[PORT] Google Now Jelly Bean *IN DEVELOPMENT* - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Google Now from Jelly Bean is now working on Galaxy S2 running ICS.
BUT its the initial release.
Steps:
1) Delete GoogleQuickSearchBox using root explorer in system/app
2) Reboot ur device
3) Install the apk
4) Change permissions(may not be required)
5) Enjoy
NOTE: VOICE INPUT IS NOT WORKING CAUSE IT CANT CONNECT TO THE NETWORK FOR SOME REASON.

Just curious, will this method also work with the alpha jellybean release??

-snip- didn't see

thank you.

what works?
thanks friend.

So its Google Now except the voice input? Sounds interesting.

Just like the old Google search
Its essentially just the old ics google search with just JB theme on it... missing some files that prevents it to connect to Network .. so neither voice command can be used, nor Google now works as it should be automatically providing updates ...
So in all generality, its just simple google search now... anyways good work around parsing error.. maybe we will get voice working soon too..
+1

I think it is also possible to make written questions instead of spoken in the original Google Now, so it is not unusable.

Doesn't Google Now without voice kind off render the point of it useless ?
Anyways Good work.
Will follow the progress of this everyday

Guys, this is taken from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224
You'll see it's still a work in progress. Not sure why someone decided to post it here, as it's pretty much useless without voice.

Yeah gotta say that it's great to share and all, but the title is terribly misleading.

Yeah, he should state in the name of the thread that it is in developement.

Give it some time and it'll be working quit knit picking this is the closest we have gotten to getting it on you and other people phone.

Dropbox App BETTER THAN Pre-release Update!!

EDIT: The update (2.0) is now live in the market, but you might want to BEWARE, read my comments below. These "bugs" I mention have turned out to be "features" of 2.0 so they will break what I listed. Update at your own risk. For me and the way I use Dropbox, the new pretty UI was definitely not worth the lost functionality. Fortunately I came across another Beta version (1296) that brings all the goodness of the UI update without breaking any of the good stuff the old version had! New file below
I just received a Dropbox Pre-release Update that I thought I'd share with the good peeps of XDA. (Posted this in Android Apps too, but thought I should take care of my E4GT peeps directly.)
Some nice updates coming down the pipe, but we get to play with it now. (Make sure you have a backup of your folder and previous DB setup.)
From the email:
Here's the stuff we've added:
• Favorites: quick offline access to files
• Bulk upload photos and videos
• Access all file and folder actions with just one tap
• Improved gallery view
• Upload from and export to your phone's memory
• Rename files and folders
• Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) improvements
• Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements
EDIT: Some nice UI changes, but some bugs in this as well:
The sdcard/Dropbox file is moved to sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch and will no longer play nice with wallpapers, ringtones, etc.
You now add files as Favorites to make them available offline, but there is currently no way to make folders favorites, so you would have to mark each file you want to use offline
No longer an indicator showing whether a file is already downloaded or not
Added bulk upload, but still no bulk download
Lost the updating/downloading notification on the status bar, now we don't know when the files finished uploading/downloading
And here's the apk. If you still want to give it a go. And the Dropbox Forum discussion if you want to join in.

You're welcome. It's a pretty nice setup. Will be nice when they get a controllable two-way sync for Android in the native DB app.
@jerdog, sorry bud, meant to post this in Themes and Apps. Feel free to move if it is not General enough
I'm kinda upset Android just now getting this update when IOS had it for months

Based on the DB forums, looks like a different update and it's easier to work on iOS with it's limited number of variables (screen sizes, versions, vendor UI's, etc.) compared to Android. So it's not surprising that it generally takes development longer for Android apps and updates.

Not at all. In fact if you go to the forum page I linked in the OP, you can find the link for the apk there as well.
I don't understand how they still don't have two way syncing on the native app, but look on the market and you can find apps that do this just fine.

Is this different than the "unreleased beta" that's been floating around XDA for about a month?

No idea, I haven't seen that one and nothing came up with Dropbox1306 when I searched, so probably not. As far as I can tell by the DB forum, this just came out today to beta testers. I only received it in my email about 30 minutes before I posted it so I think it is fairly new. Do you have a link to this "unreleased beta" that you are talking about? It would be pretty easy to tell if it's the same.

I think I just answered my own question, as I realized my "beta" file is called Dropbox1296... Anyhoo, here it is: http://db.tt/fOjjMX2q (and it's awesome).
But if this new one is an update of that^, (and, number-wise, it seems like it must be) then I'm switching, as Dropbox just gets better and better with every update.

If you give the one I posted a go, make a nandroid first and copy your sdcard/Dropbox folder to your PC because the latest removes it and moves the files into a Data folder tree. I still haven't received a good answer as to why. Wouldn't be a big deal, but I think it screws up the ability for the phone to recognize the files for media purposes (i.e. ringtones, wallpapers, etc.) Check out the forum link I posted and you can get a feel for what's going on.
This update is freaking amazing!!!!

I just updated the OP with more info on a different Beta I discovered. This is the beta before 1306 and provides all the beauty of the new UI with all the functionality and ease of the old version! Really good stuff. Personally, I wouldn't update in the market. I'd use 1296, I am.

Hey buddy:
*Thanks for the link in the OP to the Forum about the whole thing: after trying both, and realizing what you'd be giving up with either 2.0 or 1306, I'd have to agree with you....
1296 is where it's at.
I might make the suggestion that anyone who goes this route should definitely turn off automatic updates in the Market.
(I've accidentally done this before: I'll find a beta of something that I really like, and then forget the fact that it is a beta, then update it through the market: thus losing the functionality I had loved from the beta version.)
Anyway, thanks for the option: if I hadn't read up on it, I'd have just blindly updated it, just because of the version number.

EDIT: and thanks to you, John, for the inverted version, btw.

No problem. The only issue or "enhancement" with 1296 is this new "feature" they have for downloading files. No more long pressand automatically into the appropriate folder. Now it's "download"and then select a location. But at least we keep the /sdcard/Dropbox root folder in this version!
If Dropbox actually listens to its community, those "enhancements" should be dealt with in the next update.

Maybe this way, my downloads folder doesn't look like a complete train-wreck.)

Install Google Now on rooted ICS

I looked through and did a couple searches and didn't see anything about this on the Galaxy Nexus forums so I figured I would share it here for anyone wanting to try it. You must be rooted and on an AOSP based ROM. Voice isnt working yet but other than that it's working fine for me.
http://lifehacker.com/5923288/get-google-now-on-your-rooted-ice-cream-sandwich-phone
Good find. Useful for people who require an app for their day to day that hasn't been updated to JB yet, or those unwilling to lose their favorite ROM's features.
Otherwise, you're better off upgrading to JB
I'm holding out for AOKP, hopefully it doesn't take them too long to integrate JB after the source is released.

I also get a toast message when I open the app that says "Network error. Check your connection." But it functions just fine, there is no missing data connection or anything. Is that what you are refering to? You get the message but it works anyway, right?
it doesn't work with the network error.

[Request] Stock Samsung apps for CM10

Hey guys, just quick request on my part. I was wondering if anyone could upload the stock Samsung apps (specifically s voice and memo) for cm10. The only link I found to them anywhere was a drop box that had been removed or deleted at some point.
Thanks much
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
The stock Samsung apps require the TouchWiz framework and will not work on CM10.
In the other thread I found it seemed to be working for the other guys. But isn't Google now supposed to work in essentially the same way? Although googles servers are on the fritz right now
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Do you mind linking me to the thread? I know most stock features like Smart Stay and the wave hand over phone won't work on CM10 and when I originally did my research before flashing CM9 I was told very specifically that most of the stock Samsung apps were built into the TW framework.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788749
From July but it seems like s voice was hit or miss from the responses
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I vaguely remember that thread. I think there were so many bugs and things going on people just gave up trying to force it to work. If you're just interested in S-Voice and Memo try searching the Play Store. You won't get the exact apps, but I'm sure there's similar apps that have the same features. And now that Google Now is working on CM10, I really don't see too much of a point in S-Voice.

Ok, guys. Start your engines - here's the download and instructions you need to get the leaked Gmail 4.2 up and running on your device. Keep in mind that this is an unreleased version so some things may be buggy or broken, though I haven't run into any problems.
If you somehow don't know what I'm talking about, we have the next, unreleased version of Gmail, and we're finally allowed to share it with you. Gmail 4.2 finally has pinch-to-zoom, a nifty new swipe-to-archive/delete feature, and a bunch of other things.

Maybe a option to disable on select contacts, or an enable/disable button, that would be perfect for me.

Nah, it comes with 4.1+ I had it on CM10 on my Atrix forever ago. It just seems it was taken out of our build of Jelly Bean for whatever reason.
After a little research it seems that they don't include it in 4.1 very often and sometimes it is frozen. You can try the apk from here (that is the 4.2 version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742652
but it may still be frozen after installing and the only way to unfreeze it is to use TiBu or something.
edit: this old version might work better. It says no root required on it.

edit2: that second link points to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28105611&postcount=23
Which I downloaded and installed and got the Sound Search widget with.
This functionality is in the latest version of Google Now. Just open Google Now and say "what song is this?"
