N7100X Demo Unit Standby Issue - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I work in EE store in the UK, we received 4 Demo units from Samsung labelled N7100x with no GSM module. We do also only have two phone stands so have the other two spare in the cupboard.
Anyway, I flashed the latest leak 4.1.2 firmware on the device its a full wipe via ODIN. The issue i have is when the display is off, after some time e.g 5mins I cannot wake the phone from standby and have to pull the battery or hold power/home. This happens all the time it is not related to the firmware as I also tried stock 4.1.1 official and same thing.
Would appreciate any advice or if you have experienced this issue and know a fix otherwise it will just sit in the cupboard at work :silly:
Cheers

It's bacause the cpu frequency in idle , try to root the phone and change the minimum frequency , mine is to 400 and never crashed in idle again , and the battery life is almost the same.

Just install a custom rom and it will be fine.

Battery serious problem

hey guys,i have been flashingmany roms every week for about 2 months, then I decided to start fresh.
wiped every thing via cwm and then flashed stock rom via odin, then rooted it.
problem is battery is as fast as HELL , and i have sudden drops, e.g. phone shuts down suddenly at 30% or even 50% , and when i connect charger it shows 0%.
tried battery calibration but no good.
I bought a new battery , and my phone still have sudden shutdowns when used for more than 30 minutes.
even offline.
Is my phone damaged ,or it has permanent leak ,even i change batteries?!
plz reply ASAP , and btw i dont have a screenshot cuz i am using stock 2.3.6.
I recommend you to go to a Samsung Costumer Service and ask for help. I think is a hardware issue, not a software issue.
Also, to use screenshot on GB, use Volume down + Home button.

Must be hardware. If the battery change doesn't quite cut it, then its a hardware problem.

[Q] Note 2 4.3 charging issues

Hello everybody hope your all well
Like the rest of the world i updated my note 2 to the 4.3 update that gives it galaxy gear compatibility and other things.
First few days it has been fine. Last night i let the phone drain and stuck it on charge overnight (making sure the plug was switched on)
Woke up this morning and turned my phone on and to my surprise it was only charged to 60%
I didn't have time to try recharging as i had to leave for work but as i have a charger at work i figured i would recharge in the office
Well it has been on charge all day and refuses to charge past 51% and for the life of me i have no idea why
Has anyone else had this problem and if so how have you resolved the issue, I have only had the phone a few weeks and it was fine before the update.
Thanks in advance you helpful lot
David
Hi David,
I have been facing the same issue.
Ever since Samsung has released N7100XXUEMK4 its been worst.
Few weeks later they released N7100XXUEMKD which made no good.
I have just updated my note 2 to the JB 4.3 N7100DDUEML4 which is at least better than the first 4.3 update.
Still facing battery issue and i tried to roll back to the previous 4.1.x firmware. It failed and now the KNOX warranty shows 1.
Tired everything possible. Worst part is the charging.
Hi buddy
I ended up factory resetting mine as i couldn't sort the charge problem.
So have Samsung released two updates since ?
On the upside rolling it back to 4.3 fixed the issues and i will hold off updating until KitKat is released

[Q] Some General G3 Questions

Hey guys ! Today I traded my S5 for a G3 and I have some questions :
1. Which is the latest and which is the best firmware ? I am currently on V10H. I see that there are V10i and V10j firmwares, but I don't get a OTA. Should I manually flash them and are they newer and better ?
2.Is it normal for the phone to heat up so much. My G3 heats up just from listening to music and using facebook messenger on 3G. The first boot after updateing my phone it was hot like an oven. Barely touchable on the top side of the screen. (also the brightness could't go beyond 90%)
3. If I root my G3, do I loose my warranty ?
4. Can I do something after rooting to improve the battery life and lower down the heat ?
5. My G3 uses around 10-12% overnight (6-7 hours) Isn't that too much ? My S5 used around 2-3% overnight...
6. Also on Antutu v5 at exactly 27% I get High temperature warning and my phone reboots. Anyone else having this problem ?
Please guys !

1) I think I and J are kind of the same but others will know better, they are the latest firmware.
2) No but what you call heat and what others call heat might be different but it shouldn't get anything more than warm at most.
3) Yes but you can revert back easily to keep warranty. I used Stump Root.
4) Yes lots of things but I haven't tried any as I have very good battery. There are things you can do without rooting as well.
5) Yes that is way too much. Mine uses no more than 2% over 8 hours but I have a few of the Google things turned off.
6) Never done it but from what I've read others have had the same problem.
If you have an SD card in the phone remove it and see if the heat will stop.
It is a Saturday so give it some time for others to answer.

1) My D855 is on 10H at the moment with no OTAs available at the moment. Most of the OTAs so far have just been small bug fixes and such (the change log for J is exactly the same as H). Its not worth trying to manually flash them yourself. Sometimes the update is available by the LG PC Suite before the OTA, so maybe give that a go.
2) The G3 warming up isnt uncommon. I can usually feel mine warming up around the power button in usage similar to yours. I wouldn't worry too much about the phone being hot after just booting from an update, the phone has probably been running the CPU flat out during the update and boot process to finish everything. The limited brightness is an automatic thing put in place by LG to prevent overheating. (If it was limited to 90%, then I would have thought it is not getting that hot otherwise the brightness would be limited even more)
3) Probably. I haven't rooted mine, but I believe there is a root counter/status thing in the hidden service menu that LG may look if ever your phone is sent back by which they may deny repairs or charge you for them out of warranty. (But if it is a genuine hardware defect, they may be lenient. I sent my HTC One back for repairs for the purple tint issue on the camera with the bootloader still unlocked, but they didn't say anything)
4) Not sure about that (as I haven't rooted).
5) That usage seems about the same drain I have when leaving the phone while it is on cellular data. My G3 has superb standby battery life while it is on WiFi.
6) I think that is a common occurrence with the G3, the phone is rebooting as the phone is getting too hot.

Thanks a lot for the info guys !
When my phone reboots during antutu it is not even warm. I even tried doing the benchmark in the fridge and same thing happened. It just makes no sense.
Also 1 more question - Is there some kind of a list of apps that are safe to remove/dissable ?

GT-I9195 810MHZ when charging

Hi,
Since a few weeks I have a gt-I9195 (S4 Mini, Android 4.2.2) and have some issues with the battery life.
After installing CPU Spy, I noticed that the device CPU suddenly starts running at the 810 MHZ frequency, without any reason. Sometimes for the whole day, until the battery dies. (turn off location, remove SD card, it all doesn't help. The phone is not used at all and sync is off).
Now, I just discovered that when pluging it into the original wall charcher, the CPU wakes from deep sleep and starts running at the 810 MHZ frequency until it is fully charged. My other phone (S4) doesn't have this issue and is kept in deep sleep while charging.
Any suggenstions?
Install a custom Kernel which solves the deep-sleep issues (or probably the issue will be solved by updating to Kitkat).
There are a couple of custom Kernels available here.

Thanks for the reply, but when installing a custom kernel, I assume it would triger the knox security flag. Can you confirm if it does?
If so, I prefer to wait for KitKat which is not available for my country yet.

You're right if you have Knox boot loader will trigger Knox (
Good news is that you can flash any official KitKat with Odin SMS won't trigger Knox

If you want to root your device you should be aware that rooting will trigger the Knox flag as well. All Kitkat firmwares with build date after June 3rd are patched - Towelroot will not work anymore.
I don't recall deep sleep while charging on custom kernels, are you guys simply makimg assumptions or you tested them?

When charging my S4, it is in 99% in deep sleep.
When charging my S4 mini, it is 0% in deep sleep.
both tested, both stock kernel.

And can you confirm that I can go back to 4.2.2 (downloaded from sammobile for my own country) after flashing a KitKat rom from another country. The reason I need to know is that I am still considering returning the device under warranty.

Mate, I already knew that S4 mini doesn't go in deep sleep while charging what I was saying is that, for my experience, stock or custom kernel doesn't make a difference in deep sleep. I used f4ktion, vikinger, brisk etc., and cpu frequency always kept at 810mhz while charging. I remember that my samsung galaxy mini used to behave more or less the same.
This phone likes very much 810mhz. Not only it keeps this frequency while charging with screen off, but also while you're for example listening to music or radios with screen off. Weird.

I think you can't downgrade anymore, because kk came with new bootloader, technically you can downgrade to official jb with the same bootloader as kk but I don't know if such thing exist.
About your wakelock can you post battery stats or wake lock detector.
My s4mini is duos but never seen the thing you describe. I think its a wakelock, do you use a dockstation or non stock charger?

This night I charged the phone while turned off, so I cannot see the issue. When battery gets low, I will try to create a wakelock screenprint.
For charging I use the official wall charger (micro usb plugged into the phone) no docking station.
Please, don't make him think he has a problem, EVERY s4 mini (or stock ones at least) have this behaviour when charging.

Mine dont hace this problem
Guys it's not a "problem", you don't even notice it if you don't look on cpu spy, BBS etc. Charge is quite slow when on but even when off is slow (more than 2 hours).
I'm assuming that:
you've got a GT-I9195 and not the dual/3g variant
you charge it with the cable

That is all correct, I now use charging when turned off, to avoid the CPU issue and it seems to have impact on the battery usage too.
Since charging when turned off, by battery life is great. I do not recall changing any other settings.
Now waiting for the Dutch KitKat update and see if that solves the issue with CPU while loading.

To improve battery life when you charge the phone while is ON, unplug it from charger at least 15mins after 100% notification (you know... the one that tells you to unplug it). Try not to use it during this time, then unplug it and you'll notice that the first % will go down much slower.
Today I've seen that a GT-I9195 with KK (friend of mine's phone) has this cpu behaviour as well while charging, but not at 810mhz. At 345mhz (which makes a bit more sense I think).

I'll try your tip on charging and indeed, Kitkat seems better, but still, my S4 is kept in deep sleep while charging, which is even better and should also be possible for the mini I would assume.
Yes you can downgrade from KitKat to 4.2.2 only with Brasilian firmware...

Disaster suddenly

Hi all: I have been posting in the CM11 ROM for this device but I figured I would post my issues here and see if anyone has any insight or experiences.
I was on CM11 for 4 days with stability, speed and life was great. Last night I randomly got a reboot when looking at twitter. Fine, no big deal. 2 minutes later it happened again. Odd. I went into the play store and then it froze. I had to research and found out how to reboot it. Once rebooted, it would restart again. So, I went into TWRP, wiped Everything and then refreshed the ROM. Within 1 minute it froze again.
I flashed Stock and sure enough it froze on me. Noe I am annoyed and went to bed and figured I would deal with it this am. I plugged it in last night under 10% battery. Woke up 8 hours later and its at 14%. 2 hours since and its now at 17%. Clearly something is wrong.
Full disclosure---i bought a best buy geek squad refurbished unit and have done so many times with tablets with no problems. I am still within my 45 day return window and will probably just exchange for a new one since the refurbished price is the same as it was. Sadly, I wish they would give me a new one for the black friday price.
Has anyone had such experiences or have a clue what went wrong? Thanks
How did you flash the ROM? Tell each steps on how you flashed it. Did you mess with the CPU clock speed or anything? Did you also have any battery problems readings before flashing? I did a dirty flash of cm11 in which led to problems later, so I'm now on stock rooted and still works fine with no freezes. Probably tarp crashed? Happened to me.
I rooted via odin. I them used twrp manager to get the recovery and did a total clean flash. Wiped everything including system. NO I did not have any battery issues nor did I mess with cpu clock speed ( don't even know how ). All I did was use xposed to try the mutliwindow solution and downloaded lux and a material theme. Nothing out of the ordinary I don't think.

Either the battery is bad or could be something with the software. The only time when mine reboots is when I use to Much ram and it freezes. Other than that no problems.
I plugged it into another outlet. The outlet I always use charges me iPad and note 4 without a problem. I left for an hour and sure enough I got home and the tablet was at 100%. Yay. I started downloading my apps and noticed while still plugged in, the battery was at 95%. Odd. I took out the charger and Bam, rebooted. Off to best buy.
Wow it restarted and now shows 7 percent. I'll let you know what bb says.

Similar experience
I had a similar experience with my 2012 Nexus 7,it turned out that the connections between the charging port, battery and device were all faulty. They weren't soldered together properly when the device was manufactured (not as rare a condition as we are lead to believe either, regardless of manufacturer). I was lucky the I was able to take the device apart to check the problem without leaving any evidence that I had opened it, and I was able to exchange it. So from my experience, that kind of error always appears to relate to some form of battery issue. Also had it happen to me with a Galaxy S4, however it wasn't anything to do with the device itself, it was damaged connections on the battery.
