**** Note, this thread is not pointing fingers at ROM Devs *****
So starting back when porting of ICS from skyrocket was done I never had any random reboots or crashes fast forward to about 2 weeks ago when sudden and many freezes, lock ups and random reboots started. I first started seeing it on darkside v3 and it continued to darkside v6 during which time I decided to bounce to AOKP which gave me the same results.
Things I have tested are:
[1] Different ROMs (all based on 4.0.3)
[2] 3 different SDCards, all brand new
[3] Running different radios
[4] No apps installed, basic default setup after ROM flashed with and without add-on launchers. Tested using TW, Nova and Apex.
[5] Formatted sdcard and internal storage
[6] New battery - pending results, ordered 2 days ago will be here Wednesday
[7] New bluetooth - pending results, ordered 2 days ago will be here Tuesday (Not sure if it would help but it was a good excuse to tell the wife)
[8] Flashed multiple times using CWM (non-touch) and TWRP
Anytime a ROM is flashed I always superwipe and on a few occasions I have manually select clear/format section via CWM. My flashing steps are perfect and followed to a T per AOKP and Darkside. Ive always flashed 100% battery charge and anytime I try to logcat I'm unable to get a log due to the random reboot because it won't save the log.
Once the new battery gets here and that doesn't work I'm completely lost with what else I can try. Does anyone who has experience and knows the file system of 4.0.3 > 4.0.4 know if something has been changed that may help or does anyone have any other method for me to find the issue at hand? Also keep in mind running darkside GB based on 2.3.6 is stable as hell.
Your assistance is much appreciated.
I had freezes and reboot when I went from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
then I just started from fresh. I Odin 'd to stock, and I started fresh with apparently and data. Didn't use titanium backup.. have not had a freeze or reboot since. I really think most users issues are because they are restoring old data.
Edit. After re-reading your thread I see that you never flashed a 4.0.4 rom. I really don't know why u are having issues.. your method of flashing looks really sound

Oh to add to that I have never restored apps with data or apps. I always go to the play store and reinstall fresh.
How old is your phone? I've only had mine since Mar and I've flashed plenty, restored apps with data, and no reboots or freezes.

Maybe 4-5 months old.
well if you wiped all that and you still getting random lags and you re flashed your CWM
just make sure you download count hasnt moved you know when your in download mode
cause it might be hardware and try
darkside v7
and AOKP B40
if its not the software then its the hardware
you could always try odin and start fresh that always seems to work on mine
Odin or cwm 5.0.2.7

I odin and started fresh and ran ICS stock for 3 days with no crashes or issues. I then rooted and flashed new ICS Rom and have not had any issues for the past 48 hours. Everything doing great. Something must have been stuck between all the upgrade/flashes that were causing the crashes.
Eugene fixed the reboots on AOKP, as far as AOKP, it was ROM related.

Yeah I read that earlier on twitter and although there was reboot issues my phone was just tripping. After odin to stock and starting fresh I have no issues with darkside however I might grab the latest AOKP with Eugene kernel. I hear good things.

The battery life is awesome, though probably not as good as Darkside.
Just be sure to flash the one from the link I provided. That one has the fixed kernel and ROM

My stock phone was just fine and then.. Crashing, freezing, random rebooting, call echo, missed calls and missed text. My phone was possessed by some android demon after upgrading to 4.0 from Samsung via Kies. A google search took me to XDA. I'm a noob and all but I read every post and I watched all your YouTube videos (thank you ScreamingSkulls, that helped a lot). TDJ posted the DARKSIDE v4 rom while i was reading his thread so I flashed my first custom rom. No major problems, the camera froze when I first opened it but I killed it and it worked fine after that (I later read that others had that happen too). I flashed the v5 rom then v7.. I did have an issue when I flashed the VENOM 03 #3 kernel. After I flashed it stuck for a long time on the S logo (animating). I got it to reboot successfully so I flashed it again just be sure and it worked. I also flashed the VENOM 03 #5 kernel yesterday and everything is running smooth.
My phone was running for about 52 hours before my doubletwist app started changing songs by itself and freezing lol, this isn't the first time it's happened, I've even done a clean install from odin, funny thing is, with GB could run my phone for almost 5 days or more straight if I let it with no issues, but ICS seems a bit more laggy, I think I'll wait for the dev's to whip up some extra mean stuff until there is an official repair for it.
Nice thread. Id been reading about that reboots. I can tell you im on jaminson' s rom and no problem here about that or apps fcs. Smooth and stable. Is nice to read that you fix it

I had hellish problems with ics, echo randomly in speaker, headset, even bluetooth, on wifi and not. App crashes, camera hosing, reboots, major scroll lag, touch lag, i ended going back to ginger a few times.
What i found out is to NOT RESTORE OR TOUCH ANYTHING! I have always run tdj's roms since he started putting them out but used titanium back to restore nonsystem apps, used rom tool box to tweak a few minor things.
I am running darkside evolution with v5 of ds kernel, i did not restore anything with tb didnt tweak any thing os just settings wise. Only loaded bare min apps i need. I do highly recommend nova launcher, its nice and fast and better on battery.
Just loading the ROM fresh and nova only issues are a few echo calls but very minimal. Performance and battery life are insane, I'm currently 15hr at 65% battery on light to moderate use, incredible. Otherwise runs perfectly great. Probably apps are just not totally ics compatible not sure.

Since this is my first post, I am not allowed to ask this question in the development thread.
Some time ago I started using JellyTime 7.2. All newer versions including v9.1 are not working for me since WLAN is not working and I don't have any idea how to fix it.
My logcat output:
Code:
D/WifiService( 1650): setWifiEnabled: true pid=2897, uid=1000
E/WifiStateMachine( 1650): Failed to load driver!
E/WifiStateMachine( 1650): DriverFailedState
I am using an HTC Desire HD with 4ext. I flashed this ROM with 4ext and I wiped boot, system, cache and data. I also cleared my sdcard except the installation zip.
Any ideas what I can do?

Hi there,
I'm new here as well, and well, i'm having similar problem with the JB builds, the WiFi works but when the phone is going to sleep for a while the WiFi stops working, I have to restart the phone to have the WiFi functional again, maybe is something related with the deep sleep or something like that, dont really know
cheeers!
btw, I'm always doing FULL wipe before installing a new rom!
I think randomblame will fix it if he knows this problem.
It's a question of time. VirtuousROM Quattro RC3 has the same problem. Maybe this is a CM10 bug which has affects both ROMs. I don't know.

Me too. After flashing boot, system, cache and data the only partition left is recovery and you won't like to flash this.
This seems to be a general problem since wifi doesn't work in MIUI.us 2.9.14 v4 and logcat shows the same error message.
i also have the problem with WIFI until i try the last release, R10. At the time my WIFI works fine.
This is very interesting because I tested IceColdSandwich, MI.UI and VirtuosROM Quatro. I made a backup of each installation and I played around. I always did a full wipe. And suddenly it works in JellyTime 9.1 and it also works in JellyTime 10 and I really do not know why.
Since it is working I experienced another problem: After a few hours of being not connected to a network, wifi breaks. After reboot it works fine.
In fact, I assume that this is a CM bug. IceColdSandwich and JellyTime are based on CM10. Quattro is compiled from source...
This is the one and only explanation I have -- obviously not a good one.
As I have seen, JellyTime R11 has been released. I will give it a try and hope it will solves the problem.

What does that have to do with wifi?

If it's not properly adjusted wifi may not work. The antenna's are there.

It seems that it works in R12 but I'm not sure, because I hadn't much time for testing. I will flash R13 an hope that this issue had been solved.

R13 works perfect for me. I've never did a reboot since flashing. My phone is running R13 nonstop for 22 hours and 15 minutes.
But keep in mind that after wiping boot, system, data, cache and flashing the zip with 4ext I flashed the boot image again over fastboot. I think this should help you too.
Try to set region in right way. You can find it in wifi settings. It worked for me.

Hi everyone.
I'm having a little problem with my Xperia S, it's kind of new (2 weeks of use).
When I'm using normally the cellphone, everything works great, but if don't use it for a long time and I grab it faster and unlocked it, sometimes the cellphone freezes! Well, not exactly freezing, it still works but VERY slowly, almost like freezing. I can't turn it off with power button, I had to user Power + Volume button to turn it off/restart it.
That happened in first week, so I unlocked bootloader and flash it another kernel (advanced stock kernel), and the problem was there.
Later I made a backup of the firmware (I updated to its last version with PC Companion, ICS btw) and flashed a custom ROM (XTXperience 4), and the problem was still there.
Yesterday I flashed a Generic ICS ROM downloaded from XDA Server using Flashtool, everything went normal until today, when the problem happened again.
I've been searching here in XDA and Google and still nothing seems clear of what is causing the problem, if it's the sim card or maybe a hardware problem. I'm going to relock the bootloader today, and I will try to repair the phone using SUS.
What is causing the cellphone to freeze? Hope someone help me with this. Thanks in advance!
btw, sorry about my english, hope you understand most of what I wrote
Well in my experience,
The phone freezes because it is too hot,
Or the RAM memory suddenly drops.
I mean sudden ur phone's RAM memory is 0.
I'm not sure too.
But I think reflashing the kernel, or flash other kernel will fix the problem
Try it

What ics firmware did you flash? And did you do a complete wipe when flashing?
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
I've flashed other kernel and yes, I do a complete wipe when I flash another ROM, via Flashtool or CWM.
I've been thinking of rolling back to GB to see what happens.
Yesterday my phone freezes like 2 or 3 times in less than 15 minutes. First time I reboot the phone and it was ok like 5 minutes, then it freezes. I reboot again the phone and happened again.
Its not even hot or using a lot of RAM, it always has like 250 or 200mb free

No, this is happening since the first boot of the phone. When I turned it on the first time it happened, and I had to search how to force a reboot because I didn't know how to do it LOL
It doesn't happen very often, but when it does is very frustrating!
Try flashing a new rom, but wipe the system partition too? I always do that to ensure a fully clean install.

I'm thinking in flashing a non based stock rom, like CM or MIUI, because I flashed XTXperience before and the freezing happened.
Oh, and the problem still exists. I believe Wi-Fi connection maybe it's the problem, I'm testing some things right now.
Had this too using Supercharger (by zep) but after few setting it's gone. Maybe you should try to run the script ?
It was with stock rom and advanced kernel v15/16.L
Well, I was on 6.1.A.2.45, I relocked the bootloader and an update changed the firmware to 6.1.A.2.55 using SUS without wiping data and the problem was still there, so I repaired the phone with SUS, it erased everything and the problem was gone for like 2 days. Today it happened again.

Hy.
I used the 4.2.1 with franco kernel and today i get this problem when i wan't to calling anyone. If i call, the screen going to black, and i just can't aborting the call. Only i can do, is remove the battery. So i pull back the 4.1.2 with stock kernel, but the problem is still alive.
Anybody know about this something ? It's a really frustrating problem.

A similar thing happened with me long time ago when I installed a nightly CyanogenMod on my S2 but it disappeared immediately after changing the ROM. It seems 4.2.1 and franco kernel were working fine with you at first but only today you got this problem, right?
I would make a nandroid backup, wipe all (system, factory reset, cache, and dalvik) then install the ROM again or better try another ROM to at least know if it is the hardware (proximity sensor?) or the software causing this problem. The nandroid backup will help you restore everything in case you get into any further trouble
Good Luck
Hi. Im using LG G Pro E988 variant. I'm trying to flash cyanogenmod 12.1 nightly version. Everything went well and all but i got a problem where the phone likes to reboot itself. So i try to clean everything with the usual stuff (wipe data, even wipe system, cache, etc) and re-flash the same. The issue still persists so i thought maybe it's the problem lies within the cm12.1 itself so i move a step back. I flashed the latest Cyanogenmod 11.2 Snapshot version that was available from their site. The issue still happened and i got no clue what's going on. On my stock kitkat ROM, this issue never happened.
Anybody got the same problem? Thank you before

Random rebooting is a common issue with all the cm 12.1 based ROM for lg ogp. The cm12. 1 in my opinion was never fully stabilized even by the time the devs were starting to switched to the newer hardwares. If you keep the number of apps you unstated to minimum, you may be able to keep random rebooting down, but this just my observation. I thought the latest bliss pop 4.03 had the rebooting issues sloved, but it rather just had the occurrence down to where it's less. But there are other issues such as the device getting extremely hot, which in turn causes shutdown. To the point where I give up on using LP once again on this device, and move back to kk. The kk may be an older rom, but at least it's stable. With the LP, I think issues with it unable to find the sim card, GPU issues that cause screen to flicker and blackout, all are never fully fixed. Rather, those issues were patched and rigged to make the rom run, but not smooth enough where you see issues such as rebooting and overheating.

Yeah, i think the issue are only on cyanogen based ROM. When i use the lolipop such as Super Mini V6.5 by henrypham91 and lgviet team, it's all good. Deep sleep normaly, no sound delay when game on 2D graphics, and all. But then again, it's noticeably slower if you compare against CM head to head. I really love CM or AOSP based rom because they are so fast.
