Change Carrier Name - Sprint - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Device: Sprint GSIII
ROM: Stock L710VPBLJ7
Experience: Noob
How do you change the "Sprint" carrier name on the lock screen and pull down menu? Search and read various threads but none seems to work with JB 4.1.1. The instructions/codes does not match any of the .xml files in SystemUI. As stated above, I am a noobie so any help would be greatly appreicated or even pointing me to the right post/thread.

Searched and found nothing? ...ya you're right, it doesn't work on 4.1.1 There is ABSOLUTELY no way that it can be done. Ever. In all eternity.

Lol jk. Go in /data and open eri.xml with a text editor. Somewhere at the bottom, you will see Sprint like three or four times. Change ALL OF THEM to whatever you want, save, and reboot. Fin.

have you tried just inserting/pasting yours, or any custom eri yet? Just to see if it works?
If you are running a stock based rom, the eri feature may not be in it...yet...
save time and effort and use The Peoples Rom or FreeGS3, both have the feature and are good stock based custom roms

I would recommend FreeGS3.

fiy eri.xml isn't on stock roms. You can download it and put it in /data. There is also another instance under /system/build.prop you should change.

Not sure if you have an answer to your question by now but the bootanimation.zip file should be in your /system/media directory.

Also make sure you check the permissions. Check the original file's and match if you have to. It took me forever to figure out why my custom boot wasn't working until I did that.

Galleryflow - Note II Gallery App

Here is the Note II gallery app ported over to our S3's by xator91of XDA. I have installed it on the new Jellybean Leak froom Freeza and it works great. It shows my Google pics and Facebook pics also. THIS IS ONLY FOR TW JELLYBEAN ROMS. THIS DOES NOT WORK ON ANY AOSP BASED ROM NOR DOES IT WORK ON ICS BASED TW ROMS! It will install and open on a TW ICS rom but you will get black thumbnails and no pics. If someone can fix that then more power to you.
I ABSOLUTELY TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS I AM JUST BRINGING IT OVER TO THE SPRINT FORUM SO OUR USERS CAN ENJOY THIS GREAT GALLERY! HERE IS THE LINK TO THE ORIGINAL THREAD BY XATOR91. PLEASE GIVE HIM ALL THANKS FOR THE PORT!
Installation: Flash zip from recovery and it will overwrite your current gallery. If you are on an odexed rom then use root explorer or a file manger of choice and remove the secgallery.odex also.

Here is how I installed it. Works great!!
Download the Zip from above post.
Place it somewhere on your phone. (Internal or external storage doesn't matter)
Using the RootExplorer go to system/Apps and move/delete secGallery2.apk. If odexed delete that one too. (I moves them to my SD card for safe keeping)
Exit and boot into recovery and flash the zip.
Reboot and everything should be good.

You have to do the media storage data (or something like that) then reboot and let the media scanner rerun.

Guys look at my previous post! You have to clear settings/gallery/data & cache AND settings/media storage/data & cache
I cannot make this any clearer! FYI erasing the data on the galley WILL NOT DELETE YOUR PICTURES!
If you are running an odex rom then you need to delete the gallery odex file in system/apps. If you are on a deodex rom then just flash and your old gallery will be erased. This will work on odex roms as I am using it on an odexed rom.
Thanks. I guessed I overlooked it. This worked after a reboot.

You need to change your build properties to be SAMSUNG-SGH-I317. You can use ROM Manager to do this. Select Performance then build.prop Editor. Look for ro.product.model. touch it and then change the property value and select OK. That should do it.
I have always been puzzled at why these guys who make this ROM don't have that as a default value. They post in the OP that you need to change this but I don't understand why it isn't the default. They get ticked off if you ask them about this but could stop all the questinos if they would just fix it in the build???
Make sure you reboot for the change to take affect.

To get rid of the Sprint animations delete them from /poweron and /poweroff. Dont overwrite them with something else, just delete them and use /system/media for any custom or stock LG animations. Hope this helped.

The Sprint Boot Animations are in carrier/cust/poweroff and /poweron. If you messed with /system/media you deleted stock LG animations not Sprint.

Thanks I'll try what you suggested when I get home
And if you could be so kind to explain how the permissions are set for the new animations and to delete the Sprint ones that would be helpful I usually know this stuff but I tried out iPhone for a year so I need to get back into android customization before the iPhone I had HTC one x on cyanogen thanks for all the help

yes you helped greatly just disabled the stock sprint animations now when i shutdown it doesnt do the lg animation which is fine because i want to get rid of them as well but the start up lg plays anyway to disable that one
rwrr are the permissions and any animations that are still playing are in system/media unless you're talking about the splash screen(the lg screen before the boot animation) in which case thats part of the kernel and not able to change.
