the back cover is the antenna built-in, so signal drop without the back cover is normal (I have really heavy signal drops without the back cover)

No service after reflashing to stock [Solved]

Had my nexus rooted since day 1 and never had any issues. Lately i've been trying to use Barclay's Pingit app which doesn't work on rooted devices. So i reflashed to stock through the galaxy nexus toolkit. I did get service on the stock rom, but i've since tried a nandroid restore of my CM10 and it appears to have screwed something up. First off, the restore completed in 4 seconds, so it obviously didn't work. I'm using TWRP if that makes any difference.
So i tried a wipe and flash other roms, but still no service. Even after going back to stock, still no service. I'm assuming the botched nandroid restore has possibly damaged my radio somehow? I did try to flash another radio, and it flashes ok, but still no service.
APN settings are fine. All i get though when i try to connect to a network is "Can't connect to this network at the moment, please try again later".
I'm on 3 UK. Tried connecting to other networks, but still the same issue
Just tried flashing a new radio through fastboot, flashes fine and shows up in baseband version, but still no service...
Have you tried getril app? If your radio interface layer doesn't match it can fix it.

Yeah i tried it earlier, no luck.
Just tried again to make sure, still nothing
I have had some bad flashes with twrp. If I were you I would try cwm and then flash a new ROM.

Op, do you still have your imei? Try another simcard have you?
Sent from my i9250
Yeah i've tried several new rom flashes through CWM.
@bk201doesntexist - Yeah the phone has an IMEI in the status menu. I'm wondering if it's blocked since my provider accidentally cancelled my contract a few months ago, and i didn't say a word
Scrap that actually, apparently Three UK can't block IMEI's for some reason...
Funnily enough, i tried a sim card from another carrier and not only did it not connect to any network, but now when i go to search networks it just says "Error while searching for networks".
Edit - Called my network provider, they said my IMEI was wrong. At the minute it starts with 0049, which it shouldn't apparently. I dunno how this got changed in the first place.
Ok, so i've looked into the imei 0049 issue and it's starting to make sense. I looked in the /factory folder and it's empty, well apart from lost+found but it's empty. I assume the only option is to send it off for repairs? I do still have a nandroid backup on my computer and it has efs.ext4.win on there. Gonna give that a shot.
Edit 2 - Ok so I updated TWRP as my version was 2.2. Attempted the nandroid restore again and success! Got my voice and data back!
Thanks for the suggestions, its been a stressful day and hope this can help somebody else in a similar position
Yeah i forgot mentioning the fake imei thing. I was thinking about the /factory partition being null, thats why i spoke of imei.
Please edit the thread title to include tag [SOLVED]. Thanks.

[Q] Insert Sim to Access Network Service.. IMEI Null

Hey Guys,
I have an AT&T Model SGH-1317 Note 2. For use on other networks, I unlocked the phone using the *#197328640# menu option. However, the phone failed to start the hot spot stating Mobile data was unavailable or Invalid Sim. However, I am able to tether perfectly using the same sim on an another S3 so I was sure its nothing to do with the sim or network operator settings.
I looked up and found XDA website with tons of information. I assumed my phone was locked by AT&T. Hence, I rooted the phone using CF-Auto-Root, backed up complete data using Titanium and using Rom Manager I installed the Crash Aroma 4.1.2 Rom. I wiped the data and cache 3 times as suggested. However, after the boot I am unable to connect to any mobile network. A Click on Mobile Network says "Insert Sim Card to Access Network Services". Dialling for IMEI number prompt a Null.
During Installation I noticed the Crash ROM has overwritten the Radio.. and I am assuming this is were the problem lies. but I leave it you experts.. Request Help!
Sunil.

Am currently on Du - A network in Dubai, UAE. I have been reading more forum information and some suggest that this may be related to the EFS folder getting corrupted which may cause the IMEI number to fail. Some suggest that there are software to rebuild this information by using the IMEI number behind the handset..
I also noted that my phone model has also changed to GT-7100 instead of SGH-1317, Wonder if the Crash ROM was apt?
Would you suggest installing a Jedi Rom specifically built for SGH-1317... or is the damage already done?
Back Online
Since I found no replies.. I had no choice but to give it to the Pros.. I handed my phone day to one of the Unlocking experts at a mobile store… He was confident that his technicians would resolve this. But after 2 Days, they have given up.. He suggested the phone would fetch me US$ 10 if someone used it as a demo unit at a mobile shop..
I was sure this was something to do with the Modem, IMEI and the all important NV folder. I was able to find a Stock ROM for the SGH-1317 and I also found a link at XDA about using EFS pro to change the IMEI.
Using Odin software, I flashed the phone with the stock rom. Unfortunately, there was one error when it tried to communicated on com1. Having no choice, I continued. Restarting got the AT&T style boot but it again froze on the Samsung screen. Dreading the communication error, I restarted several times with no results. Finally I realised if would be due to the cache and user data. I reset the phone to factor settings wiping out the user data and Whola.. The phone sprang back up..
Lessons learnt.. Backup your rom and data before playing with custom roms. Read Read Read and don’t flash in the middle of the night..
Since I am back online, I plan to stick to the stock and crappy 4.1.1 with all the AT&T dead weight. Will live without the ability to Tether until my fingers get warmer.. It won’t be long as I am already bit by the Custom Rom Devil..
Don't Give Up Easy..:good::victory:

Please I am having the very exact same issue and can't seem to have it fixed
Using CMW I also flashed it back to stock rom, didnt have any problem or errors doing it but im still getting No SIM Inserted. I have deleted cache and user data several times... Tried flashing CM10 and CrashRom see if they made a difference and still No Sim Inserted... tried 3 different kernels and still same issue
I have the exact same problem since yesterday. I've tried everything and anything to no avail. I'm very close to returning the phone.
I would really appreciate any input.
Same issue
I flashed crash rom 4.5, over the stock kernel and it gave me that same message. I've tried everything I could think of, which included everything in this thread to no avail... any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your username suggests that you have the N7100 device ??
If so. ..you are in the wrong place for support. ..As this is the SGH-I317 section.
If you are showing IMEI NULL with no baseband you may have to restore your backup image to correct the problem. .
If no backup image exists. ..you will need to flash a factory N7100 image from your section.
Look for the return to stock thread for your specific device and that should fix you up...
The CF AUTO ROOT files are device specific. ..so I hope you haven't damaged the partitions.
Good luck. ..g

Need support from Virgin Mobile, want to return to stock

I have an issue where everything works fine on my rooted Stock ROM except the 3g.
Previously I had rooted this device (before I activated), kept everything stock except I wanted to be able to make backups with TWRP and to run Adaway so I didnt have ads everywhere. Everything was working fine on my wifi connection.
My older LG phone started having battery issues so I decided it was time to switch to the rooted HTC One V. Activated it, all seemed fine (phone works and wifi works) then I discovered the 3g is intermittent. I suspect there is something wrong at VM with my account because when I bought the next month's service after swapping phones on their site it remained at the old rate of $25. (should have gone up to $35).
This seemed great until i realized my 3g only seems to work 30% of the time, so I put in a support ticket and waiting on a return email or call.
ANYHOW, I'm guessing I'd be better off if I returned this phone to its original unrooted state before I deal with support. Is it as simple as relocking the bootloader then running the RUU on it?
In other words:
1. `fastboot oem lock`
2. Run the RUU
3. I'm good to go?
Or is there more?
TIA
To return to stock yeah that works. Bootloader will say relocked instead of locked though so that may cause some trouble with support but this is the closest you'll get to the state your phone was in when you received it.

You will also need to reflash the original stock recovery. I attached it for you (pulled from the RUU).

Ugh... It's not flashed when the RUU is run? I did have TWRP on there.
So far I:
-re-locked
-ran RUU
-booted into stock ROM.
So now I go into fastboot and:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img ??
HTC is confusing compared to my LG phone and my Kindle Fire Tablet Pardon my ignorance!
I think I resolved the issue myself, the email VM finally sent basically had me shut off wifi and run the stock diags for the 3g connection, which seemed to work about 20-30% of the time. It then had me manually do the ##847446# re-program which seemed to do nothing. it turned out it was all a waste and a silly SNAFU.
The errors I would get intermittently were:
Data Call Failure - Error Code 104
Data Call Failure - Error Code 129
Data Call Failure - Error Code 67
Mostly 104.
How did it get fixed? Well, it's now running 3g steadily for 30 minutes 6 hours now, before it was a minute tops before failure.
Apparently, I left the phone I had swapped out running, planning to use it around the house for various boring things. It had the same MSID and MDN obviously, and apparently this was causing conflicts whenever it tried to grab an IP address from Virgin Mobile. I fixed the issue by pulling the battery on the old phone I had swapped from.
Doh!
[edit] edited to verify it actually is fixed this time. So sick of fiddling with everything over the last 2 days.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Nexus; signal/3G issues

Sprint Galaxy Nexus
4.2.1
Not rooted
I performed a factory reset on my phone yesterday due to it bogging down and being rather slow. I never did a reset after getting the 4.2.1 update so I figured it was a good time. I woke up this morning, putzed around the house, and setup Tasker again. I laid my phone down for ten minutes while I got ready for work. Whenever I tried to wake my phone and nothing happened. I tried a few more times and the screen would not wake up. I pulled the battery, hard reset, reinserted battery and the phone wouldn't turn on. Then, I wiped the contact terminals (on the battery and the phone) and reinserted the battery and the phone booted up. However, since then I have had some major problems.
1. Power button does not always work properly. I have to press it several times to sleep or wake the phone. (Okay, not major, just inconvenient and probably unrelated to the issues below)
2. No data connection whatsoever.
3. In the data usage menu, there is no longer a data toggle switch.
4. Under the Network Mode option, LTE/CDMA produces absolutely no cell signal whatsoever. I have to switch to CDMA only. (WiFi works fine)
5. Toggling airplane mode, as some have suggested, does not cause the phone to connect to mobile data. Another factory reset did not restore mobile data. Rebooting did not restore mobile data.
6. All of these problems are true before and after factory reset. No new problems were created and nothing was exacerbated as a result of performing a factory reset.
I've been from one end of the internet to another looking for solutions to this problem and I have found that many are having a similar issue but toggling airplane mode or rebooting fixes it. Not the case for me. Most also seem to be having this problem after rooting. Again, not the case for me.
Any suggestions? I would prefer to not return the phone. Purchased from Radioshack and the 30-day warranty has expired. This is my second gnex already, as the first one's charging port broke. It took over a week to get this one from another store which graciously shipped it in to my store. There's also the issue of being broke and not really being able to afford another $30 activation fee on top of the deductible for a new phone.
Why not try reflashing the stock image and updating again to 4.2.1?

You should a- flash to stock using Odin following posts in sprint sextjon . b - call up and try to get an airavana.

Excellent. I will give it a shot at some point today or tomorrow and then let you know how it worked out. Thanks!
So, I restored the phone to stock. Signal is still non-existent on LTE/CDMA mode. Cannot perform Profile or PRL updates. Still no mobile data. I'm guessing hardware failure?
Also, on setup it asks for a SIM card. And at the bottom of the drop-down menu, it says "No SIM card|Sprint" or "No SIM card|No Service" depending on if I am in CDMA or LTE/CDMA.
Also, in the Status menu:
My phone number
Unknown
MIN
Unknown
PRL Version
Unknown
ICCID
Unknown
Seems a little odd to me.
Attempted fully rooting and flashing radios. No luck there either. It's also not wanting to update. Tells me my phone is up-to-date (connected via WiFi). Downloading Cyanogen now to see if it will work in the morning.
And while attempting to flash a new ROM, got the famous "can't copy anything to the device ever, under any circumstances" error.
Update: Got CM10 installed. Still "No SIM" error, no 3G, no data, no LTE. Found some more information on this No SIM error. Apparently a few others have had this same problem and in the end had to get a new phone.
Anyone know anything?
You should a- flash to stock using Odin following posts in sprint sextjon
I've been back to stock twice now. The first thing I did was flash to stock. Then I played around a bit and now I'm back to stock again.
Is there a difference between using Odin and Nexus Root Toolkit to return to stock?
Bump
Wow, one day and my thread is buried!
After battling for about a day, I got updated to JB 4.2.1, I can do profile and PRL updates again, but there is still no 3G/mobile data, and I still have zero bars on LTE/CDMA and have to use just CDMA. I am currently stock but the bootloader is unlocked, no root.
If anyone has heard any solution, please help. Also, if there's a difference between flashing to stock with Odin vs NRT, please say so.

Try fastboot flashing your LTE and CDMA radios again. As far as I know, fastboot commands do NOT require root. I had a similar issue.

Indeed, fastboot does not require root. I've flashed my radios several times now in various different ways. I even flashed different versions. I attempted again but with no luck. I have normal service when using CDMA but nothing on LTE/CDMA. Still no data, still "No SIM card" error.
Pretty sure I'll have to get it replaced. I've gone from stock JB back to stock ICS, rooted, CM10, back to stock ICS, rooted, back to stock JB unrooted, and flashed three different radios. I'm surprised I haven't managed to brick it yet.

Keep losing data connection and apn setting access

I picked up a Sprint prepaid HTC 816 recently and decided to flash this rom below
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][CM12.1][5.1.1][VirginMobileUS][A5][single sim][1/1/2016 security]
That one
It installed great, had everything everything working after I added my Sprint APN settings. The phone still displayed it as Virgin Mobile and only 3g seemed to be working. But I was making and receiving calls, text messages and had mobile data.
Fast forward a couple of hours, I installed a custom theme from the Play store, rebooted and ever since then I lost the ability to pickup a network signal and access my APN settings.
If I re-seat the sim and toggle airplane mode it will pickup a network signal and I can regain apn setting access again but it drops within minutes.
Ive reflashed the rom, wiped everything reflashed again, same thing. Any ideas on what has happened?
Thanks and appreciate your time!

Are these the APN codes you used(poster corrected a mistake in green text)? Looks like there is a different APN for prepaid /postpaid.

I indeed use the apn settings in the green from that post. They were working fine until I had a reboot. Then everything went to ****. It wont even let me access the apn settings and when I can its briefly and then I lose signal and apn access.

I had an issue with something on my Virgin mobile 816 a5_chl a while back and a member @wxppro was very knowledgeable about APN settings and their intricacies. He had a MVNO 816 at the time with an APN issue and I bet he could help you with this as that was my best suggestion for a fix and it didn't help you.
See if you can direct him here to this forum so that if he can help out the info is here to help others as well. Good luck.
Not sure how much I can help. APN is a tricky business. If your APN settings disappear after some time, it is generally because the cellular network the phone connects to does not match the APN's MCC/MNC numbers. Or it could be the phone is in 3G mode (CDMA EvDo mode).
You can try these things:
Switch network types, from LTE to 3G, wait a minute, and then back to LTE. APNs do not show up in 3G mode. They only show up in LTE (or global) mode.
When you have the APNs show up, check the parameters are correct, you can do a "Restore to default" and then add the new one following that post.
Hope this helps.
I'm having a similar issue as well (except on virgin mobile)
A month ago I flashed squid's version of CM 13 on my phone and everything was fine for a few days, until I completely lost LTE and access to APNs. I reverted to stock and still was unable to get LTE, although I could get a shaky 3g connection if I changed the network mode to CDMA only. I called virgin mobile and they walked me through the troubleshooting steps and eventually determined it was a network outage (even though two desires in my house belonging to other family members had LTE). I called again after they verified that the network was working again and they were still unable to fix the issue.
Recently, a friend upgraded from a desire to a different phone on a different network, and gave me his old phone. I plugged in my sim card and activated this new phone and I got LTE. Figuring everything was good, I decided to flash squid's ROM once again. The same issue happened, I got LTE for a day or two until it cut out service again. No access to APNs, not even any service in stock or on the official build of CM12 with the APN fix (I can't access APNs there either). I'm out of ideas and would appreciate if anyone had any input on my issues.

I have this same phone a5_chl Virgin Mobile. Did you factory reset your device before flashing back to your stock rom? The other thing is and this is just my opinion not a statement of fact or a knock on the wonderful Bigsupersquid but that 13 CM ROM is nowhere close to being stable enough for me to risk flashing it to my daily driver phone. Just read all the posts and his candid responses. You were basically a beta tester .
I'm not an expert in APN's but if you can't get that fixed your last resort might have to be wiping your system and then flashing or running the executable RUU (rom utility upgrade) file found for our device on HTC/downloads . This is a last resort option and wiping your system will remove your existing firmware so have the correct RUU for your phone downloaded to your computer before attempting a wipe. If it's an exe, which I believe the U.S. Virgin Mobile one is ,you will hook up your phone fully charged in fastboot mode then from your computer run the exe RUU like any other exe executable program and wait. It will reformat all partitions and reinstall pure stock ROM. Hope someone else had an easier fix for your data issues and good luck.
EDIT: you will need your stock recovery flashed back and a relocked bootloader before flashing the RUU but I've read that some have flashed their RUU over a custom recovery with a locked bootloader and it wrote over the custom recovery with the stock recovery. I have never personally tried this just the first way I mentioned and that worked for me.

I did try factory resetting and I am on stock after flashing the RUU. It makes no sense as the RUU should have reset everything. That perplexes me the most

OK then you did get back to stock not from a nandroid backup but from flashing or running exe stock RUU? If that's the case then it replaced everything that might have been changed and your issues shouldn't be related to any APN changes. You also removed and reinserted your sim card as I believe, correct?
EDIT: that perplexes me as well my friend!

i posted about my lte issues i had for nearly two weeks, running stock just to verify the data service problem wasn't my rom...
i had to install stock recovery, relock bootloader, download the ruu.exe from htc and extract the .img file in Wine, then rename it onto the sdcard and reboot into hboot so it'd flash. neither Wine nor virtualbox xp talk correctly to any of my phones over usb. and i wasn't about to native install Windoze.
factory reset stock didn't fix it, even trying activation, update profile, etc.
i learned i could get 3g data but switching to lte instead of cdma shut down data entirely.
virgin eventually directly escalated me to tier 2 tech support in my last call, they sent a couple service programming pushes to the phone that got my lte back online.
i tried the various service programming menu options repeatedly, with no results but the prl updated once; but the trigger to fix my lte seemed to come from upstream.
i tried various apns, in cm12, cm13, and stock lollipop. rebuilt init_a5.cpp with different mccmnc and adjusted apns. i really tried most tricks in the book plus a few more.
as far as alpha testing goes, at this point I'm just sharing something cool... i always enjoyed flashing latest greatest on my ov way before i was building.
not too many actual logs to really bug report for either rom.

Some of that was over my head but happily not all of it. Basically what your saying is the fix needs to come from the carrier and it's a reset issue on their end not a custom rom issue? By the way I'm a big fan of your work. Hell I might be on one of your older ROMs right now I've flashed so many I forget. Thanks for the education.

The first time it happened, I flashed back to stock using the RUU.exe. I tried again but the second time I took out the SIM card before running the program, I still can't get LTE.

It does sound a lot like a carrier/account issue as I managed to kill 2 different 816s. I don't think it's the SIM card itself because I put it into a 3rd phone and got LTE, although since it was someone else's phone, I didn' t bother activating it.
I guess you got lucky with support, I tried talking to them and they tried the same thing with me. Although all I got was excuses saying they're logging a ticket with their "network engineers" and to call back in a few days. This continued on for a few weeks until they determined I needed a new phone, which I was also bounced around for another few weeks (I still don't have it).
I'm just completely lost now. I'm almost certain it's my account and it needs to be reset, but I can't get a tech who can help me. How did you manage to get someone in tier 2?

This is starting to scare me as well because I'm thinking of going back to stock once Marshmallow gets pushed to our phone to get my beats drivers back and this is making me think twice. Sorry your having so much trouble.

seemed that way.
i took radio logs before and after it worked, and worked only on 3g, and it looked to me like the sim card responded differently to the ril after things were running right again.
mine might've been a special case, though, it came from ebay with no sim, and virgin had to go to a little effort to get it programmed when i installed the sim initially.
they also claimed for several days that the local Sprint tower was down for lte service.

tier 2 takes luck, time, many calls, and eventually you learn the answers to all the questions tier 1 outsourced from India asks so you can feed it to them so fast they want to shuffle you along. takes a couple of weeks to over a month to get to tier 2 and sometimes they have to be involved multiple times as well.
I've been dealing with virgin since 2009... replaced only two phones, eventually got the rest of the issues hammered out with persistence.
for a little while, twice, i had direct toll free numbers to American tier two even because my issues were so hard to solve. it didn't take too long for those numbers to be disconnected, though.
