[Q] Galaxy Note 2 Speakerphone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone notice thier speakerphone mic volume during a call is super low? Everytime I make a call and turn on speakerphone, the other party on the call cannot hear me very well. However, when I'm on Skype and using speakerphone it is extreamely clear and loud. Any Thoughts?
*Update*
So I noticed the galaxy S 3 uses the microphone on the bottom for speakerphone but the Note 2 uses the one on top. I've always thought the top mic was for noise canceling and real nothing else. I just don't know if I should get a replacement phone or if it is something that should be fixed with updates.

Don't feel bad, I will be answering the same question 2 posts from now. Thanks for reading.

Doesn't this affect your outgoing volume, and not your Microphone?

I'm not worried about the actual speaker volume. I was commenting on the outgoing mic volume while on speakerphone. In other words, the person I call can't hear me very well while I'm on speakerphone in a quiet environment.

I thought it was the mic. I use speaker phone and always pointed the bottom of my phone towards me. this phone, sane prob as you, no one could hear me. as soon as I realized the mic switches to top,I turned the thing upside down and problem was solved. make sure the top of the phone is pointed towards you and not the bottom as you'd assume

I just used my speaker phone just to see how mine works. I had the phone 2ft away with top hole speaker facing me
And then I switched to normal talking. And my friend couldn't tell the difference between me using speaker phone and normal talk.

I know this is old but i can't find any other info on this issue. When i click on speakerphone during a call i have to speak into the mic at the top of the phone and i have to put my mouth right up to it. If i back up one inch they cannot hear me. The bottom mic does not work. Is there a fix for this?

My guess is you have a conflicting setting in Perseus...I have seen a few others mentioning a similar problem.

Thanks for replying...I trued with stock kernel also and same issue. I think my next move is to reset and see what happens on stock ROM and kernel.

Update...i flashed Clean rom 4.8 with Perseus 36 and speaker phone is working now??? Wtf oh well im happy...

Not sure about that question. ..only you would be able to determine if it's working or not.

Are you sure you are just not hearing the phone vibrate first? That what it sounds like to me.

Go somewhere very silent. Its not the vibration.I can "hear" the vibration and lets say at the same time the "click" and after milliseconds the "clack"
I just hear the vibration and then the sound.

OK thanks a lot.So looks problem with the speaker of the device

I bought two galaxy nexus units from unlocked-mobiles. They both do the clack sound, one just much louder than the other .
I can only hear it if I put my ear right beside the speaker with one unit but with the other unit, it's quite loud. I can clearly hear it from arm's length with this second unit.
If I plug in my headphones, I can barely hear the clack sound from both units. Therefore I think the clack sound is either part of "click" sound file or it's just the speaker terminating the "click" sound file. If you can hear it loudly, you either have a defective speaker or low quality headphones. Either way, it's annoying to hear on the one unit whose external speaker "clacks" loudly.
Samsung's quality control is pretty disappointing. The unit that "clacks" loudly has already suffered from the "sleep of death" twice, and I've only had these phones for 24 hours! I'm all the way in Canada and so it's a pain to mail the defective unit back to the UK.

They mentioned no fix. They said this is how speaker works BUT i asked supercurio for this issue (he doesnt have the device, he just read the thread) and here the answer
"Looks like pop-in and pop-out.
Means through hardware design or sound driver design are not very good for this codec."
I wouldn't say case closed.
With one of my devices, it's hardly noticeable (which is the way it supposed to be) so I don't mind at all. With the other I can clearly hear it from arm's length so it's a problem.

Obviously.Case closed goes for my case .Its not so loud. But in your case you must ask for replacement. The think is that everybody has it (other lower and other louder) and google/samsung must look at it.Maybe the solution is "simple" as supercurio quote (codec) or harder (bad hardware). If the problem (yes its a problem, i had sgs1,htc desire hd,nexus s, sgs2 and none of them has this issue and believe me from day one i check for pixels, speaker quality etc etc) is hardware then google/samsung you have a problem
Hello guys this is also my fault if we want to call it, but on a page of code.google there is a page to know the problem at the big G.

Yes i have this issue, thanks for the page wollyka i forgot it for posting.
All I hear is the sound it's supposed to make, nothing after. I turned off vibration and held it right to my hear and tried loads of times... all I hear is the single touch sound!
They're called Touch Sounds, its a feature, and you disable them under the sound settings.
Settings>Sound> uncheck Touch sounds.
This isn't a new feature either...
Either:
a) I'm just lucky because I don't have it; or
b) You guys are incredibly stupid and don't realise that the first sound you can hear is the vibrate and the second is the touch sound which you turned on

[Q] Delayed "Pop" on Speak phone?

I am on my third replacement phone (last one the LED notification didn't work) and now I am noticing that there is a very faint 'Pop' sound emitted from the speaker phone 3 seconds after there is a system audio sound. For instance, every time I hit the Home button or unlock the phone, I hear the 'Pop' three seconds later.
Does anyone else have this problem? If I have headphones plugged in, I do not hear the sound through the headphones.
Thanks!
Dude is it possible that u have the lock n unlock sounds enabled?

Yes I do have the sounds enabled and I hear those fine. I am hearing an additional click/pop noise 3 seconds later. It makes the sound pretty much every time the phone makes noise. It's very faint.
From what I've read this is a pretty common problem. Mine does this as well but honestly I can only hear it when its quiet.
There's also another thread on this topic but I don't believe there was really conclusion.
Mine and a bunch of nexi at my local best buy suffer from this. It is not dependent on lock sounds it's a problem with the DAC I believe

Gotcha. Are you boosting your volume with volume+ or any other app?
Thank you for the replies. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone.
I have the same problem. I posted a thread yesterday, and there's another one (i didn't see it before posting mine).
That's a pretty annoying issue, i used to have the same thing on my unibody MacBook (fixed with an unofficial software patch), and once you hear it, well, you can't unhear it.
I hope this is not a hardware issue and can be fixed by some patch, but no one seems to care about this one (maybe not all GN have this problem?)
I decided to just disable all touch tones since it was bothering me too much. Just out of curiosity I checked another Nexus and the pop is still there but could only be heard by literally holding the speaker phone to my ear. Not nearly as loud as mine.

Yeah dude.... same. I actually started the original thread on this. Its so annoying hey.... I hear ya man. I dunno, I did the same as you, disabled touch sounds. Its sounds cheap doesn't it.
I really hope its software related. I was trying to find out if, just a bit of 007 work, Haha, if it was maybe the build? Seeing if the people with a Google updated nexus's had the issue compared to people with the Samsung updated ones. I wonder if there a connection....

Problem with earpiece: Software related? Or do I need to replace the earpiece?

Hello,
How are you?
So I noticed a small issue with my nexus.
When I am in a Phone Call, the earpiece kind of distorts the voices. It is hard to explain, but it is kind of like a robotic echo voice...
The situation returns to normal if I lower the Volume to about 40%.
The voice over the earphones or the external rear loudspeaker are fine though...
So, based on this, is it a defective earpiece, or a software problem that can be solved with an upgrade to radio/baseband?
Anyone else had this issue?
Thank you.
Cheers!
I too am having an issue with the volume and quality of sound coming from the ear piece. I can barely hear anyone and if there is any kind of ambient noise around forget it. From what I've gathered it is a bug in JB or 4.1. There are a few fixes floating around to increase the overall system volume, but they seem to fall short when it comes to the in call ear piece volume.
I have tried build prop edits with no luck.
What version of Android are you using 4.0 or 4.1?
I am going back to 4.0 Cyanogen Mod 9 to be exact and will see if this fixes it, if not this phone is going to have a date with a Big hammer.
Maybe some of the folks on here will chime in and offer some help or suggestions?

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
I am running the stock 4.1.1.
My problem is not the volume. I have to lower the volume to be able to have a good quality output.
If I increase the volume, the sound increases, but the voice on the other side becomes distorted un a robotic maner.
It is har do explain.
Cheers!

Wow I wish mine was loud, I may go by the Sprint store and play with their demo phone.
If it sounds like the person is speaking through a kazoo, you have a bad ear piece. Had same issue on first gen sgs.
good day.
So I finally broke down and called a guy I knew that worked at the Sprint store he said to bring it in. I asked if it was cool that it was rooted and he said no prob, they placed a test call and said and the tech said," you have a bad speaker come back in a few hours and it will be fixed."
You do not know how many hours I spent looking up fixes, flashing this trying different kernels blah, blah, blah.
Take it in and have them look at it, just be cool with them and don't try to BS them. Hope this helps a little.

M8: Microphone not working (sometimes)

Hi,
got my M8 (dual-SIM) for a few days, and noticed that someone people can't hear me properly. I was sure it is network coverage related problem.
However, today I have decided to test the microphones using phone diagnostic tools and using sound recorder.
In most cases microphone works. But sometimes instead of my voice I hear noise and NO VOICE at all.
What is the conclusion, is this software or hardware related problem? Don't want to do factory reset for nothing.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone ?
My microphone started acting up about 2 weeks ago on my Att model.
When using headset no one can hear me, switch to speaker and they can. Record a video and I can hear background noise but voices are so low they are nearly inaudible.
Hell, I have to scream at the phone to get OK Google to work.
Wish I had an answer, but like like it's going to be a warranty issue. Till then, I'm using tasker to turn on speaker phone for all calls lol

It sounds like a hardware problem.
Are you rooted and do you have s-off?
If you are, you could try flashing the newest firmware and/or adsp to see if that fixes stuff.
Are you rooted? What ROM are you using? Have you updated you ROM to 4.4.4 without updating the firmware?
Give a quick list of tweaks you've made. Also, go to adb and enter "fastboot getvar all" (no quotes) and post the read out here. Please remove your IMEI and serial# for your own security.
If it is software related, this is pertinent information.
Hi,
My phone is 4.4.2 official, not rooted and it is S-ON.
I am waiting for official 4.4.4 update for my dual-SIM M8 (it is expected in next few days).
P.s. in last 2 days nobody reported they cant hear me...
Today, problems returned........ 50% of the calls today people can't hear me well, or they can't hear me at all.
However, it seems that turning speakerphone ON and OFF during the call completely solves the issue (for each call separately).
Just a head up, anyone having this microphone issue should try cleaning out the left side of the bottom speaker grill with a toothbrush and some 99% alcohol. About 5 min of scrubbing pulled out allot of crud and now it's back to normal.

I really dont understand how did you manage to pull anything from the bottom speaker... holes are so tiny. Please try to explain or take some pics.. as my mic is driving me crazy.

Can't take pics as I only have the one phone but I'll try to explain what worked best for me.
Isolate the front most bristles by using your thumb to sort of bend them away from the rest.
Instead of using a scrubbing motion, lightly place the tips of the bristles against the grille at about a 70° angle. Keeping that angle, move the brush slowly across the grille keeping just enough pressure so the bristles go into the holes. Don't put so much pressure that they flatten out.
Do that going both from left to right and right to left.

Call Quality - Noise Reduction/Cancellation

My voice sounds like crap on the other end. Garbled and cut up. I hear them just fine.
I do not have the problem on speakerphone.
If i block the top microphone, I sound better on the other end.
I had this exact problem with the last LG device I had, the Nexus 5.
There were several threads about it at the time, but LG and Google never fixed it.
Most people either just taped over it or edited a setting in build.prop to disable the second mic.
Anyone else? I really don't want to have to return it and move on.

You have no issues with your speakerphone? My speakerphone sounds like crap, if the volume is too high it gets the tinny distortion. Sad thing this was also the same of the display in the Verizon store and my friends XL 2 as well. I've made a few calls and so far no complaints.

When making calls with the speaker phone after 50% volume is when you can start hearing the tinny distortion.
Any solution to this ?
Iam having real trouble with mic if i change the angle even a little during call .. other person isnt hearing my voice
If i cover the top microphone .. its fine..
It is very agressive voice cancellation ..
How to switch it off ?
