My Note 2 is great.. I installed Nova and everything was great until I tried to pull up the recent apps via the home button long press and the list never came up.. I delt with it for a day and now I cant figure out have to make it work again.. I deleted Nova, reset all application defaults, and I can not seem to make the recent Apps pop up anymore..
What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: After rebooting and un installing everything, I started to get my recent apps again. It's weird that if you have a phone on for days in a row without turning it off, things start to act funny.

it happens to my friends and my phone as well, and we didn't install any other launcher. please help
Happens to mine too. A reboot usually fix it, but it always seem to come back from time to time.
Wish I could find a way to get it working without having to reboot my phone each time.
Related
This is the third time I have had this problem. Randomly my phone slows down to a halt, the data connection does not work, most setting icons take 10 minutes to load if they do at all yet my texts still work.
There are NO apps running in the task manager.
I have removed most of my programs.
My mods are just removing the TF3D crap, nothing serious.
My stock task manager icon is missing from the top right.
and when I rebooted the phone I would get two errors, one with opera and the other with ~pcom-something.exe"
The other times I reset to unit to "factory out of the box" but I am sick of resetting up the phone with my apps, mods and such.
Has anyone seen this before?
What rom do you have on your phone ? What do you mean by removing all the tf3d crap? And have you flashed different roms without using task29 in between? It sounds like its time to task29 and reflash.
Sorry, I removed the TF3D stuff with mostly registry edits. I am still on a stock 6.1 rom.
Well, it could be pretty work-intensive to try and track down exactly whats causing your slowdowns and freezes, and since you have had to keep on hard resetting it, I would think that you dont really have much to lose by flashing a new rom. If you like the stock 6.1, you could just download it from the Windows Mobile Rom Developement subforum. Alls you would have to do is hard spl your phone and then flash it, it should take less than an hour start to finish, including downloading the rom.
Also:
My stock task manager icon is also missing from the top right.
and when I rebooted the phone I would get two errors, one with opera and the other with ~pcom-something.exe"
I can set this back to a stock ROM with the phone itself and I have all my apps on my card. Doing all the registry things is a pain only because I did not memorize them... YET, haha.
Is there a better task manager to see whats eating up resources?
If you're running the ROM that actually came stock on the Tilt II, then the hot fixes for the issues you are describing can be found here on HTC's website.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/tilt-2-att/downloads/
I'm on verizon, will it matter?
Mother F-er.
Just rebooted to try and get the errors again and instead got this:
"The device is unable to boot because either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tired to install an application from untrusted source.
Press Volume Up to reset your device or press any other button to cancel.
The operation will delete all of your personal data and restore the device to it's factory default settings."
I guess my decision is made, but wow I am not happy. This phone may go into a lake.
... edit:
Volume up does not do anything. AWEsome.
Yeah it matters, here are some Hot fixes for you're touch pro II. Don't know if they will help ya though: http://www.htc.com/www/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=250&act=sd&cat=all
I took the battery out again and put it back in. Same message and the volume up did not work again.
So I pressed volume up about 100 times then held down the power button. Nothing changed.
Then.... I slide open the keyboard and closed it. Put the unit down and about 45 seconds later I heard all 100 volume up presses in a row. The stock WM volume menu was over the windows boot screen, and then the task bar showed up. Then the unit shut off and rebooted but took forever. It looked normal , but SLOW.
Now:
"A problem has occurred with Opera9.exe"
then:
"A problem has occurred with cprog.exe"
WTF is going on. I have not installed/uninstalled ANYthing for weeks.
set the phone to factory defaults last night and changed everything back. Meh.
Thanks for the ideas guys and I will be doing those "hotfixes" very soon!
Cheers,
Dan
Well, this phone is doing it yet again.
It barely works.
everytime I press something it takes between 5 seconds and 1 minute to do it.
i have no signal
most programs do not even try to start
resets change nothing (done this about 100 times today)
What the hell is going on with this phone? This was just as random. Was working as normal until around noon and then it just slowed way down and I could not make calls or answer them.
Grr.
so:
when I reboot the phone, I have the green start up screen for ~5 minutes.
the phone does not work after it fully starts up.
I can not open "remove programs"
I do not have the task manager in the top task bar, but when I go into settings and open task manager, there is nothing running.
I run "cleanRAM" on level 3 and there is no change.
It is still very slow I have not installed anything new at all, so this sudden change reasoning is unknown. This may be my last windows phone as I am growing tired of these random major failures.
Well verizon sent me a new phone.
*PHUCK*, its WM6.5 and I hate it.
I put this same problem under another thread I believe it was touch pro 2 cdma
I am on my 4th tp2 the 3rd oneI gave back to sprint cause it kept rebooting periodically and also when the phone would go into sleep mode it wouldn't wake up when you press the power button it didnt act this way until I started with the app thing (downloading).I had cookies home tab,cht editor, google maps, skyfire, talkonaut voip, ignigma barcode scanner, and a few other apps from windows .So I got a new phone a few weeks ago and it was fine until I installed the same apps the it all started again does any one have any clue as to whats going onThe crazy thing about it all is I did a hard reset twice have put any apps back in and my phonehas rebooted twice already and gone into a adeep sleep the only way to wake it is by calling the phone

do a hard reset, then install your apps one at a time, and use it for a day or two, this should be allow you to figure out which app is causing the problem
EDIT: i use cookies tab, cht editor and google maps, and never had a problem with rebooting or SOD (using energy rom 6.5/2.5)
Thanks,I'm using wm 6.5 with sense 2.5? I did two hard resets already cause my phone started with that sod and rebooting I havent put any of my apps in and the phone still managed to reboot afterwards with no modifications to it .When I got the phone from sprint I waited a week before installing apps to see if this would happen it didnt so I installed maybe two days later the first reboot came along
today i started experiencing the inability to turn off the screen by pressing the power button.
when i 'short press' the power button nothing happens.
when i 'long press' the power button i get the expected menu.
after the screen turns off (by itself)..the pwr button does turn the screen on. (as expected)
i would like to be able to 'short press' to turn off the screen. no idea what i did. my nandroid is almost as new as i'd like it be, i'm more curious how i did it.
the only new apps were:
SwitchPro Widget
autostarts (has been removed0
antennas (has been removed)
Sensorly Map Viewer (has been removed)
i have rebooted numerous times
i have gone thru all settings i can think of
screen is set to auto-off after 30sec
it's like something has simply turned off that function.
any ideas?
try rebooting?
Is it only with that ROM you're experiencing this with?

If you actually read his post he said he has already reboot many times. Anyway op, did this happen right after you flashed the Rom? Or did it happen after sometime?
i think it was an app that caused it. it was not timed near a fresh ROM install. i've been on fresh 1.0.1 for several days. i finally reverted back to my nandroid from last week and its ok again.
at first i thought it was screebl but pretty sure its not that. it was odd because i uninstalled the apps that i had installed after the nandroid and that did not 'undo the change'. if i figure out which app caused it i'll update this thread...i still suspect the apps listed in first thread.
When I plugged out the charger this morning and turned off the wifi my phone suddenly crashed and started to reboot. I put the phone in my pocket and didn't think much about it seeing as this is a very common problem for a lot of people and it usually happens to me once or twice a week.
One hour or so later I pick up the phone to check something on the web and then press the home button to get me back to the home screen. Nothing happens. I press it again. Nothing happens. I have to then press the back button a bunch of times in order to get back to the homescreen...
After testing this a bit more I realize that this behavior doesn't go away, it's permanent, the button just doesn't work any more, which in itself is odd for a software button... Not only that but my lockscreen is gone as well even though it's set to "drag" in the settings and the "minimalistic text" widget on my homescreen sometimes have trouble loading up...
Rebooting the phone does not help.
Does anyone know how to fix this or even know why this has happened?
(ps. the phone is a swedish yakjuxw)

Nope, the device is stock.
I saw a dutch user on a dutch forum with the same issue. a Factory reset solved this for him... Not sure what caused it and it's a bummer if it happens to you but at least it worked for him.
Try using an app that puts your device in landscape mode and see if it works then ans when you switch back to portrait.

Thanks for the replies, but I did a factory reset and it solved the problem.
Had a similar issue when i just got the phone, systemui kept crashing and when i'd reboot none of the soft keys worked - had to wipe and factory reset as well!
Damn. This happened to me too, just spent forever getting stuff on my phone.
Well it looks like I'll be factory resetting...
Hey guys! I recently updated my phone to 4.1.2 and noticed almost every time I go to use my phone and hit either the power button or the home button the recent app screen pops up instantly as if you were to hold the home button down. So far I tried a soft reset a factory reset with no luck. The phone worked perfectly before the update so I know it isn't either of the buttons sticking. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate your help, I'm at the point where I'm pulling my hair out haha
Thanks!!
Did you do the OTA (over the air) update Sprint pushed out, are you on a custom rom, or are you using a non stock launcher? Give us some details and someone, if not me, will help you out.
Also try rebooting. Some users in the past have reported that trying to activate recent apps properly (by holding the home) stopped working and a simply powering the device off then turning it back on fixed the issue. This may solve your issue too.
I see this is your first post, are you familiar with rooting and custom roms? Just curious so we know how to get you through this.
Thanks for helping. I did the ota update that sprint pushed out. The phone is completely stock nothing on it is modified at all. I already tried rebooting multiple times and tried a battery pull also. I am new to rooting and custom roms. Everything else on the phone is working fine but the recent app screen will come up as soon as I turn the screen on. It wont come up if I turn the screen on hit home to go to home screen turn screen off using power button and turn the screen back on quickly, it has to sit for 30sec to 1min for it to start doing it again.
Thanks!!

Anybody got any ideas?
Sorry for the late reply, I work a night shift.
Are you waking the screen up with the home button or the power button. The reason I am asking is because the only way I can make this same situation occur is with no lock screen set, I wake up the phone with the home screen button.
Try setting up a lock screen and see if it fixes the problem.
If it does not fix the problem then I recomend taking the phone back to Sprint to see if they will swap the device since you are not rooted.
If you have a custom recovery installed try rebooting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache then go to advanced and fix permissions, if you only have stock recovery try wiping cache from it. To boot to recovery, power off phone, hold volume up and home then power, let go of the 3 keys when the note 2 splash screen pops up. If that doesn't alleviate the issue it may be a setting with the home key presses, for instance you can change what it does with longpress and double tap, may have gotten the svoice and recent apps mixed up. Try double tapping home and see if svoice comes up or recent apps, also longpress to see which comes up.
I like to break stuff!

This is deff recent update caused i believe. I also have a non rooted sprint device that I just updated, and its doing the exact same thing. Annoying as hell. My device is less then a month old. To explain more on what happens, I have my screen timeout set for 2 mins, lock at 5 mins. Use phone, put it down, wait for screen to time out, pick it up and hit him key once and it brings up the task manager. Not a long press, just a fast press.
I tried to clear the cache with no luck..
I guess that makes two of us for this problem.
I have noticed sometimes when I go to use the phone there will be a blue box around one of the apps. Not sure if its the last app I used but it has been doing this since before the update.
I cant replicate the issue to save my life. When you guys updated something must have gotten confused in the process. May need to download a stock restore of ma7 and start fresh. That would be what I would do if nothing else fixes it. It will erase all you apps and settings and internal storage so back em up. Back up internal to PC
I like to break stuff!
Ok ill be more than happy to try that.. what exactly is ma7 and where can I dl it. Is there anything special I need to know or do to complete the process? I already cleared my my contacts.. google said they were uploaded but apparently not.
Thanks again for the help!!

MA7 is the latest OTA 4.1.2 which would be the update you took prior to this recent apps incident. Look in development for a thread by garwynn it'll have the links to the Odin one-click packages and since you already took OTA you won't need the modem. Just follow the directions in his thread. Before doing it if you have anything stored to your internal storage you want to save back it up to your PC via USB. You'll want to grab the full restore one click so it wipes everything and starts fresh.

Same issue, called Sprint
I spoke with sprint about this today, very frustrating. I learned:
Not all note users are having this problem
they did a reactivation, prl update, firmware check, profile (?) update.
That didn't do anything, so the recommended a hard reset, that's when I flipped out.
They said I may be able to sent me a new phone if the hard reset doesn't help, but would need to pay a $49 exchange fee... then i flipped out more.
possible reasons: I really don't know, here is what i have:
Go Launcher
SD card, inserted a couple weeks after activation
I use Home2 to modify my home button double tap action
Not rooted or anything.

I'm still having the same issue with recent apps popping up upon awake, non rooted sprint, happened after recent OTA update, and have no apps in common with above poster. I have not done a reset yet as it hasn't bothered to that extent yet, and once I get ready to root and really tear into things, ill work it out then I suppose.
I'm having the same issue after updating to MA7. Im rooted, cleared both caches and still going on. When I wake the phone with the home button it wakes up and shows the recent apps, when I close that it take me to my lock screen (wigetlocker)
Edit: Fixing permissions just fixed it for me and also clearing the caches again.
Double Edit: Started doing it again. -___-

I have the Note 2 on Sprint. The update that I got a couple days ago has solved this problem.
