It enables you to put on standard Sony software on a Sony Xperia smartphone which has the boot loader unlocked.

For now it supports Xperia™ S, Xperia™ arc and Xperia™ arc S, but we plan to add support for more models going forward. At the moment, one software version is available for each supported phone, but our ambition is to offer a selection of software versions released for each phone. For example, this could mean that you can choose between GB and ICS releases.

Android 4.0 updates soon?
Sony Ericsson has submitted its Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo handsets to the PTCRB in the US to test them for compatibility with Google's Ice Cream Sandwich platform.
The PTCRB is a North American alliance of cellular providers, and tests to make sure the phone will run smoothly on all networks when updated to new software.
Sony Ericsson has now submitted its Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo for testing, although there's no word on the Arc S or Neo V at this time - presumably these are either the same thing or will be submitted for their own inclusion in good time.
Beginning again Either way, it's excellent news for the reams of fans that are looking forward to giving their handset a new lease of life when Android 4.0 lands - we're intrigued to see what Sony Ericsson will do beneath its TimeScape overlay.
The move shows that the soon to be solely Japanese firm is sticking to its word - where before Sony Ericsson handsets were among the worst for getting the latest version of Android, a tweak to the UI means it can now be 'unhooked' much more easily from the OS to facilitate upgrades.
Given the phones are in testing now, we're hopeful for an Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo Ice Cream Sandwich UK release date of somewhere in February 2012.

Hey guys I have a sony ericsson xperia arc (LT15i). I would like to update my phone to the official sony website to ICS4.0. But I've heard that it could make my phone lag. But if I just use my phone for text message and phone calls. Would it be okay? Or will it still be lagging? Can you guys give me some pros and cons updating my Xperia Arc?
Also My xperia arc is bootloader unlocked. So does it mean I can't update my phone offcially from sony? Thanks
Yes you can't update from Sony with unlocked bootloader! You have to relock it first!
As far ICS is concerned, it lies on views of different user, but for making calls n txting, it should serve well!

hey dont forget to check your si number at sony ericsson web site update isnt out for every arc yet it might take 19 days more or less for your si number to be updated going off the 4.0.3 for the arc s.
This may or may not be a dumb question. idk. regardless, I'm contemplating buying a Xperia Ion, but one of the things holding me back is the roms. Will roms listed for the Xperia S work on the Ion? I'm aware they are the same internally, but idk if there are any loopholes. Also, if so, is there a reliable Jellybean rom available? Thanks in advance
EDIT: never mind, its resolved. i was being lazy and didnt scroll down far enough to see the specific dev threads.
Xperia iON, Xperia S and ACRO S has almost same hardware specs and operation wise there's not much difference between these three models.
Themes/Apps and any sort visual modifications made for Xperia S, also works flawlessly in iON and ACRO S too. This is why these 3 Models are together.
But in case of ROM there's a specific section for Xperia iON, iON development. So you do not need to try Xperia S ROM in iON if you do not want to.
Go to iON development and search for ROMs. Available ROMs are listed there.
i am a xperia s user who got this phone during ealry 2013,maybe i am late but xperia s isnt that old as many people think.launched with android 2.3,updated to android 4.0.and took a year for a final android 4.1 update.updates were good but i feel xperia s was killed before its life cycle, because of sony delays.and what about xperia ion,its still left with .200 buggy firmware.if 18 months is the life cycle,is the matter all say to justify, what about xperia sl.it is still in its living stage.i just wanted to know am i the only to think so or there are more people who think the same ? and dont give the reason about snapdragon s3 drivers.if sony really wants to update, its not hard for a big company.please share your thoughts.xperia s and its brothers deserved a taste of kitkat but killed coz of the update delays
You are right bro.. Sony Xperia S update sucked big time.. As a normal phone Xperia S is great to be honest but as advanced users Xperia series should be avoided..I have seen far more developer interest for my Galaxy S which I bought in 2011(too late) saw far more developer support than the Xperia S.
Developer interest in Xperia phones is lukewarm at best..
Sony Playstation and TVs are great but Sony sucks when it comes to phones and their crappy VAIO laptops..
Sony don't want to release anymore drivers because our Snapdragon S3 uses an old and slow architecture ( Scorpion ) and they completely abandoned it for Krait.
Despite our processor being slow as f***, I don't care much about anything else.. our device can do almost everything an Xperia Z2 can, but of course not as good as Sirius does it, but it can. Now i'm currently porting and flashing Z2 apps and mods to keep my XS alive.
With some heavy modding and the right things in the correct places, my Xperia S runs smooth and almost never lags. I have Sony's latest apps. The only reasons I think about of buying a Z2 or maybe a Z3 (dunno how it's going to be called) is because of XS's small screen, the crappy and plastic build, the lack of 4G and the battery..
And so many great developer from here move to latest xperia and leave us alone... So sad... this device can't live without support from developer.

I dont know if i am posting in the correct category, but i hope so. I am trying to find out if there is still a Sony Music app tha comes on the new Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 models and what it actually looks like compared to the old music app which i understand,Sony has discontinued now. Can anyone please let me know what the new Music app looks like and if it can be ported for use on other Sony devices such as my Xperia XZ2
Do you mean Xperia 1 and 10 Mark II ?
If you meant them they aren't released yet so I think non of us have hands on them.
I however got access to a Xperia 10ii prototype and it seems like it's a first generation prototype because it's Sony in only Hardware side,
On the software side it's totally stock
