idk if yall know what safestrap is but its the recovery hash of codes made for the droid 3,4 raz and other motorola phones but the cool part is anything 3.0 and up has the abilty to multiply os's like 5 slots you can choose from it would make testing roms much easier if we could get this, i no developer so i couldnt make it happen but maybe someone will read this and make some magic...
I just installed 3.0 for my spare Droid 4, and it's actually pretty cool. I wonder if they got the idea from the (now dead) Boot Manager app in the Play Store. (I used to love that app)
This would be pretty awesome to have on our Nexus phones. I wonder if it's too large of a project seeing as how Nexus phones aren't locked down as much as motorola phones?
We have TWRP and CWM. No need for a bootstrap. You want to switch between multiple ROMs easily? Just use a NANDroid of each one and alternate as desired.
Razr and other motorola safe strap compatible phones usually have a memory card expansion slot, whereas our phone is solely dependent on that 16gb. So its not really a feasible option to give up the precious storage for the partition slots.

Hi everybody!
Little question appeared in my head- have anybody heard of replacement of CPU in the g2 or other htc models? Is ot possible?

well, i understand that.
but maybe somebody from xda tryed this?
Never heard of it actually attempted but the question has been posed before.
Are you asking about replacing it with the same SOC that came with the G2 or a different one?

i think a different one, as an idea of maximizing productivity
Afaik, it hasn't been attempted before. The problem is it's not like the socket-based cpu's in pc's. These are system on chip, meaning everything is on them; cpu, gpu, everything, as far as I understand it. In a pc, as you know, these are separate parts that can be readily changed. Plus, no one really knows if the other hardware would be compatible. Then after all that, you need to get the software to work. It's a hell of a job.

Well I think it would theoretically be possible to change the CPU if they are pin compatible, which happens often with CPUs from a same series.
BUT
Where would you buy a cpu? what do you think it would cost?
and how would you assemble it on the mainboard, those modern IC's have very small pins/balls underneath it, which you can't just solder!
I was thinking after reading this yesterday and posting. Since we would be dealing with a SOC the baseband radio would be integrated into it - which means *if* this could be accomplished, it would give us the freedom to literally use a phone on any carrier we wanted will full data access speeds i.e. use the G2 on AT&T '4G'.
Obviously the 'easiest' method would be to use the SOC out of a Desire Z since everything would be the same except for the radio - thus eliminating software issues. Now all we need is a way to deal with the extreme micro scale of all the pins and such.
Now to switch out to say, a Tegra 2 - I doubt the pins match and that goes for any dual core. To go to something like an 8xXX series (are those dual or single?), now that might be possible but as far as single cores go the G2 has IMO the best out there. Sure there are some slightly upgraded 7xXX series processors out there but nothing worth the headache this would bring.

Its absolutely identical in every way. The radio amplifiers are NOT in the SOC, so this would NOT change the frequency. In addition, wouldn't it be easier to just swap phones than to rip them both apart to trade identical components first?

The 8xxx series is identical. In fact, the 7230 ***IS AN*** 8255, its just **DOWNCLOCKED**. They changed the model id number ONLY.
An 8260 would DEFINITELY NOT be pin compatible, so the limit is 8255, which is pointless.
Well I agree it would be easier to just switch phones, albeit cheaper I was just answering his hypothetical question.
I always figured being a SOC the radio would be itegrated into that, guess that remote purpose for switching out the SOC is out the window.

As for doing it you would need a micro balling and reflowing station

Hello Community. My dear wife is thinking about getting me the Nexus for my birthday. I am currently rocking the Revolution and generally speaking I love it!! But I miss the pure Android experience...
I have a couple of questions before buying and I hope this is the type of community that will take a couple of moments to answer them..
1. Will the android wi-fi tether work with this phone? (from here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/)
2. Any problems with not having an external SD card?
Ok, really those are my only real questions. I'd take any feed back about personal performance and negatives and positives. Specificially to the verizion CDMA version of the phone.
(I have started reading through the forums, but there are 101 pages and I can't read that fast, I am working on it.)
Thanks in advance and I look forward to participating in this very busy community
I haven't tested the tether but I actually like not having an SD card. It should be included but only using one storage source is handy and makes everything easier to maintain.
The LTE has 32gb. That's more then my 16gb SD I used to use... and more then enough. Tether works but I'm not sure about that specific one.
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus - CM9 AOKP
Asus Transformer - Revolver
1. Yes it will work, I have tried it out multiple times and have no problems connecting to multiple devices with 10+ Mb's.
2. Not really, as the other poster said it is kind of nice to not have to worry about it but coming from my old phone was kind of a pain being that I had to move everything to my computer then over to my Nexus but that is my only gripe.
You will love this phone.
1. It works for me as well.
2. I thought I would hate it but I actually like it. It is nice when my phone is plugged into my computer that my phone can still access what is stored on the "SD card" partition. It was always annoying on the Droid X to wait for it to get access to everything again or when someone called and my ringtones wouldn't play. After I do a nandroid backup, I copy it to my computer just in case I somehow wiped that partition.
My wife had the Revolution and I upgraded her to a Razr. 2 days ago she dropped the Razr in the toilet (we are hoping it will come back to life) and had to revert to using the Revo. She hates it! The Nexus would be a MASSIVE step up. You will not be disappointed!!
Android 4.0 has built in wifi tether that works perfectly. I have yet to have a problem with it.
32GB internal memory is fine. Not having a physical SD doesn't really matter cause 32 is more than enough.

Thanks Everyone for their input. Now to get my wife to get in the car and go over to VZW and get me that phone... ....after that...time to play with all the roms!!
ok have to ask i remember when we could run android from the sd card on windows phone htc hd2 this was great when i had the hd2 now got the galaxy s2 with ICS and its great but now am wondering if windows rom can be ported to the sd card on the galaxy s2 without the use of magldr or nand.
Basically impossible... drivers first of all... and honestly... probably little to no demand.... easier to just go buy a windows phone...

For now. Jelly Bean was supposed to be the first step away from carrier borking of android framework. Essentially, the intention was to stop the current segregation. And it was said there was interest in supporting dual boot. Who knows, money talks, so neither may ever become a reality

He's asking for WP7 not multiple android ROMs. However i use that app mentioned and its freaking awesome. It better helps me pick a DD when new releases come out
But per OP:
WP7 on any phone other than WP7 or HD2 is going to be impossible. As the second post stated. the drivers and guts to get it working are not avaliable for the S2 as they were for the HD2. I have an HD2 as well and the reason for the vast choice in ROMs and platforms is because they were able to get a hold of the raw sources for the drivers which the devs than sprinkled some xda-dust on and tweaked the code to run in different platforms. The HD2 is one of the most vastly developed devices ive ever seen/read/owned. I wish mine was still in pristene condition. lol.
thank you for all your info guys and looks like i will need to get the htc hd2 to injoy windows, i started out with windows as my frist smart phone the tmobile dash lol that one died and aslo the dash 3g, but still injoying the galaxy S2 still has a ton of life to it, but then i remember having the htc hd2 and then got the galaxy S2 and befor i sold the hd2 i did some compairing using youtube play on both phones and the screen display on the hd2 was so close to the galaxy S2 also speed wise was close but then just one thing that the hd2 lacked was a front camera, but still always :good: for the hd2.
Hope this excites people!
So far it's early, and it can only do 8 GB and no LTE from what's seen. With the hardware being similar it seems like a easier conversion that most.
It's almost a truism to say that the Nexus 4 is near impossible to buy, at least for those who don't want to pay a carrier premium. G33k3r, Rohan32 and others at XDA-Developers may just save us from camping at the Google Play storefront through a new software hack. Their work converts an LG Optimus G's firmware to that of an 8GB Nexus 4 by swapping every LG-customized software element with a Nexus 4 parallel. The nearly identical hardware makes for a very close rendition, at least if you discount the unavoidable design differences. If anything, the work is almost too faithful: the current hack turns off LTE, caps the internal storage at 8GB and even requires using Nexus 4 firmware for future upgrades. It's possible to revert to LG's code if there's jitters, but it goes without saying that the overall procedure carries more than the usual share of risk when even familiar ROM flashers are warned to be careful. Anyone who throws caution (and the price of an Optimus G) to the wind can find their stock Android experience at the source.

PLEASE DONT DO IT!!! YOU will perma BRICK!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36735476&postcount=149
THis is obviously a hack, and will definitely be improved if completely true for release and also tweaked. So yes, ofc it's been known you cannot do a direct flash of the hack, I suggest ppl wait for a new release or more confirmation.
Thanks

My question is more why would one want to transfrom his/her E971/E973 into a nexus 4 when you can run nexus 4 rom natively* ? This give you less functionnality than having the stock rom installed and it's pretty stupid to accept 8GB storage when you can have 32.
*Roms must be flashed with by-name in updater script and not with partition number. The kernel must be modified to change a few that were changed for nexus 4. User experience may vary. Please be cautious if you plan on flashing nexus 4 roms, overwriting rpm partition (mmcblk0p7) with something else will end in a perma brick. I can't be held responsible for any damage.

Pretty sure it is only for the E970 (the LS970s can do it too, but it hasn't been released for it).
Right now the E970s can't flash anything but their own kernels and haven't been able to get any non LG based ROMS completely functional yet.
I believe it is too much to lose/too risky, but others just want the ROMs.
this is super exciting. a working radio, camera, and storage would be super
Is there any way we could get dual booting on the S4? It doesn't matter if its a port or whatever, I just wanna be able to easily dual boot between stock and CM10.1
Currently we do not have an option to duel boot. I would love to see something like this but with the size of the roms we are dealing with the system partition would not be able to handle it. Not saying it absolutely cant be done but it would take a pretty dedicated dev to knock this out i think.
I'm pretty sure that it's possible to boot off sd (I'm pretty sure that's how the hd2 has stayed alive all these years) but i wouldn't know if it's possible on our phone. Would be awesome though, would be able to test ubuntu os n fire fox os if they are ever ported to our phones

There is a dual boot kernel for the galaxy Note 2.. Maybe the same guy can make one for the s4
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
So far, this is the only thing my Thunderbolt could do the S4 can't.
The second (and third, fourth...) ROMs are stored on SD until you boot them.
I was booting between 10 Roms on my evo3d , check YouTube for my nino-boot video, if anyone has the time, porting bootmanager would make it possible.
This would be awesome to have.
I would pay for this.
I'm on Sprint BTW, if it matters for this feature?
I found this thread via Google search s4 dual boot.
if we achive the dual-boot will be possible to boot another os without any other work? as said a guy up here it would be lovely to try firefox os or windows phone or any other os...
Dual boot would be awesome. I had 4 different roms on my RAZR... Downside of the sa4 having a huge os I guess.
Hopefully it can be done! I would pay for it as well

i wouldnt recommend messing with that, since its in the i9500 forums , our phones cant use anything from those forums because of the different hardware, unless this is an exception
