Sound Search Widget...aka Google Ears - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Am I missing something? Everything I read, says it comes with Jelly Bean, but I have yet to find it on my phone. I have found some mirrored apks for it, but didnt want to install them if I'm just over looking it on my phone. Anyone have any info on this?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

IIRC this comes with Jelly Bean 4.2.x

Well, that would explain it. Thanks.

Nah, it comes with 4.1+ I had it on CM10 on my Atrix forever ago. It just seems it was taken out of our build of Jelly Bean for whatever reason.
After a little research it seems that they don't include it in 4.1 very often and sometimes it is frozen. You can try the apk from here (that is the 4.2 version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742652
but it may still be frozen after installing and the only way to unfreeze it is to use TiBu or something.
edit: this old version might work better. It says no root required on it.

edit2: that second link points to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28105611&postcount=23
Which I downloaded and installed and got the Sound Search widget with.

This functionality is in the latest version of Google Now. Just open Google Now and say "what song is this?"

Good point!

You can also type it in the search bar. If you type queries in google now, the results aren't spoken either.

[PORT] Google Now Jelly Bean *IN DEVELOPMENT*

Google Now from Jelly Bean is now working on Galaxy S2 running ICS.
BUT its the initial release.
Steps:
1) Delete GoogleQuickSearchBox using root explorer in system/app
2) Reboot ur device
3) Install the apk
4) Change permissions(may not be required)
5) Enjoy
NOTE: VOICE INPUT IS NOT WORKING CAUSE IT CANT CONNECT TO THE NETWORK FOR SOME REASON.

Just curious, will this method also work with the alpha jellybean release??
-snip- didn't see
thank you.
what works?
thanks friend.
So its Google Now except the voice input? Sounds interesting.
Just like the old Google search
Its essentially just the old ics google search with just JB theme on it... missing some files that prevents it to connect to Network .. so neither voice command can be used, nor Google now works as it should be automatically providing updates ...
So in all generality, its just simple google search now... anyways good work around parsing error.. maybe we will get voice working soon too..
+1
I think it is also possible to make written questions instead of spoken in the original Google Now, so it is not unusable.

Doesn't Google Now without voice kind off render the point of it useless ?
Anyways Good work.
Will follow the progress of this everyday
Guys, this is taken from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224
You'll see it's still a work in progress. Not sure why someone decided to post it here, as it's pretty much useless without voice.
Yeah gotta say that it's great to share and all, but the title is terribly misleading.
Yeah, he should state in the name of the thread that it is in developement.

Install Google Now on rooted ICS

I looked through and did a couple searches and didn't see anything about this on the Galaxy Nexus forums so I figured I would share it here for anyone wanting to try it. You must be rooted and on an AOSP based ROM. Voice isnt working yet but other than that it's working fine for me.
http://lifehacker.com/5923288/get-google-now-on-your-rooted-ice-cream-sandwich-phone
Good find. Useful for people who require an app for their day to day that hasn't been updated to JB yet, or those unwilling to lose their favorite ROM's features.
Otherwise, you're better off upgrading to JB
I'm holding out for AOKP, hopefully it doesn't take them too long to integrate JB after the source is released.

I also get a toast message when I open the app that says "Network error. Check your connection." But it functions just fine, there is no missing data connection or anything. Is that what you are refering to? You get the message but it works anyway, right?
it doesn't work with the network error.

fixed with this though.

The new voice assistance added into JB, i was wondering if it was possible to be ripped / spliced with ICS
Exactly like rshift said, there is a version for ICS, but it's not optimized whatsoever. Some but not all cards work, and I'm yet to receive a notification fro doing things outside of the house.
To top it all off, no, the voice input and Text to Speech are still broken because of what they think is a kernel issue, so don't expect anything useful/different from your normal Google Search until we get a Jelly Bean port of our own.
However, if you want to try it for yourself, go ahead and look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224
The instructions are pretty straightforward, but make sure to create a backup like it says in case something goes wrong.
Google will definitely have to release this for ICS. How many people will even have a phone on 4.1 in the near future.
I just booted up a working version of 4.1 and was super sad to see that Google Now wasn't working yet...But they are working hard to get it going!

Click on Address no longer brings up MAPS

Used to be able to click on an address in text messages or in any browser and android would open it in MAPS or EARTH or NAVIGATION etc.
I recently installed AOKP milestone 6 for the first time, coming from Caulks 1.6. I'm not sure if it's an AOKP issue or if it's a 4.0.4 issue or what. I do know my buddy just lost this function on his G Nexus when he updated to Jelly Bean. That makes me think it's not a 4.0.4 issue because it worked normally for him on ICS. I definitely haven't taken any OTA updates so even if it was part of the Apple patent bullsh!t how would it be effecting me?
This is really important to me because I use this function multiple times a day.
Also, Maps takes forever to focus when I zoom in on a map. Any ideas on that?

Strings is just a way of using localized data contained to point to more data that it may contain. Its a SQL function, well, to me.
But I do not know if its a root or an app function within Android itself. Someone smarter than me may have that answer.
I'd try clearing cache and data for the particular app, removing, then reinstall. But it may be more severe of an issue if no app will work.
Did you recently flash a ROM?
: edit: Please disregard that obvious dumb question I ask at the end. Its been a long day..

I personally haven't used aokp, and I apologize for asking a question that you clearly answered in your op. Been a long day.
I'd check to see if anyone with your setup can recreate or maybe, possibly, you had a corrupted or failed partial file or a failed write during flash.

Ok just tested and it works in dolphin but not chrome. I just started using Chrome so that must not be a feature. As for sms I guess the it just doesn't work. I'll look into if I have a jelly bean sms app. I bet that's it.

I think you're on to something. There are multiple goecoder issues, random, with jelly bean on the the 'ol search. Multiple fixes if you're looking for a workaround.. NOT promoting a site, but stack overflow shows a few..
Open issues shows a few too.. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list Granted they are listed for the Nex..

And, to beat a dead horse deader, cause you touched on something I actually use, Andriod Chrome is using geocoding.. Odd that it isn't working for you. My maps in ICS have that function but it may still be broken in JB. Reference here.

[Q] Google Wallet

With the latest update for Google wallet, can I update it thru the market or wait for a modified apk? Also I've seen multiple threads on how to install wallet on the S3. One way being for touchwiz ROMs and another for AOSP ROMs. can anyone point me in the direction for the AOSP install? I've tried with touchwiz and it didn't work with all the threads. So now I wanna see if there's a specific way for AOSP.
my touchwiz version worked great. I am now on AOSP and hopefully can get the newest wallet and tutorial on the install as well....i cant find that specific technique either.
I'm using Paranoid Android ROM which is CM10 based and I followed instruction on this thread to get my Wallet working on my SGIII without any problem.
I also used that thread when I was on TW ROM too... for AOSP based ROM, just don't install the lib&nfc fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1709
Not all OTA's work with the Google Wallet patch. For example:
I'm still running the very first UVALEM firmware with the OTA UVALH2 Radio/Modem. (I'm rooted, thus I was able to install a different radio)
I choose not to download any firmware update because I like Google Wallet that much, and because I don't care much about the Brightness Slider.
Has anyone found the newest hacked wallet apk? I think it was updated yesterday? also I read that if you want to add cards you have to change your build prop to Galaxy Nexus or HTC jewel, add the cards, reboot, then change the settings back to normal.
I read that the wallet doesn't work on LH2 ROMs. Does that mean I it won't work on my AOKP ROM?

It's posted on that section but it shouldn't hurt to try it since you aren't flashing or fiddiling with anything for different devices. All you are doing is just setting the permissions for the app APK. You might also have to change the build prop to the nexus or any device that wallet supports, just in case.

Great, ima try the first one since it already has the latest mod for wallet
Edit: tried the latest wallet and just want to make sure if its suppose to say "unsupported device" on top?

Well if you would have clicked "learn more" you would know that it only says that because you have a rooted device. It doesnt affect the usability of the app at all.

I was gonna use it today, but now it says "it's unsupported on my carrier/device" and closes.
This woked for me on Frosty JB
I'm on Frosty JB V5.
Initially I tried the below steps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083
I was able to get wallet installed and add cards. And then I started getting the "unfortunately, NFC service has stopped" errors whenever I opened the browser, gmail, play store and some other google apps (not all).
Then I reverted back to my nandroid before wallet and tried the below patch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921233
Here are the steps that worked for me:
Change build.prop (I used Galaxy Nexus)
Reboot to recovery
Flash the patch JMJellybeanWalletFix.zip
Flash com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.modaco.1.5-r79-v5.zip (from the first link)
Restart. Go to play store, search for google wallet and make sure automatic update is off. Or else it overwrites the app and it doesnt work anymore.
Open wallet, login and add card
restore original build.prop and reboot.
I still havent used it to purchase anything. But atleast I've got the thing up and running.
Thanks I'll check it out and report back
Edit: I'm on codename android and when I change the prop to nexus settings it works, but when I go to back to original it says it's not supported but the carrier/network
any idea why?
