Any custom kernel should be compatible with any custom rom, as long as the Android version is correct.
Ya..

Yup, or a stock, whatever you prefer flashing. To prevent bootloop/brick make sure you flash a kernel that supports your android version and read the rom's posts to see if it works completely with the kernel. Had a problem with the JB kernel and our JB MIUI, home kept foceclosing and such, but coliv_aja fixed it and posted a compatible version for the rom.

I've tried the following ROM and I ended up using ArpegGioMod 0.8 with Link2SD now.
SimplyGio 1.3
CyanogenMod 7.1 KANG (RC-3.0)
Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1
ArpegGioMod 0.8
I'm using cyan kang RC 3.0, phiexz
little confuse,, However still remembering my former rom, Particle, by hyriand
the former has wifi problem, but the music player n effect was excellent, and also no problem, except mount warning issue...
the RC 3.0 I'm using now is promoted to be having wifi worked,,,
but I never found this rom that way, Im stucked to decide which way should I...
hi, what about your rom,,,
can u describe and tell about those following roms by your opinion???
SimplyGio 1.3
Pretty stable and supports other language, my dad has been using it on his Gio for over a month now.
CyanogenMod 7.1 KANG (RC-3.0)
I had some issue with GPS and split camera screen, other than that it has been pretty good and I used it for about 3 weeks between RC2 and 3. I'll probably go back to this again later.
Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1
Had some issue with market and S2E but didn't spend too much time on this ROM.
ArpegGioMod 0.8
Having some problem with Link2SD now and I'll try the 0.8.1.1 boot and dtapps2sd later.
I'm choosing between ArpegGioMod and CM 7.1 RC3 depending on what dtapps2sd is like on the ArpegGioMod.
For your wifi problem, did you load the modem file when you load the Particle ROM?
I am using CyanogenMod 9
Im am using Cyanogenmod 7.2 because in Cyanogenmod 9 im stuck in Bootloop every time i try (i probably tryed it more than 10 times)
PS: Sorry for my bad english, im from Germany

I've had success with cm7.2, cm9 and arpegiomod.
I am currently using cm7.2 because it's the one I find to be the most stable of the bunch. CM9 is quickly catching up though, looking forward to using it full-time in the near future
I'll be making one...
I've used:
Cm7.1 didn't use very long
Cm7.2 most stable custom ROM for me
ArpegGioMod 0.8 best ROM based on stock for M.
Particle ROM worked great for me as long as you preserve your baseband. Second best stock ROM for M. Kernel works great for overclocking and scripts.

I'm now using GioPro v1.4 and yesterday I've used CM9..
CM9 is good enough, but the battery life isn't so good..
GioPro 1.4, but I'm going back to SimpliGio, or maybe see if I can get CM7 or CM9 working.
The problem is, I was a newb and flashed by modem. Now I can't connect to Virgin/Bell (ie no SMS, phone calls, nothing).
Anybody know where I can either get a stock modem for the GT-S5660m or stock firmware for it and extract the modem? Most of the "official" firmwares I've seen have been for the non-m model only.

In Firmwares, right?
I only see for the GT-S5660 non-M model. And a GT-S5660V version? What's that?
Edit: Nvm, it's for Oceania.
If you see regular thread, search for something with MUG baseband, its also for M model

I don't entirely understand your post. Do you mean search the site itself or the forum?
And what, exactly, would I search? "MUG baseband"?
Should I just make a new topic? Don't want to take over this thread...
Also, my phone is confused. I just tried flashing the GT-S5660 firmware at sammobile, and my phone shows it as being GT-S5660L. Is that because of the firmware or is that really my model number?
I meand to say this

I have 2 Gios, one is already running a new ROM(GioPro) and is overclocked and now I would like to just overclocked the other Gio.
The phone is already ROOT and as expected, Antutu CPU Master cant overclock the stock kernel.
My question: Can I just replace the kernel and then overclock the stock ROM or I have to install a new ROM ?
And if it is possible to just change the kernel witch one should I use ?
Thank you.
You need custom overclockable kernel for stock roms. Look over here
try phiexz's kernel. He made kernel for stock rom too. But i never tried it.

Was that a serious answer?
To simplify:
Q. "What kernel should I use"
A. "Use one of the kernels"
That's essentially what you just said.
@OP Use either the standard kernel that comes in the .rar (called boot.img) OR use the mjolnir kernel. (I'm talking about CM9 only here).
I'm using boot.img inside the zip of rom. Thanks!

I experience very high batterydrain in CM 7.2 RC 2 ....
I lost battery from 100% to 38% in just 1 night!!! Wifi etc. are off, just stupid 2G.
Any idea why that is happend? I reflashed the rom, to be sure everything is correct, but nothing has changed...

PS: i am using the stock Cm 7 kernel...

4 days is my record. Gingerbread 4.0.2.A.0.62, baseband 64, stock kernel, certain customizations done.
Using this, top performance and battery, no ICS/JB ROM can beat this.

If you haven't found the link to the development section by now.
Can Perseus kernel be flashed thru TRWP the same way as a custom ROM? Do I need to clear cache and Dalvik before I flash? Is the Perseus kernel carrier dependent? Is the latest version of Perseus compatible with CleanROM 3.0? I understand this is a question for a different thread or forum but I can't post on an development specific topics yet.

Yes. Don't have to but won't hurt, I always wipe dalvik and cache when I flash anything.. No. Yes.
Flashed with no issues. Thanks!

I apologize in advance if this has been answered elsewhere, but are kernels installed by each custom rom? For instance if I had installed the latest Perseus kernel with CleanRomX, and then decided to install back to the stock rom, would that overwrite the Perseus kernel?
I don't have the answer but just go to "About" in your phone settings and check to see what kernel version you are running after you flash

As long as that stock rom has the boot.img. If not, then the stock kernel can also be found in the Perseus op. Just check in your about phone to see what kernel you have

The kernel comes with an app called STweaks. Should be in your app drawer
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Yes indeed, use stweaks to customize your device
It works great and remembers settings

I just can't justify undervolting when I get stellar (58 hrs with 6 hrs screen time and then some) battery life without doing so. Some things are best left alone IMO!

I just installed 32.1 using TWRP.
1. Copy Perseus-alpha32.1-n7100-CWM.zip to internal storage using abd.
2. Power down and booted into Recovery. Vol+,Home,Power.
3. Did a Backup of everything except the cache to external SD. (took ~7 mins)
4. Wiped cache and Davalik-cache. (<1 min.)
5. Installed the Perseus-alpha32.1-n7100-CWM.zip (<10 sec)
