Mobile Odin Supported on L900 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I don't know how many people are aware of this, but chainfire now supports mobile odin on our galaxy note 2's. It's purpose is self explanatory but for those who don't know about it, mobile odin is an application which allows you flash firmware directly on your device. Its different than cwm because it allows you to flash tars to specific partitions directly on your phone.

[Q] Use Samsung EXE as replacement for Odin

When EB13 was released, Samsung provided a full wipe/install tool called Epic4G_FroyoUpgrade_EB13.exe
If you install that tool, and dig into the directories, you will find a normal .tar file inside, same as what we use in Odin. [e.g. ..\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade for SPH-D700\Models\Binary\SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar.md5]
I would like to know if anyone has tried swapping the tar.md5 file with another one, like perhaps official di18, or the unofficial pre-rooted eb13 tars.
Since Odin seems so flaky for folks, if we could simply swap out the tar in that folder this tool could be a easier/more friendly flasher going forward.

That samsung tool is odin just covered up with a easier to user interface, although odin is a piece of cake to use...

If it is setup like the update tool for the samsung moment it will only work with the update tar that comes with it.If the hack for the moment updater would work on it (which I haven't tried)it might work with other tar files.

Samsung originally intended to release a Mac version, but after the update being pulled for EB13 they did not publish a Mac version of this particular installer.
With EC05, Sprint is rolling it out OTA to all users. It is unknown if Samsung will release an updated installer once Sprint's OTA is completed. If they do, then I would assume Windows then Mac would be released if they didn't release both at the same time.

[Q] Heimdall 4.1.2 root method anywhere?

I'm stuck on my still crappy Macbook--my first 4.1.1 N2 rooted easy using heimdall (months ago), and the respective images in the root guide.
Well, after a warrantee replacement that has shipped with 4.1.2 that method is a no-go.
Anyone have the updated recovery file for heimdall on OSX?
I believe that Heimdall Flasher flashes .md5 rom files. Use STANDART in Heimdall to flash a .md5 rom file into SGH-T889 Galaxy Note 2.

Heimdall Flasher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33074572
Thank you for that--still not clear on the tool.
I've always used the full "Heimdall Suite". I've never seen the "flasher".
I'll have to check it out while I wait another warrantee N2 (today's delivery came with an obstructed notification light).
You'd think with all of us poor saps stuck using OSX there would be a little more support--alas, was just about to build my own windows7 laptop when the wife and I decided to move half way across the country. *tear*
Nope. The flasher is a no-go.
Tries to run as an .exe file and that is a roadblock in OSX. I'm DL'ing a stock injected rom and going to try and run that through Heimdall...sucks all newer replacements have gone to 4.1.2.

I've tried extracting the md5s and I am getting a "missing XML files" prompt no matter which one I use...All it really needs is a .pit file to flash, or hell, even just the recovery.img. Sadly, the macbook refuses to open and separate the packages to let me get at them.
*sign* I hate OSX.
I don't have ... well no Macs. The reason being that Apple limits too much to their own ecosystem. So I can't look at their version of Heimdall Suite. I will play with the Windows version. reading the documentations The file needs firmware.xml to validate the rom. This is the developers way of making Heimdall safer than Odin. So the rom has to be created into Heimdall Firmware Package. Then flashed.
That makes sense. It seems all the initial exploits worked nice and easy, but since the update all hell has broken. I'm going to try and find a Windows box and just use odin.

If your Mac will allow you just boot camp into windows (first install windows of course), then install from there. If your Mac doesn't allow you to boot camp into windows then that can be a good reason to purchase a new mac.
Sadly it won't run bootcamp. And I'll never ever buy another Apple product. Looking into cheap net books right now just in case I cannot find a Windows box in the next 2 days.

I never tried Mobile Odin. But with the Pro version has a EverRoot mode that will root while flashing. Flashes while on your device. Same developer, Chainfire, as SuperSU Pro and [root] Triangle Away apps.

[Q] Which Odin ver I need to run for rooting I919

Hello,
The files I am required to root my SGH-M919 are:
1. CF-Auto-Root for Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile) SGH-M919 (Odin V1.85).
2. Odin 3.07 (Odin V3.07).
I asked to "Extract CF-Auto-Root 1.85 (with i919 ini) and Odin 3.07 (with s3 ini) files.
I am not sure now which Odin ver I need to run and why I am asking to extract both files?

Any and all versions of Odin work just fine for flashing.
I have been flashing phones for about 3 years and Odin
of any version has never failed me.
Extract the INI file to the same folder as odin.
It does not matter what model name happens
to be in the ini file so no need to change/edit it.
Just be sure that you have the proper samsung usb driver installed in your computer
and a good usb cable cable connected firmly in your phone and computer's usb port.
Good luck!
And if you have issues, try a different cable and usb port.

Downgrade Direct from the Note 2 No pc Needed 4.3 -> 4.1.2

FACTS:
I Just dowgraded my 4.3 ota to 4.1.2 In 2 minutes literally. NO PC NEEDED! NO ISSUES!
The prerequisites :
Note 2 50% charged "Not necessary though"
Mobile odin pro app .
4.1.2 tar file by teshxx
It's not noted anywhere else of this being done but I just did it successfuly.
How to:
Mobil odin pro is same as odin on a pc but it's all done right from the t889
Which is supported by mobile Odin pro.
Buy$ or get mobile odin pro app.
Select the 4.1.2 tar and flash it you can Inject mobile odin and su into the flash prior to flashing the tar
Look for the options in mobile Odin
Essentially You will skip all the steps of using the PC odin method that has errors ans more steps.
No need to get Odin errors or bootloops No need to cf auto root.
This method seems to be problematic free.
Reboot phone and 4.1.2 will be in settings.
Along with superuser installed on 4.1.2.
KNOX does remain in download mode but has no affect or presence within the daily operating system or its functionality.
No superuser force close nothing.
To make it short you can now flash 4.1.2 roms.

Not trying to be picky, but mobile odin doesn't touch the bootloader at all. PC odin does. That is the reason the mobile odin process doesn't hangup like the pc versions do. A significant portion of the odin flash is not happening. If you boot into download mode you will see the knox counter staring back at you.
Having said that, I am glad you are happy with the results. It is good that you have options.

My point was that its a easy and available method to get back to 4.1.2
If one chooses to spend...a few bucks on mobile odin pro.

I guess my point was that Mobile Odin is not a *perfect* substitute for PC odin. If a person were to attempt to flash 4.3 odin files they would not get the bootloader updated and might have problems with WiFi and other issues as a result. It is a great piece of coding and very imaginative. It also has limitations.
My post is more for others in the audience who need to know this specific limitation. Personally I would be less than impressed if I'd spent $6 only to find that the app didn't do what I'd been lead to believe.
There was a guy over on Dr Ketan's patch thread who used mobile odin to try to flash the bootloader patch several times and just couldn't get it to work.
He thought that Mobile Odin = PC odin. It simply doesn't.
Enjoy your SIII LTE. It should be an awesome device for you. Happy New Year.

Thanks for the info. However, why are you going back to 4.1.2? What did you not like about 4.3? I stayed at 4.1.2 as I did not find many reasons to update. Thanks for you info.

Hello. I have found no issue whatsoever. I suppose that is why the Android Odin is paid while the Windows one is free. It does the job more easily with no fuss. I only want to point out that you need to get the right version to downgrade to. If you don't you may experience problems eg you might not be able to connect to the GSM network in your area or country. That has nothing to do with Mobile Odin though.
Yes, mobile Odin is indeed a very good application. The reason this works using Mobile Odin is that it does not flash the bootloader.
If you pack a tar.md5 file excluding the bootloader then you can downgrade using pc Odin too.

I am not sure if anyone has packed it yet. Did you try flashing any 4.1.2 custom roms ?
Custom roms are usually not packed with a bootloader and you should be able to flash them using any custom recovery.

You flash the recovery designed for your phone. Each supported version of twrp has its own version and download.
Root gives you access to system files, similar to an administrator account in Windows.
I have always a trained root on my Samsung phones (s2, s3, s4, nite2, note3), nexus ( Galaxy, n4, n5) by flashing supersu from a custom recovery. You can have a custom recovery without root.

Except for att note 4. Lol
I'm in Canada so I don't have access to a AT&T Note 4 which has a locked bootloader so TWRP is not even an option although root may be an option.
Canadian Samsung phones do not have a locked bootloader AFAIK.
