windows rom on sd card - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

ok have to ask i remember when we could run android from the sd card on windows phone htc hd2 this was great when i had the hd2 now got the galaxy s2 with ICS and its great but now am wondering if windows rom can be ported to the sd card on the galaxy s2 without the use of magldr or nand.

Basically impossible... drivers first of all... and honestly... probably little to no demand.... easier to just go buy a windows phone...

For now. Jelly Bean was supposed to be the first step away from carrier borking of android framework. Essentially, the intention was to stop the current segregation. And it was said there was interest in supporting dual boot. Who knows, money talks, so neither may ever become a reality

He's asking for WP7 not multiple android ROMs. However i use that app mentioned and its freaking awesome. It better helps me pick a DD when new releases come out
But per OP:
WP7 on any phone other than WP7 or HD2 is going to be impossible. As the second post stated. the drivers and guts to get it working are not avaliable for the S2 as they were for the HD2. I have an HD2 as well and the reason for the vast choice in ROMs and platforms is because they were able to get a hold of the raw sources for the drivers which the devs than sprinkled some xda-dust on and tweaked the code to run in different platforms. The HD2 is one of the most vastly developed devices ive ever seen/read/owned. I wish mine was still in pristene condition. lol.

thank you for all your info guys and looks like i will need to get the htc hd2 to injoy windows, i started out with windows as my frist smart phone the tmobile dash lol that one died and aslo the dash 3g, but still injoying the galaxy S2 still has a ton of life to it, but then i remember having the htc hd2 and then got the galaxy S2 and befor i sold the hd2 i did some compairing using youtube play on both phones and the screen display on the hd2 was so close to the galaxy S2 also speed wise was close but then just one thing that the hd2 lacked was a front camera, but still always :good: for the hd2.

Run Android on WinMo 7

I have followed XDA for quite some time and have been waiting for someone to get a little bored with android like myself and start the modding of the new WinMo 7 phones to run both Android and WinMo 7. I can't find anything on it. Is it just not possible (yet)??? I know the devices can handle it...1ghz, 16gb internal, plenty of memory...Vibrant, etc. Seems like the perfect device for a dual boot Eclair/Froyo and WinMo 7. Windows Mobile 6x running Android is old and the 1st one I did was the Tytn II by HTC. Slow, but it was still nice to have both.
Any Devs out there wanna push this? I'll buy hardware and do any tests wanted. Seems Samsung specs are pretty equal between the Vibrant and Focus or even like the port of Android to the HD2...can it be done using the HD7 from T-Mo?
In the case of Samsung, why wouldn't you just get the Captivate (Galaxy S)? Already has Android. The Focus is basically the same phone...

why start from ZERO when HD2 is already running Android pretty smoothly and will be getting wp7 soon? Not to bash or anything but wp7 may not be as easy to tinker with as compared to wm6.

[Q] Time to upgrade........

OK, its time to upgrade my trusty DHD.....
...but what gets my hard-earned (no, really) pennies?
To me there are 4 options........
1) HTC One X
2) Samsung Galaxy Note
3) Wait until the 30th and get the Samsung Galaxy SIII
4) Keep the DHD for another 12 months and benefit from a cheaper contract.
So, if it was your pennies getting spent, where would they be going?
I'm going to post this question in the HOX, SGN, and SGS3 forums too, to (try to) get a balanced view.
I was already to get the Note, then I picked one up and it's a Samsung. It was like Agent J and the noisy cricket. The One X still pisses me off with it's non removable battery and no external storage slot. The SGS III will be a Samsung. I don't understand why their phones feel so cheap. HTC's plastics aren't that toy-like.
Sprint's Evo LTE gives me hope though. It's nearly a One X with a bigger, though still not removable, battery and it has a micro sd slot. Maybe the next upgrade for the "flagship" will get them also.
Just my thoughts but I guess I would wait to see what else is coming. The SGS III may be better than I think or maybe something else can make me a fool.
I'm liking ICS on it now and it will only get better when the official update comes out.

Thanks BLG - I know where you are coming from.
Having owned 5 HTC devices on the spin, I feel a little grubby myself considering Samsungs! ;-)
However, here lies part of the problem - I think I'm bored of HTC, and the One X and One S are just so.... safe looking. Where is the design flair? Plus, I've never been much of a ROM flasher (although I did put Vegacomb on my tablet), preferring to have a device that works rather than list the compromises and things which dont quite work properly, so stock Sense is now getting very stale indeed.
Maybe I need to turn to the dark side briefly just to satisfy my curiosity that the grass isnt always greener?
I'm sure I will go wrap my mitts around the SGS III asap. I just want my next device to look, feel and dammit, smell better than what I have. Besides, touchwiz is just
UGLY.

4) I would keep the Desire HD for another 12 months and flash a custom android 4 Rom with sence 4.0 when we get the official 3.0 kernel.

Hmmmm, an interesting alternative, there. Whatever I decide, I'll probably keep the DHD anyway and use it as a test device for flashing/generally mucking about.
I've decided (with a feeling of I'm cheating on a loved one) to get a Note online, then I can return it under distance selling laws if I find it unbearable to live with.
Genuinely, many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Your insight has been much appreciated.

When you say dark side, meaning Apple of course, have you ever considered Windows Phone? I'm much the same as you. Although playing around with the various DHD custon ROMs and having the freedom of Android has been enjoyable; I'm now thinking I just want a phone that works and doesn't need to be mucked around with. Was tossing up Windows Phone, maybe the HTC Titan as an upgrade. Thoughts?

Ubuntu phone OS on Desire

Hi guys!!! Happy New Year first!
I found something interesting. The devs from ubuntu are developing a new OS. It uses linux kernel and drivers for the specific device. Here are the requirements. I think i will run on our devices.

So great! Looking for an official release
It looks like the Desire is just at the minimum requirements for this, except that the Desire's Snapdragon system-on-chip is ARM Coretex A8 not the "required" A9.
I was under the impression it needs at least two cores, no?

well why not we have other choices for os on our phones ? i think it could be a new era on phones os and who knows even more ...
I think it will be awesome to choose our OS on the phone. This wil be perfect on phone that has no buttons - like galaxy nexus or nexus 4. The beta will be released in 3 or 4 weeks I think. I`ll try to port it but I'll need help
Edit: Read the official page. The beta for the nexus will be ready at 13 january ))
Yes we can hope that with both Ubuntu and Firefox OS will let us control our devices. The future of smartphone OS look bright  By the way I don't think canonical is planning to port ubuntu for old or low-range phones for now. Especially since they might encounter performance issues. The community might have to work hard to port it on devices like the HTC Desire

i hope Ubuntu OS and Firefox OS can run in HTC DESIRE .....
htc desire only single core
i think ubuntu os phone can't support for desire ....
desire just single core...:crying:
It looks to me that our processor may just fall under the requirements, also it says the device will require 4gb internal storage. That may be a problem, as long as the system files are less than 250mb it should be possible using some sort of reverse mount with sd card
interesting. But I also suppose that our three years old smartphone won't be "fast" enough for it

[Q] What do you do with your old HTC Desire?

I bet most of us have already upgrade to other phones, which are more capable with ICS or JB. I'm wondering for some sort of projects for it. Our HTC Desire is too slow and too little RAM to support the newer OS. Nevertheless, what do you do with your old Desires nowadays? Mine is just collecting dust being a camera surveillance, sending the output to a FTP server.
But how about a digital photo frame? But I know there is no possible way to get TV out. Yeah, I did search the forum...
Sigh... so far I'm doing these, as a standalone box collecting dust..
1. Camera surveillance - sends images to an FTP server (you can get those from Market),
2. alarm clock (chimes every hour),
3. Torrent downloader (hehehe, and output is dumped to my NAS),
4.... ???

My desire is great. I have it for two years now and I don't need anything more from a phone. It has everything. I run it on Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition ROM and I find it quite stable. However, if a Jelly Bean ROM would get as stable as the one I am using now, I will most definitely take the leap.
I will keep mine for at lest two more years. It was the best decision I've made when I bought it. Too bad it came with such a big shortage of internal memory. It's the only thing that is missing at this phone. But now we have so many ROMs with DATA2SD so this is not an issue any more.
I use it as a spare device. Currently running Oxygen 2.3.2. Clean and simple.
JB 4.2.1 - great !!
I am on JB 4.2.1 V4.5 - and it is a new Phone - smothest i ever try !!!
when you have tested it, you will understand me.
short button
notifications
very quick connections / wifi and bluetooth
some new applikations for ics and jellybeam
try it with launcher ex - it's great
speed speed ...
i am thinking to get old desires and put the new Bios on it for my children !!
Haha, it's unreal how these types of threads all end up as what's the best rom thread. @OP, I just use my desire as a phone and messaging only. My HOX is for entertainment.

Dual Boot on S4

Is there any way we could get dual booting on the S4? It doesn't matter if its a port or whatever, I just wanna be able to easily dual boot between stock and CM10.1
Currently we do not have an option to duel boot. I would love to see something like this but with the size of the roms we are dealing with the system partition would not be able to handle it. Not saying it absolutely cant be done but it would take a pretty dedicated dev to knock this out i think.
I'm pretty sure that it's possible to boot off sd (I'm pretty sure that's how the hd2 has stayed alive all these years) but i wouldn't know if it's possible on our phone. Would be awesome though, would be able to test ubuntu os n fire fox os if they are ever ported to our phones

There is a dual boot kernel for the galaxy Note 2.. Maybe the same guy can make one for the s4
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
So far, this is the only thing my Thunderbolt could do the S4 can't.
The second (and third, fourth...) ROMs are stored on SD until you boot them.
I was booting between 10 Roms on my evo3d , check YouTube for my nino-boot video, if anyone has the time, porting bootmanager would make it possible.
This would be awesome to have.
I would pay for this.
I'm on Sprint BTW, if it matters for this feature?
I found this thread via Google search s4 dual boot.
if we achive the dual-boot will be possible to boot another os without any other work? as said a guy up here it would be lovely to try firefox os or windows phone or any other os...
Dual boot would be awesome. I had 4 different roms on my RAZR... Downside of the sa4 having a huge os I guess.
Hopefully it can be done! I would pay for it as well

i wouldnt recommend messing with that, since its in the i9500 forums , our phones cant use anything from those forums because of the different hardware, unless this is an exception
