So I did a very silly thing last week. I cracked the screen. I cracked it so bad, in fact, that is does not light up in any way. I did another silly thing. All my titanium backups were to the internal SD card, not to the external card like they ought to have been. So now, I am in a bit of a pickle. I need to get all my SMS messages and contacts,
I need the data but I can't get to it because I can't see anything on the screen to boot it into CWM recovery to mount as USB. The phone was running 2.3 (not ICS)
Finally figured it out!

D + P (to book into recovery, hold down for 5 seconds then let go of P, wait two seconds, let go of D)

i know about that thread orb3000 but we dont talk about the BOOTLOADER, we talk about the BOOT-MENU where u can bakup ure ROM from current device to an SD card
i cant get into the boot menu if i push reset+camera !!!
thats the problem
grretz
didn't know Uni had a boot-menu
I believe for backing up ROM, you can use MTTY
I'm sure it's there in the wiki somewhere
Reset your device (using the SR hole) and then HOLD the camera button tight until you get the menu.
So the key thing is to HOLD the button after you hit the reset.
DOMy
you're joshing me? I have G3 and can't do that... (On WM6.51)
It simply boots up as normal. What does this 'bootmenu' allow you to do?
proble installing HikaRi_2___2 and DIB_v1.0_ita
I start the rom program...all goes well till the phone restarts goes through the coloured lines and then to the next screen with the progress line at 0% and that's where all ends.
The bottom of the screen shows USB
What am I doing wrong?
I also switched of my firewall and the problem remains the same.
Please help
Thanks in advance
Do it using Internal Storage way:
Step 1:
Get your RUU_.nbh file and change it to DIAMIMG.nbh then place this file in your devices Internal Storage 4G.
Step 2:
Soft Reset then immediately press Vol. Down + Back Arrow (Don't let go until you see a grey screen)
Step 3: Press Power Button to Flash Rom.
Done! Same method can be used for Radio's as well. Don't forget to Hard Reset devices with ROMs . Radio's work fine with out a hard reset.

oh and welcome to XDA and please dont post the same question multiple times.
Here's the thing , I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone a while back (probably using an already outdated software , if i remembered correctly it was 2.3.3 , but i knew i followed the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650)
Today, my phone asked if I wanted to update the software (like an automated software update) and i could choose to update or not and i chose yes but now , my phone won't start up for like 3 hours already . I tried turning it on but it won't turn on , i tried charging it but there isn't any lights which was supposed to be there .
So I decided to google it and i followed the instructions here
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/26720
but after installing both , choosing my phone , followin the instructions on update service , it gets stuck on "it contains a modified software that cannot be updated" so decided to come back here to ask you guys what I should do .
Right now , all I want to do is for my phone to start up again , any ideas ?
edit : right now , i took out the battery , and put it back in . This time when I tried to turn it on , the vibrate is there which wasn't there initially and theres 1 flash of the green light on the side of the phone .
and also , i think its recognized by the computer because i can hear the sound notification (the same sound when you plug a USB into a computer) which wasn't there before I did the update service thingy .
edit 2 : it won't go into safemode either when i tried clicked the right and left buttons below the display (the menu and back button) and the power button after that . yes i tried reinserting the battery .
edit 3 : I'm not sure if this'll help but my phone is recognized as SEMC flash device (i checked on device manager) and theres a green colour non flashing light when i plug my phone into the pc .

OMG
Thanks
Sorry for not searching , I tried looking for Xperia arc won't load up / start up but it didn't give me this thread .
Thanks again
edit : i thanked you too
same problem!!!
Guys, I was trying to modify my phone so that applications would be saved in memory card instead of internal storage, so I rooted it and stuff.. Now it won't turn on!!! When I switch it on, it shows the SE logo and does nothing else.. I tried to enter the safemode menu (holding left and right keys when switching on, or volume down key and home key when turning on) but nothing works!!! I'm like desperate now so any help would be really appreciated!

Try to flash a new(er) kernel with recovery and install a new rom (your phone is ota-bricked, so if that doesn't work, search on XDA)

Sorry for posting but I'm a total newbie and need help.
I tried to update my A100 to ICS using the directions in other threads.
When I reset I see the android gear animation...then it stops dead for a few minutes. After that the tablet reboots but stays on the "android" screen indefinitely.
I'm afraid that I've bricked the thing. Can someone help with a recovery file (either ICS or HC) and instructions on how I might be able to save this thing?
Again, sorry for the thread but I don't know what else to do.
Thanks!
Sounds like you'll have to do a factory resest if you can't even bootup. This is the easiest solution.
-Turn your tablet off by holding the power button if it isn't already.
-You have to use the power and volume down button in combination. You have to press the volume down button first, then the power button until it vibrates.
-Let go of the power button only and flip the rotation lock switch back and fourth
If done right, it will do a factory resest. This should bring your tablet back to life with stock HC
heres a youtube link on howto:
watch?v=QwyGSwmzVtM <--add the rest. i can't post urls yet!
( w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m / ) <-- without the spaces
Good luck!
And if you install the ICS a100 version again just copy the update.zip file to both, the sdcard and the external sd card if your unsure!

Thanks very much - that did the trick - the tablet is functional again
I am a newbie in this forum and would need some help to unbrick my tablet.
I have been using leaked ICS in the past 2 weeks or so. This morning when I started using the tablet, it was running VERY slowly. I rebooted it but it was stuck at Android screen for more than 30 mins. Running out of patient, I restarted it 1 more time and it can now only get to the Acer screen no matter how long i waited.
Tried a few things already with no success:
1. Hard reset using the pin hole bottom left - nothing changes
2. Go to recovery mode trying to use the HC rom (rename to update.zip) using volume up button. Once the green droid shows up for a few seconds, it turns into a droid lying down with a red exclamation mark. It will then restart itself after 30 seconds or so.
What's going on with my tablet? Any help would be appreciated.
Any help??
Cant use HC ROM...
As long as you are not BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED you can use a regular UPDATE.ZIP for your device... You cannot "DOWNGRADE" that is, you cannot go from ICS to HC again without some form of "hack" or "workaround"
See if your tablet allows you to re-flash the ICS build you were able to update to and post back... It may just be it corrupted some files...
Let us know... jejeje
UPDATE 1: And... Dont use VOL+, its supposed to be VOL-.

lol...vol+ if your like me and boot to recovery in portrait
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I tried the vol - button (the one farther away from the orientation lock button), it seems like the tablet was not doing anything different at all. It will eventually get stuck at the Acer screen.
If i use the vol + button (the one closer to orientation lock button), it shows the text "Booting recovery kernel menu" in Acer splash screen. It will then go to green Droid screen with a spinning sphere. In less than 5 seconds, it seems to fail to boot into recovery menu with a 'dead' droid with a big red exclamation mark.
These are the update.zip file I found in the forum. They all gave me the same error:
Acer_AV041_A100_1.012.00_WW_GEN1.zip
Acer_AV041_A100_1.014.00_WW_GEN1.zip
Acer_A100_1.014.08_COM_GEN1.zip
Any more help? I can get upload a video to Youtube if it helps.
HOME Button?? Maybe??
When you get to the GREEN ANDROID... click on your HOME button and see if you get a bootloader/recovery type menu at the top left... If you dont get it from the GREEN ANDROID, try thesame (HOME button) while the RED DEAD ANDROID is showing...
When mine did that for a bit, I found there was a "hidden" recovery built in... Again, try to go to recovery and press the HOME button... You may have to press it for a few seconds...
Thanks for the pointer! It now shows a lot more information (while the sad Android with red exclamation mark is in the background)
I can scroll down/up using volume button for these options:
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
At the bottom of the screen, it is showing a whole bunch of yellow text:
E:Can't open /dev/block/mmcblk0p5
(No such file or directory)
E:failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
(repeat the above message for /cache/recovery/log, /cache/recovery/last_log, /cache/recovery/last_install
How can i select an option from this menu, btw?
I also tried to use the vol - button. I found that if i keep flipping orientation lock back and forth, it will show 2 messages at the top left corner showing "Erasing Userdata...Erasing cache..." in the Acer splash screen. Then it will freeze again....
PWR button to select
Make selection with Vol+/- and press PWR button to select... See if you can do a factory reset...
"
Or put the UPDATE.ZIP into your microSD and see if it lets you select the "Update from ZIP" message
Pressing the power button doesn't do anything. If i press it long enough, it just shuts down the tablet.
I dont know man... I cant get mine to there because I have the unlocked bootloader now... Have you tried either of the volume buttons... maybe the HOME KEY? that may be it...
I tried every single buttons on the device w/ no success. The home button only hide/unhide all the text. Vol +/- can scroll up/down in the menu. Pressing the power button doesn't work at all.
In the system recovery screen, it has the yellow text complaining about /dev/block/mmcblk0p5. Is there anything i can do with this?
It looks like I am running out of ideas to revive my lovely tablet. Is it time to throw it to a trash can?
Some people are trying to do it through APX mode but it can be difficult if you don't have certain info specific 2 your tablet...

Do you have pointer on what i can try? Since it's already bricked, there is nothing to lose to try it out.

same problem!
my A100 does not work and face the same problem now...
I could not select the item to even recovery or anything.....
Any one can help?
I called acer. We went through the hard reset thing. When he found out that it didnt work he told me to send it to them. So im packing it up tomorrow. Not sure if they are gonna try and fix it or just send me another one. We will see. Will keep u posted
I have been having the same problem. I can get into the system recovery menu from the dead android, but I don't know how to select menu items.
I've tried all the buttons on the device, but none work.
EXACTLY the same symptoms and exactly the same issue with not being able to select anything off the recovery menu.
Ugh.
Unfortunately mine is rooted so I assume if I send it in to Acer I will have to pay for the repair myself.
I had the same problem on my son's pad, tried every type of reset w/o any luck I finally got tired and called Best Buy they told me to bring it in and they tried the same resets before giving up and shipping it to Acer for repair. I just told them the screen froze after ICS update and 4 days later my son has his pad back in working order.
